Hey there. Been a while.
Thought I'd stop by and see what the old gang thinks of this development, and give my thoughts, of course.

I've been taking a break from Star Trek in general ever since I released TCMP back in May (hence my complete and utter absence. I know you've been longing for my return. Admit it. ADMIT IT!). Now that I've stepped away from it, I feel I can see with a little more clarity.
The introduction sequence gave me pretty much what I expected: Crap. Kirk as a kid being chased by cops who look like they came out of the Terminator movies, and giving the cliche 'F the police' bit? Whoopie. This going to be almost as fun as going down a slide after a 70-year old with explosive diarrhea.
As expected, they remade the ship (d*mnit. I loved the original design. Why can't they leave a good thing alone?! It was a beauty!). The new one's got a nice side profile, but looking at it from the front, the angle of the nacelle pylons is terrible.
I must say, I do like the revamped uniforms. They maintain the look of the original series, while giving a subtle grittiness that grounds it in reality. Unfortunately, that seems to be the only thing that's subtle OR grounded in reality. The bridge has already been called out for the seizure-inducing white mess that it is, the shuttles look like square pop cans that have been kicked around for a while and had nacelles plastered on the side, and this 'Nero' character looks like the bastard child of Mad Max and Shinzon from "Star Trek" X (yes, that does belong in quotes. If you don't know why, don't ask, you n00b.

).
The overall feel of the trailer is another run-of-the-mill, forgotten-in-a-year action/adventure movie. Nothing special, and certainly nothing like the 'Star Trek' series we've all come to know and love (and later pity).
Hey, J.J. Abrams? F*ck you.To summarize, I haven't been expecting much, and this looks like it's going to deliver about what I expected.
Mods, if this post is too raw for you, I apologize. Please edit as needed, though I ask that you do so sparingly. Thanks.
