offtopic cleared...

guys - please try and stay ontopic...

also, just because someone is expressing their disappointment does NOT mean they are arguing; with anyone or with anything!
i do not wish to see any more accusations as such from anyone regarding this to anyone else, please...

also ANYONE is permitted to express their feelings and opinions WITHOUT taking any backlash for it!  this cannot be stressed enough - so if anyone has any negative feelings to anyone else because they may not like this concept for the movie, then please do not post it...  just keep it to yourself and please dont post at all...
i will not make this request again, next time will result in much more stern measures...  guys, please dont take it there and please keep things civil and respectful to each other even if you disagree with someone else...

thx

Worse, J.J. Abrams has ignored Roddenberry's original backstory for Kirk. At the Academy, he was "absolutely grim" ... an over-achiever. Always serious. Followed the rules. Constantly taunted by upperclassmen. His best friend almost suckered him into getting married. Evidently, nothing like the young Kirk in this movie. Thanks to Abrams, Ellison must be grinning the proverbial Cheshire grin.

As for Matt Jefferies' original designs ... well, I have a replica of each. You've gotta be quick to pick one up 'cause they sell fast. Fortunately, if you miss out, you can always pick up a replica of any of the objects from other Trek series ... most of them are still on the shelf. I have a sneaky suspicion that the J.J. Abrams version of NCC 1701 won't sell much better.

Two comments to make on this.  Where is this backstory for Kirk?  One episode?  If that's it, then likely it isn't his true backstory.  There's no way that Kirk could be that straight-laced and all "Yes sir!" and then become one of the biggest rulebreakers in Starfleet.  Besides which, risk-taking, such as driving a classic 'vette over a cliff or even riding a motorcycle from Iowa to the San Francisco fleet yards(since there are no deserts in Iowa, but plenty in California), is part of Kirk and has been since day one.  Now, I could imagine Kirk finally buckling down in the academy, over-acheives, then hits the Kobayashi Maru scenario, gets ticked off at how badly he gets whooped and then cheats.

As for Matt Jefferies...I truly think he would love this redesigned Enterprise.  It actually has surface details that were sorely lacking on the original Enterprise.  He wanted a highly detailed ship, and Roddenberry said no.  Of course, in retrospect that's probably a good thing since TV at the time wouldn't have done a ship that looks like JJ's Enterprise justice.

On that note, am I the only one who thinks that the Enterprise's internal designer was a complete perv?  You have female officers walking around in miniskirts...on a reflective floor.  Crew morale must be really high, despite all the male officers(and probably some of the female) looking down at the floor all the time.

And on a semi-related note, Travis Willingham was at Izumi-con yesterday(and so was I, GLEE!).  And he mentioned JJ Abrams and sure enough he was asked if he was looking forward to Star Trek, and his words were, "Oh yeah!  That new trailer was AWESOME!"  For those who don't know who Travis Willingham is, he played Colonel Roy Mustang in the anime Fullmetal Alchemist, where he had the awesome line of(when referring to taking over the military), "And on that day, all female officers will be required to wear...TINY MINI-SKIRTS!"  Mustang would reaaaalllly enjoy the Enterprise. ;)

I think that Kirk may have become a very good student during his first year, then laying off during later years in the academy.  that would help explain why upperclassmen said "you either think or sink in Jim Kirk's class" whereas he was also the Kirk who cheated on Kobayashi Maru.  I guess that would qualify as agreement with Shadowknight1, so without further ado:

They've updated the trailer(but not on the official site yet) with 3 seconds at the end with the original Spock.

I must admit, I hadn't realised how old Leonard was. He looks like a ghost!

True but remember he last appeared as Spock nearly 18 years ago!

Too sci-fi for my own taste, but still incontrovertibly awesome.

^Too sci-fi? Wait...what?

If you've ever wanted to see a Star Trek movie on an IMAX screen, you will have your chance come May.

A four part comic series will be released starting in Jan. It basically tells the backstory for Nero and leads up to ST11. The original Spock, Picard and Data/B-4 will also be the other main characters that will be involved.

I wonder if it will also cover the fate of B-4?  and, maybe, his backstory

And now you can see a full 360 view of the Kelvin at the intel/boldlygo site. The bussard is kinda funky but its only a minor thing. It also would seem that it fires its phasers in blue pulses from the turrets aswell as a normal pair of red phasers from the TMP-ish emitters. To make up for lack of torp tubes(don't see any on at any angle)?

It's all interesting. And that 360 degree view of the Kelvin will give some modders some thought...
