Hmm. Maybe the chevrons spin around and the glyphs stay still?

no I don't think that's it...

I think they just didn't put the gate in its proper position yet when they took that second pic...

Looking at the virtual tour the renders posted here are wrong indeed.

...Probably not, but the number I get(379.6m) could be considered ?original intent,? a term that I think I will be using from now on, and ?canon? be damned.

The latest trailer showed the whole gate spinning.

huh you're right... though that might be something special to the ship...

hmm that reminds me... if you look in the virtual tour, on the floor at the base of the gate there is an embedded chevron.

So its the chevrons that turn this time. Most interesting,
"To live on as we have is to leave behind joy, and love, and companionship, because we know it to be transitory, of the moment. We know it will turn to ash. Only those whose lives are brief can imagine that love is eternal. You should embrace that remarkable illusion. It may be the greatest gift your race has ever received."

No it's the whole gate that spins to lock the 9th chevron.... that's what I figure now...

The first 7/8 lock the way the Atlantis and SG1 gates did... then this one spins the gate last to lock the extra one.

here is a pic of that floor chevron...

To quote Ambassador Spock... Fascinating. It's been confirmed that the 2 hour series pilot, will be aired on October 2nd which guest stars among others Michael Shanks and Amanda Tapping. The 3rd part of the "pilot" will air in the regular timeslot a week later.

I'm not sure... The first time the chevrons are spinning, but the second time looks like all the Gate is spinning.

Anyway, as long as there's some spinning involved, I'll be happy

Hmm if the whole gate has to sping won't that make if difficult to activate the gate manually? Because that was the basis of a lot of episodes right there, especially if it is laying on its side.

Oh well instead of judging this as a new SG show, I'm thinking I'm going to forget everything I know about SG and go into this show fresh, I'm worried they have ruined the franchise by pushing to much of a good thing

you give the same reason for the Atlantis gate, how the heck do you Manually dial that?

The answer is: You don't.

I'm assuming that NONE of these gates ever were "welded" into the floors, and are able to be moved and relocated as needed.

Yeah, more likely it's just a hatch covering the underside.

Thats what I never got: When the Stargate "puddle" forms, anything that gets in the way gets cut off. For example the top of Kawalski's head in series 1. Yet in Atlantis, it never cuts out a hole in the bottom of the floor.

Neither do any of the gates partially sunk into the dirt on planets when people enter or leave them. :P
