wow DJ, your statement for the release shows how much time you invest to make it perfect, both thumbs up!
I didn't want to start all the rage just because of the galaxy x, just thought it was part of ST.
It destroys the beauty of the Galaxy, no doubt, but it was a simple question which led to an overheated discussion.

So.. what to say more?
nothing I think...
GREAT

FTech?!?

Wouldn't MVAM 2.0 be better suited for ship seperation?

Loving the work that has been put into this.

Even though my card is high end, this ship is sure to give it a heart attack. It will be worth it.  :D
Can't wait for 2014 to start.

ehm, DJ's aim was set very low, I think it was lower than the enterprise f, correct me if I'm wrong.
And when your card is high end, this beauty wont give your card a hart attack

Sounds top-notch. Cool to know that your following cannon specifications with such intricate detail. I look forward to the pics you plan to post. In the mean time, keep up the excellent work.

-Aeries.

EDIT:

3rd keep up the great work, if people like you did not keep raising the bar the rest of us would have nothing to aspire to be.

great work !!!  :)

Ah, now that you point that out, I'd like to say, then...
It was, indeed, Dj's excellent Century and Vivance that inspired me to actually delve into creating content for this game, and actually join the community. Hence, my very first attempt at 3d modeling (The Mithra), started at the beginning of this month. So, certainly, two thumbs up for DJ. ^_^

As promised, here are the pix of the ship as it stands...

Aeries-->Nice to know my work is driving new talent.

About Separation--> My bad, I thought that FTech was capable of doing saucer separations, I guess it's only for moving parts?  What ever I need to use I will.

Also, as far as the ship goes performance wise, it's only about 12K with 2048 textures.  As with Enterprise F, it will come with lower res textures as well.

Can someone also please remind me later on to make sure I release this ship with blank textures.

btw, don't mind the faint line down the center of the ship, that's just because the two halves aren't welded together.

Hey DJ, release this with blank textures. :P

Edit: Simply beautiful... only 12k? Darn... I ought to really start working on reducing the Mithra's poly count somehow... Great work for such low poly count!

My complements on a beautiful ship DJ. The deflector textures look a lot better now too, I can't wait to see this baby in-game. :)

Work of the highest calibre, this is already my tip for mod of the year 2008!!

Will this (these) model(s) be seamless, unlike the CE Galaxy? I must admit that while I didn't always notice it... that little line along the aft edge of the cobra head really drove me nuts when I DID notice it. (Not meaning to bash the CE Galaxy, as I did like it a fair bit. :) )

 that is just so perfect.

the modelling gone into this is amazing, i cant wait to get my hands on it, i dont even play games, i just want to examine that mesh and learn how you did the neck & saucer rims so well, they flow amazingly, oh and the deflector too.. the galaxy class has to be one of the hardest models to build, a fair few have been done, and most people would be put off doing one, not only because of the difficulty level but also because making one better than what is already out there must be a B@tch :?

Needless to say you are pulling it off nicely, and it looks amazing.. when ur done i'll invite you out for a beer, you bring ur lappy and i'll bring my flash drive.. and u may let me steal the .max file from you  8)

Keep up the great work. and thanks for contributing.

Asylum--> Galaxy is tough to make look right.  no doubt about it.  This is the latest of many incarnations I've made.

Aeries--> Yes, the model is perfectly seamless.  Every vertex lines up, and there are no mesh errors at all.

I've also been looking at screenshots again, and the lifeboats have a very slight yellowish tinge to them, so I've added that.  I've also welded the model from about 50 pieces into 2, the saucer section and the drive section.  So there should be no smoothing errors anymore.  I've corrected all of them I think since last time I posted.
