Hyperdrive Improvement
« on: November 30, 2007, 02:32:30 PM »
Hi all.

Here's a WIP I've been working on and continue to do so.  I've been trying out a way of getting a sense of forward movement without actually moving and here's what I got so far.  :D

Wow, looks awesome!

Just one thing though, I think you should take out the rotation. With the textures moving towards you, it looks kinda wierd rotating as well. Just my opinion!

Oh, and you need more cannon textures :P!

Yippers, it's animated.

And yes, I do need more cannon textures.  I will have to look at pics and try to recreate them.  Trouble is, it's kind of hard to animate them the way I did.

Ya, I can take out the rotation.  I left it in because I was using a different model before and haven't taken off the rotation yet.

I should be able to change it into layers like I did with Slipstream.  And...I plan on using this in Slipstream as well once I get it play around with it some more. :D

It might be just me, but there are too many patterns/repetitions for me.
I still can't read peoples minds, nor can I read peoples computers, even worse, I can't combine the two to read what is going wrong with your BC install...

there's a way in max to set something to be random (particles, materials, objects properties and such) using expressions, but I'm not sure if they will work in BC.
even animated materials do work, but with some limitations.

Wow, 1st the Slipstream improvement, then the hyperdrive one. Cool.
I've found a good reference if you want to make a Star Wars hyperspace tunnel:

Hi all, I've made another update to the Hyperdrive.  I've tried to make it as close as I can to an older pic i found online.
Check it out, let me know that you think. :D

I really like that one.  The only thing that might look better imo is if the black spaces between the waves were only about a quarter what they are now.

Ya, that can be done.  The hyperdrive now has 2 layers so it's an easy adjustment.  Or it may make it look weird, lol.

I just have to look for a newer pic of the hyperdrive used in atlantis and sg-1.  I'm going to try to get the textures close to that one to, if I can.

I figured that I'd add a video, would show it better. :D

Somewhat better quality for a youtube video.  I used that link but it doesn't seem to show that quality here.
