Starship Creator/Dominion Wars model conversion (to BC)
« on: January 12, 2009, 08:41:22 PM »
I was wondering if there's any way to convert the 3D Models that you create in Starship Creator to BC, I know they converted and were useable in Dominion Wars. (I hope this is in the right area :P)

I think that Dominion Wars used the same engine/format as Starship Creator.

You don't happen to know the file extension of such files?
I still can't read peoples minds, nor can I read peoples computers, even worse, I can't combine the two to read what is going wrong with your BC install...

I've been wondering this too, but the 'Type of file' part in properties only reads as 'File'

Which really helps...

What is the extension of it? As in, the group of characters after the last dot?

Odd, it really doesn't have an extension!

I'll move this to BC Modding in the hope someone else knows (more) about Dominion Wars/Starship Creator modding.

It doesn't because I assume those files just hold some text saying "use component this, nacelle that, hull X, deflector that" and so on. Try looking for original components used by the game to combine into ships maybe.

From my little venture into this (ok, googling) it would seem that Dominion Wars doesn't use the same format, so it has a built in tool to "import" designs.

I've looked in the file, it's the usual binary blob thing.
It starts out with a crew description, with stats, and the rest is all binary, no patterns.

Except for this one:
EGSUV\TUMMGDB60 this looks like a resource reference of some sort.

When I said no patterns, I meant no readable patterns, such as the one above.
There are some patterns in the binary data that seem to suggest textures (bitmaps), but not more than that, just suggestions.
