Dammit Jim, I'm bumping this because there's news!!!
Okay, first things first.
http://store.qmxonline.com/Enterprise-Metal-Plated-Phaser-Replica_p_126.html# This baby is a metal plated stunt replica of the phaser used by the Enterprise crew in Star Trek 2009. It has no lights or sounds or even a swiveling nozzle, but it does look a heck of a lot nicer than the Playmates phaser. This phaser is apparently metal plated, so it should be sturdy. And for a prop replica to be $50 is astounding. I plan on ordering one of these this Friday.
Secondly, and slightly related, is the QMx Artisan replica of the Enterprise from TMP, TWOK, and TSFS:
http://store.qmxonline.com/Enterprise-Refit-Artisan-Replica_p_135.html I say slightly related because the fact that this baby is coming out shows that the JJ-Enterprise won't be too far behind. Unfortunately, that goes for the price too. The ship is going to run about $5,000. That's a lot of cash money. The refit Enterprise features the complete aztec detailing, full running lights, blinking formation lights, running impulse engines and warp engine lights, fully lit deflector dish that can change from yellow to blue, mock-firing photon torpedo tubes(flash red), the officer's lounge behind the bridge is detailed and has a small person in it, the botanical garden has little "shrubs" inside as well as a person, and the shuttlebay/cargo area contains shuttles, workbees, and a lit "runway" like in Star Trek V. Basically, all the stuff that a really determined person could do themselves with the right kit, but this is put together for you. Again, I bring this one up because I'm sure that some of the same features will make it onto the ST2009 ship. I'd personally like a set of small-scale ships like the Enterprise and the Kelvin at about the same size as the now defunct Hot Wheels ships, but QMx currently has "no plans" for small scale ships. So everyone who's with me on that, SPAM THEM!!!
Ahem. Now, onto more affordable things. Starting in September, a new IDW Star Trek ONGOING(ie. not a limited mini-series) series will begin based in the new reality created with JJ Abrams' film. This series will have both some new adventures with the Enterprise crew and will re-imagine some classic TOS episodes with the new crew. I like this because that can take some of the pressure off of the films. The first issue will launch in September and will be a new take on the classic episode "Where No Man Has Gone Before..."
