Indeed. Shouldn't there be small additional fins on the underside?

nope the only fins on the mk1 excelsior are there.

The refit has the additional fin on the front along with the bussard collector and also on top of the rear coweling.

Hmm, misleading image then.  Almost looks like there's a slit on the aft.

But I guess not.

Silly me.

Huh.  I always thought that the primary impulse deck was totally rectangular.  Didn't realize that there was an angle to the top of it.

A common misconception.

This is a produced blueprint of the back of the saucer in flat (ortho)
You can note that the Neck is not perpendicular it's angled into the saucer and that the impulse engines have a taper.
I think baz's it a bit too thick but he should stick with the slant rather than the taper.  My analysis shows a straight line slant and not a a rounding as some have suspected but these were the first drawing which suggest that it wasn't merely a flat top to the impulse deck. Following the other images here can lead to a highly faithful reproduction.

I thought that too, so I made the changes accordingly to my version.

Also, the nacelles on Baz's version look a bit squarish when looking at them head on.

Base texture applied to the whole model. I have backed the Aztec off 50% but left the specs as they are.
