Hi there.

I've recently reinstalled BC to do some video capture/gaming for a friends Starfleet chapter. Well, the base install plus 1.1 works fine. No problems there.

I downloaded, installed and added frontier via BCMP, and added the ship files for the JoA after stumbling over what I THINK is the right way.

So, I load and viola... this BSOD takes over the game.

I don't have a mess of mods on this as it's a fresh install, and I've only tried adding one ship. I worked the tutorial on getting a testmode console up and have captured the following.

I really appreciate any help people can provide.

Oh, and I have the latest greatest video card drivers.... system seems sound etc... I've ran though the basics before I sat to write this.

:)

mucho thanks

Ken

ok, undo whatever you changed to add this ship, it sounds like you installed it wrong, Download and install the Bridge Commander Universal Tool, and follow the included tutorial to install the ship using that instead.  It's very easy to make a mistake trying to install with BCMP for the first time.

I ran BCMP, went to packager > Game tools > Ship Plugin, found the ship stuff, and added it from there.

I got a dialogue box that said the ship has been added to the game.

Try installing it with BCUT, instead, that works for any mod that requres BCMP or BCMI, BCMP doesn't like custom races, but you should be able to do that just fine in BCUT, or you can install it with R3 as a submenu to Federation Ships.

then shouldn't this line in the custom ship file...

foundation.shipdef.joa = foundation.R3shipdef

be

foundation.shipdef.joa = foundation.shipdef

showed up in your error report.

Ok, thanks for all the help so far...

I do like to try and solve my own problems... so here is where I am now..

I've gotten the game to load again.. I just uninstalled everything and started over.

I've repeated the steps I've used with both BCMP and BCUT, and both times it goes through with no errors.

The game still loads, but the new ship does not show up in my QB menu. I've added a menu item and made sure the ship was enabled in BCMP, but no dice.

to the Nebula. What filename is the custom ship file? I did a look, but nothing jumped out at me

when you enable the ship in BCMP and BCUT it creates the custom/ship file under the ship name...

oh when you use BCUT it may save the custom ship file in a folder under BCUT's main folder.

it would then need to be moved to the custom/ships folder in BC.

make sure you delete the matching .pyc files when you remove a ship

under /scripts/ships in my install dir, I have a JofA.py file and under /scripts/Custom/Ships I have a JofA.pyc file

is that what you were talking about?

I removed everything and started from scratch. Made sure all directories were deleted, and even did a reboot afterwards.

I've gotten the game to work, I just can't get the ship to be a playable option yet.

Making progress though!

the ship already comes with a custom ship file you do not need to use BCMP or BCUT on it...

see if it works if you just copy and paste the ship into your BC install and nothing else with the ship.

did that, no dice.

I know it works, because my buddy has used it.

I did that with the footage he captured.

my goal was to do it in widescreen, better resolution etc...

I'd ask him, but he's not that saavy. I doubt he'd know how he got it to work

1.1 patch
BCMP
BCUT
JoA

that's it. only other thing i've done is given myself widescreen support by tweaking the config file

uh... are you sure that tweaking of the config file isn't what's caused this BSOD??

try this again without that...

fixed the BSOD with a re-install. it works now, I just can't get the JoA to show up in the list of playable ships
