Using assets in a mod
« on: May 26, 2010, 05:35:14 PM »
Hey there, I am working on a mod and there are some assets I would like to use.

http://bridgecommander.filefront.com/file/C2X_Romulan_Warbird;23849 C2X Romulan Warbird
http://bridgecommander.filefront.com/file/Borg_Omega_Cube;52598 Borg Omega Cube
http://bridgecommander.filefront.com/file/Sona_Battleship;8495 Sonal Battleship
http://bridgecommander.filefront.com/file/NeghvarBCDX;10566 Neghvar
http://bridgecommander.filefront.com/file/Reman_Warbird_Scimitar;8880 Scimitar

I am looking to contact the creators of the assets so I may have the written permission to use these assets.

Now, I do not doubt the generosity of the authors in question, but the mod I am working on is not for Bridge Commander, it is for another game (Star War Empire at War)

I do have a .nif importer for Milkshape 3D but I do not want to do anything or finalize anything without getting permission to do so. This will be a public mod so...permission is needed

Essentially, I am asking to be able to use the meshes and textures and covert them so they can be used in my game mod for Empire at war. Of course, I will add the necessary credits in the readme for my mod.

I was told that all the authors of those assets can be found on this forum. So, if anyone knows the authors of those assets, I would appreciate any contact information.

Highly doubtful that you'll get in contact with them. They retired long ago mate.

I don't want to use the assets without permission.

However, the assets would really MAKE my mod.

Hypothetically speaking...if I used the assets and credited the information (assuming I cannot get into contact with the authors) would this be alright? I don't wanna be seen as ripping assets.

The general rule of thumb on this subject that i've seen is that if they havn't contacted you within six months or so you can go right ahead and use what you need and just crediting them is enough.
All hail the messiah!

I think for the Scimitar you have to contact Legacy/LC Amaral and he usually doesn't give permission.

this is true...  and he can be found over at the Excalibur forums...
however, i think in this case he may just be ok with it...  the team that made that was from years and years ago when BC was still new...  while he is stern about his own ships not be re-released, i think in this instance he wouldnt care as much...
