Jericho's Musings
« on: September 15, 2010, 01:04:48 PM »
This is my first WIP though it'll probably be a bit scattered, and help would be appreciated, particularly texturing although any help I shall most likely welcome

An idea, I intend to develop-

Extend that rear section a bit more and open it up a bit.  That should give you a bit more to work with . . .

+Cookie for the new guy! ;)

Well actually, lengthening it took care of the issue which was that the rear end looked a little too bulbous.  Going fine, now!

Very nice start, and I really like the design.  Shows you've put a lot of thought and effort into it.

I've had a crack at the neck, its smoothed but not attached yet, I plan to weld the 2 mesh's together and then smooth the front of the neck to the front of the ridge

Currently the model has 1972 polys

I can't give you an honest critique until I see where you are going with this.

But cool so far. Sort of looks like you are making a new era Constitution-class.

Well, the neck looks skinny, you should widen it at least to the double of it's current width. Also, I'd take the top "shell"s shape on the side ortho around the deflector as the continuation into the necks front , and ad a sort of "spine" extruding from the aft of the neck backwards. Would make stuff a lot more streamlined. Also, I'd add some structure to connect the deflector housing with the inside surface of the top "shell" of the sec hull, like a continuation of the neck that's the with of the current neck, would make it look more sturdy that way.
Easy is the path to wisdom for those not blinded by themselves.

Are you sure ? the neck looks much more stabile than TOS Connie or even refit one, infact it looks much better than both mentioned... tho yeah I agree with adding some stuff near connection with the sec hull ;)

I think the only thing the neck needs is the spine recommendation, running down the neck and down the back of the hull.

I've tried a few things to make the "shell" appear more stable at the neck but it just doesn't look right...I may post pics in a few days at the weekend when i've had time to look at it more, collage is being a pain atm

Ok, I've left this too long, but I suppose my laptop being broken for the last few weeks hasn't helped
Here are some variations of support for the neck and added spines each ship variation will be posted in a different post to avoid confussion

(The last two show the original support and a variation to add interest)
