Looking good phoenix.  Definitely cookie worthy.  You really should take a stab at that other spacedock next.  Think the 2 would complement themselves.

Looks great the only thing i'd say is chamfer the wing edges alittle, they are little jagged compared to the rest of this very smooth mesh

Thanks for the comments guys, the docking area is only a place holder at the moment as the ports are not square there quite ecliptical but im not sure if what im looking at is a bugged picture, so not sure if they are circuler or not - lol but yer will be getting a complete over hawl and then i'll see what my poly count sits at, if i have more to play with i'll add some more detail, like maybe an open cargo bay with some shuttles docked with crates etc??? any ideas feel free to share them

The docking ring extensions are most definitely ovoid in shape.  If you're looking for some good reference material, this thread over at SciFi Meshes has a pretty good set of close-ups of a very similar station.  It's not the exact version of the Vanguard/47, but the docking ring is almost the same.

ok so heres an update for you, after doing some more research into Vanguard Station, i learned that not only could 8 ships dock with it on the outside, it actually was capable of housing 4 constitution class vessels on the inside as well, much like Sol's SB1 but a lot lot lot (carry on for five minuets) smaller, now first here's the picture but after is an question that might make a big difference to this station

Now my questions are

1) would you like it to be MVAM enabled so you could say launch ships, maybe a different one from each docking bay?
2) how do i make the doors to open??
3) is this something people would like to see??
4) lastly who might be able to help me script this into the station?

If I may, I can offer some answers given my recent experience modding a station for BC:
1) I would strongly recommend not using MVAM if you want the station to launch ships. MVAM will mean that the station will need to be 'separated' into several different objects, and well... that's gonna be a lot of hassle. I would suggest thinking about the Shuttle Lauching Framework instead (I've used it for my Spacedock, and it works really well). It's easier to set up than MVAM, it allows you to decide where the ships are launched from, and how many there are; you'll just lose the realism of seeing the ships docked at the station.
2) The doors are definately MVAM material. I havn't had much experience there, but I'm sure someone made (or at least tried to make) a starbase with doors that opened and closed using the MVAM mod. You'll have to ask someone else exactly how to do this.
3) I'd definately like to see it. Your progress is looking great so far, and BC doesn't have many stations (hardly any from TOS-era).

thanks for the comment Unknown, i must admit i was thinking of asking you about it in the first place, I'm having a blast making this starbase and I'm really enjoying it, best of all it's inspired me to make a couple of different ones based LOOSELY off this one, i was thinking that this could be like TOS's Sb1 and then building more around that, i thought a few stations would be interesting for origins :D

I have a few TOS stations laying around waiting to be used... if ya want any I can give em to ya.
Canon is what people argue exists on ships that don't exist.

Guys is there any Modlers out there who can explain how i can make the docking ring better? i mean it needs 12 bays, 6 long 6 short, but the ONLY way i could get it right was to do a square spline and make the polys in the right place then clone it and leave it placed on top of its self, which of course is a BAD BAD BAD way to do it,and to top it off i can't seem to get a decent curviture around them :(  im having so much trouble can anyone shed some light onto how i can achive this please

Ok here goes, *why is it telling me ok is a spelling mistake??*

Docking ring/pylons are the problem, as you can see I have the tubes going where I want and the basic main part of the housing done, I need the bits that curve from the top of each part as your see in the second picture, now to accomplish this I merged 2 squares together to be able to get the areas I need to extrude, once I done this, I used 12 cylinders of 2 different sizes to get the tubes, now below is a picture of what I've managed to get done - I DONT MIND starting the docking ring again, I'm not happy with it, so anything else you guys can suggest PLEASE DO - I want this to be perfect, not half assed. I want this to set my mark in both Legacy and BC as its somthing that not many people have made.

ok Mine

How i want mine to Kinda look

I mean, I can see myself how far off I am, but just getting it to look remotely right has done nothing but be my bugbear for the last 48 hours.

Thanks guys

Ok, as promised.

This would be my method of constructing this shape (its certainly not the only way  ;))

This is the method, its not an exact recreation but if you follow this technique i am sure you will get your desired results.

Step 1: Create a cylinder, once you are happy, make sure you have edge lines as shown.

Step 2: Remove the left and right faces, then cap the resulting holes in your mesh.

Step 3: Duplicate your shape, reduce its size, and then position it at the correct angle you need to make it symmetrical.

Step 4: Once in position you need to attach them, then delete the opposing inside faces.

Step 5: Once the inside faces have been deleted, you can select the opposing "holes" then bridge them, you can add as many segments as you need to make this smooth.

Step 6: You now have a basic symmetrical shape, delete un needed faces, and mirror until its one complete ring.

THIS SHOWS THE METHOD, NOT THE ACTUAL ITEM AND I HOPE IT HELPS.

final mesh is attached.

You can try connect to create the lines or cut them in then delete the unwanted faces.

once you have positioned the two shapes mate at the proper angles, you need to ATTACH them. Once they are attached, you can delete the two inside faces. This will leave you with the two shapes in correct positions and there respective holes. You then select the out edges of the holes on both sides. Once this has been done, use the BRIDGE command to create a connection, within this command it will allow you to choose the amount of segments you require and will distribute the segments evenly at the correct angle. you can then shape this connection as required. once you are happy with this piece, it is a case of duplicating the object and positioning it to how you need, (symmetry etc) ensure there are no opposing faces and connect the whole structure together and weld away.

Ensure when positioning the shapes you use angle snap to get your angles spot on so they do line up as required
