Jedi is easier to play than smuggler as Jedi can actually defend him/herself unlike smuggler who calmly takes the laserblasts into his face..

truth but there is kind of cover system, and while in cover you can fire powered volleys ;)

What really made me angry was that I actually got stuck between a building and cliff wall without being able to move in any direction, reloading the game simply put me in the very same spot :O quuick trvel mode didn't work because I was still in move so I guess that's one of those no-way-out places :P

I wonder what's the monthly fee

Most MMOs have been around the $15-a-month range, though some have deals for lump sums for monthly periods (some do 2, 3 and 6, some do 3, 6 and 12, so on).

Monthly fee is in the FAQ

http://www.swtor.com/info/faq#203369

I'd tell you but the site is down at the moment.

I Played the Beta for 2 weekends, I have to say Smuggler and Sith Warrior were my favourites, I got both to level 16.

Got my Sith Warrior (Juggernaut) upto level 20 during beta weekend. Was extremely fun and enjoyable. Loved every second of dialog in the conversations.

As for monthly cost, without knowing exact prices from Bioware, i'm expecting a monthly fee of largely the same as "industry standard", which is 15$ USD per month.

This game is the new milestone.. Although some WoW-nolifes whine that it's nothing else than WoW clone with star wars slapped on it, I beg to differ. It's WELL DONE clone with KOTOR on it as well as lots of dialog, high quality graphics and lots of references to the later SW universe and other SW games. Both storylines that I tried (Jedi Sentinel and Smuggler Gunslinger) were very immersive, and despite of beta status, I didn't find that many glitches.. In fact, it was the smoothest working Beta ever, despite of large crowds on some instances. I do, however, need another graphics card to run paraller with the current one, as well as more RAM.  :(

I'm with you on that - hell, I need a whole new computer. Mine's an obsolete piece of junk now.

tried those two as well, got a bit lost when playin' smuggler (maybe due to the fact I was drinking some A% and my thinking got impared :P ) then switched to jedi. I think I'm gonna get at least 3 months gameplay for beginnig after 20th december, then I'll have to lose my girl and probably drop from school and work :D

nah seriously, it keeps good old KOTOR climate very well, graphics are awesome, tested it on my goosd old acer 5740, will play it on my desktop for sure, got to admit it worked really smooth after upgrading ati drivers, no crash to desktop, only few detachted polys here and there (most likely due to shaders failure), story wise I'm impressed even tho I got no further than a bite of ord mantell with smuggler and coruscant with jedi, I really enjoyed the game.

so ... if ya lads dunno how to spend 15 $ spend it on TOR ;)

Purchasing the actual game is bit more than 15$ though.. I'm still on the edge whether to preorder or not.

I bought a new computer specifically for this game, so yeah. Two weeks of my life are going to go straight down the drain starting 12/20.

according to one of the devs if you were in last 'weekend' playtest you don't need to uninstall the game for the full release you can just update from the beta when it is time.

To clarify, this is only you are updated to the latest beta build as of the last weekend test they did.

Highly recommended reading (for those interested in playing, and not yet invited to Early Access):
http://www.swtor.com/community/showpost.php?p=66561&postcount=6438

Of particular note is the following;
"We invited more people to play Star Wars: The Old Republic today than many other MMO launches manage in their entire head-start process."

and
"We're actually planning to invite more tomorrow than today, and invite the same number again on Thursday"

i won't be playing it. mainly because of financial issues, but partly because i think, that i'll buy it only to find its some glorified version of WoW

While the basic gameplay mechanics are similar to WoW, I can vouch for that it overall plays completely different. For one thing, the usage of full voice acting, in lieu of "Quest Text" is a HUGE improvement in my book. Other mechanics in the game that sets it apart from WoW, are among others: AoE looting (loot from multiple corpses simultaneously), No level-bands for PVP/Warzones (lowlevel players are 'bolstered' to be close to strength as the highest player in zone), Companions being fully fledged "sidekicks" with their own AI and skillset, their own "opinions" on things, can be romanced (opposite-sex only, same-sex after launch), and in a pinch can assist in a needed role (lack of tank, use tank companion etc).

I will not begrudge anyone for not playing SWTOR, but I highly recommend that people atleast give it a shot at some point. I too heard all the stories of it being a carbon-copy of WoW (in space), and I was totally blown away when I finally got access to playing in the beta (still waiting on my Early Access invitation).
