The artist formerly known as Prime had a ship named Avalon, I think.  Whatever happened to him, anyways?

Also, Bones, how's your discovery of transparent/animated textures and FTech progressing?

Inferno update:

Just need to add torpedo launchers, then it's mapping time.

*whistles* Now that is one sexy lookin ship :D also, dont worry if you cant get the nacell extension thing to work ingame, with the work youve done here itll be just as awsome with or without animations.

why on earth are the nacelles doing that? lol
it just looks funny to me (i mean no offense of course); if anything IMO they would look better folding out like Voyager's or something...

what i imagined is that the back half of the nacells was bigger than the front and that extended backwards before entering warp, but however Farshot wants to play it its his call. hes done a fantastic job so far and i cant wait to see her with some personality to her texture wise.

this render but with textures would be the PERFECT ingame ship selection icon :D

Also i suggest experimenting with the nacell extension thing, see what different modes you can come up with, if i had a side view of a nacell i could attempt to explain what i said earlier in an image if you want.

I'll have to ask Cordanilus about transprents, he seemed to have done it with DJ's Eclipse.

Inferno looks amazingly :) I had a different concept of nacelles but still looks awesome.

I figured that FarShot's sketch from earlier would've worked very well, but that's just me. :idk:

I changed it a bit because of simple physics:  The inner set of coils need to fit within the outer set.  I could try some modifications, but I spent way too much time on these nacelles and I won't change their shape when shut.

Ok so heres my concept on the nacelle extension for the inferno, its not too different from your sketch but it does show hos the ship can achieve this (the straight part connecting the front and end when extended in warp flight mode, is housed behind the bussard collector when the ship is in impulse/combat flight mode)

Here's the problem.  I'm trying to make it work physically as well.  When the nacelle extends, the extension needs to fit within the structure of the rest of the nacelle.  In other words, I need the round peg to fit in the round hole.  Your idea leaves no space for about half the warp coils that need to be there.

well theres this or we just make the nacells longer and forget the whole extending nacells thing, cuz youve got a badass model here already :D

though i am gonna say as this ship is a very late 24th centurary / early 25th century vessel so by then id think that the way warp coils are design has been refined and because the smaller part does indeed fit inside the forward section on the nacell without hitting anything important id think its dooable.

anyways its your call on wether to keep the nacell extension or just extend the nacells in length and leave it at that.

just realised thats the wrong image save i uploaded, heres the correct one....

Honestly...this is me thinking outside the box here...what FarShot has at the top is a good start.  Maybe to make the extension look more interesting,  part of the housing slides back so we can see the warp coils from the dorsal view?

This looks great! I would love for that to work.

Hey Farshot, if possible do you think you could post a size comparrison of the Inferno to a sovereign class? i think itll help put the ship into a little more perspective for the people reading this thread and itll give me an idea of the exact similarities and differences in the design.

thx in advance, and your doing this ship justice :D

I would guess it's about the size of Intrepid class judging by bridge dome and shuttlebay doors ;)
