Well since I installed tons of mods from day one of playing, I augmented my Skyrim to be much better to begin with.  I suppose that stock Skyrim is pretty bland, but I have not played it stock so I wouldn't know.

Regarding the main quest, I only had two problems with it, the fact that the Blades want you to kill Paarthunax and you have to pick a side, and that the battle with Alduin was far too short and simple.  Sovngarde was beautiful, but it lacked content.

Regarding faction quests, I found the Companion quest line to be quiet enjoyable.  It was the first thing I did once getting to Whiterun and at a low level, the reclamation of Wuuthrad and the werewolf thing was very interesting to do.  I sided with the Stormcloaks (haughty high elves piss me off) and due to the civil war mod, the battles were much grander.

As for the combat system, all I see are improvements.  I remember the days of clicking rapidly and hoping that my attacks happened to hit.  I love Skyrim's system so much more.  Sword and shield has never been done better in a game in my opinion.

Regarding "no soul", grab a few Immersion mods.  I removed all quest markers and changed the map around.  Greatly improves immersion.  I once spent at least five hours playing just out west of Whiterun with a bow and iron arrows and hunted the wildlife.  It was pure time wasting and no quests were completed and I didn't make any money, but I was having a blast.

Brilliant. Thank you, FarShot, for restoring my faith in the game. Sounds like I should have modded the nuts off of it from the start  Morrowind is a different game with mods, maybe I'll give it another shot?

when i get a better rig im going to mod the hell out of skyrim.

im still on a laptop and i have to run the game windowed

i have the buster sword mod, and the lover stone mod.
i did download and install a few other ones, but they didnt work :/

ANYWAY.

i would love to just make the models and find someone to finalize it, i dont want to learn another goddamn scripting engine for a different game  :bitch: ... scripting and putting it in game kicks my ass alot, i still have issues getting MPE to work for me (wich is why im kinda stalling on my new connie since the model is done)
I came, i saw, i added a Sig.
Later gents, i have Youtube to take over.

No other mods working?  If you haven't, I suggest the Nexus Mod Manager and BOSS.  NMM lets you download mods and install them with hardly any hassle, and BOSS can auto-sort the plugin load order to minimize hassle.

I can give you a list of all my installed mods if you want.  Might give you an idea of an awesome build.  I'm fairly happy with my Skyrim play.  I only finished the main quest a month ago with my first character, a Nord warrior with an affinity for dragonbone armor and weapons.  The mod content kept me away from Sovngarde for some time.

Also, I recommend staying away from Steam Workshop and the creation kit if you're just installing mods.  Skyrim Nexus has most of the mods anyways, and it's so much easier to tweak mods and customize Skyrim without having to rely on Steam to give you approved content and such.

It is my experience that those who complain that something isn't working are those who don't know how to use it.  I've not a single issue with NMM. ;)

Here is a fairly comprehensive list of the mods I have and their URLs.  Again, it is tailored towards immersion/realism/lore-expanding.  You won't see the Buster Sword in this list.  Hate to bust it to you, but the Buster Sword is lore-busting.  (See what I did there? :P)

NOTE:  Some of these could fit in multiple categories.  For example, "Better Decapitation Gore Texture" could go under "Immersion" because it enhances the realism of the world.

Immersion:
A Quality World Map - With Roads
Babettes Feast - Improved Cooking
Categorized Favorites Menu
Celtic Icons for SkyUI
Cooking Expanded
DYNAVISION - Dynamic Depth of Field
Every city have various guard oufits TS Edition
Frostfall - Hypothermia Camping Survival

Horse Fast Dismount
Immersive HUD - iHUD
Immersive Skyrim Thunder V5
Imps More Complex Needs
Killable Essential Characters
Lost Art of the Blacksmith
Main Font Replacement
No Helmets Required
Private Selective Quivers 2_4
Ranger Ridge
Real Wildlife - Skyrim
Realistic Lighting With Customization
Realistic Wildlife Loot And Recipes
ScenicCarriages
SkyUI
Smithing Perks Overhaul
Smooth blade draw and Sheathe
Sounds of Skyrim - The Dungeons
Sounds of Skyrim - The Wilds
Sovngarde main theme menu music
Subliminal Traps
The REAL Fus Ro Dah -Unrelenting Force Shout from Trailer-
Torch of Everlasting with Dynamic Shadows
UFO - Ultimate Follower Overhaul
Vals Crafting Meltdown Alpha - Melting Smelting and Fletchin

That is...quite the list. Little things like Lush Grass and Immersive Thunder are wowing. Don't know if you mage a lot but the vanilla mag(e?)ing system is crap and wanted to know if you had any experiences with gameplay mods.

Regarding mages, there's this mod that just came out.  I haven't used it but it looks quite impressive.  It allows you to have a magic duel ala Harry Potter, pointing wands at each other as hard as you can. :P
Magic Duel

No problem, Cyanide.

I like UNP better than CBBE.  Seems to represent the beauty of the female form better, rather than just making it about t*ts-and-*ss.  I actually use the bikini model that is in the optional files.  I don't like people running around naked in snow you see.  Somewhat lore-breaking. :P

I've been planning on trying that duel mod. I also use Midas Magic for more spells.

Since we mentioned the subject of making mods, I had a couple of ideas.

1.  Malukah "The Dragonborn Comes" Mod - A while back a girl by the username of Malukah made a cover of the Skyrim theme.  Her angelic voice and wonderful rendition captivated many.  I envisioned one night of a mod that expanded the Bard College to actually allow you to play music by using your keyboard as a piano keyroll, ala Lord of the Rings Online.  Tied into this would be a questline of rehearsing with an ingame Malukah, a Breton bard who introduces the music mechanics to you, with the quest culminating in a public performance of "The Dragonborn Comes", featuring Malukah on lyrics and you as the starring musician.  This would naturally require Malukah to come onboard, professional quality audio equipment, and good coding.  Naturally a big task and I'd have no idea where to start.

2.  Fully Voiced Dovahkiin - This would also require coding and good audio equipment.  Basically, voice every single response the Dragonborn can say.  Bonus points for selectable voice during character creation (suave, noble, roguish, solemn, wise, and male and female versions of each for example.)

ok.. first off.. that song was friggin sweet.. im stuck drooling on the floor.

both of those mod ideas sound sweet, but both would require alot of things i have NO idea how to do.
i did think that the bards quests were.... shallow from what they should have been.

Thanks for the magemods you two, I found these two which fit the bill nicely - Balanced Magic & MagicEvolved.

And this one is just radical.

Also found an essential.
