Title: Starship Simulator: DEMO RELEASED
Post by: Blackrook32 on February 06, 2022, 09:39:16 PM
I'm surprised no one is talking about this!  :s :idk:

If you didn't know, the creators of Stage:9 and Messy Desk have banded together; developing this new game called "Starship Simulator". :dance

The best elements of Bridge Commander and Elite Force combined x10! Including Multiplayer support.

IMHO, I've never seen a simulator this complex, and from what I learned from the Devs, procedural landing on planets is a thing! Also, you have an interactive crew with their duties. The player can act as any crew on the ship.

This space simulator is nearing the end of its development by this summer and will be offered for free on Steam.  :dance

Oooh... Now all we need is Modding Support, and we could finally get a BC remastered for 2022! :P

Good Question! :D

From what I know this test ship shown in the vid, actually was to be a TMP Constitution Class saucer. The Stage:9 devs were working on this right when CBS pulled the rug out from under them.

Looking at the test ship now, it doesn't take much imagination to see the makings of a Miranda Class, lol.

I'm going to post the question about modding though. Just think of the possibilities!

I tried it, just a few seconds. Could not get the ship to get to alpha centauri   :funny

LOL :funny

Well, I haven't had the chance to play it yet. I've chatted with the head Dev. He was planing
for procedural planet landing abilities.

If I can land (or crash) a ship?, On a interactive planet-side or in the ocean?

Just imagine the possibilities! :dance

It is exciting but I imagine a lot of work is still needed. A game without any goals and missions gets bothersome after a while.

I've yet to fully try it myself, might be a while. I'm actually more excited about Terra Invicta.

The devs are a "very" dedicated crew; seeing their works on the Orville experience and Stage:9 projects. If I understood it right, the decisions the player makes will determine the gameplay. A campaign mode maybe a possibility along with multi-player functionality.

Also knowing the guys are hard-core Trekkers; I'm pretty certain the game might be moddable.

They are very much aware of the BC community. :P

Thanks for the heads up. :D

Did not know about this one. I just had a look at the video. Looks like one of those games any player has to take a deep dive into.

This is on my wishlist, and I'd be glad to know if scripting or library extensions or moddability are in their plans.  Loading in tons of ships and sets is clearly a done deal on our end.  I'd be interested in generating interesting scenarios.

Some of the features are reminiscent of Space Engine, which does a remarkable job of procedurally generating scientifically plausible solar systems.

Oh yeah, I've dealt with both Authors . They are All of one Mind. "Make it Bigger, make it Grander!" The people MUST be Captivated! All hard core Trekkers. I wont be satisfied until I can land a Intrepid class on a planet's surface- solid or liquid.  :)

Interesting!  Hadn't heard of this, will add it to the Wishlist. :-)
