Title: My Shapeway Models
Post by: WileyCoyote on February 10, 2013, 07:28:47 PM
Here's a little project I have been working on for the last week-- the USS Argonaut.

http://shpws.me/niGj

I'll be purchasing one in the coming weeks to see how it turns out.

I was able to convert Ricky Wallace's ST 2009 Klingon battlecruiser and make it a small miniature.  Haven't gotten it painted or anything yet, but it turned out pretty well, all things considered.  The only worrisome thing is the neck at the small scale, it's very thin.  Not sure just how fragile it is.

After having to re-upload my model due to brittle areas of the mesh (the pylons were too thin), I got confirmation this morning that the "robots are working their magic" and are making my Argonaut miniature!

if those pylons dont work, you could always try scratch building them with styrene

"I've had a few things printed by Shapeways lately. I'm still "testing" to see which materials work the best. I'm mostly doing props though. But I love their work and how easy and low cost they are.

Maybe add shipping, and you should be around $26.

They are expensive- a few thousand dollars.

ive caught one for a little over 2k.

but it has its limits.

https://store.makerbot.com/replicator2.html

its only a desktop, with SOMEWHAT limited space, and it ONLY prints plastics as far as i can tell.

weve been getting alot of complaints about gemeni not offering 3d letters in the fonts they want  :roll

plus she would be the only local shop in the tampa area that offers the service, nearest other one is a large expensive as hell machining shop

Did you print it in White Strong Flexible or White Strong Flexible/Polished?

The Constitution Luxury Class (designed by my brother) was created with White Strong Flexible, and the Argonaut was created with White Strong Flexible Polished.
