"Star Trek: New Worlds"

http://www.geocities.com/trekwriter31/FanFic.html

If you're a fan fic writer seeking a place to submit your work, look no further. I'm Jason K. Hauck. I go by the nickname "Hellsgate" at TrekBBS, SciFi-Meshes, Bridge Commander Universe & quite a few other forums. I'm looking for budding, novice, unpolished new talents that would love to tell a good story involving the ships they've created. Check out my site & read the incomplete work-in-progress stories I've begun to get an idea of what I'm doing. My email addresses & requirements are both available on-site, if you wish to attach a copy of your work in Microsoft Word or Works & submit it to the website electronically.

I'm still seeking contributing writers, with stories from every era from ENT, To "TNG: All Good Things" & "Voyager: Endgame". If that's you, please don't be shy. If you'd like to write regular "General Human Interest" newsmagazine articles about the new "TOS" era movie or anything else Trek-related, its also quite welcome.

Thank You.

I've just started working on "Star Trek: Mandela" (The Arke Effect) as a follow-up to "Night Terrors", "Cause & Effect", and "Ship Of The Line" featuring Kyle Riker, Dr. Kathrine Pulaski, & Captain Morgan Bateson aboard the Legacy-Class U.S.S. Mandela. See "Fan Trek" at The Omega Sector BBS for a copy of the W.I.P. file.

You may want to change the name, Hellsgate. Pocket Books already realeased a few anthologies of fan fiction under the name "Strange New Worlds". Could land you in hot water with the CBS-Paramount legal department.

http://www.amazon.com/Strange-Worlds-Dean-Wesley-Smith/dp/1416503455/ref=pd_sim_b_1/178-4123426-8446816

Just a heads up!

And with all due respect to Darkthunder, the image on your main page is not his. He pasted heads on MY work (which was frickin' hilarious). I'm not a stickler for getting credit on everything, just a little miffed that my work was just posted a few days ago, and it is already misrepresented.

Besides, that artwork is earmarked for my Fanfic page, which will hopefully be up soon. Perhaps I can send you my fanfics to post instead.

Not to Nitpick but you do know if someone "alters" an image it does not infringe on copyright? It falls under fair use, unless he claims they are "his" anyone can manipulate your pictures it does NOT violate u.s. copyright law as he is not stealing and claiming the work as his own, it actually is not necessary to credit the original artist. As an artist, i understand how you may feel, but when you upload you have to accept that it is fair game.

Hellgate will not get in any hot water, unless his intention was to make money. There have been similar named episodes, videos, fanworks over the years, and unless someone copies both the title and the story close enough to be the same in both areas and claims they afre his, and seeks royalties or monetary compensation, then they will not come after him. If i made a fan film called "star wreck: the wrath of daystar" the makers of star wreck would have no claims to take me to court as i can site "parody" under fair use, and the fact they had no legal claim to anything star trek in the first place to copy off.

In such case "intellectual property" would come into play. it would not go that far, and waste court time and money for all. Ms. Americana, a poser made erotic super heroine series by Mr. x, had a character to close to wonder woman getting jiggy, DC asked him to remove the character nicely, only because "her image in x rated work ggoes against their wishes" DC has no problem with fans making fan comics online or other fiction, but you can't represent the charcters in pornogrophy without them threatening lawsuits.

Now, that being said, if you wanted DT to credit you as the source of the base picture, that would be between you and he to decide, if it were me, i'd credit you if you asked no prob. :) But don't look at it as "misrepresenting" your artwork..take it as a compliment that someone wants to use it at all!

Daystar & Undedavenger:

Thanks, Guys! I'm glad someone likes my site enough to be concerned about Cease/Desist orders, but as far as Paramount-Viacom is concerned, I'm sure their P.R. & Legal departments have weighed their options. Hmmm...do we spend ungodly amounts of money/manpower coming up with ways to MAKE money instead of losing it chasing after people giving us free radio/TV/magazine/internet space, we'd otherwise have to pay-for ourselves?

Why endanger / alienate viewers [ and potential future sources of advertising dollars in Canada/North America[/b] ] (especially in a time when EVERYONE UNDER GOD is downsizing/outsourcing,) chasing lil ol' me.... versus realizing I'm ~*giving them FREE advertising*~[/b] for future releases of "S.T.: Strange New Worlds"[/b].

I'm keeping "Strange New Worlds" visible & enjoyable to new audiences of every age & walk of life throughout the internet in every language, race, creed, colour, gender & sexual orientation. I'm bringing prospective authors and new ideas to animate in CGI or act out in real-life on either the small or large screens & paychecks to future employees of Roddenberry & Barrett's descendants. I'd do this website for them under official permission & license if they'd let me.

DO YOU HEAR ME, PARAMOUNT!? LET ME TURN MY SITE INTO A PAYCHECK! THAT WAY, WE BOTH WIN!

Never underestimate the corporate ability to nitpick, even over the tiniest amounts, Hellsgate. You're probably safe, unless the site becomes a huge repository for thousands of gigs of fan stories. Then, Paramount will probably want a nice "feel-good" check from you, lol.

Daystar, I am not the type to freak out over things like that. I never said anything about copyright infringement. I personally think that is childish and stupid to do for something you created BASED on something someone (Gene Roddenberry) else created. Just reminding Hellsgate. A small cred would be nice, but it's not like I'm gonna come hold his toes in boiling oil over it.

Oh i know Avenger, i was just throwing the whole category into that i actually double checked to be sure i was not talking out of my Arse, the concerns are usually related so i was blanket referencing, no harm.

Undedavenger: I'm hoping it ~DOES~ become a huge multiple-gig sized repository over the next ten years, without the hassle. I have yet to see "Trek Writers' Guild" & TrekBBS develop any significantly worrisome problems, so I'm not going to sweat it.

Daystar: I meant to ask for your own website address (if you've got a "Star Trek: Daystar"[/b] repository of your own.) Recommended sites?

No website (yet) i used to have an awesome domain for comics i made but i just right now use myspace as a gallery repository and youtube account for previews, as work in progress goes. I may make a website within a year, right now i just don't have one because i am to horrid at managing them to bother and there isn't enough i feel yet to warrant filling a website up with whatever to fill and kill time with. If i make a website, i want to have enough material to keep guests checking back not have huge gaps of random nothing.

i have both an original based around trek (with an original trilogy started, a lost 'foundation' trilogy that disappeared somewhere and even the start of a "next G version where they face their own equivalent of the Dominion), plus a couple fanfics of my own on two enterprises.  but I don't believe my work is good enough for that kind of thing.

but I may have a species that would send the entire galaxy into a panic attack. they've evolved SO slowly upon reaching sentience that they're physically incapable of SEEING sentient races.  their vision is so Chrono-shifted they can only see sentients as the animals of the particular species they evolved from, including super-evolved energy being species

Interesting concept. Dr who had a episode of the new series "Blink" about the angel statues in churches and around london being an alien species older than most sentient life, "quantum fixed: "they only exist in this reality as long as you people are not looking at them, then theyre quantum locked. Part of their physiology is they become solid stone when observed but the moment you blink, they move, one of the best and freakiest episodes of sci fi in ages. Trek for all its science fiction background, ironically, has not been the show that has the best memorable alien species in sci fi history, i find that disturbing but truth. When i look back, the best "aliens" were on shows like Dr. who, Farscape, V, X-files. Trek makes ridiculous aliens (like Q) or they make ape intelligent grunting "kill everyone for honor and glory" aliens like the Klingons, even the Dominion was not interesting alien wise the changelings were IMO copies of terminator 2's morphing Cyborg and they just found an excuse to call them an alien race. The Tholians were "true" aliens that were severely underused, I mentioned this in another thread, Voyager had one or two Aliens of worthwhile mention like the dudes who turned out to be dinosours from earth evolved.

The Sheliak in TNG are close, like the Tholians they were a very unusual species we saw very little of that are left mysterious, The Binars in 01010101 or whatever that episode was called were "i nteresting" to a degree...but when i say real aliens i mean the kind that people remember and talk about for a long time, and Dr who's Angels from Blink became internet CRAZE for months after, my daughter and her friends talked about them with chums for a year almost, so that to me says someone made a memorable creature. Only Trekkers talk about Klingons or Borg, they aren't "interesting" outside the scope of star trek, species 8479 have a stupid name, a Borg designation, to identify them the appearance is cool but hell i forgot they even EXISTED until i started to read the STO "path to 2409" threads a few months ago. That says to me, they didn't leave a lasting impression enough to care. The kind of Aliens your talking about are what we need..Babylon 5 had the right idea with "older races, younger races" like the Minbari, Vorlons, Shadows That approach to alien race hierarchy is what i wish Trek had going, one could argue Vulcans are like minbari but really, they aren't because trek did not leave any mystery or make them stay ahead of technology they let humans "catch up" when they joined the federation. The Breen were a refreshing exception when they entered the Dominion war..i recall they were first mentioned to my knowledge by Riker in "generations" when he listed what races had the type of disruptors used on that station they investigagted, then we saw the breen (who look like er..princess leia in her bounty hunter Boussh costume from return of the jedi ) and they had mysterious technology that was all to quickly overcome.

well, a lot of these species introduced in the trek universe were either cannon fodder or throwaways.  it took the various non-cannon novels to put any development out.  after all, I'd bet a lot of writers we're just trying to make a buck.

don't expect character development for a species that isn't the literall focus.  trek focuses on the growth of the HUMAN race away from it's more primitive internal conflict past.  Babylon 5 was basically the dead opposite of the Trek Philosophy, in that humanity got even WORSE in their insularity.  the Minbari made things worse, it was the game that both the Vorlons and Shadows were playing with ALL other species.  it's one of the things that later turned me off of B5 as a series (except for watching the Centauri learn the hard way they can't screw with everything)

my original concept was an escapee branch of the human race who were so conditioned by the culture they came from, and what they were raised with on the starships, that they see no other race but themselves as sentient, and consider all other species as literal animals, and thus, treat them that way (including as FOOD).

K.C.S.: I'd love to have your chrono-shifted species, in addition to your "Foundation" / "Next Gen" fics involved with "New Worlds". Everyone needs a place to start. Please submit your work. Please. Or, if you're comfortable with the idea, may I use your species as part of my TNG (Season 5) "Night Terrors" follow-up as part of a (two-author) collaboration?

Daystar: Please list all your resources/galleries, so I can text-link them to "New Worlds".

sorry, but the original "chronicles" quadrology has maybe a few chapters of each book started.  I wrote them in my twenties trying to get the ideas out of my head before they dissapeared (during college), and I never got back to them. i was VERY proficient in my twenties, even creating World of Darkness fanfics with my own WTA cast at the same time.  and THOSE are more complete, but stuffed into multiple fragile high-school and college notebook pages.

the notebook with the Foundation story (my absolutely BEST piece of writing, as far as I'm concerned) is missing, and assumed destroyed (most likely by my vindictive and slightly greedy ex)

I'd only started the P-Star? 195 primary entry, Something Nigh (which would have been part of another quadrology), and not only is it full of a character type that everybody absolutely loathes, thanks to CSI,  the current captian is in a same sex relationship with his own Exec (whom he is married to), and that, too, is on the Verboten list due to America's Victorian-oriented sensibilities.

basically, it'd all be seen as a giant slash fic and fan wank, the legacy I wanted to leave behind as scifi stories as a nod to the trek universe.   each OS cast member has a walk-on character, and I even gave a nod to Toho and Universal (i did a little "shipping" between future descendants of a couple very famous Macro Monsters).  it's all tainted by people who think everything is a sexual fetish if it's not vanilla sex :P

not only that, i have to type it all in (it's all on paper), and edit he typos, my bad writing (which is SO obvious), AND finish "Chronicles, Tsachea" just to start (it's almost done).  I'd originally intended these to be Novellas, not short stories.

addendum: actually, you guys should be getting credit fom ME.  I never developed the Chronoshifted beyond the basic idea, and you woke my ideas back up!

Ah, Ok. Its just that "Night Terrors" never really developed the alien species causing havoc during the episode. Your chrono-shifted species sounds like something the U.S.S. Titan might've encountered while dealing with The Neyel in the novel, "The Red King" or kept an eye on the U.S.S. Voyager in the Delta Quadrant. So, I'd like to mention your alien race as a relatively-older, non-corporeal race that has finally decided to toss a coin & make up their minds about an official 'First Contact' with the United Federation of Planets/Starfleet. Do you have an official name for this species? I'd love to welcome -ALL- Slash, regardless of others' sensibilities, provided there's appropriate disclaimers at the very beginning of all sites/documents.

I had to read that twice to figure out what you mean, and I'm still a bit confused.  if you mean the P-Star's enemies, they weren't to be introduced for at least two books in the 195 series.  they were a floating idea.  it's just partially solidified, now.

i work by writing as I go, and then editing myself later to clarify my own ideas.

i suggest you actually READ my post over completely or contact me via PM, so we can straighten this mess out.

King Class Scout:
I was responding to your post (below.)

"but I may have a species that would send the entire galaxy into a panic attack. they've evolved SO slowly upon reaching sentience that they're physically incapable of SEEING sentient races.  their vision is so Chrono-shifted they can only see sentients as the animals of the particular species they evolved from, including super-evolved energy being species."

I was hoping to find out more about these beings you've posted about. The ones that only see other species as the animals they evolved from. I was hoping to use them as the next species for Starfleet to have "First Contact" with, in a follow-up 'Sequel' story to TNG's "Night Terrors".

Captain Morgan Bateson & Chief Medical Officer Katherine Pulaski encounter this chrono-shifted species on their next mission aboard a Legacy-Class starship in the late 2370's/early 2380's.

I haven't even gotten an appearance for the ChronoShifted as of yet (they weren't to be introduced until a couple books from my latest...

holy CRAP...i just FOUND them while looking for a phone bill!  i didn't even know I'd started writing down details.

okay...here's what details I have.

Species self name: !Trae (the ! is a vocal click, a-la the Bushmen of South Africa, like N!Xau in "The Gods Must Be Crazy")
details: perpetually in Goggles and Filter Masks (i pictured old fashioned WW1/WW2 gas masks), language sounds like Gobbledygook, cannot physically recognize sentient species, all starships are seen as primitive arcs full of simple animals, which has them perpetually puzzled.

their own design format resembles the current space equipment design, almost borgish, bare metal and white paint.  cubish, hard angles, plain bare metal, crude-ish plates in places.  I haven't decided what, if any "appliance" may be under the masks.  I'll work on some details.

Aces High: No problem. Thank you for your interest in my anthology. I'm just seeing if there's any ~other~ authors, veteran or beginner, out there in the interwebs.

I'm not really hugely interested in collaborative stories, just singular-author works with original characters and an original ship / station / homeworld that hasn't been written about before, extensively or otherwise.

I don't mind a cameo appearance of a canon character (such as Geordi LaForge, Kirk, Bones, et al.) to help the author branch off from a certain specific point in quasi-canon text-based novels and / or graphic novels, canon TV episodes / movies. But, I prefer the already-generously-established canon character(s) please stay within the prologue, first paragraph or first chapter (or two).

I don't mind slash but keep it somewhat sedentary, believable / realistic, (two male or two female and/or transgendered crew-persons are screwing passionately, then cuddling, one gets out of bed, showers, gets dressed, does the domestic/family thing with the dog and kids, and leaves for work.) Begin the adventure in Star Trek at this point and end the adventure in harlequin bodice-ripper style romance/erotica at this point, too.

Know what I mean?

I'd love to write a story or see one one submitted to my site, a sequel to TNG's "CONSPIRACY" episode, in 2377 following the Dominion War. Exploration has resumed, unresolved issues have been selectively re-opened by a relatively small starship + crew that (for whatever reason,) find themselves inextricably, 'personally invested' in finding out where the signal at Starfleet Command was sent a few years earlier.

Aces_High: I'd like to create a list of your ships, (the Beliskner, Lapon, & the Idiot's Delight.)  I need your help with you telling me what class they each are.

sorry, about the late reply, I missed this thread, next time toss me a PM.

to answer your questions, the Lapon is not a Nebula class, it is actually a Thresher-class frigate, kinda a step between the New Orleans and Intrepid class (it's better detailed in my as yet unpublished pilot episode, sry).  Beliskner is a Galaxy class starship modified as a Carrier/Space control ship, of it's own subclass.  the 'Idiot's delight' isn't my ship, it's actually from Star Trek: Special Investigative Division by Travis Anderson, and was only used in the one episode of STNO, so you probably should leave that one off.

oh, BTW, feel free to use any of my artwork and banners from my site on the STNO page, (except the freewebs stuff) I can send you a "Press Kit" if you want, just credit me appropriately.

Aces: I've added a link to your "Star Trek: New Order" expanded wiki page to my site.

I've added a new forum to my site for fan fic, art, and fan production discussions, adult (NC17) and family-friendly as well.

Rebuilding a new "Star Trek: New Worlds" site as my webs.com account has been frozen ~twice~ in the last week. Don't need this B.S. so i'm moving over to my tripod account.

My original site was un-frozen by webs.com admin's, so I took the opportunity to refit the site with some new details. Its own chat room, a new music video and different layout.

We've got new author challenges for April & May 2011.

Just a suggestion, the april challenge is too specific.  A writing challenge theme should be vague enough to allow an author to put some of their own ideas into the story, something like: "Write a story from the Captain's Table" or "Dominion War stories" if you want to be specific, set up a problem for the authors to solve in their own way.

The may challenge is a little too vague though, since all you are establishing is a time period, and a pretty open one at that.

As for myself, while I'd love to try a writing challenge, I have too many projects on my plate right now, and neither of those themes sound that interesting to me.

Okay...fire-away. I'm an open-minded fic-site adminstrator. I'd love to hear about every detail of your suggestions for the June / July 2011 Author Challenges. I'd like to hear from everyone else on this forum about the same issue.

Captain's Table

Dominion War

Romantic/Personal Problem to be solved in the character/author's own way.

Okay. I'll put that into this month's author challenge.
