I drew this up in good ol' Microsoft Paint about 6 or 7 years ago back when I was in high school. I want to tweek it up a bit as now that I look back on it, I think the saucer section is too small for my own comfort, on top of the Secondary hull Impulse engine being I think too close to the battle bridge area (yes another concept I was thinking of druing high school because I always enjoyed the Saucer Seperation of the Galaxy Class...call me obsessed!).
Looking back now I see that I did take on similar designs. For starters, the overal shape of the hull is that of a Sovereign class, save the saucer impulse and secondary hull shuttle bay (Which looks strangely similar to an intrepid class, and IMHO, is too small to fit about 6 shuttles). I took the lower saucer idea from the Intrepid class as well (though I don't have a side view, because I never could get that darned thing proportionate). And made it a bit blockier, with two torpedo tubes on it. *slaps self*
On top of that, I got the idea of the Saucer going into warp from the Prometheus Class, although I put both nacelles on top of the saucer a little too close to the bridge (that's what the two ovals are near there with the blue and the red LOL). The secondary hull where the Deflector is is in the shape of a Nova Class, it forks out and stops right where the bulge is that I took from the Intrepid Class (I neglected earlier to mention, I also made it a bit bulkier). The nacelle pylons look that of a Constitution refit. I originally thought of putting phasers on them, but dropped the idea because I realised that long ways wasn't the best idea....Now that i have seen Nemesis, I want to place them like they were on the Nemesis Sovereign Class.
It's an interesting design. At least IMO
there are 16 phasers on the saucer section alone (8 dorsal, 6 Ventral, and 2 on the front {please don't ask})
as well as 3 torpedo tubes (two fore, and one aft).
The secondary hull has 10 phasers (5 ventral, 4 dorsal)
and 3 torpedo tubes (one fore, two aft)
I designed it well enough that it was maybe a little too heavy on armament (I might drop quite a few phasers), but still looked streamlined (save the lower saucer LOL I'm thinking of changing that). I only have a photo of the top for now, but again I stress I intend to change it! To me it just looks odd right now, and I believe it's due to the fact I think the saucer is much too small for this ship, it needs to be slightly bigger (slightly being an understatement right now but you be the judge LOL). Constructive Criticism is welcome :).
P.S. this is the one I drew with Paint, it is by NO means perfect!
Oh and yeah, I might even make a model of this once I get the grasp of 3d Max
-
...reminds me a little of the aegian class.
I like it :)
-
Agreed with a hint of the Excelsior/Sov class aswell...a good middle range deep space rescue vessel?
-
yeah, either that or a perimeter action vessel of some sorts^^
-
Actually I was thinking more along the lines of combat vessel  She's about the size of the Sovereign class.
-
that vessel looks superior to the aegean (and the variants based off it) aside from the washboard stuff down the back.
-
Sort of like the Defiants starship version? a war ship for the federation something using standard fed tech but instead of aimed for exploration is a more of a warship for defending its borders.
-
that vessel looks superior to the aegean (and the variants based off it) aside from the washboard stuff down the back.
Starforce: Hehe, actually that's shield grid....but I drew it so poorly LOL, darned I wish I could go back in High School LOL, I'm sure once I get some good graph paper, I can sort all that stuff out and actually make her look a bit better than that :)
Andrew_J: Kinda, designed around the time the Defiant was actually....shortly after the Wolf359. This design was kept secret.
Roger
-
reminds me of a Sovereign variant I saw elsewhere,.... I can't remember the web adress.
there were a lot of ships there: carriers, upgrades, transports, cruisers... like what they did with the Connie on the TOS, all ships were similar.
I'll put the link here if I can find it...
-
Looking back on it, I feel it's a mixture of several different classes all fused together LOL. This was created back in 2000 (before i graduated YAY!!!) I'm working on it to make it look a hell of a lot better :) I know this is the class of ship my usernamesake is :D. U.S.S. Eclipse, NCC-74569, then there is the USS Continental NCC-74500 (the shakedown cruise took down close to the initail construction of the USS Intrepid, hince the lower registry number, I am considering changing this) I'm going to need a bit of help with this, as since I've drawn the top view, I can NOT make the side view proportionate to the top view :(.
Roger
-
If I might ask, are the Necelles and their support struts elevated, lowered or kept even with this ship's secondary hull?
-
Elevated.
-
Eclipse - You know...with some adjustments to my Aegean Class, I could easily build your design. It's very interesting. If you could get me a starboard view of it, and a foward view of it, it'll be no problem to build.
-
The armament isn't heavy if they're individually weak.
For example, 6 single shot torp launchers is fewer torps than a Galaxy, Sovereign or Akira. And if the phasers are weak but reload quickly, then it would nice complement a manouvreable ship that can't afford to keep the enemy in one arc for very long. (maybe weak-medium strength shields.)
Remember that in ST longer phaser arrays generally make them more powerful. Thus multiple ones would both recharge faster and be weaker anyway. It'd make a good escort, and would have a pretty defensive armament.

EDIT: Brex, this (http://www.kappafleet.com/images/ContinentalClass.jpg) is a ROUGH and Rough is an UNDERSTATEMENT of the side and fore view of the ship. The nacelle pylon is very similar to the Constitution Class so it's as thin as that! I'll let you have Artistic license of it all :D.
RCgothic: I never thought of it that way...And it's not like the phaser arrays take up most of the hull either! (to me it still looked Starfleet-esk) I'm thinking of putting two of the phaser arrays on the Ventral secondary hull closer to the traditional curve that goes downwards on the sec hull, i originally drew them closer together, but don't think it's wise now, I'll have to draw it up and see where that goes :)
-
bump, I haven't had much time to edit the drawing much. I've been busy at work, HOPEFULLY I can put this on a WIP status...That is once i learn how to Model.
Roger
-
Nuther bump (southern comin out of me :D) No progress. in fact I haven't even had time to do anything BC related other than my work on the Hawkeye Sovereign pack...and that's even progressing slowly! You might ask why? (Of course you won't cuz I'm about to tell ya :P) I'm working on getting a career in music started :) Startin with some christmas music I'm about to put up on MySpace LOL I am such a dooorrrrk!
Well ttygs :D SEEYA!
Roger
-
Well, in a way I don't want to start another topic, but at the same time, this has some relavence.
I reported the Nemesis Sovereign from the Sovereign pack that I have available at BCFiles into .3ds file format using Milkshape and then in saved it Max format using Max3.1, and I'm curious to know how to go about correcting the shading errors from milkshape using Max 3.1 without doubling the file size LOL. I want to know because I want to use this as the basis for my ship as well (i'm going to save a backup file)
If anyone can help me, could they contact me Via PM, or MSN@ eclipsencc74569@hotmail.com?
Thank you!
-
Do you have version 7 of 3DSMax? If you do, I can give you my scene file for the CG Sovereign. I've decked the ship out with lights and supped up the material settings to make it look more realistic. It's using the High-Res textures though, so all you would have to do is point it to the directory with them.
-
Honestly? I have Both the CG SOvereign Max file, AND Max 8, I just don't want to use the CG Sovereign as much as possible...Mainly because of the Saucer Shuttle Bay and how the Hawkeye Sovereign and the CG Sovereign differ. Don't get me wrong CG did a hell of a job with both, but I just like to tinker, and try to get the hang of things! (thank God for backups!)

I have the CG Sovereign cut into over 200 groups in MS3D in order to avoid smoothing errors - it's part of what I had to do in order to fix the sh*tted out Intimidator V1.0. In order to avoid smoothing errors in MS3D, no groups can contain edges that are meant to be sharp - they must all be smooth surfaces cut into separate groups and aligned with each other - a box for example must be cut into 6 groups (one for each side) or 3 groups (each group containing opposiite sides).
I can give you this MS3D if you're interested.

Uhm...no actually, I'm not referring to the CG Sovereign...I'm referring to his original model. The Hawkeye Nemesis Sovereign based on the FC Sov.
-
Well, started on a new retexture of the Hawkeye Sovereign for my upcoming 2.0. I'm kinda using CG's textures cutting and pasting, but plan on tweeking it up a bit to make it look more like an FC Sovereign Class. Now if I can find someone who can IMPORT nif's using max that would be great, as everytime I try it with Milkshape converting it to different files that'll import into max without fudging up the shading, the file size almost doubles when I report it to .nif. If anyone can help me I would most appreciate it :), the only reason I'm asking is because I plan on making an ID map specifically for this ship
Some photos of the upper Saucer so far, now if I can only get those damned impulse engines right...
-
looks ok so far. What are you going to do for its hardpoint?
-
Well, I had P$YCHO do the hardpoint for 1.0, since I'm still in the learning stages (haven't had much time recently however due to work and well getting life straight for me) of Python and MPE all together, so I might allow him to do 2.0's HP as well :) IF he's up for the task :D
-
Now if I can find someone who can IMPORT nif's using max that would be great
Anyone have an NIF importer with Max? *whistles*
Roger
-
I'm pretty sure that there isn't one.
-
talk to the sfc'ers they may be able to import it to something max can use.
-
milkshape has a importer plugin.
-
I know that LC, not tryin to be rude, but I've already stated that when I import it into something that Max uses without losing shading, the file size nearly doubles when I reexport it (the original is only 825kb's I think and when I reexport it's like 2mb's)
-
If you chop up the ship appropriately (probably about 150-250 groups) and then export it, it should be very close to normal size, probably a little smaller, since it will lack bussard animations upon exporting to NIF from MS3D. You'll also need to cut the ship up so that it has little chunks that can be mapped to a single small registry Targa - this is the way that the CG Sovereign, SNS Galaxy, CR Nebula, LC Ambassador, and my new SNS Akira are made in order to minimize the amount of space that registry information occupies. And I honestly don't know why you're going about doing this - the CG Sovereign is superior to the Hawkeye Sovereign in every way, and is ideal for using the Skinning & Damaging Tool - why not try to build something cool from scratch or do a kitbash?
-CR
-
First of all Russell, the idea is to have a FC type sovereign that is suitable for the Skinning and Damaging tool, We have very few of those...whereas the CG Sovereign uses the Nemesis CGI ship as a basis, as a matter of fact I've tweeked the ID map texture a bit on the CG Sovereign specifically for the First Contact/Insurrection Sovereign. Hope that clears things up :), oh, and I don't have enough skills yet to create something from scratch, unless someone has the time to teach me. Once I build up enough skills to build something from scratch, I have the perfect Idea...*points to his little thread about the drawing* :). Forgive me if I come across as rude, but I've had a stressful week at work!
EDIT: I almost forgot, CG's Hawkeye Sovereign has lower poly count than CG's 1.0. Which is another reason I'm using this model :)
Double Edit: DJ Curtis: there is one for Max 5....though from what I understand is unstable, once you import the ship, delete the file then save it into Max file...although I don't have Max 5...*whistles*

-
Eh, Sorry I have no updates right at this moment as I've been sick as a dog with the flu lately. I think for now I'm just going to make this a retexture of the entire ship until I become more experienced in Modeling to mess with ID Maps. And I think I'm going to make this a two ship deal the Enterprise and the Sovereign, as right now I don't really feel like making more registries. That is unless more people want a few more ships (I'm not going to go crazy and overboard with it like 30 ships, to me that's outrageous, no more than 7 ships)
Roger
-
I kinda wanna start to learn how to model. But am a total n00b at it LOL. I'm currently working on the Sci-Fi art tutorial on the Connie, and well, let's just say one area (the bridge) is giving me pains in the arses. If there's anyone who has available time to one teach me how to use 3d MAX and help me learn a little more photoshop than I already know, I'd most appreciate it.
Thank you very much,
Rog W.
-
Bump, as I edited my last post to make more sense :P
-
Ok, this is going to be a learning experience for me....I'm doing this on my own, the only way I can learn right?
The only thing is, I can't seem to make the saucer longer, it's one gigantic circle LOL and I'm wanting it slightly eliptical like the sovereign. I would use stretch, but that wouldn't look right, and I've made the saucer of the Constitution I'm working on eliptical once before and I cannot remember how I did it.
Can someone please help me here? :)
Thank you very much.
Roger
P.S. Photos to come as soon as I get this LOL
-
I use a spline cage for saucers so that I can get the mesh segments an equal distance from each other, even if it's elongated. Only problem with that is that it becomes dramatically more elliptical the closer you get to the center.
-
Ok...I'll have to tinker with it LOL. It's like I said, this is a learning experience for me :). I plan on taking my time on this one so that I can get the hang of things.
BTW: Spline cage...where would I find that on Max 3.1?
Roger
-
It's not really a thing you can find. :D
Basically, spline cage is a method of building a mesh. A simple example of a spline cage would be to make a cube, but not from the predetermined shapes that you can just "grow". Basically you would use splines to build the edges of a cube, and then apply the "surface" modifier. Voila! You would have a cube. Remember that for the surface modifier to work, every face you build can have only 3 or four sides, no more or no less.
-
Ok, this is how tired I am LOL. I used splines to create the saucer at least the top portion of it. However right now I'm trying to get the thing a little less boxy LOL. Wow, so far the top of the saucer is at 1472 faces...but anyways...
Yeah, I think I understand a little, but how do you modify the properties to enlongate the mesh. I've done this before and I can't for the life of me remember how I did it :(. (remind me to take notes next time LOL)
Edit: Ok, the saucer is now at 608 faces...however i still would like to stretch this out a little...
Double Edit: I remember it had something to do with scaling...and i can't remember how to go about doing this. But I gots ta learn somehow :P. Remind me to take notes everytime I learn something new :)
-
if you push "r" on your keyboard, that should bring up the select and uniform scale function that allows you to stretch things. the button for it looks like a little box inside a big box.
-
Got it...I think.
I'm going to keep working on this :)
Rog
-
Ok, so far all I have is one eliptical Saucer...I'm not entirely sure how I should add the extra detail. But here's what I have so far so don't laugh at me LOL :P.
Roger W.
P.S. yes I know this is pretty much shaped like the Sovereign Saucer, but you won't recognize it once finished I guarantee it (at least when I get the hang of Max)
-
Lol, looking good. I'm trying to get used to Gmax atm.
-
TY Vortex. Right now the Saucer alone is sitting at 512 poly's LOL. But what do you guys think? Should I make it more round? Or should I leave it where it is? Because it is looking slightly boxy :)
Roger W.
EDIT: Since posting this tidbit, I have upped it to 768 poly's. It's less boxy, and right about where I want it to be :).
-
Good start. This is pretty much where it all begins. "Okay, now how do i make a saucer." :D
-
Well I did have help with both you and Sci-Fi Art. However...detailing this baby is going to be a challenge for me :) But hey I'm up for it ;)
Roger
-
Microscopic update LOL
Well, I've decided I'm going with the voyager "Dip" in the lower saucer, since I'm planning on making a belly for the underside, Although this is still gonna take a LOT of time, I'm looking somewhere between now and 2010 before this baby is officially finished (unless someone makes the time to help me learn Max 3.1, then it could be cut short.)
Here's the lower saucer!
Rog W.
-
heh, seems you found that extrude button I told you about over msn. :D
-
Actually no I didn't :"> I just edited the spline LOL I'm still looking for it :|
-
LOL, you still got the effect though. And it looks good.
-
Slight update...I'm learning the Camera feature now :D So far so good, it's a little by little process LOL. I have changed the Saucer a bit. And I still can't find the damned extrude button *angry smiles*
a little eycandy :D
Rog W.
-
Good stuff. I've got a lot of school work to do today, but if I have time for a break then I'll open up max and take a screeny of some of the controls.
-
This is on current hold while I deal with Real life issues :(. I'm in a world of emotional pain right now, and really don't feel like working on this at all for a few weeks...even though i haven't gotten any grasp of anything LOL. I still welcome help in learning Max so that I can complete this...If you'd like to post some helpful tips as DJ Curtis has, please be my guest :).
Thank you guys for your understanding and eventual support
Roger W.
-
Eh, I've actually found some time in my life to open the file and just look at it. Gawsh I need more tutorials LOL. But I am getting back into learning this but please bare with me as it will take me some time to learn :). Again, any help would be much appreciated :D
-
Nice to hear.
Unfortunatley, I have no help to offer.
-
Ok, I'm going to work more on this tonight after class, hopefully I can learn a thing or two again. I am still open to someone who has time to teach, or any sort of tutorials other than Sci-Fi art, as I'm working on the constitution Class tut there :). Thnx!
Rog W.
-
*kicks the Warning* meh, this is my own thread :P
Anywhosits, I was just reading up on this, and dadgummit if I forgot it, and wanna restart on it, and I might just do the retexture from scratch, i've been wanting to teach myself photoshop and go from there. I want to do this with a 2 year deadline, give myself time with School and work etc. We REALLY need a FC style Sovereign LOL This retexture would make an excellent one :D. On top of learning how to model with MAX, and finish the Continental Class.
Thank yew and goodnoight!
Rog W.
-
Lol... Actually, I can make things real easy for you.. you want the original Max file?
-
Lol... Actually, I can make things real easy for you.. you want the original Max file?
I'll take it! :)
catch me on msn will ya? ,-)
-
Sorry to take so long, apparently the file wasn't backed up on my hard drive.. probably never got copied back after my last reformat. I'll do some digging through my backup library and get back to you both.
-
You bet I'd LOVE to have it! LOL I'm prayin you do have it backed up somewhere! Thnx my friend!
You can catch me at my email addy eclipse74569@yahoo.com
-
Work is going slow since I'm working on this thing with a Laptop of all things LOL. Oy, my computer is in a storage unit until I move out into another house, I hate living with parents LOL. Anyways, I'm still working on this as a retexture for the time being, that is if CG can find the original max file...I really wanna make ID maps for this baby so that it's SDT Friendly (Skinning and Damaging Tool for those who don't know...) I'm using the Original hawkeye sovereign textures as a guide right now :). The textures will be 2048x2048 And I will also include 1024's as well as 512's and 256's for those with lowend systems.
Wish me luck on this one!
Roger W.
-
you should be able to get NIF import and export to max here. http://sourceforge.net/projects/niftools/ works fine with my max 9
-
As a good doctor I'll give You small sugestion, texture windows with patterns to achieve similiar effects as on FC-INS-NEM sovereign, they can be easly noticed while flybys, simple but looks a lot better than standard plain windows
-
Dr. McCoy, I must add that the windows will be textured in the style of the SNS Galaxy...I MAY Change the coloring of them however. I've restarted this from scratch but I hate it because I'm not very hand-eye co-ordinated (IE the curved darker areas of the ship :(.) And so far I've only gotten the Phaser Banks and the RCS Thrusters on the top of the Saucer textured. If there's any suggestions that you might have for the curved areas I would much appreciate it :)
Technerd: If I had my Max 8 disc I wouldn't be complaining at the moment, I would need someone to save it to .3ds format in order for me to open it in Max 3.1. If you're willing to do this, I can send you the model (IF CG gives me permission EDIT: I forgot when I wrote this that he already said that his work is fair game as long as you give him credit...my bad LOL)
Roger W.
-
Nope there's nothing I can do about that, still learning on texturing ... but about windows as I said good pattern will do great effects on ship, SNS windows are all the same they have small pattern but same applied to all windows, take for example one of my connie retextures or some WZs ships, every window has different pattern.
P.S. How do You make aztec textures on sovereign for example that's kinda hard or maybe there is a tool in photoshop, paint shop pro or gimp that I missed or dunno how to use it ? that would help me very much in futher retextures on TNG ships
-
lol well, to be completely honest, I was using the CG Sovereign textures with the screenies posted above, I've since started from scratch
And as for the portholes...i don't know, I can't duplicate the effect with my photoshop without it looking funky so I basically copied the effect that scotchy did LOL.
As for the curvature...well, I use the lasso tool, but well as I said, no hand eye co-ordination :(
-
don't use lasso, if You have point to point select then use it it's far much precise than lasso but only on bigger surfaces, if You'll use it on details it will take a while
-
Not entirely sure what that is to be honest  I'm using Photoshop CS (not 2)
-
I have PS elements 5, but it should be similar, it is a sub setting of the lasso tool, called the polygonal lasso tool, you can get it by right clicking on the lasso tool, the icon looks like the lasso, but with the "loop" shaped like a polygon.
-

I think it's not the same tool maybe cuz I'm using Paint Shop Pro 8 althoughI have Photoshop CS but I don't like its interface kinda unfriendly for people with my patience :P
-
LOL I Have PSP also, but I don't like it because if I use the TGA tool it looks funny :S. I'm saving these in PSD Format. If anyone else has any suggestions, please PM me :)
Roger
-
Well I don't like it either when it comes to mess up with alphas cuz You have to edit TGA in TGA tool then splited files edit in PSP, in PS CS & CS2 it is alot easier
-
lol Understandable :)
I think I know exactly how I'm gonna do this :). HOPEFULLY I can lol. I have a lot of work ahead of me and I'm willing to take the challenge :D
Roger
-
K, sorry to take so long getting it out, I had to move my computer home for the summer, and finding a place for it has been rather interesting.
This should be the original Max 3 file. Some of the texture mapping doesn't seem right on the left warp nacelle though, you may have to delete it, and make a copy of the right one. I couldn't find the original textures, but I'm guessing you have those already. :) If you need it in 3ds format instead, let me know.
Btw, the best way to learn anything is to just work it into a project, and teach yourself as you go. That's what the Nemesis Sovereign was, my first actual project. After that was done, I took what I learned, and made the CG Sov. Since then, I tend to make experiment projects to test ideas before actually attempting something fancy. For instance, right now I'm working on an X-Wing model that I intend to use as a testbed for a bunch of new coding for Flight Simulator X.
-
Thanks CG :). This is a learning experience for me as well as far as retexturing and other things, I'm planning on learning more of modeling though :). If it opens up in Max 3 I should be fine as far as that's concerned considering I have Max 3.1 :). Thanks again CG! Will keep this updated :D
And it's not opening in 3.1...:(
Roger
-
Hmm.. sorry it's not working, I may have sent you a file for the wrong version of Max.. this one isn't my oldest backup, so it might be for Max 8.
Here's the 3ds though. Just be warned, 3ds files screw up smoothing, texture names, etc.. and I'm not sure the mapping is correct on the nacelles, it might be either mirrored or corrupted. I'm leaving for vacation tomorrow, but I'll have internet.. just not my files, since it's not my computer. Let me know of any problems, and we'll try to sort it out when I come back friday.
-
neat, BTW CG what happened to the F-14 you were making a while back?
-
Thanks again CG. Only problem I have right now is the fact you had already started working on this making it 1.0 LOL. But that's solvable for me once I learn how to fix the top saucer the way it was in FC :)
-
K, been away on vacation, and didn't get to check in here.. everything going okay with the model now?
(off topic)
neat, BTW CG what happened to the F-14 you were making a while back?
'
Oh, it's doing great. :) Don't want to derail this, but look up iris flight simulations for more details.
-
K, been away on vacation, and didn't get to check in here.. everything going okay with the model now?
Well I haven't had much of a chance to do anything as of yet, but I'm working on new textures, which is quite difficult at the moment LOL.
EDIT: Here's what I've gotten so far (JUST top saucer y'all), the front edge needs a bit of work, but other than that It's ok :)
-
Got a little bored with being around the house a little and started work on the bridge. REMEMBER this is a FC retexture so of course it's gonna be lighter :)
Roger
-
Ok, Work is going well with this, I've already gotten maybe 1/3rd of the top Saucer done, and partial bridge textures as well (And I've started the specular highlights as they look a hell of a lot better on the ship in game :D). HOWEVER CG If you come back to this thread I'd like to know how you got all those aztech patterns on the 1.0 of your Sovereign. I would imagine it would be a tedious effort getting all that small detail in lol and it would take a long time. Am I correct in assuming this?
Roger
-
Nice work man :D
-
Very, very nice. Looking forward to seeing more textures on it.
-
K, the aztec patterns are mostly just a tileable texture that I placed as the background of my textures when I drew them. For the saucer though, it's a little different, since you need a rounded pattern. It took a little experimenting, but I actually did that in Max itself, and it was rather easy, with some experimentation.
The trick is that I didn't draw the aztec patterns on the saucer, I rendered them. :) To get the pattern right, I took all the saucer areas with rounded panel patterns, applied my aztec tile texture, and applied a cylindrical texture map to those areas. It won't work if the saucer is completely flat, since it'll just stretch the texture all over the flat faces... but with the correct UV scaling and tiling settings on the map (very high tiling numbers I think, with pretty low scaling), you'll get the aztec patterns wrapped around the surface of the saucer very nicely. It does take a lot of trial and error, but it's much faster then drawing them manually. :D
The easiest way to do it might be to just make an oval-shaped cone that approximates the shape of the saucer, give it the cylinder map and texture, and use that in the next step. Just to be safe, I'd make a copy of the model just for experimenting this way, since you might need to alter the saucer to make it work right (I think I did, which is why I think the bottom surface of the saucer is not entirely flat in some places).
After you get the panels looking good, set the tiled texture illumination to 100% to remove shadows, set your render background to black (or some other easy to filter color), and render a top/bottom view of the saucer (or imitation saucer). Make sure the image resolution is decent for the size texture you're making, then just copy/paste the render into your texture as the background for the saucer details.
I imagine you could also do the same within the model, modeling a few panels, and then using some feature of Max to tile them around the saucer, but I really don't know much about how to do that (I may have to try it someday though, would look awesome to have the aztec panels modeled in :D).
-
mmmmm...kay lol considering I'm using Photoshop for the textures (I haven't yet touched the model for the ID maps, I am an aquanted modeler, got a lot of kinks to work out :)...) Perhaps I could just use the lasso tool and make several random shapes and then copy/paste them in a circular pattern??? I think that would work out easier with Photoshop, it would still take some time, but I think I can pull it off (possibly do half the saucer then mirror it) :). And i'll be working on this later on tomorrow (considering my last day of summer classes are today, and I'll be registering for fall semester on the 6th)
EDIT: Oops...Well, I'll have to find some tutorials about texturing in Max, I still haven't gotten the hang of it yet...but I shall someday :)
-
Something that always annoyed me with the Nemesis Sovereign was the area around the shuttle bay...innacurate LOL So here's my update :D
EDIT: P.S. Forgive the alpha channels, i forgot to take them out lol. Oh and I forgot to say the top saucer is looking like a Sovereign one now ;). Although I had to use the 1.0 for it, it looks excellent :)
-
this is looking really sweet! :D
-
UPDATE: I've slightly changed the Secondary hull at least what I've gotten so far. I've now also added the shuttle bay doors to the sec hull. Saucer hasn't changed much, I wanna work on different things while I work on this LOL keep me from procrastination :D.
CG: Do you by any chance have MSN? If so could ya add me? I think I've got it in my profile, if not I'll have added it by the time you get this :P
-
im realy lking the progress of this ship looking very good hope to see more :dance
-
will it have animated bussard collectors like the CG sov?
-
Yes, it will. Right now I'm just making this a retexture of the original ship file until I learn enough about modeling to learn how to fix a couple of problems with the max file I have :). I actually have three...one max file was imported using the NIFtools NIF Plugin, and well, I haven't figured out what is going on, but when I render it, it's not showing the textures...the maps are there, but the textures aren't showing up (neither is the ifl file). Another file is the Second one CG gave me...The one CG Gave me is a post release...he had already started editing it to make it look more like the Nemesis Sovereign...with the neck and torpedo bays. The bays have been deleted, but I'm not sure how I should go about fixing the neck. The third is the same as the second, only it's the Raw mesh...not converted or anything. I would need Max 8 to have any option of opening it, and unfortunately, I don't have it on my laptop. So I need to hurry up with my desktop :D
Anywhosits, enjoy these photos while I sleep ;)
-
its coming along!, this is cool!, finally competition for the CG sov. :D
-
hehe, CG's 1.0 is the complete CG Sov...this is just his FC Sovereign ;)
-
hehe.. now i feel like a newb
-
looks great
-
Thanks, don't know how much it means to me for a well respected individual like yourself to leave a good comment :D. Gives me that much more motivation LOL
-
eclipse... this is looking awesome but not to detract from the topic of this thread but, what ever happened to your TOS pack?
-
o ya, that is a good point...
-
Ooops! My bad  I got you confused with Phaser and his TOS pack. Sorry about that. Too many long hours at work must be getting to me.
Anyhow, The Hawkeye Sovvies are coming along very nicely.
-
LOL, I kept trying to reply Moed, but my connection hates me LOL. Yes you did get me quite confused :P it's all good though. :)
EDIT: More work on the saucer...I've included a couple of escape pod areas on the saucer, it's really starting to look like the Sovereign Class of FC :). At least the top saucer anyways. I plan on editing more of the impulse engines later today with my free time :D but for now here ye go!
DOUBLE EDIT: Oops, I forgot to mention, i'm cutting and pasting the lifeboats from CG's 1.0 mainly because I wanna hurry up with this one, BUT I plan on editing them to make them look right from First Contact. The rest of it is being built from scratch. Including the Impulse Engines (which I haven't even figured out how I'm going to go about doing that...IF CG or CR has any suggestions...hell if anyone has suggestions PLEASE post them :) )
-
Looking nice there and its about time someone did a decent fc sov model dont get me wrong i love the nemesis refit and cgs 1.0 but we never had a fc version and from the looks of it so far its freaking awsome. Nice work!!
-
Well it was a decent FC Model to begin with (this is CG's first Sovereign, his Prototype to the 1.0), I'm just retexturing it :D. The first version is on BC Files. Look for "Hawkeye Sovereign Pack 1.0) in the ships section :)
-
First Successful Alpha Channel (at least...a little bit of it LOL)
Rog W.
-
So far looking good, as for impulse engines, I would use pattern from CG sov but only change color to hot red, just like in my post nem sovereign v2, I think it is good enough color I took it from DVD caps so It should be accurate
-
LOL Now if only I knew how to go about doing that. Truth be told I'm using the original Hawkeye Sovereign textures as a basis. I'm not entirely sure how to go about getting that glow effect with it, but I'm going to do some experimenting tonight before i go to work :)
-
This is a good ship, comparable to CG's Sovereign. My only complaint was that the blue warp grills were too bright. For me, I can always change it.
Hmm, need anyone to create ship registries?
-
ya, they are a little bright...
-
No thanks on the registries, I've gotten the hang of it ;). As far as the nacelle grilles...I'll change that soon...just not today :)
-
UPDATE: Hope you likes the neck, it's finished until I get some winder's in'ere (Southern com'n out of me :D)
EDIT: Oops, um, it's not finished I still need to add two or more things to it :) THEN it'll be finished LOL. at least without the windows anyways, which I've already started working on since i posted this post today :)
-
Heyo Folks, Just a little update :) I've finished the neck details for now, that includes the windows, and I'm working on the bottom part of the second hull. So far so good, if I weren't on my mom's computer I'd post a couple screenies LOL. The only thing I don't like is the curved escape pod area on the secondary hull, It's bugging me because it's slightly stretched I'm not sure how I should go about getting this looking right, but again I'm working on experimentations only untill I get the hang of texturing myself :). Hope you all are enjoying what little progress I'm making on this one LOL. I haven't had much time to do more lately due to work and sleep, and eating, and school and what nots :D
-
those are all important things man. You dont need to apologize for having a life. We're patient. It may not appear that way at times but we are. Keep your life going, take your time and do it right. The last thing we want is a rush job.
-
Ick.. I've never been happy with was that lower strip of escape pods. They wrap around the hull at such an odd angle, they're almost impossible to texture without some nasty stretching. The big problem is making them appear flat from a side view.
I think the main problem with them is that the hull isn't quite the right shape in that area. It probably is too narrow, so widening it a bit might help.. but then you stretch the other parts. I'm hoping to finally fix that on the 2.0, I've just had too many other projects to even start retexturing that one. :?
-
It's alright CG, although I'm not extremely experienced in modeling, I'm only a beginner unfortunately, I hope to at least play with the backup max file I made so that I can learn the tricks of the trade :)
As far as the escape pods are concerned, I think I might try a different approach. I've borrowed them from the 1.0 mainly because I'm not sure how to go about doing the red outlines, or the lettering, which I can barely read, but it says something along the lines of "Hi There, You must be (insert something here)" LOL nice little touch there I gotta say with the "inside joke" :). Kinda like the Vivace with the "if you can read this" bumper sticker :D
-
Here I am with more photos of work LOL you can see I still need to work a bit with those escape pods, but I think I'll get it ;)
And the neck of the Secondary hull is finished officially :)
Official Edit of the Hawkeye Sovereign Pack 2.0...:
CG's Nacelle grille texture resized and proportioned like the Hawkeye's looks...EXCELLENT!
-
lol i hate that texture in the window above the shuttle may in pics 2 and 3. other than that great job, im glad i was able to convert the model for you
-
That window does look a little too bright of a blue, but progress is looking good. :D
Btw, for the impulse grilles... the way I remember doing it, I made a bunch of slightly glowy bright reddish strips on a darker reddish background, then shifted two sections from the middle about 30%-50% offline from the rest of the pattern. For the CG 1.0 I just used the originals, and piled on filters until they looked like Insurrection. :p
-
I was considering toning it down a bit in the alpha channel...might even make it a purplish grey color too. I think it looks like that in FC (the whole purplish grey thing).
As far as the impulse engines are going, Right now I'm using the 1.0's until I can figure out how to go about doing what CG just said. I'm personally thinking that I might just use the square marquee tool in Photoshop for several of those strips, put in an inner and outer glow and then segment the two sections like CG Suggested :). Go back and rotate them until they fit onto the original texture then polylasso the texture, invert, delete the unwantedness and there we go :).
As far as the model is concerned, i haven't touched it yet. I'm glad I made about 20 backups though LOL I like being too careful at times :D experimentation is good mmm'kay
EDIT: I've updated the bridge texture, I hope this is better, I sure think it is :)
-
Looking great eclipse.
One request: when this mod is ready for release, please make it so it does not overwrite any other Sovereign mod. I have several Sovvy mods installed on my different installs of BC and would like to keep all of them as I have tweaked them individually.
Thanks!
-
Don't worry about that, it won't overwrite any other Sovereign as the data/models/ships folder name will be named SovereignClassFC :). I may include a seperate file folder for those who want it to overwrite though.
Roger
-
SLIGHT update. I've put some Azteching on the bridge area which you can probably BARELY see LOL, and I've added the main shuttle bay, now all I need to do is add the alpha maps on the shuttle bay, more azteching and winder's and she'll be the only completed texture LOL
-
Just wanted everyone to know that I may only get to work on this once maybe twice a week due to work and school :) (I hate doing both full time LOL, but I gots to earn money somewhere and learn something somewhere :D) But I will update you guys when I can. Thanks for your patience :) and thanks for the support :D
Roger
-
Lol.. the Sov is cursed.. anyone who makes one gets too busy to finish it the way they want :P
-
No worries eclipse, your Hawkeye sov is looking awesome. Life come first. All good things....
Cheers dude :D
-
Lol.. the Sov is cursed.. anyone who makes one gets too busy to finish it the way they want :P
lol, but I've already given a deadline of 2 years, and I'm just about a quarter of the way finished...that's good progress for something I restarted about 6 months ago LOL. I am curious to know though if there's some way to get a rounded aztec pattern using photoshop...I wish I were more advanced with Max...I would have done it that way :). However until I get my Continental Class starship finished (I'm starting to think it's cursed too LOL). I won't be touching the Hawkeye Sovereign Model (I do know though that I have Max 8 on my PC, it might help me learn with the Hawkeye Sovereign, and your techniques :D)
EDIT: I am putting in also phaser warning strips as they were seen in FC. I'm not sure if CG's 1.0 had them
Roger W
-
however long it takes, it should be a good retexture looking at these standards. Keep up the good work!
~Jb06
-
I know I added the phaser warnings at some point, don't know if they got released tho.
And I know there are ways of doing the rounded panels... I wish I knew how P81 did them on his Sovereign model, they were very cleanly drawn, even if they weren't quite the right pattern type.
-
Hehe, if anyone else could fill us in ;) I'd be happy to try it out, because right now I'm stuck LOL. It's the only reason I haven't finished working on the saucer as far as getting the windows up and running :)
Roger W.
-
Slight bump, no work as of late due to work and School LOL. Oy CG you're right about the Sovereign...that is unless LC has worked on his :D
-
i have some slight bad news :(.
I didn't make a up to date backup, and my laptop died on me, I need a new hard drive. HOWEVER I did make an outdated backup with my work, so all is not lost. I need to readd the aztec patterning on the bridge, the shuttle bay, the alpha for the shuttle bay, and the phaser warning strips (as well as redownloading KM 1.0 so that I can play with my current favorite...the LC Intrepid :D). Wish this hadn't happened, but at least I didn't loose ALL my work :D
-
Dude that sucks! But as you said, at least not all is lost.
-
I've learned about that the hard way as well. :( Best recommendation I could make is get an external usb backup drive. Barring any really nasty viruses that might infect them, they're fairly separate from the rest of the computer. I've considered just saving all my work externally, but I tend to just back up major things occasionally.
-
lol Well I'm learning that I can just buy several dozen packs of CD's to due the same thing :P however I'm looking for my flash drive at the moment to save more work :). I wonder if wally world has a 1 gig...
-
flash drives keep getting cheaper, I think somone I know got a 2 gig for about $20 recently.
-
4 gigs for 16.95 at wally world :D
-
i found a 2gig for $10 at best buy once!
-
Ok, i got the phaser warning strips on the top of the saucer :) and now will be working on the bridge for a bit before I go off to work :D.
P.S. I know they're a bit off but I'm working on it :D
-
look'en good!
-
Coming along very nicely!
-
Ok, I got my PC back online now, and guess what? The ORIGINAL Max file opened like a charm. So I edited it and got it back to it's orignal state :D. YAY!
Oh and CG: I noticed when I made my first pack that the bottom saucer wouldn't switch out textures, is there any reason for this? And how can I edit this?
-
Hey folks, just finished up some texturing on the bridge, all I need now is the shuttle bay, the alpha maps for said shuttle bay, shield grids on the bridge, and a couple other things before the bridge itself is finished :)
And CG, I need to talk with you on MSN sometime, there's an extra bottom saucer where it needn't be, and I'm having a hard time fixing it without damaging the top...
-
Ok.. that's weird. I wonder if it got duplicated a long time ago. Do you mean there's basically a duplicate in the model, and each face has a double in the same place?
Also, what do you mean that the saucer won't switch out textures? Is this related to the registry switching, or something else?
-
Well it was created when I deleted some editing that you had done (basically make it look more like an FC Sovereign, you had updated it close to a Nemesis Sov). But I can send you the model back at least, what I've done with it so you can take a look...Thank heavens for backups though LOL
-
*stretches then yawns, then cringes cuz he's sunburned* Damned beach LOL See if i ever enjoy a good vacation again :P. Anywhos, no updates because of this, but I'm going to work on some of this tomorrow after my big spanish test :arms:
-
Bump, as I need to really say there isn't much to update on, just changing the camera angles and what not, I'm going to complete the conny tutorial on sci-fi art, if I can figure out how to make the teardrop a/b decks correctly since I'm using 3.1 instead of 2.5.
I would still appreciate any advice though on how to go about finishing this baby up so I can get her in game and ready for bcfiles.
My goal is somewhere around 10k, not too big as I know there are still people with small machines. Texture size is going to be 1024, unless however I decide to cut it down to like 2 or 3 textures, then it might be 2048, plus an ID map :)
Roger
-
How about making it a connie/sov type of ship? Not a kitbash but more of a sov looking connie.
Give it a small, yet sleek neck and a slender secondary hull, make it smooth flowing and some pylons curving out of the secondary hull, then into some really stylish nacelle design.
Also, great to hear this is still going. :D
-
No, I'll pass on the conny stuff LOL Truth is this is going for the more streamlined look of the Sovereign, where it just...looks fast! No offense or anything. I'll get this going soon after my Sovereign retexture (Hawkeye Sovereign)
-
This thing just went active once again LOL. I've added the texture for a shuttle bay, and I added a couple of windows so far, but will work more on this tomorrow as well as getting some Screenies up :). It's coming along well now, and I'm very VERY happy wwith the results thus far. Now if someone could fill me in as to how I could go about getting an aztec pattern on the Saucer I would be most happy lol.
Roger
-
Update on the bridge, I plan on adding the rest of the windows, the bridge itself, more azteching, shield grids, and alpha maps to the windows and shuttle bay sometime tomorrow and I will be finished with the bridge, and will work more on the secondary hull (which should be easier than the Saucer since it's pretty straight...)
-
look'n good!
-
That looks really great, the Sovereign is my favorite ship, and i love the work you done so far
-
I am starting to like this! I just hope it overwrites the stock Sovereign. :D
-
Unfortunately Wiley, it's not...Simple fact that this baby doesn't have an ID Map alone is why I won't overwrite it. I plan on making one when I have enough experience with modeling to do it. BTW, do you by any chance know how to make a circular pattern like for aztecing?
-
Bump whilst I'm at it, I gots an update...sort of. I've started working on the Nacelles, however I'm afraid of the aztecing...I'm gonna work on the dark grey areas first and the "Vent" type grills on the pylons :). if i can get the texture right that is...I'm liable to just make one huge thing, then chop it to shape and see how that goes. Will post pictures when I have them :D
EDIT: oops, I forgot one thing, I've made a placeholder Aztec pattern on the top saucer till I can learn how to just make it straighter..right now it looks like it's stretched upon the hull and it shouldn't look that way :( Photo is attached this time LOL
-
Good work on the aztecing! It is usually hard to get it looking just right. The nacelles have a slanted/vertical appearance. Will there be any bump mapping speculars?
-
Probably on the items that really need to be bumped (IE The edge of the Saucer and the area where the registries will be on the top saucer) I haven't quite figured out which yet LOL.
Yeah I've given up on the aztec thing for now, I mean, it won't be THAT noticable once I get the windows and other small details on it. So I won't worry with it :). I am just irked about it lol. It's kinda like the Impulse Engines...I haven't quite gotten them right just yet LOL
-
Keep at it with those Aztecs e74569, I like what you've done with the ship so far. As Wiley said, the aztecing is the hardest thing to get right, especially on a ship like the Sovereign.
Good work!! 8)
-
Ok, I've added the Transporter Emitters, and a couple of other things, and I plan on working more on the Aztec Patterning Thursday Evening after school :). I think I have figured out how I'm gonna make it look a bit better than it does :). Then I'll add the Windows and the rest of the Lifeboats, and some other things and the Top Saucer will then be fixed and finished, And I will move on to the lower Saucer :D.
-
well I've added the last couple of sections of escape pods, and have started working on more of the details on the darker areas, to make them a bit more appropriate. Once I get them finished, I'll merge those layers and move on to the Windows. Now, I've seen people redo the CG Sovereign windows to an almost purplish hue...but I think I may add some whites to this as well as some dull-yellows...make it a bit more accurate. Does anyone object?
Roger
-
pics man!! wanna see pics!! LOL j/k when you ready i can't wait to see this badboy..you are doing an absolutely fantastic job with this.
-
Well since this is the First Contact Enterprise-E, I say make the windows shades of blue. Do what you want, and experiment with different colors, and post pictures. :)
-
Question: Are these brand new textures or are they being adapted from the CG Sov?
-
Both...I've used some elements from the CG Sovereign on there (escape pods, and certain bridge areas (And credits are given ;)) But I'm also doing a lot of this from scratch using the original Hawkeye sovereign textures as my basis. :)
I'm using the original texture as the background and tracing on the layers that are needed. If you'd like I could post JPG's of what I've done mainly because I have a hard time explaining myself LOL. :)
-
Progress report :D
-
Looking good as usual. :D
-
looks great! :D
-
New aztecs look good, but I should warn you of something... when I did the CG Sov, I thing I did the aztec patterns on several sections completely separately... especially the inner raised area. I think I pieced it together to get the awkward oval pattern to it. Don't know if you want to try it, but it'd make the paneling line up with the saucer contours.
-
another question....are those phaser strips mere placeholders until you do the all the strips? or is that the final texture for those? Just curious...
-
Final texture, they're adapted on the topmap2_glow texture from the CG sovereign, You can't really tell it, but they've got the little "rib" to it like the CG1.0. Then again, the speculars are on and they do kinda take that away LOL
Roger
EDIT: CG: Thanks, that's actually what I'm considering doing with it, I think I've figured out how I can achieve that using Photoshop, it'll take a bit of time though lol.
-
i love the atec on it :D
-
Looking good, the aztecing looks a lot better. Keep us posted mate!! 8)
-
Glenn, I haven't really done anything with the aztec...just added a few other things LOL. I plan on updating this in the near future :)
-
I've started on the Engine Maps (as I've stated earlier, I get bored trying to work on one, and go to the next LOL.) I'll have photos up as soon as I'm home again (which should be wednesday.)
-
wow, looking great, i love it
:D
-
I love what you're doing here. Always wanted an FC Sovereign...
Anyway, I was wondering if you found someone to do the HP yet. If you haven't, I've spent lots of time with the CG Sovereign in MPE, and I would be more than happy to do it for you.
-
Actually I'm using the same HP as the 1.0. P$YCHO did them a while back, but the only thing I'm gonna do is take off some torpedo tubes that weren't on the FC. But thank you anyways for the offer :).
Roger
-

Roger
OK, just wanted to be sure everything was taken care of.
About the textures:
The ship looks great so far...but
I noticed that in FC, the Enterprise's dorsal engineering armor has no space between the plates, as the attached pic shows.
Good Luck, eclipse! :)
-
That's...not entirely accurate. It's the photo that's making it look that way. Trust me the way I've got it is cannon :)
-
Yep, he's right, they built the model a little differently.. I think on that version, the plates might have been recessed, rather than raised, or the spaces between them were just smaller.. at least that's the way the Ertl kit was made, but I don't trust that for much. :P
-
CG, the plates there are recessed in the pic, and they're larger.
E74569, just trying to put some ideas out there, it looks great either way.
-
Actually CG, they aren't recessed. AMT got it wrong with that. It's raised like in Insurrection and in Nemesis.
Here's a link to several references that I'm also using for this mod (http://employees.csbsju.edu/rsorensen/modelcitizen/trekships/sovereign/index.html):) I need to get with you about that aztecing. But I haven't the time this weekend due to work and girlfriend...(THANKSGIVING in the US)
-
A bit of an update before I go to the Dr. I'm working on the nacelles again. And then it'll be back to the top part of the secondary hull. I hope to be complete with all of this within a year and a half. With School and other life issues, I'm not gonna make this a 6 month thing LOL Wanna space things out :D.
-
Lol.. that's the only way to work on the Sov you know... first time around took me 2 years or so... second iteration is taking me 4+ :P
-
lol I still like to get with u about the aztecing :)
-
Wow, CG, I'm learning a few things with the original .max file. Gonna try and make some ID maps for this thing so that i can use 1 texture for the Registries :) (thank heavens for .3ds files and the "preserve texture co-ordinates" feature :D). I STILL need to get with you about the aztecing though lol. Just wanna learn a few things cuz I still can't get it right.
The bug with the original model that was bothering me is now fixed. Now I'm working on making ID maps for this model so I can make this a small pack :). I have you to thank CG :D
Roger W
-
No I'm not trying to map CG's 1.0 ID map onto this model LOL
-
Wow, looks pretty sweet. :D The front part of the saucer still looks a little stretched (tiles are bigger in the front portion than anywhere else), but it's looking really good.
Btw, just fyi, when I did the aztec for the registry area, I didn't do any fancy mapping.. I took a rectangular texture, and rotated it to fit the individual panels. Probably not quite accurate, but the area is small enough that it works.
The big thing to keep in mind when doing the aztec paneling is that is has to make sense structurally...well, relatively anyway.. the sovereign's pattern is the most scatterbrained thing ever, with very little organization to it. But the panels should always follow the larger construction lines of the ship. On a circular saucer that's easy, but the weird pseudo-ellipse of the sov is a pain. In general, try to make the smaller panels line up with big panels. I would try to describe it, but I think a picture is better.
Basically, the key to making the aztec panels look good is giving the saucer a grid structure, and sticking to it. With a circular saucer, this is extremely easy, you just get pie slices and concentric circles. The Sov's weird oval dish screws that up, and you wind up with something more complicated, with two separate focal points ahead and behind the bridge at the center. Really, a good example is the Galaxy dish, since it's got a nearly identical oval profile, just turned 90 degrees. I can't remember if I did this or not, but you might be able to overlay the Galaxy dish pattern on the Sov for a basic grid structure.
This is a portion of the upper saucer, with some of the grid lines highlighted to show how I tried to line up the aztec panels. It's not perfect, since the methods I used stretched the texture a little, but overall, the majority of panel lines on the saucer will line up with some grid. It's finding the correct grid that can be a pain.
Depending on your painting software, it might be possible to take a rectangular tile of aztec panels, and warp it to fit into sections of the grid.
-
Thanks CG, I'll keep it in mind. I plan on working on the model, as well as the textures, trying to darken the saucer text. a bit on thursday and friday before I head over to my girlfriend's house :D. I'm happy with how this thing is turning out. And I plan on making ID maps for several other ships that deserve it! I'm tired of having ship packs with 10 models for different ships, just annoying, and a waste of space :)
Roger
-
Nice update eclipse!!. :D
It's coming on quite nicely, also I think darkening the hull textures is a good idea too. I'd be interested in seeing what you come up with lol. :)
CG also hit the nail right on the head when he mentioned using a grid to make aztecing the hull a lot easier. Whilst modding the Nebula and Galaxy Classes I found that doing the actual hull lines before laying down any other textures helps a lot. Also if you're using Photoshop be sure to make good use of layers of textures, it really helps!!
Nice work, keep it up!!

Also if you're using Photoshop be sure to make good use of layers of textures, it really helps!!
Nice work, keep it up!!
Thanks Glenn
Since this is going to be an FC Sovereign class, this is gonna require me to remap the Nacelles a bit too. Not by much, but I'm going to include a set of glows on this where there are spotlights on the inboards of the Nacelles. (which also required me to tweak the CG sovereign ID map a little, also I got rid of the darker panels that were on the top of the saucer, which wasn't present on the FC Sovereign)
CG: Thanks again for lending me the model. This has helped me out quite a bit. I'm also glad I got rid of those problems that was plaguing me a while back LOL.
Anywhosits. I'll update again either thursday or friday
-
Playing around with the material editor...and all be gosh darned if I didn't get the alpha's on here LOL
heehee...
-
Looking good
I really like the glows and the ramscoop textures, very nice indeed!!
*Gives a BIG Cookie!!* 8)

I look forward to seeing more of her mate, great work.

USS Republic
USS Enterprise
USS Sovereign
USS Nimitz
USS Independance
USS Kyoto (won't overwrite the Intrepid class pack)
USS Vigilant
USS Columbia
Edited to show more names
-
actually since this is an FC Sovereign there should only be 12 phaser arrays and two dual tube photon launchers and the single quantum burst tube. The extra torpedo launchers and phaser arrays don't appear until Star Trek Nemesis.
-
Actually...hate to burst it. but there are 3 photon torpedo tubes, two fore and one aft. You're correct on the phasers.
-
Hrm...I was under the impression that there was the dual burst fire tubes in the front and dual-single fire tubes aft...But of course i could be wrong...lol..I knew the phasers because they are clearly visible..lol
-
I think there actually are dual fire tubes in the back, they're right at the base of the "scoop" in the hull, where the Galaxy has a tractor emitter. I don't have access to any pics at the moment, but I think that little box has two tubes.
Actually though, I'd need to watch Insurrection for that one..I think that's the only time we see the FC style Sov firing rear torps.
I know in Nemesis, there are several rear torps.. two above the bridge, one above the rear shuttle bay, one under the shuttle bay... and on the CG Sov, I put in the two at the bottom of the hull. At the time I was building it, everyone was more concerned with the forward weapons, so I think those didn't get scrutinized much..now that I think of it, I'm not sure I've ever seen confirmation of those two.
-
I know where u tare talking about right before the ventral fantail above the tractor beam emitter assembly on the sec hull
-
Yeah...i'm sorry i got mixed up...you both are right, I misread the post LOL.
-
Bump: Page 5 updated name listing :)
-
Well, as a few people already know in case some didn't get to read my last post before they restored BCC. My grandmother passed away Monday, but I had been a bit in the dumps with it beforehand because i knew it was coming. On top of other things (Exams, and girlfriend who doesn't like star trek :() I haven't had much time to update. I'm working on the original model right now as well as another project...Then I'll be working on my continental class again (that's if I can learn my way around Max 8...I'm getting better at applying the original textures onto models every time I import an .nif into max, but I wanna learn more). Right now though with this, I'm working on making ID maps for this booger, and I plan on working more on the re-texturing part :).
-
Almost finished mapping the registry textures onto the ship...but I have to fix the nacelles now LOL. Where I create the ID's on the nacelles it's kinda warped the textures. So as soon as I fix that I'll post pics :)
-
UGH LOL I'm gonna have to remap the saucer and nacelle ID's lol....forgot to save the last batch, but nothing I can't handle :)
Anyways though, here's a few update pics...I AM using CG's 1.0 ID_glow texture which is slightly modified (and will be modified again to include a new forward window on the bottom saucer, close to the Yacht/quantum launcher). I've basically taken unneccessary parts out that I'll texture in using the bottom Saucer texture, and added two more nacelle ID Textures (which will also be modified to include RCS Thrusters) so that I can add spotlight glows to the inside of the nacelle (they weren't present on the outside). I've mapped the secondary hull ID maps (close to the nacelles not the shuttle bay, have yet to map that.) CG, again Thanks!
-
Hey folks, I'm just curious to know if anyone would be interested in testing the model out once i get her id map's...well...mapped? I wanna see how she handle's on different install's. THIS IS NOT A BETA TEST YET. I just wanna see how the updated model damages in game on different installs. (out of my own curiosity)
Anyone willing to participate (that includes you CG if you're willing ;)) can contact me via PM, or email @ eclipse74569@yahoo.com.
Thnx,
Roger
-
Well I'm having to redo the entire ID maps for the simple fact that they refuse to line up with the original model, so what i'm doing is taking a copy of the original model I've had for quite some time, deleting everything around the ID maps, re-maping them for the ID Map above, grouping, and merging them with the entire mesh to complete this bugger. I may make a ID map from the original hawkeye texture to be a placeholder for the modified CG 1.0 version till I complete the retexture of the ship. I've had one offer on the damaging testing for the model. Anyone else feel free to send me a line!
Edit: excuse me I made a mistake when I said one person, I got an email. So two damaging testers :).
-
It will be interesting to see how it turns out.
-
Small Update, I've managed to get the saucer and one side of a nacelle done LOL as far as mapping...I plan on doing the rest sometime next week :)
EDIT: And before anyone points it out yes I know the nacelle itself needs a touchup as far as the pendant being a bit squished. I'm working on remapping it LOL. :)
-
She looks pretty good in the renders, and she hasn't even got complete speculars yet!
This is shaping up to look very nice.
-
Lookin' pretty nifty there, keep it up. :)
-Aeries.
-
You can thank CG for the renders LOL if not for him the what I like to call "ID project" wouldn't be underway :). It's his ship, so a lot of credit goes to him :)
(reminder...this is not the CG1.0, rather the one he did prior to 1.0)
-
How about a little Enterprise :D
Forgive the blurriness, It'd be sharper, but I resized the .tga to 1024X1024.
Registries will be done in the manner that Scotchy did his galaxy registries :).
-
This is very nice, excellent work :D
-
Not bad at all, I like what you've done both with the regs and the nacelles. Those nacelle grilles look excellent!! :D
-
ty. I'll finish up the modeling thursday ano then work on the retexturing part afterwards
And on that note, here are some spotlights :D
-
Looks good. But don't forget the spotlights on the very front of the pennants as well. The ship has them in FC and INS but in Nemesis.
-
I haven't forgotten anything, I just need to texture it in when I make the Nacelle Textures. The ID mapping is about 75% done I have the secondary hull to worry about now :). Afterwards it's back to textures LOL
-
Lookin good eclipse,
Your sovvie is shaping up quite nicely!! 8)
-
I wish I could take credit for it all. I can only take credit for the textures that I'm working on (and only one of those gets maybe a 1/2500 credit on it lol). If not for CG's modeling skills this wouldn't be happening to be quite honest :). When this is all finished, I'm going to take more tutorials on creating models and mapping them in Max 8 (unfortunately I can't afford 9, nor do I have the computer UMPH to run it)
-
okay...
maybe you didnt do everything on your own, BUT
you put in a LOT of time and effort in your projects which is looking great so far! PLUS youre updating this thread all the time and posting pictures. youre an exemplary modder! seriously man, and i really admire your work, and i think im not the only one :P
really looking forward to your work,
gdan87
-
Hehe... look at it this way... you've put more work into this thing than I've done in quite a while ;)
Glad I could help out some, but you're basically taking two separate mods and bashing them together, with pretty good results, and you deserve a lot of credit for that. :)
Oh, just make sure to change the window colors.. you don't want to have people bugging you about those constantly. :P
-
lol Trust me CG, I'm gonna experiment with some window colors. As well as layer properties similar to those on Scotchy's galaxy windows...So far I like what I've gotten though :). And all I'm doing model wise is just putting ID maps in...the RCS thrusters are textured in LOL.
I'm happy that people are liking this project.
-
Well I haven't gotten around to doing anything with this thing with the last couple of days...been busy playing with my stepkids in the snow :D. anywhosits, I'm planning on making a comeback with this thing and fixing my laptop so i can devote my time to making this baby work :)
-

Take your time mate. All good things.... :D
-
lol definitely taking my time on this one :). I hope I get the textures going soon though :).
-
UPDATE: Guess who got his laptop working LOL. Not much done, the nacelles are pretty much finished as far as the ID mapping is concerned. I did have to chop and readjust the Unwrap UVM, but other than that it's perfect the way I want it :D. So...now onto the secondary hull...
-
Hey guys forgive me for not updating in a couple of weeks. I've been very busy with work and school. On top of a breakup as well, and me misplacing my Flash drive, I haven't been working on this faithfully like I should be. However once I find the flash drive and my photoshop CD (to upload it onto my laptop so I can work there too) I should be able to finish this soon :). I still need alpha testers for the damaging, I've got two so far.
Roger
-
Ooooh, ouch dude. You have sympathy and understanding from me, that's for sure. Best luck, man. I'm sure it'll all pull through and I'm also sure we're all looking forward to future updates on this project. No rush, though.
-Aeries.
-
Hehe, I forgot I hadn't deleted my recycle bin so more updates soon LOL.
Hehe, this is what I get when I'm bored, started working on the aztec patterning on the top saucer again...This time I'm going about it in a different light. Similar to what i was doing before, but going to make it work this time :D.
Rog
-
Update. I've managed to do a better job with the Aztec Panels...It fits more, not entirely like it should, but better than what it was last time :).
P.S. I plan on lightening up some of those Aztecs and also I plan on filling in some gaps that are obvious in certain areas. Other than that I'm done with the Aztecing on the Top Saucer. The only thing needing texturing now is portholes :)
-
Killer work Rog.
-
Coming from a well respected modeler and texturer as yourself DJ, I take that as a VERY High compliment :). Just wait till I finish her :D I'll do this ship justice.
-
Nice work indeed e74569. 8)
The textures on the dorsal saucer are excellent, I cna't wait to see her in-game complete with speculars.
Weldone, have a cookie!! :D
-
very impressive texture work, have a cookie for the excellent job you have done so far :D
-
thanx for the update :)
its looking really fine so far :)
-
Thanks folks for the compliments :) I've figured out how to use the Unrwap UVM feature LOL. So I'm going back and redoing the ID maps the way I wanted to do it in the first place :). Hopefully I'll get some photos soon :D.
-
Totally cool. Great work. Time for a cookie... :)
-Aeries.
-
Ok, I got an NIF file of the FCSovereign, and so far so good, the only problem is that the animations are acting funky on the Bussards...I'm not sure how to correct the animations but it almost looks kinda transparent. Never mind I think I've figured it out...
-
Looks good so far.
Could just be me... looks like the "spotlight" over the registry is a taaaaaad on the bright side. :/
-Aeries.
-
I'm not sure I think i have the bright glow bug fix mutator off and that's why it's so bright, lemme try out the CG 1.0 and I'll let you know
EDIT: Yea, you're right it is a bit on the bright side, I'm gonna tone it down to about 50 percent on the model and see if that helps. If it's too dim I'll up it till I get to at most 75. And I think I've figured out the problem on the animations :). I'll have to test it out in a bit
-
Kape. :)
-
Ok, uhm, Yah...I'm doing something wrong with the Bussard Animation...One it's going a bit faster than the CG1.0 and two, take a look...
-
Looks like someone just lit a cigarette inside a bussard collector full of volatile gas.
-
Eek...
-
Looks like someone just lit a cigarette inside a bussard collector full of volatile gas.
Yea, that metreon gas is quite explosive.
-
Either way...excellent progress...I can't wait for this ship to come out!
-
I'm hidin in yer nacelz, smokin all yer weedz......
-
Weasel, I don't see how you can smoke something I don't smoke :P.
Anywhosits, can anyone please help me with my animation problem? I'm getting frustrated trying to figure out what the heck is going on LOL.
I can provide the Max 3.1 max file if anyone needs it (I'm finding that it's the only NIF exporter that will work properly without my game crashing...If anyone has some tips on the NifTools Max 8 exporter lemme know!)
-
I'm not entirely sure this has anything to do with my animation problem, but it's kinda funny that my ID maps shine through the bussards.....
-
I don't think it's only the map showing through, if you look, you can see stars through the bussards, as if they are transparent.
Edited to include forgotten words.
-
That's what I mean...It's showing the ID maps, not the rest of the ship.....
-
Ahhh, welcome to the world of figuring out how on earth I ever got those crazy bussards to work.
To tell the truth, I still don't know what I did to fix that. I think it was some random combination of material settings in Max, and to be honest I only got it working once. After that, I just saved those working bussards separately, and imported them into whatever version I was working on. I got this type of result for several weeks solid on the 1.0 (last issue fixed before it was released I think).
I'll have to look at the original file and see if anything interesting in the material settings catches my eye... I think I remember tweaking a lot of weird settings that you don't normally use for BC.
-
Wow, I'm not sure how it is in max...but it looks like it has a NiAlphaProperty attached to the object. It does transparencies in BC. You don't need that for animated textures, at least...not always. Easily fixable in nifskope for the nif format but I don't know about before that though.
Edit:
Wait a minute, let me rethink this. I'm looking at the post nemesis sovvie now and I can see 2 layers. One is the Red glow while the other is an animation with transparencies. So I'm thinking that the inner layer needs for it's transparencies to be turned off.
Edit #2:
Okay, nevermind. I don't know what I'm talking about, lol :D
-
Yah, the animation was a pain to figure out. I have to find the original file still before I can tell what I did. It's not that the inner layer is transparent.. it's that the outer layer being transparent FORCES the inner layer to be transparent too.. I have no idea why. It's not consistent either.. You know the ridged look it has? There are little sections that aren't fully transparent, but most of the texture still is.
If BC could do glowing animations, this would be really simple... but it can't. Oddly, it can do transparent animations though... so basically, the outer layer is a dark red texture with varying amounts of transparency, and the inner glow is just a solid glowing texture.
Now that I think of it, it may have something to do with being completely enclosed... make sure the bussard lenses are a little ways above the inside layer. The distance between layers may have been the cause.
-
CG: Well I made sure of this a while back, it's slightly outward of the outer layer, but not by much...
The settings I have are the Opacity at 100, and diffuse at 100.
Rog
-
You know, just as a test, try shifting the bussard lenses a little so that part of the inner layer is visible from the outside. I never could tell if that had a difference or not, but I noticed there is a small gap on the 1.0 that you can only see from directly above. You could also try moving the inner layer further in, to widen the gap between the layers.
-
I check the post nem sov again in nifskope and I see that the transparencies of the outer layer is different then usual. Not the standard transparency usually set in max. It's easier to explain for nifskope but I don't know about max.
In nifskope, transparencies are usually set at 237, or (1 - Src Alpha and, 2 - Inverted Src Alpha ) This post nem sov seems to be set as 31, or ( 1 - "nothing" and, 2 - One ) Just FYI, 1 is "Source Blend Mode" and 2 is "Destination Blend Mode". Again, i don't know how it's set up in max since I haven't tried it yet.
It's transparent alright, but I know it's a different kind of transparency. I've discovered a lot of different kind of tranparencies with nifskope and I don't know exactly how that works but all I know is, it does work. Some transparencies can see through normal textures like the ID Maps or do the reverse, they can also darken the model, brighten, invert the colors, look like it's cloaked...many different ways is safe to say. Some are affected by the Alpha Channels. I'm trying to map all these possibilities out but there are thousands of different combinations to try out.
Hopefully, this might ring a bell. :D
-

Ok, it's not exactly working, and i'm having a hard time trying to get this to work LOL. I shifted the bussard lenses outwards just a tiny bit and well, the animations working, it's just not exactly transparent...
-
Okay, I found a Nem Sov file from early 2003, which is after the Nem Sov came out, but before the CG, so the bussards probably worked at that point. Try making the material settings for the bussard animation material match this, and see what happens. I would do it myself, but I don't have Max3 installed right now, not to mention BC. :P
I think what may do it is the advanced transparency options, especially the option to make the transparency additive; but the changes to the alpha properties in the opacity channel settings may need to be there as well.
Btw, ignore the filename in the texture channels, that's a very early version that didn't use the current bussard animation name.
-
Thanks am trying that now :)
It didn't work...And I'm using the model that you had given me :(. So the animations should work, I'm just not entirely sure what's going on! I'm about to give up on this one LOL
-
A klingon would slap you hard core for giving up.
As would I, in the typical back-handed fashion.
But since you're nowhere in physical sight, I will simply say that you've come this far. Look at my Mithra. The beast is an absolute MESS and I'm not gonna give up on her. I got Lint to help me. :D Point being, that you're in the right place to work on this sort of thing. There are tonns of people here willing to help, as is evident, and I have every confidence that this'll work out if you stay devoted to it. Just might take a lot of patience, and effort. but in the end, I am certain that you'll feel SO much better to finish this the right way, than just simply giving up. Again, you've come THIS far. For the sake of all of us who've been looking forward to this... don't give up. Or I'll sick a klingon on you. Don't ask me how, I haven't figured that out yet. :)
-
Eh, just dip him in blood wine.
Seriously though, I can definitely understand why he's frustrated. If I remember right, it took me a good month or so of texture tweaking before the bussards actually worked.
I just reinstalled Max3 and BC today, so I hope to get some time to fiddle with the textures some tomorrow. I really want to know once and for all how the bussards ever worked the first time. :P
-
LOL CG If you ever do, let me know how you did it, because this is gettin to me :S.
Now on the Max version of your 1.0 you have the bussard animation set in the "Self Illumination" channel. Whether that makes a difference I don't know, I'll check though :)
Roger W.
-
Qapla'! I figured it out! I had the red2_glow texture set as opaque....when I should have had it image/alpha :). ANIMATION'S WORKING PROPERLY NOW :D
EDIT: D'OH!!!!!! Ok, I change one little itty bitty thing, and it stopped glowing properly LOL. I'm gonna fiddle around with it still :)
EDIT 2: I had to import the Nemesis Sovereign .nif file, save the bussards in .3ds, merge it with the max 3.1 .max file, move it a bit, and then assign the material....but it works now :D Take a look!
BTW I'm not done with the model *angel*
-
Nice. :D
Could you post all your material settings that you used? Some time in the near future, I want to try and make something that doesn't involve importing the original working bussards.
-
Yes, PLEASE post as much info as you can about that... I may be a beginner, but I REALLY want to make animated bussards for the Mithra.
Please and thanks.
-Aeries.
-
They should be the same as your settings CG....
-
Good news...
Skinning and damaging tool works on this ship, now question is. Does everyone want me to texture in the raised detail on the ventral Saucer? or model it on? (how I'd go about doing that I have no clue...) If I texture it in, i'm gonna have to update the registries to make it look as though it's over the raised detailing :). As far as the extra spotlight on the nacelle pennant I haven't gotten around to putting that in yet. And I still need to modify the ID texture to support that damned window area LOL. I'll keep you guys updated :D.
Oh...and one more thing. This won't overwrite CG's 1.0 or CR's CG Sovereign Pack...But if anyone STILL plays the single player, would you like for me to overwrite that?
Roger W.
-
hhmm. Perhabs it's better to make an overwriting and a non-overwriting version. (just a thought)
-
Yes, please.
Would save the headache of having 8457987264756 different types of sovereigns in the game... :)

I would say it probably would be better modeled on but that is just me
-
Well to be quite honest? A lot of people really like CG's 1.0, I really am not sure I wanna overwrite all of that....but...how about this, I create an extra's folder so that you can overwrite it :).
Roger
-
Hmm.. well, assuming you use simple 5 sided blocks for those saucer details, you're looking at a few hundred faces extra. Not terrible considering the original model's polycount.
Just personally though, I'd be more concerned with reworking the phaser strips a little.. the ones on the original model are really simple, and I think they're actually less round than the saucer. Replacing them with a more rounded trapezoid shaped strip would look great. :)
-
Yeah, I'm considering using a tutorial Cpt. Hooker wrote on Phaser Strips :)
-
Hey CG, if you still have MSN, when would be the best time to catcha?
-
Yeah, I'm considering using a tutorial Cpt. Hooker wrote on Phaser Strips :)
Phaser strips? What? Where might I find this...? :D
-Aeries.
Edit: Nevermind, already got it. >_<
-
why not just take the Phaser strips off the CG1.0 minus the nacelled pylon phasers...a little modifying and I'm sure they would work..would they not?
-
The ones on the CG 1.0 are pretty high detail... As far as roundness goes, they actually have more segments than the outer edge of the saucer. They were originally lower detail, but several of the polygon joints stuck out in a few places, and I just chamfered the entire set so it would look even, rather than rebuilding them to be more efficient.
That's been fixed on my latest version, but I think the high detail ones might seem out of place on this model. Not overly so, but they will boost the polycount by a good amount if used.
You're welcome to do it if you want, but if you want extra practice modeling, making new phasers would be good for that. They're pretty quick and painless to do, but they use skills that are pretty universal in 3DS Max. ;)
-
If you make your own phasers, you're several steps ahead of me. Lol.
-
Hey folks, just wanted to say that I've begun work on the lower saucer. I'm not entirely sure I wanna work on the phaser strips until I have better experience with Max. But I'll keep you guys updated :)
-
Changed the color of the windows...honestly? They were too blue to me. I HAVE NOT touched the ID windows yet, but intend to soon as well as create a new spotlight glow for each side (erm, if I'm gonna retexture the thing I need to redo those windows on the lower saucer....)
PIC!!!!!!!!! Tell me what you think
-
hey i really like that! :D
-
Coming along beautifully
-
very nice work man, she shaping up nicely!
Have a cookie for your efforts :D
-
Hey CG, got a quick question. About a year or so ago you posted a registry preview showing several different ships for the ID texture. Do you think I could borrow the file to cut and paste registries (I actually wanna use it as a guide to line up my own numbers) I plan on making my registrys the way Scotchy did with his Galaxy :). Any help would be appreciated :D.
Rog
-
Looks great. I think after you're done there isn't much to aprove about the sov anymore. It has reached it's limit in available detail.
-
Looks great. I think after you're done there isn't much to aprove about the sov anymore. It has reached it's limit in available detail.
Oh come now, I'm sure someone will think of something.
Nevertheless, for the time being, you're right. The detail is amazing. :D
-
Lol.. you haven't seen my 2.0 with textures yet. (neither have I though, they're not mapped) :D
I'll see if I can find that texture, but I do remember one interesting bit about making it. If I remember right, the USS Sovereign had two 1's in it's reg number.. as long as you keep two 1's in whatever registry you make, you can use the Sovereign as a pattern, and the NCC and last digit will always be in the same spot. The Enterprise is a little tougher, because of the dash and extra letter, which aren't the same size as a single character, and push the registry sideways a little.
Eh, the Sovereign dish is just not made for easy registry making. :P
-
I once took the blank cg sov texture and then made a PSD of it which allowed for doing multiple registries. If your interested I may still have it.
-
Well all I really need is the curved registries on the saucer to line up the ship numbers :). I plan on making the ships that are named in Page five.
And Jay, two reasons I'm doing this mod. One is the fact that the original textures didn't have much detail, I'm redoing this with the thought that I can make it slightly more accurate, and also, we don't have a PROPER First contact Sovereign.
-
Okay I found the file cleaned out some unecessary junk (alot of registries I did for other personal projects) and saved it again; Unfortunately It may just be a bit big to upload directly to here (it wasnt taking the file for whatever reason), but that never stopped me before so I just uploaded it to filefront
http://files.filefront.com/Sovereign+ID+Templatezip/;9810731;/fileinfo.html (http://files.filefront.com/Sovereign+ID+Templatezip/;9810731;/fileinfo.html)
hope this helps you
-
Lol.. well, my files wouldn't help you much I think, so I hope that one works. I literally placed those registries on the original by hand, character by character. Took a little while, but it worked.
This next time around, I think I'll be making the textures in Max to start with.
-
I tend to draw them around a curves line. Works like a miracle. One by one sounds.. tedious. :P
-
In photoshop, aligning text to path with curved registries works wonders. No more stretched registries, and it's perfect every time!
-
Ok, I'll give it a try :)
EDIT: WORKED :) I'm making the registries now :arms:

How do you do that?
-
Ditto. Been wanting a step by step on how to set up text paths in CS2.
-
I'll make a tutorial. :D
-
 Wiley, you'll be my HERO!!!!! :D
-
Ok, not much updates lately due to another project I was working on (Tricorder Graphics for a Voyager Tricorder :D) I'm about to go to bed, but I would like to say that I'm working on getting the named ships on page 5 in game before I do more work on the textures. no pictures, but that's because I haven't fixed the windows yet LOL. I will when I have more time (there are a LOT of windows on the registry ID Thingy oy....)
-
Here are the specs for the original configuration Sovereign Class(pre-Nemesis Refit). I made the Unit Run more appropiate for the first few ships. The previous specs I put were for the Nemesis Refit Sovereign Class
First Contact Sovereign Details
-12 Type XII Phaser Arrays
-1 Quantum Torpedo Turret
-4 Photon Torpedo Tubes
-Regenerative Shields
-Ablative Armor
-Normal Cruise: 8
-Maximum Cruise: 9.9
-Maximum Rated: 9.99
Unit Run(more appropriate for an original configuration Sovereign Class)
USS Sovereign NCC-73811(or NX-73811; Whichever one you decide to use
USS Musashi NCC-73832
USS Republic NCC-73856
USS Enterprise NCC-1701-E
USS Davis NCC-73977
USS Atlanta NCC-74250
-
*sighs* I will also be including the PSD ID_glow file. The named ships on page five are my final ships to be included in the pack. No offense to anyone, but do to my time restraint of two years, which by then I should have COMPLETED Community College, and finished the main textures, and on top of the fact I do have a life outside of BC, work bills whatnot, I cannot take request as to what ships SHOULD be in the pack.
USS Republic
USS Nimitz
USS Kyoto (not to overwrite any Intrepid class pack)
USS Enterprise
USS Sovereign
USS Vigilant
USS Columbia
Like CG's 2.0 will consist of.
I'm sorry for any inconvenience this causes, but you guys are welcome to make new packs as long as you credit my work as well as CG's :)
-
Idea. Make blank registries and people can make their own darn ship names. :P
-
duh, I already HAVE a blank registry :P. but it'd be much easier with a PSD file with the text that lines up ;)
-
I've not updated this in a while. But there really isn't anything to update you on. Life for me has gotten a bit boring lol. I kinda have no motivation right now to do anything with this, as I've been trying to find myself and find answers to my lifes questions if you guys know what I mean. I will get this baby back on the road soon :) and I mean really soon, as I'm starting to get those answers. On a good note, I am motivated to create avatars as you guys can see :). If anyone wants one, y'all can contact me. But back on the subject, the last thing I've done with the model itself is I've started modeling more detail on the lower saucer section. I'll be working more on that when I get the vigor to do so and then the Model will be complete. I'll also be working on the Windows on the ID map. Ligthen them up and using similar blending properties that Scotchy did with his Galaxy. Then it's on to putting the windows on the top Saucer and then working more on the secondary hull. Afterwards I plan on finishing the Nacelle textures and then work on the bottom saucer :)
-
Good luck with this, maybe a good First Contact Sovvie will motivate CG to finish his 2.0 sometime before the 24th century.
-
hehe, We all know CG too well LOL. Nah, He'll do it in his own time :). But I want to get this done in a two year period. Get everythign I need out of the way etc.
-
Lol... I resemble your remarks
I know the feeling, I wish I could do this kind of stuff full time. Unfortunately, life usually has other plans.
If it ever gets too bad, I'll just release the completed parts and let you all fool with them. Personally, I'm kinda glad I've waited this long, since it gave a chance for computers to catch up. Now I can unleash the full 20k polygon fury without too many reservations. LOL (I'm still planning to rework the old one too a little, don't worry ;) )
-
Hehe, I don't know if it would handle my computers as they're still old, and I'm still poor :P lol.
Roger W.

CG. Bring it on. :arms:

Work has rebegan on this baby LOL. So far I've added the Captain's Quarters Winders (yes winders, I'm southern US dadgummit!!!) but I'm worried about the meticulous accuracy of the portholes...where they're supposed to go and everything...and I pray I get it right LOL.
Pictures to come soon :). LATERZ TATERZ!

You seem to be in an amazingly good mood. Lol. Good, good... perhaps we will, both, have updates on our projects to make people scream and cry in joy? :P looking forward to yer' shizzle, homie. xP
-
Work has rebegan on this project.? I've been toying with the mapping on the Saucer a bit.? well my ID map that is.? I had problems with the spotlight on the bottom of the saucer, so I just moved the set of portholes and now I'm working on the ID texture a bit so that I can fit the registries and so that it'll fit in with the map.? Pictures to come shortly :)
EDIT: OH I forgot to tell you guys...there is a side project when I'm sick and tired of working on this *angel*.? I'm working on putting phaser banks on a certain Steamrunner and retexturing her :).? Reddragon's since all I have to do is give credit ;).? If anyone can give me any decent reference pictures PM me or email me ;).? I may end up giving her an ID map too :S
EDIT: I said my new map, because I'm changing the original CG Sovereign ID map a bit to include spotlights on the inside of the nacelles.
-
Well I'm having a bit of trouble mapping, so I'm gonna have to change the ID textures again lol. But not that much :), just the area on the bottom saucer where the registry is supposed to be :). I haven't had much time to work on this because I'm looking for a job again...Didn't like being a car salesman :P.
-
Yay, this project is still on! Have fun looking for a new job.
-
Excellent news that this is continuing. Best wishes searching for a new job. If I can find jobs, you sure as hell can. Good luck.
-
Well, it's temporarily on hold for the moment till I can get an electrician in the house to fix both my living room and computer room so that i can have my PC back LOL. That won't be long, but I think I've fixed the problem with the spotlights etc. I'm now working on adding new portholes to the ID texture, and will continue to work on the model a bit adding a few things but not upping the polycount too much. This has been a fun experience...but I've also been going back and forth with both this and my Steamrunner retexture (Red Dragon's, I plan on modeling phasers on her and putting an ID Map on her though that may take a bit of time LOL) Anyways, When I get back on the main PC I'll have photos available :D.
-
Wells...I am temporarily back on the PC thanks to a quick transfer of auxilary power from the kitchen (I used a 50 food extension chord and just ran it around to the computer room, and plugged the puter in :D. LOL thank heavens for those multioutlet thingies too...)
So when full power is restored, I plan on getting this sunofagun back into action fully :). And I maybe a pharmacy technician soon...:D
In the meantime, I want you to enjoy the pictures I have of the Steamrunner ;). I haven't gotten the body and nacelle pylons a texture yet, but the entire hull will be in the same color code as the hull of CG's Sovereign...
I'll have pics of the FC Sovereign up tomorrow...gotta go out now :D
-
Full Power restored to the computer core, will work on this soon :)
-
Great news! That Steamrunner looks gr8 so far!
-
Thanks, I am considering doing a FC Pack, with the exception of the Akira...I have Red Dragon's Norway, the Sabre I still haven't heard back from Queball, but other than that, These two are all that are on my list for the time being, and I may release the Sovereign Pack (Since I already have an HP P$YCHO made for me a while back) before I do the FC Pack :). Now if I can learn MPE and get the Steamrunner HP'ed...
Roger
-
UPDATE: been pretty busy getting my life together and whatnot, so I haven't really had much time to work on the Sovereign or the Steamrunner. I'm adding phasers to the Steamrunner, and I've started working on the windows on the Saucer of the Sovereign. Other than that things are slow, I'm still pushing for another year and a half of work on this :).
-
I'll be posting screenies shortly of this beauty, she's turning out quite well. Windows are a real pain in the arse to get right...
Would anyone here like to help me make a First Contact ship pack? How many people would LIKE a FC Ship pack? I'm going to start a poll :)
-
I'd like FC ship pack :D
tho dunno how much of help I could be I'm only good at retexturing, beginner at ms3d mapping and kitbashing, tutorial stage in modelling, advanced in BC ships HP,plugins etc. scripting (still can't figure out how to make sound autoload plugins :D )
-
I don't need an HP for the Sovereign, but I could use a HP'er for the other ships ;). If you're up to the challenge, would you like to help Bones? I'm planning on retexturing RD's Steamrunner, Norway, and I might go with his Sabre since I have not heard anything from Queball about using his Sabre. I plan on making most of these ships SDT Ready.
-
Would anyone here like to help me make a First Contact ship pack?
If only I had time for a project like that... I would normally LOVE to. Unfortunately I've already fallen behind with the Avenger... I promised Luke renders for it, but never got to it. Grawr. x.x; Oh well. All I can really do is model, anyways... at like... 4563407603948645609873456 polies. xD
How many people would LIKE a FC Ship pack? I'm going to start a poll :)
ME! ME! MEMEMEMEMEMEMEME!!!
-
lol that's four so far who'd love an FC pack :P. If there's a lot more who want it, I will definitely change the subject to FC Pack 1.0 ;).
Roger
-
I would like it to be a pack, and if you need help, I'm willing to help hp the ships.
-

sounds like good fun :D I can take care of steamrunner and norway, sabre by Queball looks awesomely good for my taste :D also I could help with HP so count me in :D
-
I'll agree with that one Bones, but I'm trying to texture the sabre to the color codes I'm using with the Sovereign, same with the Steamrunner and the norway :). But yeah, that'd be great!
I think with this progressing to be a ship pack, it should have the cannon torpedoes from First Contact. They were a bit yellowish weren't they? And they did have the flares (unlike CG's Torps, no offense :) I do love those torpedoes, but they're strictly Nemesis, I don't recall them in Insurrection)
-
Are you talking about the quantums or the regular photons?
-
Photons, Quantums are ace as far as accuracy for FC :). P$YCHO made the hardpoints for 1.0 of the Hawkeye Sovereign Pack. While this is an overhaul to the model (Adding ID maps and such), I've retextured most of the ship, I'm still using the HP that he supplied for the Hawkeye Pack, minus a few torpedo launchers (mostly the bridge and a couple on the back). But I'm planning on using a different Photon instead of the one supplied for CG's 1.0
-
I agree with that. Good choices, I look forward to this pack.
-
I think I have somwhere FC photons made by Zambie Zan and they look pretty canon to me they came with SNS Akira also they have FC photons sound tho it's not so perfect cuz it's cut badly in the end probably cuz there was too much background noise
-
I'll check into that :)
By the way, for those of you who are voting, I'd like to know why you like or why you don't like the idea of an FC pack, curiosity kills the cats more often than not, I'm not trying to upset anyone :).
Roger
-
Well, I've put some more work into the Sovereign, and I plan on testing the topmap texture ingame tonight and post pictures in the morning :D
Roger
-
I love the idea of a First Contact Pack. You can never have too many First Contact ships, especially considering there is no canon FC Sovereign available currently. In my opinion the FC Sovereign is much better looking and sleeker than the Nemesis Sovereign. For some reason, the nacelles were moved forward and upwards slightly and it ruins the profile of the ship. And some of those extra torpedo launchers just don't make any sense location-wise. The dual launcher above the main entranceway just doesn't look right. How can there be a torpedo launcher there when there is absolutely no space for the length of the launchers or their corresponding magazine? This same problem applies to the single launchers above and below the aft shuttlebay.
-
Bleh! I like it either way.
-
As promised a photo of at least a dozen windows that I've drawn up so far, and I've added detail around the Phaser banks and escape pods...
-
I've been working on the Nacelles a little, I'm going to add the spotlight soon as well, and finish it off sometime next week :). Right now it's bedtime for this boy :P
-

A well deserved rest, no doubt. :)
-
Looking rly good mate ;) its good to see you've choose canon outer rim details (dark grey armor and light grey aztecs)
-
Will this include the Millenium Falcon?
-
Will this include the Millenium Falcon?
For a moment I thought you were being off topic but then remebered the little "spoof" in FC. Probably not though as I'm guessing we're going for canon in this pack.
-
No,
Ultimately I want to include the Norway, Sovereign, Steamrunner, and Sabre class (Scotchy did a hell of ajob on the Akira). If Queball gives me permission to use his sabre (no jokes please) I'll go with that as it's a fairly good model and easily maliable to use SDT...the others are proving difficult with the exception of the Sovvy
-
Eclipse, you've got one more vote for a pack from me.
I'll check into that :)
By the way, for those of you who are voting, I'd like to know why you like or why you don't like the idea of an FC pack, curiosity kills the cats more often than not, I'm not trying to upset anyone :).
Roger
The more, the merrier, right?
The only bad thing that could possibly happen if we have too many ships in our installs is not being able to find them in the menus...
-
Which is why I'm considering making a new ship menu called "First Contact Pack" :) would save a lot of trouble
-
Which is why I'm considering making a new ship menu called "First Contact Pack" :) would save a lot of trouble
Maybe submenus for the different races, that would work better with galaxy charts, also, I have so many ship menus that they are getting hard to find, too. (of course I added about 5 of them)
but Submenus would be excellent...maybe I'll do a huge submenu classification thingy in my free time.
-
I'm taking a couple more votes then locking the poll. From the looks of it, a FC pack is gonna be born...hopefully this won't take too long lol.
Roger
-
Ok, so I've remapped the top rear of the nacelles...so that I could add a fake "raised" detail where the actual blinkies will go. I have to say it doesn't look too awfully bad. I haven't had much time to get a screenie lately, but I will sometime soon :). BTW, I'm taking more votes since not everyone got to vote....but it seriously looks like this will be a FC Pack. I'm currently working on a banner too for this one :D
Roger
-
Question: Will you be using blinkers or modeled in lights?
-
Nano blinkers....I'm not that advanced in modeling yet...I'd like to be however...
-
Good, I was hoping you'd use Nano blinkers.
-
Will the ships be proper size unlike how they currently are with KM(ie Steamrunner = same size as Galaxy...like lolwut)?
-
They should be...
-
I'm working on the Nacelles and the ID texture, so far I've gotten the USS Columbia ingame :). Will post pictures soon! I'm still working hard on getting the Sovvy done, but in my spare time that i'm tired of working on that, I am also working on the Steamrunner. If anyone wants to help with the texturing, let me know :) It would make the process go much faster :D
-
As soon as I have some issues with my new HDD sorted out I'll start retexturing Norway and maybe even Sabre (mainly unify color schemes especially hull and windows as well as refreshing textures to make them clean and up to date) I'm running on backup 40GB HDD with only Win XP + Firefox installed ;)
-
Great to hear. Though I have to warn you I want 1024x1024 as I'd like to keep them where everyone including low-end systems can play them :). We have excellent Borg ships too so I'm not gonna worry with those.
-

kewl idea, mods for everyone!
-
That cookie I gave you was long overdue, Eclipse. I hope it isn't too stale. Great job so far
-
Thanks. As of right now I'm saving everything to CD...and then I'm going to have to reformat my hard drive and reinstall everything including photoshop. I could work on this with my laptop, but I would hate to resort to it. Later guys!
Roger W.
-
Dang, wont be able to see this ship for a while then.
-
it's only gonna take a day or so to get everything settled ;)
-
We've waited this long. No rush.
-
Everything is in order and I can get back to work on this baby :D. I need to get some pictures up when I get home, right now is computer lab, and then Math
-
Edited the name of the topic :) What do you think of the name Smitherine productions?
-
Sounds too much like the Simpsons character lol, I would go with Eclipse Facilities. :P
-
I would go with Eclipse Facilities. :P
Nice.
-

It's a play on my last name lol
-
I'm posting pictures if I don't forget for the fiftieth time when I get home :D
EDIT: Bones, do you want me to send you the raw mesh's? Or what? Mind you they won't have phasers on the Norway lol.
-
As promised some piccies :D
As you can see I've worked on the ID texture to make it fit a bit on the lower saucer :)
And forgive the small escape pod on the secondary hull, it's how the texture runs....
-
I am still very much looking forward to this. Well done so far.
-
that's hot. 8)
-
I agree it looks real nice. good job so far.
-
Looking great!!
-
Two more pictures showing more progress...I still haven't put the spotlights on the nacelles near the pennant. That'll come with time though :D
-
Uhm... is something up with those phaser arrays? They look odd to me. Unlike Dj's Century, those phaser arrays look way off... Hmm...
Edit: talking model-wise, I mean... they look like triangles :S
-
You'll have to talk to CG about this, this isn't my model :P I'd like to learn how though ;)
-

Ask and I may teach... ;)
-
Sure why not :). MSN me
-
Not knocking your retextureing abilities Eclipse..but I said from the very beginning that those phasers looked way off..I simply figured you would steal the phasers off of the CGSov as the shape of the models is quite similar...
-
Well it is still a work in progress :P
However I just tried the CG Sovereign phasers on this and it didn't fit all too well. So I hope Aeries gets my PM And he can help me with my modeling capabilities :P
-

Got it and added. I'll do my best to help you, but I'm busy with school, work, likely studying for my GED, being extremely ill AND looking for a second job all at the same time. x_x; When I say I'm doing my best to keep up with everyone, and my own projects, I mean it. Lol. Hit me up sometime.
-
LOL I understand what you're goin through Aeries, I'm busy myself working and going to school. MAN I love College :P
-
I haven't given myself much time for the last couple of days, me and my girlfriend have been having problems as of late and i just haven't felt up to working on this. However I'm feeling rejuvinated so I'm going to work on this as soon as I get home from School :D.
-
LOL I understand what you're goin through Aeries, I'm busy myself working and going to school. MAN I love College :P
Same with me :( working and going to school, I used to make a retexture in few days now it takes about a month...
-
No worries guys...
You both do outstanding work... and great work takes time.
Good luck with school. Believe me, I know. I teach a couple of college courses and it's pretty hard on the teachers too.
-
I'll be working on this today when I get home :)
-
If I were a puppy, I'd be sitting in front of the door waiting anxiously for your return, all day, with my tail gently wagging in anticipation. >:3 Woof.
Lookin' forward to more, buddy!

Aeries mate, I could totally twist that entire post into something awful, but I won't.
Nice looking textures guys! I really should talk with someone about giving me a few tips and pointers and all that.
-

Just too wrong lol.
Right now it's school then I'll be home till I go into work :S
-
:arms: That was my intention, smart ones... haha, kidding. Well, half kidding... I think? Bleh. Anyways... think I'll work on the Mithra, too, later today... after dying my hair pink!! xD
hey, Eclipse, you feel like teaching me to texture? xD I'm a clueless poop-for-brains.
-
Dye it purple, it'll wash out into pink in a few days, not that I'm speaking from experience or anything... :v:
Hooray! More to look forward to!
-
Ok, getting back to the subject at hand, I've been working on the Nacelle Pylons but it's turning out...bad lol. I'm going to redo it when I get home :). Then I might work on the steamrunner for a bit. I'm still modeling phasers on her.
-
Nacelles are about 80% complete :D. I've also begun work on the bottom of the saucer of the Sovvy
-
Sweet, can't wait to see it complete.
-
I haven't had much to update. Life has been pretty depressing for me. Bones if you're still interested in texturing the Norway and the Sabre, let me know :) I'll send you the Norway as soon as I can. I'm gonna work on the Steamrunner when I get home from work, so be on the lookout for more updates
-

Sorry to hear things arent going well for ya. I'm in the same boat, in my own ways. Hence, the lack of anything from me lately. Just keep your chin up buddy, and take your time. We're a patient people, here. :]

Same here I barely make any progress on my projects but I'll see what can be done tho now to quote Khan : "Time is the luxury you don't have..." (or something like that :D ) in my case that's perfectly true :(

I've been working on this, and a decal sheet for my AMT/Ertl Enterprise E LOL. So work has been going slowly on this :) But it's getting there. Next thing on my list is trying to cut the aztecing off the edges of the Saucer of the Sovereign and put in a line for the sensor strip :). That's gonna be a hard one lol. Steamrunner is on hold till I properly learn how to model phasers, which requires me to block a number of people on MSN so I can talk with Aeries :P (namely my ex and her crew)
-

AWWWW! :3

Eeewwww....
-
guys please keep this thread spam-free...
thx :)
-
Sorry Jimmy, at least it's my own thread instead of someone elses. I really don't mind the spam, but for you buddy, I'll keep it clean :D.
I haven't had a chance to get on MSN, as it's acting up on me, so Aeries I hope I can talk with ya soon about modeling phasers for all the ships (Norway, Sovereign, and Steamrunner)
-
I really don't mind the spam, but for you buddy, I'll keep it clean :D.
much obliged - however, i would ask that about any thread that is not in the FreePost forum lol ;)
if someone didnt jump in to "intervene", it would become too common-place where threads all start to drift very offtopic and pages would go by where the topic becomes less than remotely about the original purpose of the thread :P
-
Well, as of next month I'm going to be moving, I hate this crap. So what i'm trying to do is save everything to CD so I can work on this with my (ugh) laptop. I may eventually buy a wireless mouse for it and do what I can with the models. Right now I'm modeling on the bottom saucer details that need to be there which will add about a few hundred more poly's to the entire mesh, if I can get on MSN Aeries is gonna help me with phasers for the sovereign steamrunner and norway. I'm taking artistic liscensing for the Steamrunner and Norway as I can't get any good references to the phasers on the bottom of the saucer.

Just gimme a holler when you can, or even just PM/email me. Due to a PM I just got, though, I will be even busier than normal [is this possible? :S] with another project [which makes... what? four in total now?]. I will, however, do my absolute best to try to help you out. Best luck buddy.

Sorry for the lack of updates, I just haven't really been motivated to do anything with this the last couple of days :(.
-
I know how you feel. a few days ago, I felt the same way, of course, then, I had nothing to do, so no one really cared. Instead of trying to do what I was too upset to do, I decided instead to write music, and stand and wait.
"'They also serve, those who only stand and wait' -John Milton"
-Miguel Diaz, quoting Milton in BC single player (hehehe, couldn't wait to quote someone quoting someone else...maybe that line from Milton quoted someone before him?)
anyway, to return to the topic again, you're not alone. we all know how you're feeling, having been there at one time or another. have fun with your project, Eclipse, have fun finding a motivation.
-
I may end up using my laptop for this. I'm having a hard time placing the windows on the Saucer of the Sovereign. I'm doing the best I can, but the rotations just don't seem to fit right. Anyone have any good tips?
-
Jeez I didn't think texturing the portholes for the secondary hull would be tedious...I'm having to redo them over and over to get the proper spacing lol. But the sovvy is still in works...I'm alternating between Steamrunner and Sovereign when I have the time to do this. I might push the release date further than the two year mark to account for everyday life things :S. That is unless I get a few people involved in helping me with texturing and hardpointing. Bones you still in for texturing the Norway?
-
UPDATE: I've gotten a few portholes worked out on the secondary hull, they should be correctly sized, and I'm working on getting those finished, I should have them done by late this evening :) Here's a starter photo :D
-
Keep up the good work and remember art can't be rushed
-
Thanks for the compliment :)
Here's another progress pic. I'm done for now LOL
-
Is it me or is the secondary hull too thin in that last picture? The saucer looks too bulky compared to it.
-
It might be, considering this is CG's model, and he did say something to that effect a while back. While I wish I could, I can't fix this because my skills at modeling are limited, I'm still in the process of learning how to model. About the only thing I did was make ID maps on the saucer nacelle and secondary hull.
EDIT: Here's a side view of the ship, if anyone wants to help me fix that (if being the case of the sec hull being bony), I'd be happy to hear advice.
-
So, I was fiddling around with this today, and I noticed that now I'm having a slight issue with the Speculars.
In essence, when I have them on, the glows on the ID glow are brighter than the rest of the ship.
To answer some questions that I know will be raised.
Yes, I checked the specular map, and no there is no alpha.
I'm not sure whether it's the plugin or not.
-
try dimming the Alpha on the ID glow texture
-
I'll give it a try, but it only happens when I have the specular highlights turned on. It's normal when they're off.
-
NanoFX known error. Hence the "Bright Glow" fix.
-
but why just the ID? shouldn't that apply to all alpha maps?
Here's a shot to let you know what I'm talking about
It just started this when I made the ship plugin file...
-
Looks...ok to me. Side by side of on/off would be more helpful.
-
Comparison in last post Kirk, hope that helps some :)
-
Yeah, everything gets brighter. Look at this.
-
Nacelles and the ID, but look at the front of the ship in both pictures, they're the same brightness pretty much. as well as the bridge area. I'm really starting to think it's this piece of crap computer...I'm going to try my laptop and see if I get the same results.
-
New problem...at least for my laptop LOL I got to figure out which scripts I'm missing on this thing *mutter mutter* It's crashing to desktop LOL
-
It is my computer, because I definitely cannot reproduce that glow bug on me laptop :D
-
actualy its a faulty specular map... when u make a specular map u should make all the windows PURE blak.. this isnt really a bug when a lightsource shines on a surface iot makes it brighter thats the whole idea of specular maps when u make something shine when its already illuminated it makes it go over the top this can EASELY be fixed with some PROPER spec maps x]
-
If that was the case, the same issue should have been occurring on his laptop.
-
If that was the case, the same issue should have been occurring on his laptop.
Yep, it would be the case lol. But yeah all my windows ARE blacked out :). I've even blacked out the windows for the CG Sovereign (Which reminds me CG, if you come back and read this? Make sure you put some windows in on your secondary hull of the next release ;), It was very tedious job making them from scratch.)
More updates to come, right now I'm working on making the registries so I can get those done and completed. I may re-edit the alpha channels for a more CG feel to it :S
-
If you want to tell if your specs are working properly, DJ's Century and Galaxy have great ones. Go to the Artrus or Kronos system and if whenever there is a Sun nearby onscreen, the hull should light up with individual plating.
All in all, bring on the lovely registries! I think a few should vary inbetween the late 70,000's and early 80,000 thousands. But it's your choice, I am just offering an idea.
-
lol I'm using CG's names that he came up with for my pack :). There are quite a few 70,000 and a few 80,000's believe me :D
And I just use Deep Space to check my spec's...
-
It's not perfect that system. It is good but I find the darker the ship (which the Artrus and Kronos systems can do v. well), the better the specs come up. Just my advice.
-
I don't think I have those on my install yet. But will check them out when I have time :D.
-
Ok,, I have the registries done for now (until I edit the Alpha Maps, which will be simple :D) they go in this order
U.S.S. Columbia NCC-81712
U.S.S. Enterprise (of course) NCC-1701-E
U.S.S. Independence NCC-80346
U.S.S. Kyoto (will NOT overwrite the Kyoto in BR32 and El's Intrepid pack) NCC-81531
U.S.S. Nimitz NCC-81014
U.S.S. Republic NCC-79117
U.S.S. Sovereign (you guys know the registry on that one :P)
U.S.S. Vigilant NCC-78151
Hope this satisfies your taste for a ship pack with more realistic names :P
-
What kind of shuttles will the Sovs be carrying?
-
I imagine that Type 11's would be the "Correctamundo" answer. Anything else is up to the creator.
-
I might go with the Type 11's and a couple of other shuttles. Type 9's as well. Are there any other decent type 9's out there?
-

will be soon. hopefully primes making one for the DQP. & if not, theres the one from the CGI Voy pack.

LOL Thanks JB :D that has to be a record for posting :S

Work is back on with this baby.? I need a better Steamrunner though than Reddragons...it's not completely accurate, and I'm having a hard time texturing her correctly.? I'm considering the P81/C2 model, but need the TGA texture files instead of the NIF's.? Can anyone help with this?? I don't have milkshape anymore lol
-
Odd. Do you have the Steamrunner from KM 1.0? Cos the textures are tgas's there. I redid the P81/C2 one for KM-R.

Oops...I had forgotten about that  Thanks to me for embarrassing myself LOL and thanks to you for pointing that out :)
-
Can anyone help me with mesh errors? I'll be on MSN later today (I'm in the library skipping class :D). I really want to get the Steamrunner up and running, and get it ready for SDT as well (Wow y'know? Ship packs!) And I kinda need help with ship names other than the Appalachia (which i'm close to those mountains...GO NC!!!) I'm going to have to research sometime today :).
In other news i've worked very slowly on the Sovereign...i'm trying to add material to the mesh (bottom of the saucer most notibly) and plan on boolean that together once finished.
All that I need now is the Norway and Sabre class (I still haven't heard from QBall about using his for this pack)
-
For Steamrunner names, maybe:
Canon Ships:
Steamrunner (:P I mean everything other ship has had its class name stuck on (USS Intrepid, Intrepid Class; USS Galaxy, Galaxy Class))
Other:
Copernicus
Rotarran (yes I know, its a Klingon ship, but it could be like a ship of honour :D)
Ascendant
Mesozoic
Aztec
-
Well it'd be a given there would be a USS Steamrunner :P.? I'm not too fond of Rotarran, though thanks for that suggestion!
EDIT:? I've fixed the mesh errors on the C2 Steamrunner :D.? Thank you NIFTools!!!!!
EDIT2: Can anyone help me with the C2 Norway? Those textures are still in NIF Format...and well, I don't have milkshape :P
-
http://starfleetcommand3.filefront.com/file/Norway_class;25657
since C2 used p81 mods and textures Mostly I belive that should have the original textures and lightmaps
-
Firing cookie torpedoes!
Thanks, i'll check it out.

Hiroshima is another canon Steamrunner.
Canon names for the other three ships:
[Akira]Other than Akira and Thunderchild
Rabin NCC-63293
Spector
[Saber]Other than Saber and Yeager
none that I could find
[Norway]Other than Norway and Budapest
none that I could find
So thats, four Akiras, three Steamrunners, two Sabers and two Norways that have names(that I could find so far).
-
You guys are on the right track with Bright Glows. The problem is the Specular Maps have a white Alpha Channel, they should be black to prevent this bug.
The bug doesn't show up UNTIL the ship has been hit and NanoFX triggers the Light Flickering (Turning Alpha's on and off to produce the FX)...... so I assume his Laptop has a different config than his PC (Specs off, different NanoFX Settings) causing different results.
You can do one of 3 things to fix this issue....
1. Fix your Specular Maps with a Black Alpha Channel (best solution)
2. Turn off Light Flickering in NanoFX config (no flickering will occur on ship hits or Ship Exploding)
3. Turn on Bright Glow Fix in NanoFX config (this basically turns off Specular Highlights once a Light Flicker occurs)
Now you guys know the issue and the fixes...... spread the word!

you wont find any other Norway names, apparently the CGI model was corrupted after First Contact and never rebuilt

LOL I know this Nano, trust me, it's just my crappy PC (worse than Jimmy's I think).? I need a new one.? Glows work excellent on my laptop however.? And NanoFX is installed on both computers :). And customized the same way...I just have the bright glow bug fix turned off :P
But I do appreciate your help!? Cookies for that!

Ok, I've started working on the Steamrunner, at least modeling wise trying to add phasers (YAY BOOLEAN!) I'm gonna have a hard time with this one...as far as getting them (the phasers) pretty much the same size. I've already added ID glows but the damned original file needs to be updated a bit *grumble grumble* As it's not exactly centered...Pics to come shortly :)
-
if you include the SCE in the Canon then you have USS DaVinchi (Saber Class)
-
Yeah, but for now I'm gonna worry about the Steamrunner and the Norway :).? They need modeled phasers...badly lol
EDIT: And I'm gonna have to redo the phasers...I'm going to try the tutorial Cpt. Hooker made a while back again, I just couldn't get it right the first fifty times around :( Maybe luck will be with me this time :)
-
Well phasers are coming along....slowly :S. Damned things are pretty hard to make. Then there's the fact that I'll need to re-boolean everything once I'm finished making the phasers and weld everything together :S.
-
You could just colour the bits on the spec's black and see what happens.
@ eclipse. good work! I hope you get the phasers finished right :D.
-
You know, I would love to bribe the person that knows how to add a black alpha channel to my specular maps...perhaps it is because I greyscale them before I use the equalize tool, but for some reason I cant save the TGA with an alpha channel.
What program are you using?
-
Ya Raven just use a tool that will do the job like even TGATool, you could edit the Alpha Channel to Black then reload the Alpha and save it. Done.
-
Yeah I know it's been about oh...over a year since I've even posted in this thread! But I'm going to redesign this entirely, I'm bored with the FC Pack, and want something to do. I'll be drawing up ideas in the near future (I need fresh ideas LOL) But this one is still gonna be streamlined and have an essence of Sovereign, Intrepid, Nova, and Prometheus as general ideas. She's still gonna have an "I'll kick your ass" look to her while at the same time look elegant doing so. Updates to follow soon.
-
"I'll elegantly kick your ass!"
Good luck dude. :]
-
LMAO, that's the spirit Aeries! I'm SO hoping i can pull this off with the limited knowledge I have of Max. LOL.
-
glad to see youre picking this back up! :)
altho perhaps it might be best to let this thread rest for now until you have something to post or update or report?
just to try and prevent a whole lot of offtopic-ish posts...
thx :)
-
I'll post an update in a few days Jimmy not to worry, I just didn't want to post this in the FC thread lol ;) if you'd like to lock it till I have an update that's fine too :). I'll let you know!
-
Just an update. Thanks to Limey's Phaser tutorial, I've started working on Phasers for the Steamrunner, Pictures to come soon :D
-
UPDATE Phasers are half finished, I'm considering putting a couple on the Nacelle pylons just so there's some phaser coverage at the rear...just a bit of artistic license. I may also model in the torpedo tubes! Pictures now...and yes I know there are some smoothing issues...I'm working on fixing those, I may need a bit of help though...
-
Looking good there ... really good
-
You've done such an unique and somewhat beautiful class proud.
We've never really had a good look at the Steamrunner so feel free to use artistic license!
-
Thats a very good Steamrunner model. Its certainly a welcome upgrade from the C2 Steamrunner. I just hope the textures and hardpoint will get the same treatment aswell.
-
WOW this Steamrunner model is really beautiful, finaly a Hi-Res version with no model errors, amazying work so far!
-
Uhm...Billz, this is the C2X Steamrunner, just added phasers and an ID map lol.? I'm not a great modeler by any means...retexturing has begun also.? And before anyone screams at me, credits are gonna be given (which I've already written the Read Me for this mod :S That's the first thing I did lol).? If I'm not mistaken all P81/C2X mods are free reign as long as they're properly credited. (If I'm wrong, let me know!)
I'll be updating this shortly.?? This is gonna have the same color scheme as the Sovereign (And the same will be done to the Norway, I'm also gonna update the C2X/P81 model with phaser arrays)...which reminds me, I'm gonna update the saucer texture a bit on the Sovvy...I've figured out how to get the Aztecing perfect! :D
-
Good work with those phasers, buddy! I knew you could pull it off! :D

I didn't even reconize it as the C2X/P81 model without its many mesh errors, lol.
Like I said, its a welcome update to the old Steamrunner model. I can't wait to see the end result.
That said, is the C2X/P81 Norway getting the same treatment?
-
It better had. The Norway could look more interesting and hopefully eclipse might just do that.

LOL It will and both will look awesome :D.? And the reason there aren't as many mesh errors is because I edited it in NIFSkope before I uploaded it to Max.? From there I just smoothed the ship out.? There are some smoothing errors, and I'm hoping to correct those soon :S.? As I said earlier, I might need help with it though.? Those ID maps are bothering me a bit looking a bit darker than the rest of the ship.? I want it to blend in a bit lol
EDIT: Does anyone know how to get in touch with Queball? I'd like to use his Sabre class for this mod, but I haven't gotten any replies back from him :S
-
Texturing started on the Steamrunner :) You can see I've added the Aztec Panneling on the ID map, transporter pads, and more with the textures, the top saucer is only about 30% finished. I plan on updating you guys soon :D
-
That slab of armour is new. :)
-
Nice. I really like the design of the Steamrunner, it's good to see a new face on it. :)
-
That slab of armour is new. :)
I'm going with the similar panelling and armour that the Sovereign Class uses :). She'll look awesome when finished :D
-

Any chance of alternate textures included without armour paneling?
It looks awesome but some people might not be partial to armour paneling.

Well, does anyone have any good references to the steamrunner?? Is the Armour not accurate?
Not trying to sound rude or anything, but yeah, I'm wanting this to be as accurate as possible. I mean it looks to have similar texture style as the Sovereign. I could be wrong!
-
It does have armour panelling, but from the limited views of it in First Contact, it wasn't that dark.
-
Then I guess I have no choice but to release two sets of textures then :P.? They'll be in the extras :)
The main textures will have the darker armour plating however, as I feel that they're more accurate and honestly look better :). They're also gonna look more like the Sovereign class' armour than they already are :D.
-
yeah, and from what I can tell it didn't have that panel in the middle
-
We don't really know that for sure though, it's all speculation LOL So I guess we can call this a bit of artistic license :).? I'm also going by the blueprints from the Star Trek Magazine.
Either way, there will be two sets of textures with this ship, one with lighter armour and one with the darker armour (the darker armour being the main ones that will be used with this pack)
-
There's a couple of CG shots of the Steamrunner over at Ex Astris Scientra in the First Contact starship gallery but they don't look half as good as your's! :D
-
Hmmm.... im not sure about the plating on the steamrunner. gonna search for references.
guess i was wrong :)
-
Piccy doesn't show up JTK.
-
Piccy doesn't show up JTK.
it doesnt? for me it does :arms:
edit: for the ones, picture below
-
Piccy doesn't show up JTK.
it doesnt? for me it does :arms:
It says:
"TrekMania
Access Denied
Your illegal attempt to Hotlink has failed!"
So no hotlinking :(
As for the pic itself: I think someone needs to watch FC again. That deflector is far too wide and the bussards too small
-
ah remember the Steamrunner was also seen multiple times in DS9.
-
It's a design I've always liked for some reason and Eclipse is certainly doing her justice!
-
Thank you! I'm working hard on this one LOL. And Nebula is right it was seen in a lot of episodes during the Dominion wars. I've been working on this even more, but pics will be up shortly :).
-
I'll be damned, I totally never noticed that before, it actually does have that panel
-
Well I've figured out how to use the Liquify tool in photoshop (YAY!) Made things easier for the transporter pads :D? I may end up using it for the escape pods too, just to get practice with it :)
Comparison shots!
EDIT: Or not on the escape pods...
-
Nice! :)
-
She does indeed have that paneling, but unless significant changes were made to her in DS9, I don't think the panels were ever that dark. I'm going from memory here though, so I could be wrong. Let me see what I can find for reference images.
EDIT:
Wow. Shots of this ship are hard to come by! Anyway, here are a few I found:
From First Contact:
While I have no idea how accurate it really is, this looks like a good shot of the CG model from FC:
This sight has a a bunch of stills from First Contact:
http://www.shiporama.org/steamrunner.htm
Oh, and don't be fooled by the size of the bussard collectors. A lot of the red you see in the images from FC are actually just glows reflected off the surrounding hull.
Hope this helps you a bit.
-
Phaser is right Eclipse, your Bussards seem too big.
-
But we like big! :P
-
Phaser is right Eclipse, your Bussards seem too big.
This isn't my model though, it's C2X/P81's model :P
I may rescale it a little though. As far as the panelling, I'm using the Sovereign's colour scheme...that might be why it looks a bit darker lol. I may just ligthen it just a bit, not too much. Then again, I may just darken the hull (not the panelling) a bit to kinda match that photo...Then again, I might also add more panelling similar to that beside the armour. a darker grey like on the Sovereign. This isn't finished y'all :P
EDIT: Also too, it could be that there aren't very many Aztec panels too. Either way, I'm still working on this :P
DOUBLE EDIT: Ok, I just looked, there seems to be more paneling like on the Sovereign's outer edge of the saucer. I feel if I add that it might make the armour look a bit lighter :). I'm gonna see what I can texture in in the next couple of days! I'm taking a LOT of artistic license with this thing :)
-
Here we go :). I think the Sovereign style panels make the contrast a bit more easy. It definitely tones down the Armour a bit :D
However I screwed up at the nose of the Saucer LOL I'll fix that soon :D
-
Might have to call it a Sovereign-runner. :P
-
Sorry Eclipse, I totally forgot it wasn't your model! I do like the colour scheme and panelling. Ties it in with the Sovie and seems logical since they share escape pods so why not hull materials and so forth? :D
-
Btw, are you going to model in the torpedoes on the front of the saucer? It looks crap as just a texture.
-
your new textures looks really awsome :D
-

I've been thinking of how I wanna do that for a while now LOL
your new textures looks really awsome :D
Thank you! Coming from an accomplished modeler and texturer, that's a extremely good compliment :D
-
YAY!? Exams and Spring Semester are finally over!? More time to work on these babies!
I've started work on the Sovereign again, and I'm planning on working on both Sov and Steam at the same time, kill two birds with one stone so to speak :)
The upside of texturing the FC pack is I can have a full .PSD file for the ID map, and I can release the .psd files for the entire ship if I so choose :D.? This pack will require the Skinning and Damaging tool for several ships :D (i'm excited!)
-
Sorry for the lack of updates as of late, I've been pretty busy. But I haven't forgotten these babies LOL. I'll post updated pictures soon. I've figured out a lot in the last couple of weeks on texturing curved surfaces :D.
-
Ok I've started back on the textures. I figured out how to get the curve of the aztec panels like CG did on his Sov 1.0 (1.9 on my install, but mainly because I've added my own pack of ships :D). I'm on my girlfriends computer, so I'll have to wait till I get home to upload any pictures (I also have to get some ingame shots!). As for the Steamrunner, is there anyone who can help me convert this thing? I've been using Max 8 for the updates, and well, the last time I tried the NIFTools exporter I had problems.
-
how DID you do the curved aztecs - I'm curious
-
Simple, I used the UVM Map co-ordinates as a guide. I'll have to make a tutorial soon with photos (unfortunately I'm still at my girlfriends  ) since I'm not good at explaining things.
-
Ok, I've made the fore torpedo bays for the Steamrunner! Tell me what you think!
-
As they say at McDonald's 'I'm loving it!' :D
-
Can't complain, they look as good as torpedo bays can.
-
LOL Thanks Kirk! I just finished the aft bay mapping it and everything. The torpedo textures are on the top saucer glow :D that way I won't have the hassle of making a new texture for the damned thing...I'm gonna have to tweek the texture a bit, and the pictures are pretty much self explanitory as to why...
EDIT: Ok, I forgot to mention...the Steamrunner model is done...now on to texturing her!
EDIT 2: What is the size of the Steamrunner...I'm hating this scaling issue LOL
-
http://lcars24.com/schem16.html (http://lcars24.com/schem16.html)
-
I've tried to match the Escape pods to those of the Sovereign...They're pretty close as is
-
I think the size is like 2X that of a defiant.
that is saucer space alone hmmm
-
I think the size is like 2X that of a defiant.

Hmmm...have to research that one...Isn't the Defiant around 120 metres?
-
I would use the fleet charts at Ex Astris Scientia to scale the ships.
I feel they're much more accurate than LCARS.

Thanks JB! :) Now to weld and convert...if I can do it with Max 8 (Max 3.1 is giving me hell...)

hmm everyone thinks the defiant only has 4 decks... I think it has 6 so I think its a bit bigger...
but anyway... looking at the fleet charts... says the steamrunner is 355m
-
That is really coming along well, good job.
-
Thanks y'all I'm just trying to do the C2/P81 justice. I'm also considering modeling in the running lights much like Scotchy did with the P81 Akira. Any objections to that one? :D :P
-
If you do that, look at how phaser did his (in the TCMP), so you can make them blink.
-
If you're referring to animations I've thought of that! Save from having to use NanoFX for those who don't have it :). I might do the same thing with the Sovereign as well.
-
Please do, I thought it was super neat, and it allows you to have blinkers flashing at different speeds.
-
I'm a bit rusty, but I'd be happy to help you out with animations. I have the TCMP ships in max format, so I can walk you through it. Just give me a nudge on MSN.
-
Sweet, I was just about to PM you Phaser LOL.
-
I really like the dark panels on the steamrunner, it makes it look fierce and gives the ship a hole diffrent feel, I love it
-
I'm working on putting the navigational lights on both the Sovereign and the Steamrunner, I'll also be doing the same with the Norway. Phaser was kind enough to show me how to do those animations! I'm hoping that they work, I haven't tried yet. Once I boolean everything together and weld (just have to figure the welding thing out though) I'll see if someone will assist me in converting this to .NIF (I don't think I'll have a problem with the Sovereign...as I already have that in the 3.1 Max format! with no smoothing errors.)
-
Trying to work fast on the Steamrunner, I've got the running lights on the top saucer booleaned and mapped out (that includes that special animation ;)). Next thing I'm working on is the bottom saucer, then I'll work on the secondary hull and Nacelles and then the model will officially be finished!!!!
-
:arms: Top Saucer FTW! (Artistic License)
-
lmao do I see a Wolf or something ?
-
you have my download :whenitsdone
-
hehe! I've even got the animations working on the blinkers! (THANKS PHASER!)
-
Nice, nice ^^
Have a cookie :)
-
lmao do I see a Wolf or something ?
I see it too!
-
Great job on that!! :D
oh and I see the wolf too :D

I see... ...A Buzzard assembly. Looks pretty though.
EDIT: This is like when we had those magic eye books and I was the only one who couldn't see them.
-
I see what you did there. Creative. I like it. :D
-

I like it too :D
-
Uhm....I haven't started on the bottom saucer texture (which is where the bussard texture is) so I didn't do this lol. Though you guys have given me a good idea with this :P (cookie goes to Voyager for pointing that out) I even think it's the mapping...
BTW, it looks more like a dragon
-
hehe! I've even got the animations working on the blinkers! (THANKS PHASER!)
No problem! Glad to help.
-
I see... ...A Buzzard assembly. Looks pretty though.
I really, really hate to correct spelling, but I too often see Star Trek fans misspell that word. It's bussard, not buzzard. I'm not going to rub it in because I don't want to seem like an a$$hole.
Anyway, I love the new Steamrunner class. I can't wait to see the other First Contact ships!

It's not exactly new, it's the p81 with a twist lol. I've just given her phasers and running lights, and a seperate ID map. I'll be doing the same with the Norway. However, the SNS Akira is one of the best Akira's out there so I won't be messing with that one...Unless there's demand for it.
-
Well, the windows are too blue in my opinion on the SNS Akira, so that would be something I'd change.
-
I changed the SNS Akira windows to a white colour but for accuracy, it's more of a white wine yellow. Also the hull on the Akira is actually slightly tinted blue so maybe perhaps greyscale it and darken it.
-
Also, don't forget to make the sns blinkers blink. ;)
-
Not to mention that the SNS Akira's engines don't glow in all the places they should. :P
-
Those look pretty neat! May I ask if the Model(s) are rescaled correctly? The Steamrunner available seems to be 3times the size it should be compared to the other ships. (If this has askes or stated somewhere just say so, It's been a time since I was here) Looking forward to DL those.
-
I love it.
Cookie back btw!

I'll have to look at the FC Model to let you know...

Wow, I've so totally went over the 2 year deadline I've been talking about for over two years now lol. With the recent change in this, I want to get this done well...soon, I do not know when I'll get these babies in game and HP'd, HOPEFULLY within the next few years. That's counting vacations, sick days, times like this when I don't feel like doing anything (Lurve Lazy Dayz). I have worked a bit here and there on both the Sovereign and the Steamrunner.
Thing is, I'm curious to know how the ID maps are going to work out on the Steamie, mainly because they appear a bit darker in Max (could just be the Rendering). I'm going to keep on trucking with this, and hopefully get a lot accomplished soon.
The sovereign, I'm still working on her. I've worked hard on the secondary hull and the Nacelle textures, all of which are turning out great. I'm so glad of the UVM Unwrapping feature, as that's given me a basis on the textures, and a new way to line everything up. I've fixed the secondary hull near the aft ID area and have sized it up to where it should be. And I've worked on lining the aztec patterning better with the Saucer Section.
I'll post pictures when I can.
-
Sounds great. And you like Full Metal? thats neat aswell, already sent you a nice cookie! :)
-
Sounds great. And you like Full Metal? thats neat aswell, already sent you a nice cookie! :)
Thank you JTK! And yes, Fullmetal Alchemist is one of my favorite Anime shows :). Work is continuing on this as we speak...I've pretty much finished the ID textures...the only thing I need to do is fix the spotlights that are on the inside of the registries on the aft of the Nacelles (I also need to redo that spotlight on the pennant as well :S). But, I come today with good news for those CG Sovereign fans...
I'm about to release a preview pack SPECIFICALLY for the CG Sovereign. All this is doing, is just adding 6 new ships in game (specifically the ones named for the FC pack), and updating the Sovereign and Enterprise ID textures. I'm not adding the HP to the pack, mainly because I feel that almost everyone has their Sovereign HP pretty much the way they'd like it. I don't wanna overwrite that! I've got the ship file set up for the stock Sovereign HP. Anyone is welcome to change this!
EDIT: Forgot to add...the texture sizes will be 1024x1024...as I can't get the registries looking correctly in the 2048 format, they're a bit jaggy :S
-
so these are just registries for the model we already have? or are you including your FC model with it??
-
All ships in the pack are the same model, they just have new textures. Any model iamges you've seen are actual modifications to the original model.
-
so these are just registries for the model we already have? or are you including your FC model with it??
No, I'm not finished with the FC model yet.
This pack is just for the CG Sovereign.
-
Well, I've got most of the secondary hull finished. All that is left is the Quantum Torpedo bay/Captains Yacht, Deflector housing, and the Armour on the bottom of the Secondary hull. I've made a ship icon too. BUT the name of the pic below says everything :P
-
More :)
-
keep up the good work. *quantum cookie*
-
My word, the quality is amazing!
-
Since I'm almost finished with the secondary hull (the only thing I need to do now is texture in the deflector trench and quantum torpedo bay/captains yacht and windows) I'm going to work more on the model. Save the bottom saucer texture for last. I'm working on making the detail on the bottom saucer (those little raised details that were originally textured in). This would add a few hundred polies at least, I'll have a final poly count once I clean everything up (ugh, something else I need to learn about modeling...). Then once I finish with the saucer section, I might work on making new phasers since everyone doesn't like the originals...
-
the originals...
*shudder*
-
Shudder indeed Aeries...
Right now I'm working on a personal and I'm putting this on hold till I get tired of said personal project...
-
Ok, JB got me interested in texturing the Sovvy again...I'll have render photos soon. Heck, I might have ingame pics soon too LOL I haven't played with this baby in a while, and it's time I got back to it :D
-
PIC!!! Sorry for the double post :D
As you can tell I've revamped the aztec pattern on the top saucer :). I've thought of mirroring the texture...but then I thought it wouldn't look right with the portholes...
-
Looks great eclipse :D hate azteching lol, that's what's slowing me down with the bottom part of the saucer :P
Cookie
~Jb
-
Yeah I know it's a pain in the ass! lol. I'm going to definitely have a hard time with the bottom saucer :S especially since I'm going to be adding more physical detail to the model.
-
Just some news on this...
I caught a virus about 3 days ago and had to reinstall Windows...So pretty much all my work up to this point is lost...however I do have an old backup and plan on reworking this again...I'm just hoping my steamy didn't get bit also :(
-
Ouch man, that's really unlucky. Hope you haven;t lost too much work
~Jb
-
That sucks dude... sorry to hear that
-
Ok, so unless i find a fricken Windows OneCare CD in then near future...I'm going to have to start from fricken scratch...at least with the Steamrunner...
-
YAY point....I found an old copy of the textures. So I have SOMETHING saved LOL
-
Just wondering...
Since JTK is working on his Sovereign...should I stop production at least on MY sovereign? Thoughts?
I'm just feeling as though it would be redundant to continue...I would still work to bring the Steamy and Norway up to par model and texture wise....
-
no finish it!!! Can never have enough sovvies!!!!! just like we can never have enough Connies!!!
-
I must agree with the PAM. Finish it, but bring your own thing to it. Best thing to do. :D
-

Don't even think about it !!! Sovereign is the least built ship in BC (at least canon Sovvy... all those post-nem or tri-nacelles doesn't count)
So keep it up mate :D
-
Remember, your Sovie is being textured from scratch. JTK's isn't (at least not yet). :P
-
Ok, I've decided to stick to it...And I've reinstalled Windows once again, pluse Windows Live OneCare to restore my files....Where I was about 5 or 6 more months behind, I'm now only 3 weeks behind schedule LOL. Go me! Work is continuing :)
-
Started working on the steamy again :) fortunately I made a backup of it, so I didn't lose everything. I did however lose the nav lights and blinkers...but, I'm seriously considering just NanoFXing them. I started work on the bottom saucer today :D. And I've found several reference photos...but...I'm just going to stick with this scheme, as I think it looks better, and would be more proper given the timeline.
-
I've never been fond of the Steamrunner design, but I must say, she is looking quite lovely.
-
Thanks F9th. Question for everyone...
A lot of people have been sending me renders of the actual model...I DO have these, but I haven't been going by "canon." Today I just made a dark blue layer to cover the entire hull
Do you guys prefer what I had? Or this? Comparison to show you guys.
EDIT: Come to think of it I'm growing a little more fond of the newer textures....makes it look more like the original renders on drex files :S. I'd still like your opinion.
-
I'd take the blueish one.
-
I'd take the blueish one.
I second that :D
altho grey would look more unified with Sovereign.
I've checked the deflector in FC and it was pale blue not violet
-
Blue and indeed needs blue deflector =]
-
I know LOL I just haven't gotten around to changing the original deflector texture ;). I may just leave the entire hull blue-grey, and just have a separate set of textures for the light grey for those who want that :). Might be easier lol.
EDIT: Changed the deflector
-

EDIT: Changed the deflector
I'd like the light gray textures. They look good.
-
Which is why I'm going to include the grey set alongside of the blue-grey :)
EDIT: I was intending on showing pictures LOL Here they are :) There's some scaling issues with the escape pods...For the life of me I can't size them right :S
Double Edit: Finished the Nacelle and secondary hull textures :)
-
This is looking very crisp and detailed... it's been a long time coming for this usually neglected ship.
Great work!
-
Thanks :) I'm doing my best to get this thing PERFECT...And I have to thank god for the Liquify tool LOL Comes useful if you don't get curves right (and a few spots...yeah they weren't correct!) I'm still having scaling issues with the escape pods...I think the ones on the top saucer may be larger than the bottom :wtf Although I'm going by how they are on the texture itself...(I'm using P81's as a base and drawing over that)
EDIT: I've made a registry :) There will be more than just the Appalacia :D
-
that's hot. :D
-
Is it just me or is there a skull in the bussard collectors?
-
Ha Lol :funny :funny skull :funny :funny lol ha
-
Is it just me or is there a skull in the bussard collectors?
looks like a wolf head to me... and wasn't this brought up before??
-
Looks like Spawn to me ...
-
We had this discussion. I'm still using some of the glows from the original textures LOL. If you look at the c2x/p81 steamrunner you'll notice the same thing trust me :). I also think it looks more like a dragon.
I like it so I'm keeping it :D
EDIT SO I DON'T DOUBLE POST: I've welded the verts together and smoothed her out so there shouldn't be anymore mesh errors on the Steamrunner. She should look much better :). Going to do the same thing for the Sovereign and Norway :D
-
YAY!!! No More Mesh Errors!!! LOL well, there are some smoothing groups that need to be worked on :D. Other than that, it's grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrreat!
Also worked on the bottom saucer a bit Texture wise I'm liable to texture in some portholes LOL it would only go great with the top saucer :D :)
EDIT: Changed the bottom saucer impulse engine area...posted a pic for comparison :)
-
Still working on the bottom saucer. I'm planning on adding portholes and aztecing and she'll be finished :D I'm also working on the top saucer adding in torpedo tubes and what not so that I can be finished with the model (FINALLY) and convert her to .nif so that she can be hardpointed. Which means I need to learn MPE :P
-
If you can make models like theese you will have no trouble with the mpe nice ships, oh and as this is first contact pack dont forget the Millenium Falcon :funny
-
yes, you can't forget the falcon, a totally canon Star Trek ship :funny :funny :funny
-
I totally wish I could take credit for making these models. LOL I'm just modifying the original P81 model really :).
And the falcon??? I Never thought of that :funny :funny :funny
-
You mean that's P81's original model? It looked brand new.
-
You mean that's P81's original model? It looked brand new.
Yep. Imported through the Max 8 NIF importer, welded together and smoothed out so there aren't very many mesh errors and retexturing (WIP :D) Next on my list of things to do with her is create torpedo bays, reweld/smooth, and boom, I iz dun wif model :).
I'm also working on the P81 Norway, it's just I've been working with the Steamrunner the majority of the time
EDIT: Oh I forgot to mention I've modeled on phasers too :)
-

well, now that you mentioned it.. it is possible that I might give a try to importing a Millenium Falcon model to BC.. and othe star wars ships too.. the ones at BCFiles are unacceptable..
-

Oatmeal, chocolate chip, or raisin? Also, out of curiosity, did you also remap the model?
-
How about all three in one ;)
And just the bottom Saucer...which all I did was mirror it...again
Other than that, I've just textured her to look more canon :)
-
Torps :D
-
I know the falcon is not canon but if you watch first contact it is in there because ILM did the speical effects youtube it you will see
-
He knows about the Falcon. Quite a funny thing to add to a Trek film...:P
-
The Falcon is Star Trek canon! :mad
anything shown on screen is canon, and the Falcon was shown on screen
-
Chill dude!
Nice work eclipse, keep it up.
-
Thanks!!! More progress since earlier...considering I actually exported to NIF and she's now in game :D
-
Darkened the secondary hull/nacelle txtures a bit. The speculars actually make her look more purplish LOL but I like it none the less :D. The Aztecing is there, it's just subtle (again, which I like).
-
btw, guys, thinking of SW slipped into ST, I have one for you to look up in 9. look in the starfleet devris field. apparently, they did it again...and this time slipped in Artoo!
some of us are waiting for a replacement Falcon (which is the only SW ship that REALLY needs redone)
-
*sigh* Ok, I'll do it :(
-
YAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAY :D :D :D now a canon First contact battle
And dont overpower the falcon, balance it to a light Cruiser, because it is a freghter
-
Falcon redone ? like that ?

Me and Teleguy were working on this one for quite a time but I got pinned down with exams tho it's finished just need scripting to be done :D
-
Very nice retexture, I wouldn't mind seeing that in an FC pack. I thought about including the falcon as a gag in my FC mission but decided against it because the only one out is so...dated.
-
I wouldn't mind seeing that in an FC pack.
Read thread title. :P
-

Duh. It was meant as a compliment for having it not as a suggestion :P
-
Hey Bones...Thanks LOL
-
that stream needs a few detaileds darked, it looks way too light and some things just don't have the contrast which sorta makes it look odd/or like it has unfinished textures. Nice job on the model though. I would look at 9of9's too, or p81's. They had bussard glow reflections on the hull and deflector glow reflections on the inside rim of the deflector dish cavity which gave it a nice effect.
-
oh god... the falcon... :roll
the steamrunner is ace!
-
oh god... the falcon... :roll

watch it! don't make me quote Han solo here :funny
As soon as we release the Falcon, you'll see which version you like better (yes there are two variants ATM) and pick it for your pack ;)
-
oooo...i bet we are gonna get to see a Falcon based on the physical model that we know and love from the 'true' original trilogy and one based on the CGI version that was used in the special editions....
-
err, actually I meant something like one will be Falcon from original saga, one from Jedi Academy (ported model) and another one painted blue (clone wars Corellian blue decals)
-

I was thinking of making the aztec darker actually Starforce, make them more contrast with speculars. And, I've kept the glows....so they're the original P81's
-
I just realized WHY my ship was looking the way it did...it's because stoopid me forgot to turn off NanoFX in KM and then turn on the speculars LOL here's an updated picture :D As you can see, the Aztecs are showing a great deal more ;)
-
That looks much better.
-
Looks real nice... much more depth.
-
I agree, I may make a few things darker on the secondary hull/nacelle Though I'm loving how this is turning out :D
-
Well, fixing up a new rig surely makes a difference...here is the steamy with both AA and AF turned on max! There are still jaggies, but that's ok with me...it's not like it used to be :)
-
I have never seen a better Steamrunner, great work Eclipse!
-

Jaggies will still appear if you have T&L selected...

Uhm, not sure I have that option to be honest....While I have a faster computer, I've retained my old Radeon 9200 (don't beat me please!!!) until I can afford a new G-Card :)
-
Nice Steamrunner! BREATHTAKING!
-
Thanks. Been working on the top textures again...not quite sure if I got the front right :S Going to work on it more till I like it :D
-
Is there a way to sort of animate the bussard collectors like on the Sovereign? That would make a nice addition to it.
-
I haven't really thought of it to be honest. I'm not even sure I would be able to pull it off without it looking funky....
-
you would nee to find some one with Max 3 to export it to nif. Honestly i would love all ship to have that.
-
I never liked Steamruner's design but now I want it :D you did great man, have a cookie !
-
I really really like the textures. Cookie.
-
I haven't really thought of it to be honest. I'm not even sure I would be able to pull it off without it looking funky....
that should be no big deal. I would suggest working with the alphas instead of editing the textures themselves.
-
Beautiful Steamrunner.

Yea, the animations is not a big deal at all. Though it would be a nice addition to your beautiful model, it is not a need, just a suggestion from a fan lol. Keep workin on this man. Its killing me lol. I wonna make movies with it :D
-
A new FC Sector 001 battle anyone??
-
A new FC Sector 001 battle anyone??
That would be RifleMan ;) what do you say mate ? would you be able to make video of this complexity ?
-
well, if I recall right, he has already done the BOBW battle.. so this shouldn't be too much of a challenge. I'm sure that he will slip in a galaxy-class ship or two ;) :funny
-
I'll look into it, and don't worry I have Max 3.1 :D
But I must say work on this is on a hault till about oh...5pm EST today I've been stuck at my in-laws the last couple days and so I haven't had the opportunity to work on this :).
-
Does anyone have any suggestions on the front where the two new torp bays are? I'm not satisfied with it, and well any options might be of help :D
-
they are in the right place, right on top of the forward cargo/shuttle bays
-
they are in the right place, right on top of the forward cargo/shuttle bays
I know, I'm just not happy with the textures of the cargo bays ;).
-

It looks good to me. But if you are not satisfied with them doors, I am sure any changes you make will be for the best. You can post some screenshot options.
-
Ok, I've fixed everything, and I likes it :D :D :D :D
-
how about 32-bit color pics? ;)
-
No can do...cause I don't know how :P
My computer runs a Radeon 9200 Graphics card which is 128mb's...and it's set at it's maximum settings
-
Go into Configure/Graphics and change Colour Depth to "High".
If it affects your entire monitor, right click on your desktop, go to properties, then settings and then change the colour quality.
-
Ugh...in the graphics program? Or properties?
As you can see it's already set at 32...
And besides, My radeon 9200 is a place holder until I can afford to get a better graphics card...
-
Ok, so its an inside-BC problem.
Run BC, go to Configure/Graphics and change the Colour Level to "High".
-
Yeah, I figured that out :funny my day hasn't been all that great, I should have known that already :(
ARGH, why is my AA and AF off?
Even turning off T&L does nothing :( I go back to low quality colour level and everything is fine...
I think I just need a new graphics card y'all. So until I do get one, you have to put up with the low color quality I'm afraid :(
EDIT: Or not, I don't know, what do you guys think?
-
Pretty darn good.
Cookie

PM me how you fixed that and you'll be my deity for all of February. :D I have a Radeon GFX card as well and ever since the computer crashed AA has only been enabled on 16 bit colour.
-
AA and AF are off with the BC Color Quality at high...with color quality on low, it's on...I've tried everything, turning T&L off, changing my graphics options...etc, and there's still Jaggies when on high color depth...
Plain and simple, I need a new graphics card :P
-
Eclipse, what make & model is your graphics card?

Ugh...in the graphics program? Or properties?
As you can see it's already set at 32...

Yep, unfortunately, the 9200 has had some issues with AA & AF in 32bit mode. So, don't think you're alone.
If you're strapped for money but still want a decent card I've seen some older 9700 or 9800 Pros for sale on the internet for very good prices... and those cards are significantly better than the 9200.
-
Yeah, I figured that out :funny my day hasn't been all that great, I should have known that already :(
ARGH, why is my AA and AF off?
Even turning off T&L does nothing :( I go back to low quality colour level and everything is fine...
I think I just need a new graphics card y'all. So until I do get one, you have to put up with the low color quality I'm afraid :(
EDIT: Or not, I don't know, what do you guys think?
It looks great. Just hope its the right scale though.
Hell, it could even have flames painted on it with a Volkswagon badge where the registery is and I still would love it solely for the correct scale.
(PS: Don't be afraid to include textures like that as an extra option by the way, lol. Would look awesome!)
-
Right about now it's the same size as the original model in KM (C2X/P81's Steamrunner) I'm trying to rescale it a bit to make her more cannon, and keep up with the sizing of the Sovereign's escape pods (They should be the same size) so in all I'm scaling it about half of what it is. I've also changed the ID Texture again. Considering I never put an H in Appalachia LOL It's right now :D. I think I'm going to go with the names in EAS (Ex Artist Scientica for those who don't know) for the pack :).
EDIT: I'm not sure what the scaling issue is, is it that it's a bit bigger? Or smaller? Right now I've scaled it a bit smaller. I've scaled her and ported her, then I just used the original KM Steamrunner HP to show the difference. The flash is where I fired a torpedo.
-
The Steamrunner was too big, actually a by quite a bit. A lot of P81's work from way back when had scaling issues. Any way you could show a comparison shot between the Steamrunner and something like a Galaxy or Sovereign? I only ask so you could get some scaling opinions.
-
I'm not entirely sure how to do that to be honest *blushes if it's as easy as Pie*
-
render a sovereign and the steamrunner at the same time, or take a screenshot of them right ontop of each other, there is in that scenario little room for error
-
Visual Effects Supervisor David Stipes said that an overall length of 243.8 meters was generally used onscreen.
That places it at just under half the size of the Akira Class: 464.4 meters
-
JB Is helping me rescale the ship :) but thank you for the references :)
Under the circumstances, I wish i could give you guys a brand stinkin new steamrunner class model as well as a new Sovereign (Wiley is doing a heck of a job on the Sovereign though) and Norway. However, my modeling skills are limited. All i really know how to do is texture and do basic modeling (Like smoothing, Unrwrapping UVW Maps, making phasers.) Once I get more experience I hope to bring you guys more good BC material :). I'm just glad I'm doing good enough job with all of this that you can't tell the Steamrunner is P81's. Makes me feel like I'm doing an excellent job! I appreciate all of your critiques and compliments!
-
Converted and scaled.
~Jb
-
SWEET! I'd tap that.. :evil
-
LOL JB as I said in my email, there wasn't any need to convert her to NIF but I do appreciate the thought! :D
-
Very nice, I've been looking forward to a good, properly scaled Steamrunner for ages :D
-
Excellent, but I have to ask, which Akira mod is that?
-
Thaht would be the JLS SNS Akira retexture which isn't available yet.
-
Thaht would be the JLS SNS Akira retexture which isn't available yet.
Yup
MAJOR EDIT: I'm working on modifying the HP to scale it down also...
-
Looking at the windows, it seems a little too small. There's 2 Steamrunner decks for every Akira Class deck.
-
There have been speculations as to the size of the steamrunner. some say 355, others 248. I don't know, I'm working on completing the saucer and then I might rescale the windows.
-
Well, judging by the Bridge Module the size you have now seems to make sense.
-
Yes, but it's the windows that are bugging people lol
-
Well then let Alex Jaeger settle the argument, consider this a present from the Excalibur resources folder :)
-
:funny Mark, you're a Genius!!!
EDIT: By the looks of that picture though P81 actually got it right...
-
Workin' on the Sovereign, trying to gain back what I've lost :(
So far I'm catching up on the nacelles and pylons...so pics will come soon :D
-
Well then let Alex Jaeger settle the argument, consider this a present from the Excalibur resources folder :)
excalibers recource folder?
its available at either drexfiles or eavesdropping (John eaves)
nothing excalibur about it really :P

They are using it for the game Excalibur
-
Glad to hear you're back on the Sovereign. I've been waiting for an FC Sov for ages.
-
At least one picture of the work done on the Nacelle pylon...it's by NO means finished yet, but I'm hoping to complete it sometime this week!
EDIT: I might make it a 2048 texture to get a clearer view...I scratched the vents LOL

 epic fail
-
And here I am again with the sovereign nacelle pylons...i've also added illumination to the nacelle itself (I'm going to have to redo the ID Glow at the rear of the Nacelle, that's next on my list :).)
And I've also done some work on the top portion of the secondary hull :)
-
Fixed the spotlight on the Enterprise nacelle only so far...I'll work on the other registries later. I also worked on the bridge too :D. I have a few more aztecs to put in and she's [the bridge] done :)
-
Working on a few tidbits on the bottom of the saucer :D Then the model will be complete, and converted (again LOL)
-
mmm it's shiny :D afterall were getting new sovvy :dance great work, have you thought about making NEM variant ?
-
mmm it's shiny :D afterall were getting new sovvy :dance great work, have you thought about making NEM variant ?
Nah...JB did a good job on CG's sovereign :) and besides this isn't exactly a new sovvy. It's CG's very first Sovereign model the ol' Hawkeye model...I just added ID Maps (an extensively modified CG ID Map), new textures. And now I'm doing what I'm doing to the bottom of the saucer :)
EDIT: Although I have thought of making a Nem Sovereign pack if JB would allow me LOL

How long do you need for the FC sov ? any ideas? i thought of releasing my sovy pack this week.

SWEET!!! :D
-
:yay:YAY!!! :dance
-
Work's begun on the Nemesis Sovereign Pack I have to say Thank you to JB! :D
I'll also still be working on the FC Ship pack at the same time (oy the work!!! LOL)
-
Ok, I'm working on another project at the moment that will be separate from everything else...
I'm trying my hands at modeling for once, and I want to get this right. Since CaptainRussell has pretty much disappeard off the face of the planet (he might appear every once in a blue moon and I just don't notice he's online) I'm going to try my hands at the Luna Class Titan.
Keep in mind, I am a beginner when it comes to modeling, so if she's not right, let me know LOL. However I'm planning on this to be no more than 13,000 polies, and I'm considering doing two main 2048x2048 textures and an ID map for the entire thing.
I'm also asking the experts for advice and guidance, because I really would love to be more than just a texturer. And I realize that it's mostly trial and error.
I will have pictures to come shortly, as I'm stuck at the moment on a problem with the Luna Saucer (For the life of me I can't figure out how to make her eggshaped like Torangeau's pictures). If anyone has suggestions please let me know :)
EDIT: because I made the mistake of saying less than 13,000 when I meant no more than.
-
Best of luck to ya! We could use a higher res Titan. One little hint, don't make the saucer completely round, at symmetrical points in the front hemisphere of the saucer there's flattened sections. Kinda hard to point out though, don't have reference in front of me.
-

EDIT: On another note, I've figured out what I'm gonna do about the saucer LOL
EDIT: And on another note, that didn't work as well as I expected :(.
EDIT #3: because i misunderstood what shadow was saying oops LOL
-
FFD Modifiers FTW!!!! :dontcare:
And not to worry, I plan on adding more detail today (like around the edges where it's indented)
-
Nice start :yay:
-
Nice start :yay:
Thank you! :) I'm trying my best...hopefully I'll be able to get this done! It will take a while (hopefully it won't be outdated before release :P) but I'm sure I can do it :D
-
Before you get too far in, I'd probably redo that saucer with more segments. It looks pretty jagged atm.
-
Hey DJ, took your advice, instead of using 36 segments I used 64, looks MUCH better IMHO :) Thanks! Any more advice for this young modeler? :P
Started working on the Impulse engines...I have yet to boolean them (I know that's not always the best route but hey I figure :))
More pics :D
EDIT: Booleaned the Impulse Engines and what not :)
EDIT#2: Another picture from behind...
EDIT#3: I just realized that right now, this thing is sitting at 2364 polies, LOL The same year the Enterprise D was launched :D
-
Ok, after looking at Limey's secondary hull tutorial LOL I'm going to use that to work on the Luna that I'm making :) especially on certain areas on the saucer (the catamarans). Hopefully I can get this right and everyone can be happy (or happy to blow this design that they don't like up)
-
I love the Luna. It took me a bit to appreciate her, but that happened with the JJ-Ent too.
-

Same here, but others don't like it as much.
*sighs* I can't get the catamarans to look right...I've deleted, created, deleted, and created time and time again to the point I'm ready to give up on this project...maybe start off with a borg cube or something :(. I like a challenge, but damn this is hard LOL
-
Flippin YAY man, I finally managed to get the catamarans made! :D I iz happy!
(granted there are a bit of small smoothing issues, but I'm still happy LOL
-
Very good!
-
Do you know how to use shapemerge?
-
No, actually I haven't even heard of it before....lol GOOGLE
-
I don't recommend using shapemerge. Its results are very error-riddled.
What I often recommend is going into an Orthographic View. Drawing whatever it is you are "cutting-out" with a spline. Getting the iterations to the point where you want them, and then cutting with snap-to-vertex turned on.
Sort of like this:
Results are much cleaner and much more controlled compared to a shapemerge result, even if it is slower.
-
I get it, it sucks, I need to redo it :P j/p. Thanks for the suggestions :) it's a damned good thing I have a recovery file....

That's a neat way.
Shapemerge works fine too, you just need to do a little bit of manual vertex clean up afterwords using the snap tool, actually very similar.
-
DJ, question about shapemerge, will it create the round shape of the catamarans???
-
You could shape them out over top of the saucer and do a shape merge, yes.
If I were building the ship, I would actually build the catamarans first, and then build the saucer out from there as a splinecage.
-
Well, I'm fairly new to making actual models so :P you learn what you can :)
Thanks for your suggestions, I'm definitely gonna need more in the future LOL
-
check out some tutorials on splinecaging. most of my modeling is done that way.
-

EDIT: Meh...so I'm dumb at the moment LOL could be where I just need sleep, will definitely do on those tutorials...
-
Just wanted to update...I've completed the new catamarans. They look hella better than the first attempt :) definitely higher poly I will be experementing more with splinecaging for the secondary hull and quite possibly the nacelles. I want to get this perfect :D
-
Well then let Alex Jaeger settle the argument, consider this a present from the Excalibur resources folder :)
Why's the sovereign labeled as a "galaxy class"? :P
Like these projects so far!
-
LOL I haven't an idea, been wondering that myself, and thanks Aeries :D I'm doing my best with the limited knowledge I have :)
-
An unfortunate update:
I'm temporarily without a monitor LOL So I can't work on any of my projects till I get one :(
It sucks but I will provail damnit :banghead:
-
I know how you feel, I just had to replace my own monitor.
+1 sympathy cookie

Blast!
-
All is well I can get back to working on the model tomorrow afternoon, my sister is bringing a monitor in the afternoon :).
-
I've pushed ahead a little before my monitor went out and created a saucer texture for the Luna. Half top, half bottom, and I've created my own aztec pattern on the laptop to use when I get the monitor from my sister (thank god for webspace). Am I crazy for this??? LOL
-
Crazy can be a good thing. ;) Best of luck!
-
Yeah...if I can find a fricken monitor by friday I'll be peachy...unless someone knows of a way to hook a PC up to a laptop....and I mean literally without any shared networks or anything of the sort
At which point there's a license error in Max 8 so I might be switching to 3.1 for a while on the laptop :(...or...I can just wipe my laptop clean and go from there....either way I'm pretty well urinated
-
have you tried plugging your PC into your TV? That's pretty easy to do.
-
have you tried plugging your PC into your TV? That's pretty easy to do.
I don't have an up to date TV to be quite honest, it's kinda 80's-ish...That, and there's a door in the way LOL.
Though Aces, you get a cookie because i'm gonna use my personal TV in the storage unit if I can find an adapter LOL
-
that shouldn't be too hard, I know my graphics card came with a VGA to RCA adapter, as well as an S-Video-out port.
-
Yeah, at the moment I can't read crap LOL but hey, what can I say :P
-
Lower the screen output resolution to 640*480 or less.
-
Can't. Lowest it goes is 800x600. I've just got the magnification up at least on IE by I think 200%, it's a little better LOL. Gosh i wish i had HD :P
-
The Good news is, I have a new monitor
The bad news is...I no longer HAVE bad news :D
EDIT: And please no "you're getting too ahead of yourself" comments, I mapped it just this once and well, I wanted to see how she'd look with textures :P She's very light...which is temporary, I plan on making her just a tad darker, almost in line with JLS's Sovereign.
EDIT 2: There's some minor smoothing issues with the impulse engines, they're being taken care of :)
EDIT 3: if anyone reads this, I need some advice on splinecaging...I've tried using it on the secondary hull and I can't seem to get it right :( any suggestions????
-
Bump because I need advice LOL. I'm trying my best to make the secondary hull using Splinecaging as DJ Said...but I'm having a hard time with it...I'd like to have some more options as to building the secondary hull. Or...perhaps i'm doing things wrong LOL Either way HELP...MID (Modder in Distress)
-
I'll post something advice in a bit...
-
eesh...that sounded mean :( perhaps I misphrased. I'm doing everything in the tutorials, it's just shaping it to the Titan that I'm having a hard time with. I'd like to fix it...that's what 5 shots of 151 and two strawberry daqueries will do to you
-
Ok, so one of my friends sent me an email and it had the 3ds Max bible in it LOL. I'm going to be reading and studying through it and working on the Luna while I'm doing this.
-
Well, in all honesty, the Luna class's secondary hull is a bit...strange compared to some others'. Best of luck mate!
-
Well, in all honesty, the Luna class's secondary hull is a bit...strange compared to some others'. Best of luck mate!
Which is WHY i've been worried LOL. It's similar to the Sovereign's, but it's not entirely the same.
-
At the moment, I'm kinda frustrated. I'm taking a small break from this (possibly a week) I just need to cool off and well...read the Max Bible...and take some time to actually learn the ropes a bit instead of jumping the gun and doing exactly what i've done with the Luna...
-
Just don't get rid of that saucer, I think it's perfect.
-
lol I haven't, and I won't! Just taking a few days to cool off so I don't throw the entire computer away :P
-
Ok, taking time out of my PCDJ skin, and moving to start working on the Luna again...I'm still trying my best at splinecaging the secondary hull...it's not turning out so great as well...it's an odd shaped secondary hull :(. I haven't given up yet :) I'm looking for more decent tutorials and I'm also reading up on the Max 8 bible. Wish me luck you guys! :D
And advice is still welcome :D
-
Ok, I haven't updated in a while, and there's good reason. I'm giving up on the Titan for now (this is temporary)....I don't have the modeling experience necessary and no tutorial is helping me. I'm a book smart type person so I need training in a classroom. So this semester I'm going to sign up for a few modeling classes and go from there.
I will still hone my Photoshop skills though and try to complete the Steamrunner at least (Since wiley is making an FC Sovereign that is about 20,000,000 times better than my retexture). I may even model some phasers on the P81 Norway and retexture her also.
But as far as the Luna goes...unless someone wants to take the time and help me learn Max (and even then I'm not guaranteeing that I'll learn) it's on the backburner for now.
-
Well I'm back on the Titan...
EDIT: Actually I'm just going to rebuild the Secondary hull again, but, I'm not giving up on this this time. I know what I did the last time, and I'm going to reimpliment those techniques this go around.
-
You can do it! We believe in you Eclipse!
-
I really like the Luna Class design... go at it eclipse!
-
theres only a few (if that?) Luna Classes out there available for BC, so it is fresh ground - have your take at it :)
-
i think the only luna we got was ported from legacy. I look forward to seeing the results of your build
-

Actually it was Armada...
theres only a few (if that?) Luna Classes out there available for BC, so it is fresh ground - have your take at it :)
And one that was never finished *raises hands at CaptainRussell* This is actually going to be more like the Ellery model, except I plan on using Sovereign escape pods instead of what was used for the actual 3d model.
Also I must point out I'm still learning LOL so hopefully this turns out to be a great experience for me :)
Thanks for your encouragements!
-
Bump: Reason there hasn't been any updates recently is because I've been taking my time with this one. I'm not done cutting into the model just yet as i need to cut out the space for the main impulse engines. BUT I have FINALLY got everything how I want to at the moment so I present to you:
The new beginning of a Luna Saucer :)
As stated I'm taking my time with this one because I want this to be right. I hope you enjoy what I have thus far...
-
I really hope this one works out for you it is a deceptively difficult model to do obviously and I am interested in seeing the results.
but so far it looks like a good start I cant wait to see where it goes from here
-
Especially the pain in the ass secondary hull LOL I'm still wondering how I'm gonna pull that off.
-
Once again, best of luck eclipse!
-
Thanks.
I'm working on the bridge area right now. And I'll be gone for the weekend so I won't have any updates till maybe next week. (WOOHOO FLORIDA!)
-
*kicks the 30 day warning at the top of the reply page* Damnit it's MY THREAD :P
Just wanted to update since I haven't in quite a while, I'm still working on the steamrunner and the luna, but I had forgotten that JB06 gave me permission to actually use his Nemesis retexture to make a sov pack LOL. Been working on this lately and I'm almost done with the registries. I won't touch the HP's as they're pretty well made anyways. I have to thank JB for letting me do this!
So far I've only got the Sovereign in Game, PIC!
-
Nice!

How many registries are you making for the Sovereign Pack? Because I would like to formally request a specific name/registry for one of the Sovereigns, if it's not too much trouble of course. If it is well, never mind lol :)
-
The same ships as my FC Sovereign:
U.S.S. Columbia NCC-81712
U.S.S. Enterprise (of course)
U.S.S. Independence NCC-80346
U.S.S. Kyoto NCC-81531
U.S.S. Nimitz NCC-81014
U.S.S. Republic NCC-79117
U.S.S. Sovereign (Also..of course!!)
U.S.S. Vigilant NCC-78151
As far as requests go, Send me a PM!
-
hey the U.S.S. Kyoto is taken >.> LOL XD
nice set of ships though.
-
hey the U.S.S. Kyoto is taken >.> LOL XD
Well it's a good thing it won't overwrite yours then :dontcare: now there's two!!! ;)
And actually this is just my tribute to CG :). As they're his ships/registries that he was planning for 2.0. So credits to him also LOL
-
I like your names! Especially the USS Independence! I always liked that name for a ship!! :)
-
Sorry about the double post. But I have a recomendation for a sov name. Idk why but for some reason I think the USS Destiny is a Soverign? (Its the ship Ezri Dax was posted on before coming to DS9)
Thought that since its a cannon ship it might be appropriate for the pack! :D
-
No problem with the Double posting, although you do have an option to edit posts just so you'll know next time :).
So was it specificaly mentioned in an episode of DS9 that Destiny was a Sovereign Class? I'll have to reserach that before I make my final decision.
-

In Canon, no it wasn't said to be a Sovereign Class. They only mentioned she was on the USS Destiny. However, Star Trek Armada 1 & 2 both labeled the USS Destiny as a Sovereign Class. I don't know what Registry they used though.
http://memory-alpha.org/wiki/USS_Destiny (http://memory-alpha.org/wiki/USS_Destiny)
-
The Armada games do not use registries. Ship textures are so low quality that registries are indistinguishable. The names are drawn from a pool listed in a text file for each ship. That name is displayed only when the ship is selected.
Of course, images always speak louder than words:
-
I'm going to use what I have for now...as I've already made the scripts and I don't want to make anymore. I want to be able to release this thing by christmas...
As for the steamrunner, I'm hoping to complete everything before christmas, maybe make some more registries. I have to readjust the windows so they'll match the Akira JB is planning on releasing (hopefully in the next year :P).
Oy...which also means I'm re-doing the glows a bit...*sighs*
-
Update on the steamy! I've put windows on the bottom of the saucer.
HOWEVER it is not exact to the studio 3d model. I just feel that artistic licensing would be better here since we really didn't get a good look at the model on screen...just some renders that Drex Files has. That's just with the cargo bays on the front of the ship.
-
Glad to see some life in this project! The Steamrunner looks awesome
-
Glad to see some life in this project! The Steamrunner looks awesome
Glad you approve :D I'm working on tweaking the HP to fit the model...and...I've tweaked the saucer texture a bit HOPEFULLY the windows on the top saucer will be more acceptible to some :)
-
Looks great Eclipse! Real clean.
-
Looks great Eclipse! Real clean.
Thanks!!! :) Hopefully she'll still damage well...I have a LOT of HP tweeks to make I'm afraid....and some registries too!
-
Looks good to me.
-
:D I love this steamrunner,
Are you releasing the ships with both the grey textures and the blue textures ?
Great work,
-
Incredible and HQ streamrunner
-
Amazing!!! Finally doing her justice! Well done Sir :yay:
-
:D I love this steamrunner,
Are you releasing the ships with both the grey textures and the blue textures ?
Great work,
I've been thinking about that...and I'm thinking of releasing an extras folder with the grey textures if anyone wants those. I mean, all I have to do is just turn off one simple layer LOL
-
Incredible and HQ streamrunner
Well, the textures are 1024x1024 so it's not exactly THAT HQ LOL. However, thanks! I've put a lot of work making the P81 steamrunner my own piece of work! :) I'm glad I've succeeded!
-
Wow that Steamy looks great so far man.
-

Hey, it's better than the current Steamrunner, so I'd say HQ.
-
HP is almost finished...I am thinking about making it just slightly weaker than the Sovereign, but not too much so. I just can't shake this feeling that the Steamy was originally intended for more scientific research instead of scouting or border patrol.
Hopefully I can get this HP right...
Oh, and just so you guys will know...this is my first venture into HPing...the Titan (once I get the hang of Max) will be my first venture into modeling...and I have a firm grasp on texturing LOL. I guess I'm my own little mod team :)
Anyways, if anything is too strong or too weak...blame me :D

That steamrunner is looking great
*sighs* I should really check in on my threads more often instead of being nostalgic and watching clips from old Mighty Morphin' Power Rangers episodes....(I wish I were a kid again sometimes :()
Thanks Marky! Coming from an expert like you that makes my ego swell :P LOL Seriously though it is an honor :)
-
Any good dragonzord clips in there? Good to hear it will be a bit mean. I always thought the streamy was part of the same pathfinder/anti-borg development program that gave us the defiant.

Eh...I wish, unfortunately I'm watching the original outtake of it instead of the new ones they have on ABC Kids (although it would be awesome to see!)
And as far as the steamrunner yeah, could be that, but I don't know, To me it just looks more brainy than brawny...

Tommy Oliver (Green & White Ranger) FTW! :D
As for the Steamrunner, to me she looked like a smaller support vessel. I do get where she has the "Science" look, similar to the Grissom, but she has been seen once or twice at major Battles during the Dominion War so she would have to be somewhat useful in large scale engagements.

LOL Always green! Might post something here in a bit in the Art forum. (If that's where it goes...)
Anyways, back on topic. Yeah This is true. But since this First Contact we're talking about I should take into mind that DS9 hadn't really gotten to the Dominion War just yet...
Maybe you're right on the support ship.
-
dragonzord is part of the originals. BTW, if you want some more ships like this I have some that could use retextures.
http://bridgecommander.filefront.com/file/Aquino;31173
For instance. Small support ship. I have a few that were never released. I don't know mindblips policy on alterations offhand but I'll look it up.

Hmmm...not bad SF2. Hopefully you get in touch with him...
And btw, did you recieve my PM???
-
yup. I need to migrate the bases to this computer to send them and added you to msn. Though I can't send files (or even links..they always bounce) through it but that's what gmail is for heh.

Cool, as soon as I get on MSN in the morning I'll confirm and add you back!
Goodnight folks!

Not that I want to continue sidetracking the thread with more Power Rangers references lol, I thought you might enjoy this. And, this is my last one. I promise :D

Ok, back on topic here :P
I've sent the Steamrunner to Starforce who's agreed to HP it as long as I help him out on a couple of surprises for the Christmas release :). So hopefully I can get all of this finished and get everything up!

OOOOO, I like Surprises :yay:
-
So, Starforce is completing my Steamrunner HP and I'm finishing up on the registries...I'm thinking five ships total.
So far I have 3
Steamrunner NCC-52130
Ironclad NCC-52131
Appalachia NCC-52136
I'm searching for other names that I can do THIS BABY WILL BE DONE DAMNIT!

Well since you used the name Ironclad, why not name a few after some real world Ironclads?
USS Monitor NCC-52132
USS Warrior NCC-52133
USS La Gloire NCC-52134
Just throwing those out there if you want them :D
-
that steamrunner is hot!
lol, steam=hot..
fuck bad joke..

Will take them actually! It will be easy enough to fit in the registry texture :)
I'll also include an ID_glow PSD for those who want to make their own ships :)
-
UPDATING:
I'm gonna be zipping all my files tonight to send to SF2 so he can get everything on BCF by Christmas :). Unfortunately the Sov pack fell through (too much time with the Steamrunner and the everything else.), but I will be releasing that New Years.
I've even added one more ship to the Steampile
U.S.S. Merrimac NCC-52135
-
you've got file paths in the ship py files saying FCsoverign. Shouldn't they all be steamrunner?
Either way I think I'll run the beta and send it to you for final assembly. For one thing I don't use the high folder and not really sure exactly how your stuff is set up.
NEED THE TACTICAL ICON!!!!!! :readme:

Yeah there's a reason I use a High Folder...it's because I like my things to look neat :P and not strung everywhere just in case I need to use NifSkope for the ship model file ;)
EDIT: Oh and yes, they're supposed to read FCSteamrunner not FCSovereign! LOL I used the FC Sovereign ship file as my basis :)
EDIT 2: If I had used the FCAppalachia Ship File I wouldn't have this problem DAMNIT :banghead: :banghead: :banghead:
EDIT 3: And if this doesn't work it's because the "Multiplayer.SpeciesToShip" in the ships file is reading STEAMRUNNER. I kept this in mind because I know a lot of people have the latest KM install (I have it installed twice, one as my mod testing grounds and the other well just regular :D)...if you don't have this, change these following codes in the ship files of each ship!
"Species": Multiplayer.SpeciesToShip.STEAMRUNNER
to
"Species": Multiplayer.SpeciesToShip.SOVEREIGN
Once you do that it should work!
-
Well it's back to work on the Luna.
And since I want this baby looking like the Ellory 3d model, I thought I'd make the escape pods indention on the saucer. I may start on the catamarans soon, but as far as the bridge area, I'm doing that one poly at a time (I know time consuming and there ARE better ways of doing this, but at least with the way I'm doing it I can adjust everything by hand and I'm still making adjustments)

I hate to be the bad guy, but I must say, you could probably get away with extruding all the hull pannels just like the cgi model as well... it doesn't look like it would even add much to your polycount when all is said and done. :]

Yeah, but you're forgetting this is just the saucer :P I haven't started on the secondary hull just yet however, I plan on just texturing the hull panels. I don't want it going too much above 15k. Low poly (but higher than what we've got), high textures. That's my plan for this one :D
(However I might release this for the NFX Model viewer (once I get a better graphics card and or computer), and if I do that they'll be raised do to good bumping!)
-

I guess that could work. I dunno though, because the sheer epic size of the pannels and just how high they're actually extruded seems a bit much for a bump map to be very effective at emulating... Just a thought, anyways. Though with the overall shape of the Luna being pretty blocky, I'd say it would actually be pretty hard to exceed the 13 or 14k mark. Juuuuuuust my two cents. :3
Edit: Also, cookie for starting this beast.

I feel like a dumbass LOL I read that as "NOT to exceed the 13/14k mark"
EDIT because I didn't read this correctly LOL
-
Bumping because I just wanted to say I've started on the bottom of the saucer...however. I do plan on at least finishing up the top saucer and add the catamarans soon. The way I'm doing this is probably not the best way of going about it, but it's effective. I guess this is what "learning experience" means LOL.

Thanks!!! I might ask for some tips though! (The monitary type! J/K) This is a complete learning experience for me and I do want to get it right!

Honestly, I myself, have no further comments. Let's see how you progress and maybe we can throw some tips at ya. Otherwise you've got a pretty good start. :]

LOL Well the secondary hull is gonna be a killer for me! :P I'll put it that way!
-

For my current skill level, I tend to now build ships in halves and using the symmetry modifier to make them complete. Are you building it in half?

Yep! it's much easier that way IMHO
-
Hey Guys been a while! I'm taking a temporary break from the Luna (I'm having trouble modeling the bottom saucer) and started working on a little something last night...
Took me 3 tries but I think it might be a bit high poly, plan on working on it a bit bringing the count down significantly.
I'll give you guys 3 guesses!
-
Tardis
-
TARDIS!!!!!
What's scary, is how I was thinking how badly I want to model a TARDIS today while I was at work... xD
-
LOL Yeah, well I wanted to take a break from modeling the Luna to learn more on modeling with shapes and modifiers. And now that I've been thinking about it I know how I'm gonna lower the polycount tenfold LOL :D
-
How do you make a Hight poly Tardis?
-
How do you make a Hight poly Tardis?
LOL make it into 12x12x21 segments....makes for a LOT of clicking! :D
-
So apparently using the cutting tool with the snap-to-vertice kills my Max so I'm going to have to cut this damned thing the old fashioned way *Sighs* work harder not smarter.....
-
Moar TARDIS! I've modeled on at least one of the call box signs that is the Front of the TARDIS :). I'll model the rest of them on later.
So far this has been a great learning experience. once I'm done with the call box signs I'll move on to the stacks and the pyramid, then I'll go to the top light!
EDIT: Photo attached...oops
-
Is there a picture to this, or is my computer being a spaz again? :/ xD
-
Is there a picture to this, or is my computer being a spaz again? :/ xD
Bump because of edit in last post.
And I've started work on the Police Box sign on the left and right sides, although I think I'm just going to do only the left side then delete the right side and symmatry tool it!
Edit: YAY STACKS! Got the light fixture to finish a couple of handles and then BOOM texture time!
EDIT: This is the first time I've edited a post and it's bumped it up...that's kinda weird!
EDIT3: MOAR TARDIS!!!
-
Looks great!!
Tennant version?
-
Looks great!!
Tennant version?
Definitely!!! LOL
-
THe lamp gave it away. :p
I miss that TARDIS, though the new one has definately grown on me. :)
-
Well, considering David Tennant was my doctor, I'm paying him homage :).
There should be a reversal regeneration LOL
Textures to come soon!
-
Was there any difference between the Tennant and Eccleston TARDI?
Great work, as usual, Eclipse :p
-
He was my Doctor, too. Well, technically Ecclestone was, but David just blew it all away, lol.
I wouldn't mind a reverse regeneration, but I can't deny that I'm loving Matt's Doctor, I'd only place Tennant ahead because I'm biased :P And that coat, the mother of all that is Godly. <3 xD
@Bren: There wasn't any difference that I'm aware of, inside or out. (Minus the interior lighting sceme, which definatly improved once it lost all of that green.)
-
Fiberglass Vs. Wood if I'm not mistaken, but that's it!
Vortex: LOL That he got from Janis Joplin of all people :D I loved that coat!
-
I have one! :P Seen the real thing on display, as well. :D
And you're right, they did change from FG to Wood.
-
And you're right, they did change from FG to Wood.
I thought it was the other way around???
And I've started working on textures...however my woodgrain making skills needs to get better!
-
Nope, pretty sure they changed to just using wooden ones now.
If I remember correctly, five were made for the Ecclestone series, two of which were wood and they became used all the time when Tennant took over, and at least one given an overhaul when Matt Smith came along.
The grain probably wood- I mean 'would'* ( :P ) be the hardest part to get. xD
-
*slaps 30 day warning* I believe this is my thread I can bump it any time I want :P
So I've been working on the TARDIS texture, and I believe i can fit every single detail on one 2048 texture :D.
However Mapping will be a pain in the ass!
-
Whats her Poly Count?
-
Less than what it was the first time around :| I haven't checked recently, though it shouldn't be that high. I'd say about 5k at most
EDIT: I was right, it was just under 5k...at least I think it is :S
-
Mapping her out! (still not finished!) I am going to change the call box signs a bit to bring the lettering down slightly even. And well as you can see I have a long way to go!
-
The pyramid part of the roof strikes me as a bit too tall. Then again, I'm no Tardis expert.
-
I used plans that I had found on TARDIS Builders...the reason they seem tall is because the show used odd angles when filming.
EDIT: Here's a picture showing what I'm talking about. This is generally the angle we see most.
-
:yay: :yay: :yay: :yay: :yay: :yay:
That shall be all.
-
I see what you mean, nice work so far! :yay:
-
Thanks...have been taking a small break on this lately to watch some Bleach :D LOL Will get back to this whenever I'm done with the Bount ark :D
-
whenever I'm done with the Bount ark
LOL Good luck with that... IIRC that was one of the longest filler arcs.
-

Manga's better. :p

Manga's better. :p
Generally usually always is!!!
Good luck with that... IIRC that was one of the longest filler arcs.
It really depends on how many episodes I watch per day ;) And it's usually about 6 or 7 :D
-
UPDATESS!!!!!
She's starting to look a bit more like the TARDIS we all know and love...well at least Ten's TARDIS! but yeah!
-
looking awesome :D
It really depends on how many episodes I watch per day wink And it's usually about 6 or 7 grin
ha lucky :P I had to suffer the wait when I watched the arc years ago.

Thank God for Netflix! and Crunchyroll ;) And thanks!
-
Bump as I wanted to let you know work is still going with this beauty! I've got the lamp mapped out and hopefully I can texture it right...and I've fixed the call box signs so that they're even now. Still mapping out the windows but I think I'll be finished with the model within the next couple of weeks :)
Pics to come!!!
-
Awesome stuff!!
-
w00t! A Type 40 TARDIS, niiiiiiiiiiiiiiice. Cookie?
-
"It's a Police Box! Can't you READ!?" :dance
-
LOL Well not THAT version of said police box, but hey ;) people have to be BLIND Not to see it :P
-
*shoots at warning*
Hi guys,
Wonder where I've been with updates?
Well after taking a small hiatus from building both the TARDIS and the Luna...I've decided to take on the luna again! This time I've started over so that I can work on both the bottom and top of the saucer THEN work on the secondary hull etc.
I realize the front of the model is a bit segmented and I'm going to chamfer the areas that look segmented shortly.
-
Well she's surely shaping up, about my only problem right now is the Catamarans on the saucer...I'm going to try one more thing before I give up on them totally LOL
Ok, I might NOT give up on them, but I've gotten this far so far and I'm NOT turning back :) Wish me luck fellas (will post pics soon!)
-
Best of luck. I imagine the catamarans aren't easy at all.
-
Best of luck. I imagine the catamarans aren't easy at all.
TO be honest? THey're a pain in the ass!! I have tried I think 16 different attempts LOL even spline caging them! I might have to study the low-poly-luna on BC Files to figure this out!
-
I might have to study the low-poly-luna on BC Files to figure this out!
i had to do that for some components on the Ragnarok, as well as the Eng hull for the MKII Gal. modeled it soo close to DJs he thought i ripped it from his (wich i kind of took as a compliment) so studying the meshes of others DOES help... ALOT.
cant wait to see some new renders!
-

I'll help you with that as i have Kophjaeger's Luna class... much higher poly.. in a number of formats. I'll send it to you as i'm sure that it will be of great help :)
I'll PM you... as i need some help from you anyway :D
-
Do that :D I'll be waiting LOL
-
Bump:
PICS!!! EDD_7 and I are working together to get this version of the Luna in game. I think I've done a good job :)
EDIT: I Probably should have taken an higher res render but oh well LOL
-
i see oooooooone small problem.....
its not done yet :angel
*runs*
looks good guys!

Agreed, but... it's coming along nicely.
I have to say that this ship is one of my favorite designs so... do it justice ;)
-
Yay, a new Luna :yay:
-
Not really new LOL And Cy is right it isn't done yet :P If anyone wants to help me learn how to use MPE now we could get the ball running :P
Started working on the HP btw...definitely a learning experience!!!
-
Hmmm...
Has this particular model of the Luna been released for Bridge Commander? y/n?
No? Then it's new. :yay: :dance :funny
-
Meh :P
-
If anyone wants to help me learn how to use MPE now we could get the ball running :P
start by telling your computer how much you love it and that to ignore the amount of cussing youll inevitably be throwing at it.
-
Lmao Oh I do that enough already as it is :P I really need a new rig!!!!
-
i dont know of anyone off the top of my head that could give relevant advice about MPE.. that program has made me want to :bluescreen: SOOOOOOO many times.
only point i can give you is DONT use the mouse to set points, use the keyboard. for SOME ODD reason, it would shoot the property halfway across the screen with one frickin click.
-
Why do I have this feeling that there will be "U.S.S. Lovegood" by some Potter fan.. :funny
-
oy .. harry potaaaah for me !!! or at least won-won :P
-

reiterates "facepalm"
and this FROM a potterite
-
*sighs*
Let's get back on topic before Jimmy has a Kaniption fit....
I've actually used a mouse with MPE before it's not THAT bad Cyanid3 LOL
-
Well I see this is one way to circumvent the catamaran issue, Eclipse. :P It looks really good. On a side note, I was wondering what an Aventine color schemed version of this would look like. Just throwing that out there. :)
-
Oh don't get me wrong I'm still working on my Luna LOL But this is gonna be a testbed of sorts :D.
I might end up using the HP from this version on mine (make a few tweeks here and there etc).
EDIT: Well I'm gonna have to weld some verts together (IE I have to attach the ID maps to their respectful meshes) in order to get the ship looking right...
P.S. And someone said Let There Be Light!!
-
Wow, the Titan got all the way to the Void that fast? :angel
-
Wow, the Titan got all the way to the Void that fast? :angel
Yup, 'fraid so! LOL
ANNNND SCREENIE! still a lot of work to do (IE Unifying the mesh) but I think it can get done

Nuff said

Hey hey looking goood. i have just remembered that i have 19 other registries for the luna. But we'll have to split them in 2 halves and have 10 for this one and 10 for the slipstream version of the ship. Cookie for :)
I've attached an image to refresh memories. This one has NEVER EVER been released and i'm sure Eclipse, and alittle bit of help from me, will get this to you aswell. ( Please note that these Pics are from a Conversion that didn't work to well )
-
No biggies there EDD! I'm sure we can get them together :).
I STILL need to HP the original though...once I do that this thing can be called finished!
Though if you will could you post the names and registries of each ship and which one goes to which Luna (SS or Regular). Might make things easier for me if you catch me drift :D
-
Looking good guys!
-
Top work here, looking forward to the release!
-
Alright, got the DefaultID_glow texture finished, which includes the Slip Stream textures...should be interesting :D.
I never realized working on HP's was this difficult!!! BUT one has to learn!!!!
Another thing I have to learn how to do...SCALE...:S
-
use an Xform modifier to change the scale on the model, otherwise it wont affect anything
-
use an Xform modifier to change the scale on the model, otherwise it wont affect anything
'Splain yourself? :P
Edit: Never mind
-
you use an Xform modifier on the model to do any kind of scaling, otherwise you can scale the model without it all you wish and aint a durn thing gonna change when the model goes ingame.. unless i mis read what kind of scaling your attempting?
-

So what you're saying Is I can scale her correctly in MAX But it won't show up in game unless I use an xform modifier? I just scaled the Titan (first version) in 3.1 and everything seems fine, albeit I have to modify the HP I'm using considering I moved the ship to 0 on all axis. (I like things centered)
EDIT: Ok, I just used an XForm modifier in Max 8 with the slip stream version and WOW...100% easier LOL thanks Cy!
-
no problem ;)
-
Well, slip stremed Luna is now converted and in game...I'm going to work on the original Luna's HP first though to get her up and running. Then I'll blank the Default ID Texture and work on making her SDT ready (Skinning and Damaging tool).
-
Well, I'm having a bit of trouble with the HP LOL Mostly I'm a noob at MPE  But It's nothing but trial and error for me so eh...
I'm surprised though because I feel I've got the ship scaled properly but the HP I'm modifying as my own well seems a bit...smaller :S
-

do you have another luna HP you can plug in just to check if the scaling IS correct?
-
No, the only Luna Class' released for BC were this one (http://bridgecommander.filefront.com/file/Luna_Class;98591) and this one (http://bridgecommander.filefront.com/file/Star_Trek_Online_Luna_Class;108729) Both use the same Model....
my scaling isn't the problem...mostly because I've scaled it to DJ's galaxy class and CG's Sovereign (I used CG's escape pods as reference) The HP from the first Luna is the one I'm using as reference. I plan on deleting and adding some things to it and making it my own.
However I might need help with balancing...as I've never done this before LOL
ANOTHER EDIT: The top saucer is going to be a problem...mostly due to the phaser array's weird shape...any suggestions?
-
Possibly split the dorsal phaser HP up into sections?
-
EDIT: I've sent the model to an experienced HP'er, I can't for the life of me figure out where I messed up on the Phasers...
The arc looks as though it's going all the way around the dorsal saucer...(could be that I've used 3 arcs instead of like 6 or 7 that most people use)
Hopefully this will get finished soon and hopefully I can work on the Slipstream Varient.

Brilliant :) one step closer :yay:
Abit from me, :D i've prepared the registries ( although i need to modify them for the new UV Map ), Suggestions are welcome to which names are the normal Luna Class, and which are for the SlipStream Luna Refit. Of course these registries can be change and new ones can be made, But these are the originals from Legacy :)
The Names are:
(Proposed Normal)
USS Luna NX-80101
USS Titan NCC-80102
USS Oberon NCC-80103
USS Europa NCC-80104
USS IO NCC-80105
USS Triton NCC-80106

Thanks Edd, working on new textures now :D

ah.... so that's why Miranda probed UrAnus in Mass Effect 2 :funny :funny :funny
USS Cracov NCC-82328
why not making her another ship to bear the name, I mean we had Krakow name (that's how it's originally spelled) already on that PDW Excelsior refit, full name was USS Krakow NCC-71928 so Luna would have USS Krakow NCC-71928-B ;)

-
Hey! The U.S.S. Hyperion is my Luna-class in STO!
-
 :P
sry, couldn't resist :hithead: :funny
-
Well done with this Luna! It's about time we get a high-quality model of her! Must have been a real c*nt, too, to model the secondary hull? I tried modeling the Luna once, and failed epically with the secondary hull. :P
-
I wouldn't know I didn't model her :P Kophjaeger did :D
-
I could give it a start, again.
-
I could give it a start, again.
Or you could teach me how I can finish MINE :P
-
Just build the secondary hull really basic to just get the overall shape. Use the 'Connect' option under 'Edit Edges' to add extra verticies. Extrude shapes if you want, weld verticies, etc.
-
UPDATE: (I actually erased what I had originally said instead, this was meant to bump with an update )
I've got just about all of the registries fininshed...The hardest part was keeping up with the names LOL Good thing I got them all saved :).
Now hopefully Starforce wil have enough time to work on the HP on his off time (No rush bud).
-
yea I already got the prelim done on the plane for mackies minow and a furswift excel so the luna is up next. basicly we are getting paid to twittle our thumbs because the company didn't fwd legal paperwork ahead of us and they are taking the info but don't know who to give it to out here lol..gotta love it..oh yea and something about some storm named Irene heading right for us. Anyways, Phasers are easy but sov styled saucers aren't fun but my best guess is, without having actualy looked at it yet, one good afternoon ought to do it. I plan on getting plenty of modding done while I am here. Getting it uploaded before irene sucks up all the internet around here..er..no promises.
-
Yeah, hope everything turns out alright for you over there (or UP there considering I'm in NC). Like I said no rush. Safety is always first!
-
Ok, I've thought about using JB and Cord's Glow tutorial...
My question is. the Lightmaps. do they have to have the registry of every ship??? Or will they be alright without them!?!
-
Every ship
-
K...crap lol never mind then :) (I'm lazy and don't want to put 25 registries on a lighmap....)
-
K...crap lol never mind then :) (I'm lazy and don't want to put 25 registries on a lighmap....)
Well if you are only wanting to put glows on the nacelles and they are on a separate map, you can do the regs the usual way with alphas
-
Actually no, I was wanting to put glows on the deflector also, but those glows are on the captain's skiff (which that texture is on the saucer) and secondary hull. BUT!!! I think I have an idea on that considering on the 3d mesh that Ellery made the registry texture basically has two spotlights directly on the registry like the JJ Prise. That would also mean I'd have to get rid of the spotlights on the secondary hull (Or...maybe not!!!)!
EDIT: THis might make for a good artistic licensing...considering I'd have to change the spotlights on the underside of the saucer...they wouldn't match Ellery's model at all
-
Bump to say EFFIN' YAY!
I've actually got it to where I could use the Glow tutorial by Cord and JB :)
-
Nifty! :yay:
-
Best of luck, show progess mate if avail
-
Well once I get the tutorial downpat I will LOL :D
-
Speculars!!!
-
Purty
-
Well I just figured out I messed up a few things on the HP (for starters the forward dorsal array fires from the opposite side of the ship, making it appear as though it's firing from the secondary hull, as well as the bottom of the saucer firing phasers into the nacelle)
Hopefully Starforce can help clean that bit up. As for now I'm working on scripting the ships into the game, and finishing up the registry textures (I just started on the speculars).
One question though...should I brighten the registries up??? Or keep them black? I think the decals should at least be shiney LOL but that's just me :)
-
The speculars on that render look great

Thanks!! :)

Looks great eclipse... but I wish those impulse engines could be remodeled. They're edges are so sharp that it looks like a couple of plain 3d rectangles were slapped on and then details/textures were added.
Don't get me wrong though, overall, this is one nice Luna!
-
Heh....you know I think the impulse engines are exactly how Tourangeau designed them...I just wish he had designed them with the Sovereign in mind.
However this is Kophjaeger's Luna...not mine.
Model and Textures: Kophjaeger
Cleanup and port to BC: eclipse74569 and EDD_7
Registry numbers: eclipse74569
So no one gets confused :P
-
Bump to let you guys know i'm still waiting on Starforce to get with me on the HP...
In the meantime I'm working to get the Slipstream varient finished and scripted as soon as possible! I'm thankful for Kophjaeger and for EDD_7 to allow me to work with this. And I'm praying you guys will enjoy it :D
I'm actually excited to be doing this!!! LOL :D

Well i orignally only wanted it for thw NanoFX Viewer, and i thought it only fair that the Bridge Commander Community also gets it :) with all that said thank you Eclipse for getting it way past the point i ever could  and huge thanks to Kophjaeger for the permission and unreleased slipstream varient :D cookie to you both.

So....I've managed to fix my problem with the forward dorsal array (mental note: next time don't use spin). Next up is to fix the ventral side arrays so that they're not firing into the nacelle/secondary hull...
Any ideas what I should change the values to? (as I need to learn this on my own...sorry Starforce!)
EDIT: Ok I'll figure it out!!!
EDIT 2: AARRRGH! The ventral arrays are STILL hitting the nacelle :(
-
If I knew anything about HPs, I'd be glad to help...

Reversing directions helped me on both of Normandies, had the same issue ;)
-
Only problem is, it's one single phaser arc...(there's a total of 3) so it fires all around the array. I'm thinking of making two more arcs and just making them a downward angle phaser. Then I can just move the other phaser around to fire where I want it to.
-
Dunno if I got it right but if you have problem with array firing through the hull while it's facing the outside then simply point it into the hull, should work like a charm ;)
-

Not my problem what it is is the ventral saucer phaser is pretty much going through the nacelle.
I haven't had much time to try and fix it lol
-
Slight bump to say I have to buy new batteries for my mouse before I can work on this again LOL I'm running on my Lappy McFailpants (Laptop) right now and I don't want to use it for BC (as it's very old and I can't upgrade the graphics card unfortunately *sigh*)
Once I'm no longer broke (hopefully this weekend) I'll be able to work with it LOL :D
-
actually, I got introduced to a cute little trick called Drivermax for my old thing, and it's been a major improvement, here.
-
Actually I Meant I can't literally change out the graphics card.
-
Actually I Meant I can't literally change out the graphics card.
GOTTA love integrated GFX cards....
-
Yeah if I could switch it out from the crappy intel GFX card to a nVidia one....HELLS yeah I would finish this pack fix the HP's and be done with it LOL Unfortunately it might be saturday before I finish it :(

Your system might have the ability to disable the integrated graphics on your machine within the BIOS. If so, then you can get a separate video card and get a lot more horse power.
I have a couple of pretty decent video cards laying around. If you can disable your integrated graphics, I could work out a deal with you and provide you one.
Let me know.
-
I'll have to research it but I'll let u know
-
look around your staples equivelant. I actually found a couple myself (too bad they're crap)
-
Ok, today I'm going to go get some carpet flea killer for the computer room as well as a new mouse (other one was starting to run hot with new batteries YIPES!!!) once that is done and I can safely go into my computer room [also a nursery since I haven't told anyone yet (except maybe Jimmy [facebook] and another person who's on my facebook page but I can't for the life of me remember their user name here) my wife is 7 months pregnant], I shall have more updates on this :)
-
congrats on the new baby :yay:
-
Congrats Eclipse!
BTW, remember to check if you can disable your built-in video within the BIOS.
-
I did and I can't :( there isn't an option in the BIOS at all for it!
-
Could you provide me with the specific make & model of your system?
-
Gateway 200arc
-
Ok. So, unless you haven't mentioned it before in one of your other posts, I must have missed the memo on the fact that you have a laptop... I was under the impression that you had a desktop and then one of the vid cards I have laying around would've worked great.
Sorry dude. If you're ever in the market for a good desktop for a really good price, let me know. I live in Silicon Valley and you wouldn't believe the amount good stuff I can get my hands on around here. Then, I can set you up.
Cheers
-
Nah, about all I need on my desktop is a good 80 more gigs of HDD Space (And I mean I would like to have a 160gb HD). As for a graphics card for the desktop? Well I wouldn't be able to play Excalibur at the moment, but I can play BC with an acceptable fps lag.
Also...I got my computer room back FTW!!! :D
Now to figure out that damned problem with the ventral saucer side phasers!!!! Would anyone with MPE experience like to help me out here? Starforce seems to be busy as of late and well I've figured a couple of things out without him LOL. I just really need to fix the ventral phasers and the Original varient will be done (just need to finish the registries)
EDIT: And I've talked with Starforce and he's helped me out a bit... let's just hope it works!
-
Well right now I'm waiting on a new jumper to make my old HD a slave drive, then I can work on this project again, shouldn't be too long though!!!
Oh, and I also have to find my Adobe Photoshop disc :S. I just hope it isn't scratched up because I'm not paying 600 dollars for CS5. Mostly due to the fact I don't HAVE 600 dollars *sighs* being poor sucks LOL
EDIT: Side note...ALWAYS check the most unobvious places for things...I'm back and running LOL :D
-
Well, a few mods to the HP to bring out the SlipStream varient and she should be ready for Beta Testing! I haven't finished the registries yet as I've been busy trying to get ready for baby Ava's arrival! But I'd be willing to beta just the ship and HP. Any takers?
-
If it helps you get the mod out, I'll certainly help where possible!
-
Sweet, once I get everything done and updated I'll upload it to my own personal webspace and give you guys the link Via PM!
-
Good God All Mighty I'm back! and I REALLY need to update this LOL.
Starforce has finished the HP as far as I know on the Luna, and all I need to do is finish the damned registries, package her up and Boom goes the dynomite.
-
Can't wait!
-
So since I'm a heckler for not updating LOL I'm still working on the Luna. I have got to find my Photoshop disk and finish her registries :S. that's all I need to do at least for the original variant. The Slipstream variant will need for me to update the current HP and strengthen it a little, as well as adding the slipstream drive to it. All in all I'm HOPING for a fall if not christmas release.
-
Wait, she's modeled and textured and you're thinking it'll take several more months? Dude, FSB Shipyards is here to help if you just say yes. :P
-

Ok rephrase: Kophjaeger's Luna is almost finished :P
And Starforce was helping out but he never knew about the slipstream variant...
My fault! But I WILL PREVAIL!!!
EDIT: I Might ACTUALLY need help with the Slipstream Variant HP...I've been coming back on WLM to talk to SF and each time he's not there LOL
-
good to hear. any pics?
-
Nothing new yet, I'm still working on the registries. So far I've gotten up to Io...
-
EDIT: I Might ACTUALLY need help with the Slipstream Variant HP...I've been coming back on WLM to talk to SF and each time he's not there LOL
you cant implement it?
if you need i can pop it in for you real quick
-
It's not that I can't impliment it, I just haven't had much time recently to do it. LOL I might have a go at it myself :).
Anywhosits, good news also...I found my Max disc and have found my Photoshop disc...THANK HEAVENS I can start working on my TARDIS again!
Edit: Or I can do what dumba$$es do and not back up the file :(
ah well I guess I can start anew on it.
-
Don't suppose autobackup will help?
-
No...unfortunately I've already formatted and reinstalled Windows XP on the old system...I thought i had it backed up somewhere but I can't seem to find it.
Eh, like i said fresh start!
-
bump to say
ANEW
(http://i81.photobucket.com/albums/j216/eclipse74569/anew.jpg)
I realize it's a bit off but I'm planning on fixing it soon!
-
Woooooohoo!! :yay: :yay: :yay:
-
I really look forward to the Luna Class. That is one of my favorite designs.
-
Well I know things have been slow for me for a while now, and it's because real life is a drag....but I'm considering doing online tutorials through the 3ds YouTube channel to see if I can get myself in top shape to model. Right now I am going to continue to work on the TARDIS and I'm planning on bringing a ship design I drew up in high school to life...once I work out kinks etc (as far as scale and drawing up orthos). I'm gonna keep you posted, and I promise this is going to take a LONG time...and my work may end up on Excalibur when that's released. Who knows...I'm also thinking of redoing my texture work on several mods i've done in the past (Namely...the low-poly Nemesis Sovereign by Hawkeye/CG and Steamrunner). I'm hoping I can learn and get started doing what I've always wanted to do...and that's mod this beautiful (yet old) game.
-
The reason why the forum went Kaput, meet Steamie 3.0

Shiny!
Though I'm not quite fond of the placement and size of the outermost escape pods.
Isn't there supposed to be an entire row of similar sized windows beneath them?
[/nitpick]
I really like it otherwise!

Beneath and above the line next to the pods if I recall.
Size of the pods are the same as the original textures I did. I think it's because I made them from scratch that you may be uncomfortable with lol
It could also be the perspective. I am planning on redrawing the black lines though.
I'm still experimenting and learning more about making textures using paths
-
Update: I'm still not happy with the black line LOL but I've added a few things :) Mainly lighting and Panelling.
I got lazy on this one, and used the old PSD files I have. Resized them, sharpened a bit, and duplicated over to the new file.
doesn't look too bad if you ask me :)
-
Looking nice and clean.

Thanks guys, I really am working my tail off on this one :icon_lol: :icon_lol:

Now that I've figured out Normal Mapping....for when I make my announcement :D
-
Bump
-
That front end looks very cool. Never realized it was a grill like that.
-
I don't think it is to be honest. It's supposed to be a front end Shuttlebay if I recall. I just used artistic licensing since we really didn't get a good look in the series.
Same for what I'm gonna do with the bridge area.
-
Well whatever it is. Looks good.
-
Thanks, that means a lot coming from you!
-
That looks awesome so far.
I was able to find one shot on EAS that showed the front in some detail:
(http://i56.photobucket.com/albums/g194/ACESHIGH1/steamrunner-cgi_zpscccb9fme.jpg~original) (http://s56.photobucket.com/user/ACESHIGH1/media/steamrunner-cgi_zpscccb9fme.jpg.html)
it looks like there's some sort of deck or platform in front of the shuttlebays, as well as a bulkhead separating them.
I carefully went over it and enhanced the lines that I could make out. I'm not 100%, since it doesn't look symmetrical, but it is definitely suggestive of some features that most Steamrunner models are missing.

-
What you've got there looks better anyway.
-
My apologies for bumping an 8 year old thread, but I wanted to see if eclipse managed to get anywhere with this old project? I realize I never got around to actually helping out on it LOL
-
Truth be told, no. I haven't even attempted to yet...
and to be fair, I had completely forgotten about it
-
Merged as this is gonna be my one stop shop for all my mods!!! Including the Continental Class.
And also an update on the Steamrunner. I haven't had much time with this due to Triad Anime Con here in Greensboro. BUT I managed to work on it some tonight.
-
Looking good hope to see it release
Everyone has left and no one is doing or releasing anything
-
best SR!
-
Of course! Rick Knox did a fine job on the original model. I just spiced it up a bit!!

I didn't see this I'm sorry, my modeling skills are limited...so I wouldn't know even how to change that.
I do like it how it is though!
UPDATE: I've ported the model into NIF. Now it's just finishing the textures and speculars
-
No real updates as I've been exhaustingly busy at work. But I have some time tomorrow I might work on the Steamy!
-
Update: Reworking the aztec textures, so it's looking a bit bare, but I decided not to remodel the bridge and go with the original textures.
-
Oh wow man, didn't realize you were working on an update!
If it helps at all, Eaglemoss updated the original Steamrunner model for their starships collection. The front shuttle bay doors are gone for some reason, but there does appear to be some rear doors which would give the ship a flight deck that goes all the way through the saucer. There's additional texture detail as well.
Figured some extra reference material never hurts :)
For some reason I can't upload attachments so I'll just post the Memory Alpha link: http://memory-alpha.wikia.com/wiki/Film_studio_models#Steamrunner_class

It's cool, but the thing is I'm sticking with the original P81 model. I'm not going for complete accuracy here. And once I get more of the hang of 3d modeling I might attempt my own version. For now though I'm sticking with the original one that I was working on :)
-
P81 is soooooo 2003... lol :P
but you are making it look good and really new/updated!
-

Well considering I put on modeled Phaser arrays and torpedo bays lol. It’s the only model update I’ve done 😂😂
-
Oh hush dead thread warning, it's my thread therefore I can post if i wanna LMAO!
I'm still around, and still working on the Steamrunner. I can't get the aztec panels right (they're not curving like I want to!) so I'm gonna work those from scratch.
I'm also testing those aztecing skills on another retexture/partial remap that I'm working on. I have yet to hear from Kophjager on releasing this but I've been retexturing his Luna Class, I do not plan on releasing this until I hear from him personally!!! I want to see what the class would look like with a Sovereign Class style paintjob! I've mapped a couple of other things around too so that it looks good. Here's what I've done so far!
I've mapped the ID to include escape pod texture since the escape pods are modeled on!
I've completely redid the textures, and I'm basing them on Wiley's Nemesis Sovereign class.
I'm giving her my own feel for Aztec Paneling, basing it on the Ancient Font Type.
I've given her extra windows and I plan on rearranging a few windows (most notaby on the Catamarans, as they're bothering me a bit)
I've even textured on a new deflector for her.
Here's a couple of pics! Let me know what you think!!
-
finally!!!
there is only one Luna class model out there available - thank you for taking this on dude!!!
i LOVE your deflector, the "standard" one just looks so cheesy somehow... yours makes more sense there as such as far... hell, a blue sovereign deflector would also make sense, IMO...
-
he's not the only one recycling a P81 model. unfortunately, I got stuck on the windows, took a break, and got hit with spring chores. and now my second job started up, which means working 6 days a week...
it's amazing what revamping a texture can do for an older model, isn't it? I might steal the gradient idea for those windows...
-
I might steal the gradient idea for those windows...
If you’re talking about mine. It’s the bubble pattern overlay maxed out to the highest setting.
-

and probably Photoshop :banghead:
looks like it's "pull-offable" with a standard gradient thing, though.

Not just probably, definitely!
-
Just a bump to say Koph have his blessing lol now to release this alongside the new Steamrunner re-retexture!
-
Your Luna Class?
:yay: :Metal:
can you whip a special one with a blue Sovereign-like deflector, sort of a totally noncanon "alternative" (aka personal request :D)
yay ship requests!
