Title: 2012 Star Trek Co-op for 360, PS3 and PC
Post by: 086gf on June 03, 2011, 03:35:40 PM
Takes place after the last movie and you either play as Kirk or Spock.

Quote
This morning Paramount Digital Entertainment announced they developing a new video game titled "Star Trek" for Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, and PC in 2012. The game, due in 2012, promises an original story and "unprecedented co-op experience," with players taking on the roles of Kirk and Spock.

The new Star Trek game features an original stand alone story which "continues the adventure" of the 2009 Star Trek movie. According tot he release the game is "filled with action-packed combat as Kirk and Spock must work together to stop a legendary enemy race bent on conquering the galaxy." The story is being developed by BAFTA award winner and God of War writer, Marianne Krawczyk, in collaboration with the writer/producers of the new Star Trek films, Roberto Orci and Alex Kurtzman.
Quote
Star Trek challenges the boundaries of co-op gameplay with a galactic adventure that gamers and fans have never experienced. Working closely with the Star Trek filmmaking team throughout development, the game is sure to deliver AAA production values, a wide variety of gameplay and all the action you would expect from the hit franchise. This will be the definitive Star Trek gaming experience.
The game is under development by acclaimed Ontario-based developers Digital Extremes (Bioshock 2, Unreal Tournament, Dark Sector, The Darkness II), working closely with Bad Robot, K/O Paper Products and Damon Lindelof and published by Paramount Digital Entertainment through a license with CBS Consumer Products.

Sounds like a triple-A title to me.

It's about friggin' time! I hope it's something we can get swept up in. Might not be the best fodder for modding communities like ours, but we need a decent story driven Trek game that lives up to modern gaming standards.

Hopefully the touted coop combat will make sense within the story, and will be supported by logical and fun non-combat gameplay. I also hope flying the Enterprise is on the feature list at launch!

Or it could be an expanded version of something like a BC/EF Hybrid, where you get to command and fight through the ship?

It could well be the new Final unity?

Not by the sounds of "Coop combat"... I'm thinking it'll be something along the lines of Army of Two. The concept art image supports the idea of this being a shooter.

We can but hope that it's more than that.

Hmmm...while Kirk has a standard phaser, Spock seems to have ripped off a Covenant Plasma Pistol. :eek

Honestly, I'm not big on shooters, but I'll give it the benefit of the doubt once E3 hits.

Plasma rifle, but yeah, I know what you mean.

Sweet, looks like it'll be Elite Force but with actual main characters as protagonists! :yay:

Personally, though it looks to be as much of an FPS as Star Trek looked like a flashy action movie (which was a lot), I'm quite excited.  The graphics look awesome too!

And, since Kirk and Spock will most definitely have to be voice acted, we get to hear more of their trademark banter than we got in Star Trek (2011)!

Graphics?  What graphics?  We're not seeing any graphics, and won't until the game premieres at E3 next week.

That screenshot looks like it's in some sort of game engine.  I happen to think that the final product will look like that.

I'm pretty sure that's concept art, it looks aliased because it was resized badly.

Spock's helmet and back have visible polygon edges, and the tube thingies on his back look like someone turned anisotropic filtering off.  Pretty sure that's at least rendered in 3d.

I'm having a really hard time NOT seeing that weapon Spock is holding as a Covenant plasma rifle . . . please, for the love of all things Trek, do NOT let this game be a crossover of Halo and Trek.  That would ruin my trust in game designers of this generation. :eek

That's why I think that's merely concept art.  Because I don't play Halo and the first thing I noticed was that looked like a Covenant Plasma Rifle.  I don't think they could get away with that.  Especially since this isn't being made by Microsoft or Bungie.

BTW, that shot of them space diving towards the airlock on the side of the engineering hull...how big were those doors figured to be considering how big the Enterprise was supposed to be?  It seems to me like they realized their goof and shrunk the ship...at least, that's how it looks to me.

Smaller than that of the refit/A since thats for one man escape pods and not for dozen person shuttles. Though the new 1701 is only a few dozen meters larger(366) than the refit/A(305).

I thought that of the size issue too, does that mean the shuttle bay would look more like a shuttle bay? What if there's fighting in engineering? Arrr too much variables.  :hithead:

Picard told Lily in First Contact, that the ship has 24 decks. In a later scene during the SAME movie, a security officer says "The Borg control decks 26 upto 11", and in Nemesis, the ship all of a sudden had 29+ decks, while maintaining relatively the same outward appearance.

Also it was more like 78 in STV.

I liked Star Trek Encounters.  I also like STO, but I haven't played it much...mainly cause I get ticked off when I can't pause a game and it kicks me out if my attention wanders or something.

It will tie in with the second movie so playing this game will make watching the second movie even better just like reading countdown did for the first. Also Bob Orci explains how this could easily be considered canon much like Countdown.

Quote
Kat: We?re both Star Trek fans. What do you think goes into the perfect Trek story?

Orci: I think all fans know that one of the perfect stories is Wrath of Kahn . It was a perfect Trek story because it had a great science fiction plot but it also maximized the friendship and the family feeling among all the characters.

That was the first movie I saw. It was the perfect Trek story because, to meet everyone at the height of their friendship, and the height of their knowing each other and loving each other. To me the perfect story has a great sci-fi concept, but also covers the personality of the characters that we know in the most real way. Whether it?s Spock as Mr. Logic, Kirk as Mister Leader, or Sulu as Mr. Help the Crew, everyone is their best self. It?s good sci-fi and good family.

Kat: So if Wrath of Khan is the perfect Trek story, does this mean that you?re going to kill Spock in the game?

Orci: In the game? Maybe. Both in the game and in the sequel that we?re doing ? and by the way we consider them both very seriously together ? we know that audiences are thinking of it as Star Trek II of the new universe, so we are aware that of preconceptions about who might die and what the sacrifices are. And we?re aware of those things as we generate the story for both the game and the movie.

Orci: So I would say that what?s going to be different about this game is that it?s going to fit into our new universe. It?s going to fit into the Star Trek that we were lucky enough to generate, and it?s going to be a story that happens within that universe and that story is not going to be fan fiction. It?s going to be a story that fits into our movies, and fits into between the first two movies. The things that we are thinking about for this game very much fall into what can happen between the two movies, and that?s exciting for me as a fan.

Kat: So when I watch the second movie. will I be rewarded in some way for having played the game?

Orci: Absolutely, that?s exactly the point. We would not allow a game to go out if it was not somehow a part of the continuity.

Orci: True fans will tell you that canon is only what?s filmed. I?m not an authority on what is canon. However, I will tell you that this may be the first game that falls within the parameters of the people who are in charge of canon for now; the ?supreme court,? as we call ourselves because we are the ones in charge of Star Trek for now. We won?t be in charge forever, but for right now we?re deciding what canon is, so I can tell you this is the first time where the game itself is generated by the people who are deciding canon and we generated the game to fit within canon.

The red shirts got tired of dying so they commandeer the ship.  That would make a great story. :P

Seriously, though, it's good to know that the 2012 Star Trek production crew are in on the game.  I hate video games that are just an adaptation of a movie's plot, those are the worst.

Which reminds me, if you make a video game and a movie side by side, then perhaps you can saturate the game with action and allow the movie a bit more breathing room for the characters and story.  If I ever make a movie, I'd keep that in mind.

While it is all well and good that we are getting at least a half-decent Trek game (ST: Online blew chunks, and ST: Legacy blew klingon balls  :eek ), I'm hoping that it'll have something for older fans of pre-J.J. Abrams Trek.

For example:
Some form of preorder DLC, relating back to the ENT, TOS, TNG, DS9 or even VOY eras would make a lot of fans happy, but that may be asking too much.

STBC is still the greatest Trek game of all time, followed closely by EF. Lets hope that this new game takes third place in the best Trek games catagory. ;)

(PS: I wonder if Spock used the Vulcan Nerve Pinch on the Grunt before stealing its Covenant plasma pistol. ;)  )

Ahh, shut up!  I got news!

The game, like the movie, has been delayed to 2013, but is now going to be co-produced and distributed by Namco-Bandai.  This is very good news since that sounds like more of a "buy it in the store" game than a download game.  And it says for "all major home consoles and PC", so hopefully that means that they're looking at a release for the Wii U as well.

Consoles and pc? Guess I'll be giving that one a miss then unless something changes.
I don't want to play something that's just a rough port of something coded for 6 year old consoles!  If I did I already have ST legacy anyway.

Funny.  I'm going to give it a go BECAUSE it looks like a Mass Effect "clone".  I put that in quotes because Mass Effect riffs off of Star Trek so much anyways.

Besides...I'm sure they'll give us a better ending than our choice of colored explosions. :funny

Huh, game isn't out until next year but Steam already has registry entries for it as of the 18th

http://marlamin.com/cdr/view.php?pagenum=2&type=app

I'm assuming thats it.

Could be another Star Trek game, but the entries are usually specific about the name.

Heh maybe the game is done but they're waiting for next year to release it with the movie.
The game has been known for almost a year while and the first trailer came out around a year ago as well.

Well, supposedly the PSN was going to get a "prologue" of some kind, maybe they decided to not make it just PSN-exclusive and the prologue'll be out by the end of the year?

Spock uses whats called a Combat Mind Meld that allows him to control a baddie and make him do the fighting.

Also some new concept art and ingame pics.

Just read this in a preview of the game: "Tangible support also arrived from Paramount Pictures, who supplied the team with film assets, a full sound library and a full spec sheet for the USS Enterprise.
The latter is of particular interest because in letting us amble around freely aboard the Enterprise, Digital Extremes has the opportunity to show us the grand old girl from never-before seen angles."

If that means free roaming the corridors of the JJ-verse Big-E, I'm in.  Here's hoping!

Too bad Elite Force 2 and Jedi Knight 2 never got another game (both were my favs back in 2002/2003)

p.s. I never count Jedi Academy as a true sequel to JK2JO as it was a simple, flat, buggy game with lame characters ... even Kyle was dumbed down ...

The multiplayer was much better though, which redeems it in my opinion.  And the story wasn't that bad.  One feature I liked was the chance to choose where you were going.  And Kyle's lack of depth can be explained that he's not a main character anymore.

But on topic, I'm not going to be too picky about this game.  We should be thankful that CBS/Paramount does anything with Star Trek these days.

I do have to say, I am so glad that Paramount has given them stuff to use and the writers are on board.  Plus the basic action gameplay really reminds me of Mass Effect in a really good way.

Indeed, though I'm sure Trek's ending won't be a choice between 3 different colored laser beams. :P Yes, I did like ME3's ending, but that doesn't mean I can't make fun of it.

Also, I have to say that the screenshot of Kirk on the bridge really captures how Kirk sits in the big chair.  They definitely know what they're doing in that regard.

That shot looks kind of...meh.  Graphically speaking.  I think it's going to be massively constrained by being a console game and as such the pc version will look meh at best.

I do hope it's reasonably moddable and not like the ME games*!

I'm really not sure what to think.  The voice acting sounds a bit off, the graphics seem underwhelming, the gameplay seems ME3 like (no bad thing) but most of all...
The bridge looks like it's suffering from a case of STO-itis.

I'll probably be waiting a while before I get this one!

As for it sounding off, I think that it's simply because us old timers are used to Shatner, Nemoy, Takai, and Doohan providing the voices.

I'm liking this game!
You know what's brilliant about that bridge screenshot?  You can actually see the bridge.  The lighting is dimmed and all the detail pops out!  I sure hope we get to see softer lighting like that in the next movie.

As long as the game has a strong art style I don't really mind if it's a little lower-res than the hardcore graphical games.  Mind you guys they have until next year to polish everything up.  And we already got an amazing shot that wraps around the enterprise and goes into the bridge just like the movie, that impressed me.

Have to say, I agree with ShaunKL 100%. The lens flares in the movie certainly detracted somewhat from the aesthetics of the bridge, but I rather liked the design. And this co-op game look really cool I think. Not sure about the revamped "Gorn" look thou.

It's better than the old.  I also imagine there will be different classes of Gorn.  These fast and furious ones are probably going to turn into the cannon fodder.  I expect there will be large two meter tall ones that move slowly and will throw extremely large crap at you.  Think like STO.

To be honest it sounds like they're just reading lines from a script, bored out of their wits.

The wrap around shot of the ent which then zoomed in on the bridge impressed me though.  I hope they dump the nasty sounding "ping" noise you hear as you go around the ship..

This one looks good. Legacy was generic space ship shooter and even then the bugs took out all the fun in mindless shooting. The developer for this one isn't using the Armada engine to make a 360 game.

If the actor is completely new to voice-acting or actually phoning it in that can degrade the performance.

New interview: http://www.gametrailers.com/videos/wg8slm/star-trek-gc-2012--gorn-and-enterprise-interview

Reveals a lot of nice tidbits including space combat controlling the Enterprise herself and calling down an airstrike while on the ground.  Definitely cementing that the biggest and best weapon in a Starfleet captain's arsenal is his ship.

"Airstrikes" in the form of a phaser blast from the orbiting starship is super cool. But I hope it's restricted to OUTDOOR environments only. Nothing worse than the "Orbital flashlight" (Orbital Strike) in STO, breaking immersion by having it function INDOORS. Honestly, I rather look forward to this game (and the movie)

Well we're engineers, maybe we developed a way to phase our phasers through shields....and hull....and several kilometers of earth.....to hit a specific floor....and emerge from a point blank shot completely unscathed.

That said, I do love calling down the thunder regardless of whether or not it's the USS Enterprise or the USS Queen Clarion taking the shot. Maybe it will be like the Hammer of Dawn from Gears of War where it's only available for certain parts so it never looses its appeal. (and never fires indoors)

Who knows, maybe we'll finally see a starship execute general order 24 or at least get close to executing it.

Sometime last year it was mentioned that playing this helps your viewing experience for Into Darkness. Though recent news seems to have gone back on that but im sure there will be something directly connected.

Isn't the station in the game Starfleet built and operated? Maybe they find Carol Marcus there and that shot of here screaming in the trailers is a flashback? Makes since due to how horrific it seems. It clearly isn't a normal kind of scream but more of a "holy freaking $#!% im about to get eaten" kind of scream. Shes gotta be witnessing people getting owned by Gorn.

So, I'm thinking maybe the North American PC release of this game will be Steam only, Amazon.ca and Amazon.com don't carry it, yet the European Amazon's do.

Also when ever I got to the games site 'startrekgame.com' it takes me to the UK site http://www.startrekgame.com//intl/uk/

Also the composer for the film has done the music for the game as well.

Hopefully it plays well, but I'm going to reserve judgement until this actually comes out and has had a month or two to stew.
Who knows? Maybe it'll be just about moddable enough to put in better textures or the devs might do a bethesda and give us PC gamers a high res pack?

Textures don't look that low-res to me.  The uniforms could be better, but as long as everything feels solid and locked down I don't think you'll notice much while you're trying to neck-pinch a gorn.

(It's been pointed out to me that if a game is good (Halo 4 for example), reviews will be released early.  If the game is middling or bad (ACIII or Colonial Marines), the reviews come out the same day as the game.  Let's hope Star Trek comes out with early reviews.)

Well, it's not the textures themselves, it's just that the whole thing looks a bit naff to be honest.  I only mooted the high res texture pack as an idea, as being a console port it will likely have had to be squashed down to fit on consoles.  Take skyrim for example, the stock textures for the game range from as low as 256x256 (Approx) up to around 1024x1024.  Add the high res pack on the pc version and it will take pretty much everything up to 2048.  Okay, so I've been spoiled by PC gaming and mods!

I think that this upcoming game doesn't look great due to quite a few moments of the footage we've seen where I literally went "urgh".  I think they're going to use a lot of the whizzbang flashy effects to try and cover for that.

Too be fair, from what I understand Skyrim had bad texturing in several places (because of such a large open world probably).  Console games like Halo, Mass Effect 1 and 2, and Red Dead Redemption show that you can have good high-res textures in a console game.

I will agree that Star Trek looks a little loosey goosey.  I'm still going to have fun with it though.  :D

I wonder what JJ did with the Andorians?

Lots of screenshots and info.  Someone here needs to get the PC version so we can rip the Enterprise and shuttlecraft models out. :funny  I like the shot with the shuttlebay, definitely shows that they remember that there ARE two shuttle types on the Enterprise in this universe.

Agreed, BUT that kind of shuttle was the Galileo in the comic version of "The Galileo Seven" so it actually makes sense.

No, they don't look bad at all.  I really hope the game is good, Trek deserves a good game on the store shelves.  Plus, it'll be nice to walk around the Enterprise in between missions, assuming that they take a Mass Effect approach to it.  And I hope that we can actually fly the Enterprise outside of the space battle missions.  I doubt it, but I can always hope.

Okay, that vid makes the gfx seem mediocre at best.  Hopefully it's just bad compression (had it set to 1080 still looked poor).  I also noticed some stuttering/jerkiness around the time the gorn was beamed about the E and went crazy.

Captain Obvious... this might have been the Console version they were showing... so of course the gfx is going to look dated :P

Even so, the gfx won't be that much better on a pc given that this is likely to be a console port rather than a purpose built pc game. Just look at (unmodded) skyrim!
Compare that vid to the promo screens and tell me which looks better.  When I saw those last promo screens I thought "hey that's actually rather nice".  Cynical me thinks the devs took those on a top end pc and crazy high res and downsampled the images to whatever res those shots are.

With any luck however, we'll be able to get *some* kind of modability out of this one.  At the very least, the pc should run this better than a console!

Post by: Bones on April 25, 2013, 10:49:12 AM
Aliens Colonial Marines ;)

I've just played through some missions solo and in co-op and it's pretty damn fun game if you ask me :) a proper Star Trek game finally, graphics are cool tho space fights are tedious and shallow, at some point you don't even know what's happening and for me space battles are a bit too colorful, just too vivid for my taste :P

AI is plain stupid, not even remotely as good as in Mass Effect 3 or Far Cry 3, I would rather compare AI to Aliens Colonial Marines.

Playing solo isn't that bad, tho AI controlled player is what you woul expect from it - stupid - get's stuck behing objects, takes sweet time to get into ordered location, sometimes even runs straight to the enemy and get shot :D So co-op with friend is the best option ;)

I'm not too fond of some levels designs too, I got stuck in one mission because I took ladder down, while holding power cell, couldn't get back with it to upper level (ladders only) and that lead me to restart whole mission (wasn't too long tho)

All in all, so far it's the best Trek game since Elite Force II :) even feels like this could be EF3

Indeed ;) also, some rooms look similiar in design, even those black/grey/white suits look like hazard suits

Been playing some more time and the voice acting is strange, sometimes it's good but then there are dialogs that are plainly boring and so are the voices... not to mention mouth animations, they look a little bit '05-'06

but those are all technicall details and little bits, overall it's a really nice Trek game ;)

The best Trek moment I had was when the first you-know-what came at us out of the turbolift.  My buddy and I both fired at it with stun by instinct instead of kill, then incapacitated it with a nerve pinch.  Good times.

I can't really recommend playing it solo, because it's Daikatana all over again, instead of a help from the other player, I had to constantly watch over him, takes all the fun from the gameplay ... but then again a random co-op player isn't fun at all because some players minds do not work as you would think  :funny sometimes they are dumber than AI (which brings back memories of a co-op mission in Battlefield 3 - fire from sky or something like that - when I got gunners seat in Viper and the pilot was a total noob and couldn't even fly straight  :funny )

apart from those small quirks and bugs, this game is really growing on me :)

I've finished the game and I'm not sure what to think, I could compare it to the most recent Mass Effect 3 DLC (the Citadel), ST is just a little bit longer but still too short, nevertheless it was fun, just felt like a good action packed episode in a series.

I finished this yesterday, and I loved it. I thought the plot was great (one of the things is a bit overused but it let them be much more creative with enemy variations), and the dialoge was mostly great (Urban didn't seem too bothered, but Pine, Quinto and Pegg were great). I thought the gameplay was pretty decent. The rooms had multiple routes that can be used if you wanted to be stealthy (which was immensely difficult, but fine as it was optional), I thought the levels were nice and varies - the cave level was a nice break in the action, plus it isn't Star Trel without the cave. I also loved the arena part - with nods to the classic series and controlling a certain fight.

There were some bugs, but they were occasional. 12 hours was also a decent length for an action game (it's also pretty cool how the game length matched the story length). I loved seeing various sections of the ship, too. Sickbay was nicely designed and massive, the turbolift section was great, and I liked the engineering they had in it (speaking of that, I wonder if it's the design for Into Darkness - it's much better than the Budwiser Bottling Plant). It actually felt like a massive ship designed for spending a lot of time on it's own.

Even if you weren't a Star Trek fan, this is far from being a terrible game (like some sites are saying it is).

Half of it was kinda good.  The other half was f-ing abysmal.

EDIT: Got my copy from GameStop today, along with a free KREO TOS Enterprise.

EDIT 2: Well, liking it for the most part, kind of disappointed in the whole "explore never before seen parts of the Enterprise" promise.  I was kind of hoping for something like Mass Effect where you could walk around parts of the ship in between missions.  Did like the shuttlebay interior and someone needs to get the Steam version and try to rip those shuttles.

Really?  I thought it was a great place for officer's quarters.  They don't have to run the entire saucer section to get to their post, especially if any of them are on the bridge.  Now SPOCK'S quarters...that was oddly placed.

Simple solution to the Gorn/other galaxy thing is that the Gorn in TOS and STO are only one of the many Gorn species we see in the game, and that one had developed a niche in our galaxy a long time ago.  The alternate universe Gorn are the modern descendants of the Gorn empire talked about in STO's backstory.  Just my theory.

I'd give it a 6 or 7 out of 10.  If you enjoyed Kirk and Spock in the new movie, that might be enough for you to enjoy it.  The gameplay leaves a bit to be desired, but otherwise the story, cast, and music is all pretty good.

Wow, thank goodness the warp core didn't just look like beer vats this time. :funny

Ran into ANOTHER f***ing glitch, this time while trying to get Chekov's sorry butt to Sickbay.  One of the infected red-shirts was INVINCIBLE.  I couldn't stun him, couldn't kill him, couldn't do anything.  Kirk should remember that man for the next landing party.

The rec room on the refit Enterprise was in the saucer rim, the officer's quarters were well above that.  And yes, Spock's quarters are where he and Jim are having their match of 3D Chess when the game begins.

Isn't the rec room that structure directly under the bridge on the refit? So the crew quarters would have been below that.

Just finished...what an abrupt ending lol.  Still, not a bad game for what it is.  It could've used some more polish and a bit more exploration of the Enterprise herself(the way it sounded in previews, I thought the ship would be like a hub between missions like the SSV Normandy), but all in all, pretty decent for a licensed game.  The glitches and uninspired gameplay(seriously, it wouldn't have hurt to borrow a BIT more from Mass Effect) keep it from being great.  Ranks around the same as the Ghostbusters game in my book, maybe slightly lower.

What's your final verdict on this then guys? Steam has it on sale for ?10 so I thought I might give it a shot. Did any of the issues get patched in the end?
If not, I can deal with Skyrim being a buggy mess so I can probably deal with this

Crappy game.  Fun if you're a Star Trek fan.  Devilishly funny with a co-op partner.

Played it once, haven't really gone back through.  It's alright.  The AI sucks and the glitches are annoying.  Especially that one I had with the immortal red-shirt.

Haven't finished it yet. It's not the greatest game. Just a bit of fun. Story seems good, graphics could have been better. Gameplay could have done with just an extra bit of work. I'd give it about a 7/10.

I bought it for about ?2 something from steam not long ago.  Only just installed it and have made it to the segment on new vulcan.
Weird thing is, every now and then when I stun and take down an enemy, I get a really weird black screen popping up with the words "STAR TREK" (sic) in really low resolution, looking rather like something fresh from a commodore 64.
Any ideas?

Maybe you've somehow opened the games console?

I played through the game this past week. Really enjoyed it, especially seeing the inside of the Enterprise (even if it didn't really make sense window wise). Thought the story was good too.
Didn't run into many glitches, but I do think the hacking mini games were used waaayyyyy too much.
Not sure why the game has gotten so much flak to be honest :idk:

No, it's not that.  I can hear the game still going on around me as this pop up is interrupting the visuals.  It's bloody annoying, but it tends to go away if I pause and un-pause the game.

Tbh, I don't think much of the story so far, but I haven't gotten too far into the game yet.
That said, I can definitely see why it's taken so much flak.  The game just doesn't seem very polished.  You can tell it's a quick 'rush job' to get a product out of the door.  Game play wise it's almost exactly like mass effect, but lacks the polish that game seemingly received.

Graphically, it's been a real let down. Just like I thought it would be when I saw those screenshots someone posted in here a while back.  Again, it's just a lack of polish and the devs tried to hide it behind a mass of flashy effects, lens flares and over exaggerated DOF effects.  Everything just seems a bit rough...

Btw, how the hell do you do the hacking minigames? It doesn't explain them at all.  There's no real hint at how to do it that I can see.  I generally just tell spock to do it, but there are parts where you don't want to do that as he will blindly charge into the firing line of a turret to hack it, instead of doing it from cover.
That's a big issue with the game, it doesn't really explain much outside of one or two things in the tutorials.

Mass Effect and polish aren't two words I'd keep in the same sentence.  I wonder what the game would've been like if it'd been launched on its original release date... a year earlier than when it did end up launching.

You have a point, but at least those games look and feel well put together.  I'm going to give ST a chance by running it to the end though.

To each their own, I tend to be fairly easy going on games as long as I have fun but I can see where you're coming from ;)

Personally, the graphics of a game never bother me as long as I can see what's going on. Though I was very impressed with the likeness of Chris Pine and to a lesser extent the other crew members. The Enterprise was pretty as well. That's always a plus in my eyes.

Damn right about the lack of instructions for hacking. Took me bloody ages to get through the first door on New Vulcan lol!

Have to say, the soundtrack is brilliant, definitely the best thing about the game. I loved the new variations on the main theme and the way it popped in for some of the more heroic moments.

I've haven't gotten to play it again since my first go-round(currently lent to a friend).  I do agree that the music in the game was really great, listening to Seiter's soundcloud up there it really does put me back into the game.  Michael Giachinno's early work was in video games, so that helps explain how he and his team could take the themes from the movie and work them into the game really well.

Does anybody know where steam puts the saves for the game? Going to un-install to free up some space, but want to back up my progress in case I ever decide to re-install.
No sign of it in 'my games' :idk:

No idea.  I uninstalled it after I got frustrated once too often by the game.  Wish I could get a refund to be honest.

I've been playing on Hard to grab achievements, not that difficult at all but playing with a friend is definitely the best experience.  The AI partner is hilarious.
