I know we have some old school fans on this board, time to see just how many! Let battle commence!
-
ugh I don't see the point....
-
Oi, go be an old, cynical fart somewhere else! What's this you're on about pat?
-
Just a simple field test. There was some grumbling about 'too many Connies,', so I wanted to see if Connies ARE what the people want.
I figured if I post one pic of a Sov & one of a Connie, then people will start arguing over which is better-looking, and by extension which century is better, 23rd or 24th...
Kind of a stupid post, but I could't think of anyting better to do, it's a few days until my vacation...

*grumble grumble* :D

An argument is one thing I'd like to avoid... We all have our fav ships no need to argue about it...
(though arguments are known to pop up now and then... can't always stop them.)
-
I was searching for a video I saw once of all the captains duking it out, but I found this instead. The graphics are amazing to say the least.
-
eh that's images taken from Star Wreck.... crazy graphics for a comedy movie.
-
EAS Backgammon :D
-
I'm a Galaxy class fan myself, or at least that's what my renders have featured a lot lately.
-
My favorite canon ship would have to be the Sov. The earliest Trek I remember was First Contact. I was four when that came out, fond memories.
However, my favorite ship in Trek canon or non-canon would have to be DJ Curtis's Enterprise F. Love at first sight with her, graceful curves, beautiful and big deflector, and keeps all the sleekness of the Sovereign while giving a throwback to the D's curves. :drink:

oh brother... i had just turned 20 lol :P
-
Galaxy Class fan myself, a Constellation Class is a close second
-
Canon- Mogai Class Warbird
Non-canon- Belknap Refit
-
canon: Constellation class. :D (didn't see that one coming, eh?) It's followed closely by Excelsior refit (Ent-B, Lakota etc)
non-canon: Coeur de Lion, Yamamoto battleship, Galaxy X.

Constellation class? Interesting. I've always hated that one.
-
why? is it because it could spank galaxy in a simulated battle? or because it was yet another TMP vessel that survived through dominion war?

Old old man :P *ducks*

Nothing against the ship, I just thought the design looked so stupid with the sets of nacelles at different heights in relation to the saucer.
-
what do you mean diff heights... they are the same...

-
I dunno I always liked them since I seen it, and I'm not a fan of TMP ships or most quad nacelle ships, this one just seems right when ever I look at it

*pssht* Cleanup in Lionus's pants... *pssht*

Moving away...
Does anyone really like or really dislike the Excelsior? I've always just kinda thought 'meh'. :idk:
-
I love her, but if there was one thing I didn't like, it would be the neck. Is there a good explanation for those ridges? Also, it looks a bit thin to me from the side, which is weird since it's not.
-
I love the deflector/engineering hull from the front but hate the underside of the saucer
-
Lovin the Excelsior Class!
What about the underside of the saucer bothers you?
The only thing that bugs me about it is the shuttlebay in that big opening in the rear of the engineering hull. The most logical place, in my opinion is the tail between the nacelles, but it's in that big opening. Maybe that's an okay place to put it, but why not close off that whole section? :coffee:
-
I'd have to say Galen's "Vers. 1.0" of the Legacy-Class.
-
I'd totally second the legacy class! Damn beautiful ship!!!!!!

The color scheme w/ the turquoise bugs me, come to think of it so do the nacelle pylons
-
To me the standard Excelsior is the perfect starship design. Looks good from every angle and is well balanced.
-
I'm indifferent to the Excelsior now. I used to like it but it's been way overused.
-
it's been way overused.
How so?
-
How so?
Look at about 50 episodes of TNG, DS9, and about 10 episodes of Voyager to find your answer... :dontcare:
-
Not really, it was in 13 TNG, nearly every DS9, and only 2 Voy.
-
It was in more I'm positive. Either way I think it's been overused but to each his own.
-
According to Memory Alpha:
Appearances
This list contains 60 items (show all ? hide all)
* Star Trek films: (5)
* TNG: (17)
* DS9: (31)
* VOY: (6)
* ENT: "Shockwave" (computer display)

what about Connie and Galaxy? talk about overused.. :P :funny

I think we can excuse the main settings of the shows :P
-
Uh huh, how about the umpteen Galaxys in DS9? If memory serves, only six were built? one destroyed by JemHadar, one blown up by that virus.. that leaves four.
-
there were more than 6 Galaxy's ever built... more like 20....
The Enterprise was one of the first 4 built.

If I remember correctly it was originally six built and six additional space frames that could be "filled out" if needed, which obviously happened in the Dominion War. And this wasn't even established in canon, I think it was from a tech manual. Either way who cares!? In my opinion the Excelsior was overused what is wrong with me having that opinion? The Galaxy (excluding the regular Ent-D appearances) wasn't seen as often as the Excelsior anyways.
-
I forgot to mention the Xenon-Class as one of my favorites.
-
One thing I would like to point out is I never seen a bad angle of the Galaxy class, everyother ship has bad viewing angles, don't get me wrong lots of ST ships are interesting and/or pretty to look at, but the galaxy class looks good no matter how you look at it. Its just a good looking ship period
-
I have to disagree, she is top heavy which makes certain viewing angles strange. She looks best from below either looking aft or forward.
-
For me it depends on which version of the Galaxy-class I'm looking at. The four-foot models has one or two bad angles but I haven't really seen one on the six-footer (or the CGI's used on DS9/VOY/ENT that are based on the six-footer).

I can't tell the difference...

I can't tell the difference...
The top image is the six-foot model, the bottom is the four-foot. The biggest differences are the deflector, and if you go to Memory Alpha or just google up some aft images there are some differences in the impulse engine on the stardrive. There's a lot of smaller differences too but I believe those are the two big ones.

ya same here... i never bothered comparing and nitpicking the two, and unless someone pointed out the exact differences, id prolly not take notice...
-
I can see the difference and I have to agree the 5 footer looks better all together
-
I can see the difference and I have to agree the 6 footer looks better all together
fixed ;) they never made a 5 footer lol *runs*
I like em both actually... the 4 footer looks good (I like the bulkiness of the 4 foot it seems stronger) and would be even better with 6 foot detail.
(that's why I like DJ's Galaxy)
-
I like the 4ft better.
-
Is it just me or does the other one have thicker saucer edge? :lostit:
-

yeah the 4 foot model has wider sensor pallets so it makes the edges thicker.
-
I prefer the 6 foot model. It looks smoother.
-
the deflector and engineering section on the 4fter look more narrow than the 6 fter
-

Including the neck.
-
uhm...to me they look narrower on the six footer (top picture)...
The Galaxy has always been my favorite ship. The Sovereign coming in a close second.
-
The intrepid was always a really nice looking ship. It looked very TNG and always looked like it was going fast even while standing still
-
The Intrepid is a funny class, I get two different impressions of her depending if I look at her from the top or the bottom
-
I never liked the Intrepid
-
I only like the variant with the ballpit in it.
