For now I'm using the Last Unicorn Games ICON ruleset, mainly because that's what was easiest for me to get when I was starting out.  I've been meaning to check out STA, but those books are kinda pricey.

You're welcome to use the same character if you want, but to give the newcomers a fair shot we'll be starting off on a new ship.
