Title: Good News For DS9 and VOY Remastered?
Post by: ShaunKL on May 10, 2013, 03:08:04 PM
Robert Bonchune says he has all the CG work his company did for Star Trek saved away. (http://trekcore.com/blog/2013/05/deep-space-nine-in-high-definition-one-step-closer/)

That nebula in the 1080 shot looks a lot like a shot from a video game, rather like BC imo.  Very artificial feeling.  I didn't get the same feeling from the 480 shot though, I assume that's down to the slight fuzziness of that image.

Still good news though!

This may seem kinda callous, but my reaction to this is "Dammit".  Let's be serious here, DS9's last couple of seasons didn't have the best CGI, especially when it came to the Defiant.  The Defiant looked like crap in almost every CGI shot she was in.

I agree. Kind of bittersweet. I definitely would mind it being remastered though.

On re-reading it, I realised that the 1080 shot of the nebby is a raw shot i.e. no blurring or filters of any kind.  That's why it looks so artificial.

There'd be no reason the models couldn't be upgraded, the lighting corrected, and the animation smoothed.  The important thing is that everything is there to be improved upon, and doesn't have to be entirely remade.

I'd still prefer to see some of the battles re-done (Shields!) especially when it comes to the Defiant. Heck, throw a couple of Nova classes into the background as well.

It nice that a lot of the elements are still around.

I'd rather see most of the battles redone.  I know re-using stock footage is an old trick, but the final battle of the Dominion War deserved better.

They better be skin shields because torps and phasers would be hitting bubbles all over the place.

I would be pleased if they just retooled one episode...(The last episode was just reuse of battle footage)

Yes. The last episodes battle footage was quite disappointing. But budget constraints caused many problems.

One of the original cgi artist just took this a step further.
