Great, but the Enetrprise never had port and starboard phaser arrays.
also it did not have the ones placed in front of the bridge module.
i think you got either inspired by atra-hasis' conie pack (the bonhomme-type) or a completely wrong blueprint. ;)

but other than that little glitch that model looks just awesome.  8)

I think you want to make your canon as possible lint. So what do you think about a mvam feature?
You don't believe that a saucer separating connie is canon? Here the proof:

Quote
The modular design of the Constitution-class allowed for component separation in times of crisis. The primary and secondary hulls could separate where the connecting "neck" joined the saucer, allowing either section to serve as a lifeboat if the other was too badly damaged.
http://memory-alpha.org/en/wiki/Constitution_class

Quote
Saucer separation is an emergency maneuver performed on some Federation starships. It involves the complete disconnection of the primary hull and the secondary hull. Prior to the 24th century, separation was used as a means of abandoning either hull in the event of a catastrophic emergency. It was a one-time only event, and the hulls could not be reconnected without external support. (TOS: "The Apple") By the 24th century, separations were designed to be more routine with some classes being designed with reconnection abilities. Both components contained essential systems, allowing each to be independently operable for extended periods. (TNG: "Encounter at Farpoint")
http://memory-alpha.org/en/wiki/Saucer_separation

Quote
The only use for saucer separation in early starship classes was for emergency purposes related to crew survival. In 2267, Captain James T. Kirk considered a plan wherein chief engineer Montgomery Scott would jettison the nacelles and escape in the saucer section when the original USS Enterprise was threatened by Vaal at Gamma Trianguli VI. Ultimately, the separation was never ordered. (TOS: "The Apple")

Quote
The TOS novel Black Fire showed after a bomb exploded on the Enterprise bridge causing severe damage to ship and crew, Chief Engineer Scott ordered a saucer separation. The ship was reconnected at a starbase facility.
A TNG novel, Rogue Saucer, dealt with saucer separation also as a main theme to the story with Starfleet trying to design a Galaxy-class saucer section that would still be salvageable after landing.
The novelization of Star Trek Generations showed Captain Hikaru Sulu conducting an emergency drill aboard the USS Excelsior when he received news of Kirk's death from his daughter, Demora Sulu. The ship had just completed an emergency saucer separation when the communication was received.

While that may be 'cannon' in technical specs, it isn't 'truly cannon' because it was never done on the show.

Cannon = Respresentative of something that occured regularly in a television show or motion picture, (IE: Star Trek)

Just what was needed, a high res pre-refit Constitution-class.  I hope you're basing it off of the studio model, rather than blueprints.

Sounds great, I re-downloaded Anduril's Connie the other day just to look at the model and realized how low res and choppy it was compared to newer models, so I'm glad someone finally stepped up to the task!

Beautiful work so far lint!

You know, except for the forward and aft phasers, I don't believe there are any true canon sources that elaborate on the exact placement of all the phaser banks for the original Constitution??

I'm obviously not completely sure about this fact but I've never seen anything online or in print. And I've checked a lot of sources. I've seen many articles/blueprints on how many phaser banks the connie has etc... but once again, never the specific placements of all the banks.
Title: Re: Coming Soon!
Post by: lint on February 02, 2008, 02:31:41 AM
yeah,
im just giving her typical armament from what we have seen on connie's, forward and aft torps and phasors.

And something i hav'nt mentioned is, that this ship is a preview of a TOS pack im working on, which will include all the old designs of ships and stations, including

-Rom Warbird
-Klingon D7
-Botany Bay
-Station K7
-Daedleus
And un-canon Designs such as TOS Miranda, Defiant, Constellation etc.

I dont want to give away everything it will include...just yet ;)

The other 2 TOS packs that were being worked on are one from Phaser and the other from Chief Brex. Unfortunately, I haven't seen any progress on either of those for quite a while.

Too bad, because both of these packs showed some outstanding work.

done!, but more the better!.
its a good chance for new texturers to get some experience aswell, TOS ships arnt really that complex when it comes to texturing,
so dont think i only want experianced people for textures, cause i dont :)

My one that arose in a few screens on BCFiles is 9.8k, 12k is still a lot for a ship that isn't a detail hog.

I have to agree with Adonis on this one, To think of it, the daedalus is only composed out of round shaped parts (I hope I said it correctly :?), so it doesn't need to have a lot of poly's, but the overall design looks good to me :)
Title: Re: Coming Soon! (TOS PACK)
Post by: Bones on February 05, 2008, 07:23:09 AM
well as for the TOS ships detailing they were overall pretty bare and simple, take for example d7 in TOS and d7 from the very beginning of TMP (especially close ups in battle with v'ger) another example fed. ships and stations, in TOS mainly simple rounded shape with no visible details on hull, in TMP close ups on refit connie and floating office shows lots of tiny details.

However, it's made out of round parts, so needs a lot of polys to make sure it is completely smooth. Nothing worse than jagged edges!

Incorrect. You don't need to go segmentation crazy to make it look smooth. That's a newbie approach on the matter ;) Take for instance my Oberth mesh. The Grissom type has 6394 polies.

Post by: limey BSc. on February 05, 2008, 11:12:57 AM
I didn't go "segmentation crazy". I used the same number of sides that I always use for medium-large spheres/cylinders. It produces the perfect compromise between polys and smoothness. I tried some lower ones, and you could see the sides, even with the smoothing!

The cut-off at the top for the bridge module would be damn near impossible to do though. Whereas with the standard sphere, its easy.

I just downloaded it from bcfiles and it looks great in game. The only thing that I would say that is wrong with it is that the bussards don't glow. Getting them to rotate as well as glow is very tricky and has to be done in a certain way.

Lint love the new tos connie you have done but i have just one thing thats bugging me, its too big. Its not to scale with the other ships. i tried to dock it in a dry dock and it dwafed it. But other than that it was great and i love the rotating bussards  keep it up mate!
Title: Re: Coming Soon! (TOS PACK)
Post by: Shadowknight1 on February 06, 2008, 10:03:20 PM
Lint, your connie looks good, but there are a few things that need to be addressed:

1) Some of the textures on the bottom of the saucer and on the rim look off
2) The colors of the Buzzards should be reversed, the black should be small and rotating, not the red
3) The dome deck right below the bridge is a little mis-shapen
4) The impulse engines don't glow right, they're too wide rectangular.
5) The warp drive nacelles need to be brought up a little higher
6) The cowlings on the rear end of the nacelles are wrong.  I don't know how to explain it, but look at the studio model and you'll see.
7) The bridge...I'm sorry, but the shape of it doesn't match the shape of the ship that you're doing.  You're doing the regular run Enterprise, but the Bridge is shaped more like the "Cage" bridge module.

I'm not trying to be rude, I'm just trying to help you make the absolute best TOS Enterprise that you can make, as I know you can do it.  Honestly, the best resources for you would be screenshots of the Enterprise from the remastered show as that model was created from scans of the studio model, and pictures of the model itself from the Smithsonian, assuming it still has an honored place there.

Been awhile since an update,
I have made a bunch of changes to the connie,
Fixed the "blocky" registry,
Raised the nacelles,
Added a lot more detail to the textures (shuttle bay area)
And Genty has provided me with new Bussard Textures which now DO glow in BC.

Here is a render of her and an in game pic

Wow lint, I love the new buzzards, and it looks like you have the warp nacelles perfectly elevated.  Now my only suggestions are to work on the bridge area and work a little on the impulse engine, it seems a bit blocky.

Lovely work with the Roosevelt and K7.

There are still a few details that are off on the Enterprise. I am not sure if your mod is based on the original model or the remastered CGI model.

If the it is the latter, these screenshots may prove useful.

There is a mistkae on the insignia on the side of your model. Notably, the grey bits that appear on the sides of the hip before the insignia. Your ship doesnt have them. Those grey bits were also on the original studio model from the sixties.

Will these ship models damage okay?
