Title: seems like totallygames want to bc2 but activison no more license st games
Post by: shadow06 on July 24, 2008, 07:23:12 AM
yes they realy want to make this Bridgecommander 2 and i have request help or assist mod creator but they say very bussy :(
But 2 problems
1)Activision Terminate this st games license
2)they saying and think startrek abandoned

but they like this idea  i talked a few times this codename Alby he saying :

We don't have the time to actuvely monitor all the mod sites, and we really don't have the time to debug mod scripts for people. We do have other projects we are working on to keep the company in business, and programmer resources are very valuable and in short supply.

We did the game with Activision, and they don't even have the rights to the Star Trek license anymore. The chances of BC2 are slim-to-none. I'd love to work on another if given the chance, but with the Star Trek license fading in popularity, it seems unlikely.

What you think? This future they make STBC2 ??

I'm unsure what you are actually saying.

Do you have a link where they (Totally Games) say this?

You mean those 2 problems side from licencing issue's (this is a really big one) and not being a real market for it.

I'd say they're both big issues, the 1st one stops Totally Games developing it and the second one puts off anyone else.

I thinks its dead in the water.

That will only happen when Activision gets a lot, and I mean a lot, of money.

A large studio, with a large enough investment, could actually revive the demand for Star Trek game licensing by creating a high-quality Bridge Commander 2.

Excalibur, with a billion dollars to spend on development, could do it. Is it likely? Hell no. In a perfect world with infinite money, would it revitalize Star Trek in a culture where even mentioning those two words can cost friends? Absolutely.

Assuming Activision will yield it's Bridge Commander licence regardless of the spite because of the Star Trek licence.

A company already offered Activision a lot of money, but the offer was rejected.

Pfft... who needs Bridge Commander 2 anyways?

When we have Star Trek: Excalibur being in active development, and looking extremely promising. Not to mention, it's being made by the very best our great community has to offer.

A large studio, with a large enough investment, could actually revive the demand for Star Trek game licensing by creating a high-quality Bridge Commander 2.

I had to check this thread wasnt posted in 2006 - Bethesda has had the Star Trek license for a couple of years now. Better than that they have the complete Star Trek license, something that Activision never had.

The problem for BC2 (remember that they did make a start on it before Activision spat it's dummy) is that Activision still own the license for the name "Bridge Commander". There is no reason at all that TG couldn't approach Bethesda with a proposition of creating a new game in the style of Bridge Commander and call it something different.

Reasons why TG wouldn't want to do that are two fold I'd imagine. Firstly when they made the original Bridge Commander they had to approach Activision with a functioning demo to prove the concept - that takes a lot of time and capital and still isn't guaranteed to get Bethesda's support in the current climate.

The other thing to remember about Totally Games is that they haven't focused on PC games in a while, they have been mostly focusing on Mobile games since 2003 - that's not to say they wouldn't go back on that, but why the sudden change of focus?

Overall I don't think its likely we will see BC2 ever get finished (under any name), but if it does I'd be one of the first to buy it. In the meanwhile Im happy to continue development on Excalibur, oh that reminds me...

Excalibur, with a billion dollars to spend on development, could do it. Is it likely? Hell no. In a perfect world with infinite money, would it revitalize Star Trek in a culture where even mentioning those two words can cost friends? Absolutely.

We don't need the money, just time from us and support from Trek gaming fans.
