Title: Music WIP UPDATE December 24
Post by: Captain_April on October 04, 2008, 10:39:19 PM
well, I'm not sure exactly where this should go, but modding seems like the right place for it.

In light of recent events (the deleting of *illegal*? files on BC files), I have decided to write some music myself, some of it's based on the BC theme.? This music was created with Myriad's Melody Assistant version 7.4 demo
well, anyway, I am open to suggestions, comments, constructive criticism, questions about the music.

QUARTER NOTE(get it?): You may need to extract these before you can listen to them.

HALF NOTE(if you don't get it now, you will later): these are currently MIDI files, tommorrow, I will replace them with the much larger, more detailed, and more-difficult-to-upload-on-a-56k-connection MP3 files that you can play in BC.

WHOLE NOTE: The MIDI music is not always of the correct volume, that is not an issue in the MP3s as much.

EDIT: it seems that I can't upload the file right now, so I will leave you with the MIDI's until further notice

Well, I just listened to them and I think you're off to a good start.  I liked the second one more then I did the first, seemed more dynamic in comparison.

I've tried making music this way before, seems I don't have the imagination for it.  lol :D

Looking forward for more.

do something more james horner feeling, maybe even with segments or undertones that some song writers today take from old 60's or 80's hits.

Ooo, the bassline from Living On A Prayer would be good :D j/k

I'll DL them and give them a listen.

noted  .  on another note  , I'll also upload the MP3s when I get home, so that you all have something better quality to listen to.
EDIT: I am unable to upload them because of the 2 MB upload limit here.  If you want to hear these music files as MP3s before their final release, please PM me with the address to which I should send them to

The music sounds great, but BC for the SNES just isn't the same :P. I might give a go at writing a little bit (although I am not sure how to write music that well :P).

Does sound good, as long as the synth is not what is in the final product.

OH DEFINETLY NOT!!!

SNES BC certainly is not appealing.  the final product will be sampled MP3 music, as opposed to the synthesized MIDI stuff you're hearing.  I didn't upload the MP3s I have because I have a 56k connection.

anyway, if you want to write music on a computer, I recommend Myriad Melody Assistant (http://www.myriad-online.com/en/products/melody.htm).

for anyone who has melody assistant, here are the melody assistant project files also included is another piece I've been working on for this pack, not in MIDI or MP3 form, though!!!  I will have it in MIDI form later.

Title: Re: Music WIP (Update 10/6)
Post by: Captain_April on October 06, 2008, 06:03:58 PM
I've added some bits and pieces of various ST and BC themes into the two pieces, I have also decided what type of music they'll go in (panic battle music, neutral battle music, confident battle music, nebula music, mission/menu/qb music)
first piece: menu music, probably EpisGen2 (the QB menu music) that old piec was soooo anoying :(
Second: panic music

it wasn't me who voted it, but somehow I agree with him/her....

in every trek score there's a few chords that are signature of a moment/ship/race (read, the klingon song of TMP is used again in FC, when they show Worf. In Insurrection again, when he smashes the tag launcher with the rifle. and countless times in TNG and DS9.). In Generations, TWOK, TMP, FC, and Nemesis you might find them more evident. the sole exception, I think, is ST:VI. it had a complete different score to the rest of the series.
I wish I had a better music skill so I can actually write those notes down  :?

that applies to the original BC score too, in the first two episodes, in the final movie (when the Sovereign warps out, ala "victory fanfare"), in the opening sequence (when the title flashes in), in Success-12 track....

Here are a few new pieces with a different theme to them, they would be confident battle music:
Quarter note  : some of these pieces are from the KM-R development forum, others I have yet to put there...

Overall, they sound pretty good, but I think to volumes need balancing. The main part seems to get drowned out by the backing parts.

I'll be sure to work on that.  thx for the suggestion.

I have a link to a piece that I'm not sure if it should be Episode 5, or Nebula music. (http://cid-11b5060a84fe1fc0.skydrive.live.com/self.aspx/Captain%7C_April%7C4s%20BC%20Music%20files/Episode%205%7C_or%7C_Nebula.mp3), So I decided to change the poll.  please post if you vote other.  I know its not the best quality, but its better than midi...

also, I know some parts are drowned out.  the lower bit rate reduces the volume of multiple instruments playing together, but I can't upload a 6 mb file in a decent amount of time on 56k connection, maybe I'll do it tommorrow.  until then, listen as best as you can.

NOTE: the first other vote was me, incase anyone notices that someone voted other and didn't post.

I have nothing to show you this week, been busy studying for exams and writing papers.
But, I got a 105 on the exam, so its all paying off.
*whistles and walks away*
and please vote, plz!

I've restarted work on this project, writing prototype panic battle music last night.
Here's the low-quality midi for now, I'll upload the MP3s later.
As always, comments are welcome.

Very nice... I guess.  Hopefully mp3 sounds better, cause I just wasn't feeling it.

MP3 does sound better, though its not quite balanced in terms of volume yet.
I've also written a Neutral base, which I think is much better.  I'll probably rewrite Panic later on.
Panic music is here (http://cid-11b5060a84fe1fc0.skydrive.live.com/self.aspx/Captain%7C_April%7C4s%20BC%20Music%20files/Panic.mp3)
Neutral music is here (http://cid-11b5060a84fe1fc0.skydrive.live.com/self.aspx/Captain%7C_April%7C4s%20BC%20Music%20files/Neutral.mp3)
