I haven't down loaded a ship for awhile and I had to get a new computer with Vista. I unzipped a file and the icon looks like a piece of paper with the upper right corner folded. There's no data, scrpits or sfx. How is this installed into the game?

A .bcmod file can be unpacked using BCUT.

Bcut is a Very handy tool, for some other things tooooooo.

I appreciate your help, but that didn't work.

is it properly configured? that's one of the things it's designed for. What did you do?

this is his thread about the issues he is having with BCUT... personally i dont understand why he is having problems with it, in all honesty...

I have a theory as to why this didn't work.
Which ship was it you downloaded? Please provide a link.
I'm guessing that the reason it didn't all get extracted from the zip is because it is either saved in WinRar or WinAce. Both of which cannot be extracted by just using WinZip.
If it is just a stanndard zip file though, my guess is that either WinZip on your PC isn't configured or that it was simply a bad download.
As I said, none of this can be verified without a link to the ship you downloaded so please do.
(PS: WinRar is free and will allow you to open RAR and ZIP formats. WinAce opens practcally every compression format on the internet, has better compression rates but is not free)

I have winace and bitzipper; will those work? I can't remember the ship I tried to install ( too much confusion in the past few days and my memory has been damaged from my illness). It was a Enterprise era I think. As for BCUT I think files were installed into the wrong folders (that would be the second or third time I installed it). The first time I read the instructions and I couldn't make any sense of them. I followed the noob101 instructions and it didn't work. If I could make a suggestion about the noob101 instructions. I would put instructions on configuring BCUT first then the instructions that are currently there. I offer this respectfully. Some of the threads seem to take offense at my problems; I most certainly did not intend to offend anyone. I'm sure the program works fine as I have read so many posts to that effect.
