Hey guys, it's some time ago i posted something new from my ships here,
so I thought i go puplic with this one :D
Maybe some of you remember the Acheron, a ship I modeled around a year ago:
http://bc-central.net/forums/index.php/topic,2486.0.html
Cause I really liked the design but wasn't that happy with the model, I decided to completly rebuilt her
quite a while ago. I never spent befor that much time for a mesh like on the Acheron. That have to do
amongst others that I was quite busy the last time and that i really take my time with that ship.
I'm pretty happy and proud like the ship turned out, though I thought it's time to get some more feedback
on the ship befor mapping and texturing the ship.
For the poly count: Yes, it have quite a lot more polys than my other work :(. So far I always tried and was successful
to keep the poly count of my ships below 10k triangels. The Elysion had 8,5k and the Theseus have just around 6k.
The reasons why i go over this limit are versatile, for now let's just say it has resulted.
So the poly count is atm at 19,6k triangels. Though it's quite a lot, it's at the same range then DJ's Century and Sun Tzu.
I wanted to say here that i don't intend to always go that high, and on my futur ships I will go again with my personal 10k limit.
Despite the high poly count i will make sure that the ship will also run on mid and low end pc's
finally i just wanted to say that i'll write my final school degrees in march, so I'm quite busy atm, so don't expect many updates from me in the next 2 months
But now some pics, C&C are welcome :)
-
DJ Curtis better watch out, he may have some competition here :P
-
wow that looks great
-
Amazing looking ship you have there.
-
thx guys :D
2 more pix, side and bottom view
-
I know you showed me already but it still rocks!! :dance
cookie +1
-
Very nice. :D
DJ Curtis better watch out, he may have some competition here :P
hehe, my first thought was also a DJ design.
-
Oooh. Nice. Cookie fur u. 8)
I'm really sensing DJInfluence here. Me likey. :arms:
-
lol, the shadow of DJ looms over this model hahahahaha..... turn on a flashlight and you'll do just fine although DJ is kinda the benchmark. really great look though
-
I love the bussards!!
Awesome stuff.
-
Ooo, this ship reeks of nifty-ness! And yes, that's a good thing. :P
And are those transparent coverings on the bussard collectors? Neat touch.
-
Daaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaamn. That is fracking amazing.
-
SWEAT SONOFA...
If you EVER tell me that your modeling isn't great, EVER AGAIN, I swear I will slap you.
 Dude, that is AMAZING....
Edit: I dunno that I should bother with the Mithra anymore; looks like you've made one HELL of an excellent replacement. Rofl. xD *loads Quantum Tor-Cookie launchers*
-

Shame. I was looking forward the the Mithra too.
:(
Back on topic,
-
Nice, I can't wait to see this bird.
-
DJ Curtis better watch out, he may have some competition here :P
Indeed. :)
Rengers, you already know what i think of this work. One thing that has occurred to me in looking at those pix... you're gonna need one heckuva good HP'er for those phasers. lol
-
*raises hand* :king
-
Rengers, you have some projects you really should bump. Whatever happened to the Theseus?
Ok, Jimmy, I'm sorry. That was basically asking for an update. :P
I dunno that I should bother with the Mithra anymore; looks like you've made one HELL of an excellent replacement. Rofl. xD
I really hope you don't give it up. Mithra and Archeron can be sister designs, like the Nebula and Galaxy. Maybe throw a pod on one of them?
-
Rengers, you already know what i think of this work. One thing that has occurred to me in looking at those pix... you're gonna need one heckuva good HP'er for those phasers. lol
Not to mention, the obvious blind spot in the aft section with no torpedo coverage :P
-
There's 4 Excelsior-style launchers on the aft, unless I'm mistaken. Beautiful ship here Rengers!
-
thx all for the comments, I'm glad you like it :D
first, like Bigkap said already, she have 4 aft torpedo tubes. The torpedo tubes in general are very similar to DJ's
Century, the tubes have all the same size, the aft ones just don't have that big lagging like the front ones, I will post some close up pix of the torp tubes later today.
Rengers, you already know what i think of this work. One thing that has occurred to me in looking at those pix... you're gonna need one heckuva good HP'er for those phasers. lol
yeah, lol, that phasers on the top saucer could be not that easy to hp, but i will think about later.
@Aeries: Don't give up your mythra, I remember back last year, we started at pretty much the same time with our ships, it would be great to see both of them one day side by side in BC :D
-
I dunno if its possible, but some suggestions of mine:
Perhaps move 1 pair of the torpedo tubes from the underside, to the topside instead? Thus giving it slightly better coverage, and make it look alittle less cluttered on the underside. Also think the dorsal saucer phasers would look better, if they were placed further out, closer towards the edge.
Might make it a bit easier to HP as well :P
-
AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA! So pretty! Thats what Aeries meant by the Acheron months ago...:P
-
Hah, the "Bad boys of the galaxy" on patrol?
Dude, this is frakking amazing. You do nothing but astonish me, so have cookies, I haven't given anyone one in a while.
-
Since I can give cookies now as well, you'll get one from me, too. Love the design!!!
-
Awsome design there rengers I cant wait to see where it goes from here.
-
It looks like the 25th century has a unique style. I like it. The rollbar is very reminiscent of DJ's Leonidas Class. Don't give me ideas. :P I like the transparency of the bussard collectors that reveal the inner workings.
-
Very nice design... elegant and mean at the same time.
Excellent job.
P.S. I also look forward to the Thesius
AND THE MITHRA... Aeries
-
one thing that has occurred to me in looking at those pix... you're gonna need one heckuva good HP'er for those phasers. lol
well... since I've been out of the action, rusting like an old wet pole,... bored to tears....I think I can take a chance with them.
besides, this is a fine looking ship, and I still have some skills when it comes to HP delicate ships.
it just took me two seconds to see the drydock picture in your signature and go "man, that's beautiful!"
alright, the offer is made. it's your choice, tho.
-
Very impressive. I definitely like this ship.
-
Very cool ship; reminds me a bit of the Achilles based on the shape. Definitely awesome design!
-
thx guys :D, and thx to those who offers to hp this ship.
But tbh I don't know yet, if I'll give the job someone else or if i try it by myself.
But I'm sure some time will pass off until the ship will be ready for hp. I will decide
then if i will hp it by myself or if i will leave it to another, it depends on how far my hp
arts will be evolved to this time, although thx again for the offer :)
-
I must say that you have an incredibly clean mesh :D
-
i just want to throw up some shots of your older, original mesh for the acheron to do display just how far you have come with this great design.
a cookie for you sir for the excellent progress.
jb76 edit - i have uploaded the images, as hotlinking them were a bit large
tech - sorry, i was afraid of that, but was lazy ^^
-
thx tech, here is a little update, probably the last one for a while on this one:
the first shot is the promised close up shot of the torpedo tubes (like I said already,
they are very similar to these of DJ's Century), the rest
are shots of a drydock i specially built for the acheron. I have built this
drydock some months ago as a result of boredom and i have to admit i had some fun to do it :D
The Drydock is completly finished and i have already ported it to BC.
I also plan to make custom shuttles for the Acheron and release it altogether in some kind of a pack
-
Neat.
-
epic drydock. definitely looks post-nemesis.
-
Great job mate, remind me... your doing this in blender right?
-
I look forward to seeing your progress with the textures. it all looks good at the minute
-
Nice design has a touch of the white star from B5 From some angles. Good job :D
-
SWEET!! Akira-Class meets the Intrepid Pathfinder-Class. Nice! I assume its from the Luna-Class / USS Titan-era?
-
ok guys, exams are written and I'm back in action :D
the Acheron is mapped and i started texturing, not much to show yet, but
it is a start.
I will try to give you regular updates on this one, but i can't promise anything :)

very nice work mate, textures are looking great.

thx mate :D
last one for today

damn that looks sweet
-
I am detecting much inspiration from DJ. I see Valiant-style pods, bracing at the back like the Raptor, and the color scheme evident in much of DJ's Century line.
I love it! We should have an entire fleet of DJ!
-
base texture for the middle section is as good as done. I'm too lazy to draw windows,
so I move on to the outer sections of the saucer, but i will get back to it later
to draw the windows and to adding tons of details :)

Its looking real sharp mate 8)
-
wow...that looks great. especially the panel-ing...or whatever you call it.
-
Very nice work. :]
-
Neato. really good work there. :)

I was actually thinking Achilles successor more than anything. I won't contend the presence of Century-line cues, but the dorsal section, and the seemingly super-low profile stardrive among other things had me typing up BCFiles for comparisons.
-
Wow! looking absolutely awesome rengers. ^^
Oh btw: We just got your Elysion (http://legacy.filefront.com/file/Elysion_Class;98952) released. ;)

thx mate, and the Elysion looks really nice in Legacy :)
Have a cookie for your work to put my ship also in Legacy :D

love this ship. don't forget to smooth out those nacelles. though you probably know already, :)

-
thx guys :D
love this ship. don't forget to smooth out those nacelles. though you probably know already, :)
don't worry mate, I haven't forgot about the smoothing :). In fact the most of the model is without smoothing
atm. I have to redo the whole smoothing but i'm to lazy to do it all at one time, so just the parts with
textures are smoothed atm.
just a small update today, was the most time drunken at the weekend lol

Looking great!
-
I like picture 13, it looks like you should be able to replace the engines with different versions, like one for transwarp etc.
-
This is shaping up brilliantly, loving the texturing... may have another Motm nomanee soon ;)
-
Awesome.
-
update:
have drawed some more aztecs and put some escape pods to the saucer

that's cool...cookie!

today I have again a modeling update for you :D
These are the first two shuttles for the Acheron,
they will be launchable with the shuttle framework.
shuttle 1 is kinda the standard shuttle of the Acheron, it's a mix between the type 9
and the type 6 shuttle and is my own design. The shuttle is atm unarmed,
but probably I will add a small phaser at the front. Polycount is 1,9k triangles
shuttle 2 is like the type 11 shuttle a heavy long-range shuttle. It is armed with
2 front pulse phasers, 2 sideward phaser strips and 2 front micro-quantum torpedo tubes.
Polycount is 3,7k triangles ( It is quite a lot for a shuttle but i had just to much fun while building it :D)
The original design of the shuttle is from Paul Cargile, but i took some freedom while building it :)
Both shuttle meshes are 100% unified and error-free :D
I plan to do a third shuttle, but I have no design idea yet, so if someone out there
knows a cool shuttle design, be free to post it here :D
c&c is like always welcome

-
 Duuuuuude! Those are AWESOME shuttles!
-
I can haz 2nd shuttle? They're awesome. We don't get enough shuttles these days.
-
 Duuuuuude! Those are AWESOME shuttles!
that's what im screaming! :D
-
Very cool. :D
I'm seeing hints of the Delta Flyer in these, was that intentional or is just my imagination over thinking it?
-
That Type 6/9 shuttle looked pretty neat as well. Very nicely done.
-
I do too, also I notice some traits of other Voyager seen shuttles and small ships implemented in these, Good Job.
-
Shuttle B has some definite Argo influence. I like that! :D
-
The second shuttle has also a nice voyager smallcraft touch in it. Episode worthy!!! 8)
-
J3bus CHR1S7, RENGERS! That's amazing!
-
Very nice work mate, shuttles look excellent 8)
-
a small update:
started with the textures on the first shuttle,
more pics later today :)
Images removed. See last page for latest images
-
Oh awesome! It likes more and more like a Delta Flyer/Type 9 shuttle mix!
-
Wowzers! Can't wait to cut through a nebula with that thing!
-
Delta Flyer meets Type 9 meets Valkyrie fighter. Very, very cool. :)
-
Ooohhh... The Galileo is back! 8)
Cookie for you! ;)
-
thx guys :D
a bit more

-
After seeing the first pics I was gonna ask if you where gonna detail it some more 8)
have a chocolate chip on me 8)
-
thx mate, and yes, I have detailed it more
the shuttle is for the moment done, maybe I will make some changes later after the
Acheron is textured, but for now, I will continue with something diffrent
pics:
-
Very nice.
As an aside, it's aft profile looks kinda like the shuttles in ST09
-
Just an idea...
Would be cool seeing a "Danube Weapon-pod" variant of that shuttle. Obviously this shuttle was built for speed, and not so much combat (I count 3 phaser strips). Perhaps adding a weapon pod on top of the shuttle? Looks to have a good location for it. Not necessarily "identical" appearance to the Danube Runabout pod, but you get the picture :P
Love the look of the shuttle. Would be fun flying around in one of these, perhaps against it's mothership.
-
very nicely done mate, it looks great 8)
-
thx guys, glad you like it :)
@ Darkthunder: This shuttle will have just these 3 small phaser strips. But there
will be at least one shuttle that will be a bit better armed (for a shuttle)
Today I have a update for you on the textures for the Acheron itself. I have
lined the rest of the saucer and drawed some more aztecs.
-
She is awesome!
-
The texturing on this babe exceeded my expectations! Cookie! :D
-
small update:
started with the textures on the second shuttle.
More pix later today :)
-
I want that shuttle as my Christmas present. :P She is very pretty. I'm gonna guess that she is larger than the other shuttle?
-
Ya see....
If ya dont get MOTM then i will be shocked, looks excellent mate 8)
-
sweet shuttle ya got there rengers
-
Now, that second shuttle is just *runs out of words*
-
Wow, very very nice shuttle. Do want. :D
-
Agreed, so awesome!!!
-
thx guys, glad you like it :D
I have as good as finished the textures and like promised here are some more pics.
I will play around a bit more with the deflector texture, cause i'm not pleased with it yet. This
is something i haven't figured out yet, how to do nice deflector textures :?
-
Look at those impulse engine exhausts! I'm in love!
-
 Dude that shuttle alone could win an award, let alone the whole lot! Cookie time.
-
Freaking awesome shuttle!!
though I think the landing gear doors need to be a tad bit bigger.
-
Real nice!
Excellent design.
Fantastic work.
-
Love the shuttle! Wasn't this from the old Paul S. Cargile collection @ Starfleet Military Reserves?
Specs?
-
looks like vectored thrust.
-
The ship is killer. And the shuttle rocks. Could you relics the shuttle as a separate download ship?
-
I found it. There ya go.
-
Hey guys,
I wasn't very active lately, mostly because i was busy with my real life. Originally (month's ago) I planned to release
this ship on christmas, but since I'm not finished I thought atleast I have to make a little update on this
I made some good progress on the textures, though I'm far from finishing. There still some areas that haven't
got aztecs yet, also there missing a lot of details and stuff like transporter pads and so on.
I hope you like what I have done so far :)
PS: @Hellsgate: yes, the second shuttle is based on the original design made by Paul S. Cargile, though i have taken some freedom while building it, when you look some pages back you will see I already mentioned it there ;)
-
Wow good mister :eek you just got nominated to MotM award :D she's a bada$$, real evo of Century class
cookie btw.
-
Now that's what I call a starship :evil
Only one suggestion would be to wash out the yellow (especially the shuttle bay area) on the specs by making them matte (dark colored on spec map) ;)
-
that is one killer ship.
may i call you daddy?
-
Only one suggestion would be to wash out the yellow (especially the shuttle bay area) on the specs by making them matte (dark colored on spec map) ;)
Some of that yellow is meant to be there cos rengers did mention earlier that it would have a scheme similar to DJ's Century.
-
Are you the love-child of DJ and LC? Or did you download their brains into yours? :P
Because this thing is awesome!
-
thx guys :D
-> Adonis: thx mate, glad you like it :)
-> Dalek: Adonis reffered to the speculars, don't worry, I know what my mentor wanted to say ;)
-
thx guys :D

-
I love it. It's like the ship I never built. :funny
LOL ROFL seriously..it looks exactly like something you woulda built LOL
-
yeah back in 07, pretty much. Very different style from what I'm doing atm. It looks great on this ship though, I think.
-
yeah back in 07, pretty much. Very different style from what I'm doing atm. It looks great on this ship though, I think.
Yup I can see Vivace color scheme here (white hull with a bit of contrasting details, pale blue lights and warp grills, orange/copper rcs thrusters and yellow signs) guess who's Rengers's idol :P now we need huge command ship from both of ya, capable of carying valiant class in his cavernous hangar bay :D something even bigger than the Eclipse or Excalibur
-
Damn, that all i can say is damn!!! Cookie

Brilliant looking ship there Rengers, keep it up :)
-
Superb.
To me it looks like a somewhat modified (or perhaps extensive refit?) of DJ's Raptor.
Incredible detail and beautiful design.
Cookie.

Oh, I remember this ship now. Looks awesome.

Cookie.
I always thought of it as kinda the Raptor's little brother. :P
Really beautiful work there, glad that you're keeping this design going. Some designers decide to redo the entire thing if they take this long away from it...*cough*aeries*cough*
-
This was first made 2 years ago... Isn't the Raptor younger than? I thought the Raptor was only made last year.
-
i love this design please post the side forward and aft view the top and bottom views look great
-
Lol, Rengers. Still blowing people's minds, I see? Good work bud. :]
-
Hey guys,
its some time ago i posted here something... to be honest i'm very busy atm with other stuff in my life,
so I haven't got much time to work on these, though i have some progress to show :)
the Textures are finished :D, now it's time to give her some lights and speculars...
-
orthos
-
Man I wish I could texture like you
-
OMG WOW that is awesome!
-
The detail and work you've put into this is incredible. Can't wait to fly her around. :D
-
Rengers and DJ need to art direct the next Star Trek anything, game, film, tv series, etc.
-
Beautiful! I want it!
-
Will there be a blank registry so us Acheron lovers can slap our own names on? :)
-
amazing quality rengers and WB drop a line in the fleet boards we missed ya
-
Rengers and DJ need to art direct the next Star Trek anything, game, film, tv series, etc.
I second that.
-
Nice to see you back at it mate, looks fantastic.
-
Looks like the upper saucer design was influenced by the same kind of thought processes that made HR Giger so successful :p
Beautiful ship.
-
I?m in love with her... She?s a beauty!!!
-
this reminds me of an achillies class. would make the perfect replacement
-
Good Stuff man. You can never have too many fed ships in your fleet can you? :funny
-
That is just epic!
-
What a thing to wake up to. :D
This is seriously my favorite non-canon ship ever. Everything about it just oozes advanced Federation design. I can't believe the precision with which you matched many of the design/texture cues to the Enterprise F. Love the touches around the for and aft torpedo launchers, including the " double barrel shotgun" style forward launchers. It just works incredibly well on this ship.
One of the toughest things about creating a non-canon design is trying to find new ways to make an old formula interesting or aesthetic. The saucer/drivesection/warpengines formula can be changed around, have parts more numerous or less numerous, different shapes sizes, but no matter what the formula for the Fed ships is always the same. The real secret imho is flow. Federation ships need to have the appearance of rigidity and strength from a well defined set of lines that provide the ship with a certain degree of character and form.
This ship has got that in spades, thanks largely i part to the very well executed catamaran style saucer that sweeps back into the drive section. I can imagine that if a person were to see a ship like this from space, it would be quite dramatic.
The other thing I like about this ship is that there's a lot to look at. The textures are done to such a level of detail that it's easy for your eyes to jump from one point of the ship and inspect it before jumping to something else. Yet they are more or less subtle enough that you can comfortably observe the ship as a whole.
Tremendous job on this, Rengers!
edit*
I was looking a the ship again because it's so amazing. It's funny for me because the texture style is such an accurate representation of those on the Enterprise F. As I'm sure many modders who've been around BCC/BCU for a long time can attest, as a modder you go through "style" phases. This style of texture I applied to I think three ships (two released, one never finished). I've since moved on to other styles, and am not even sure if I remember how to go back to a style like this, but what makes it cool is that it's like looking at my own work through a different set of eyes and I really like it. It's very clean looking.
I'm really looking forward to your next project!
-
thx guys for the comments, glad you like it :)
@ Dalek: jup, the ship uses a id-map, i will probably include a blank one in the release
@ DJ: cheers mate :D
-
Awh man, that's HOT! :D
-
Wow, those screenshots are so awesome, they look like they came from Drex Files. If I owned Star Trek, (I Wish lol), I would hire DJ and yourself as full time modelers.
-
All I can say is :woot: This will be a fine addition. Nice job definitely cookie worthy....
-
And....
I would just like to point out..
Rengers uses BLENDER 3D
Not 3Ds Max, Not Maya, Not Lightwave Blender.. a free app..
not sure what he uses for textures mind, but if its the GIMP.. then he deserves cookies for a month.. every day off everyone on this board
-
Wait he did that with Blender(what I use)?! Thats awesome. Yay now I have someone else that can help me.
-
thx guys, lol, yeah I'm still building and map my ships in blender :D
took a while to figure out how to get a ship from blender to BC but i found a "relative" easy way with the help of Adonis :)
If someone is out there who needs help with blender or with porting from blender to BC just contact me ;)
I have done the lightmaps and speculars for the Acheron and ported it to BC, could be i change some small stuff on the specs but all in all i'm
pleased how she looks ingame :)
some teaser shots:
-
Permission to be sick on the red carpet? She looks even better with speculars. Imma bake a cake. :)
-
Looks truly awesome! Love every part of it :D
Submit pic1 for potd ;)

Incredible, Rengers. :]
-
Very cool. It's nice to see more alien/federation designs.
-
this is truly my new favorite ship
-
thx guys, glad you like it :D
another one
-
thx guys, lol, yeah I'm still building and map my ships in blender :D
Holy crap. I'm am a hell of a lot more impressed after that statement :P I had to use Blender for my Uni course last semester, hated it. I actually lost marks in my assignment for constantly bitching and whinging about how hopeless, crap and generally useless Blender was (ie a critical comparison of it and Max)! The fact that you can make such a detailed ship with it astounds me.
Kudos!
-
Didn't like non-specular renders, but ingame this is most impressive new ship seen in a while. Not really my taste, but kudos man :)
-
She looks mean! I love it! :D :yay:
Can't wait to rip a Valdore to shreds with her!
-
Awsome mate... awsome
-
That is one beautiful ship. Brilliant design.
-
Those shots are absolutely beautiful. And I see you managed to get the transparencies working perfectly, excellent job. You sir deserve this cookie.

Captain sees Achillies-Class upgrade/refit, craps pants and heads to his quarters to commit harry carrie rather than be killed by his Number One or see his ship blown out of space or killed by his superiors for penultimate FAIL as the Acheron locks on with minor systems and picks off the warbird party one annoying K'vort at a time, wing-mounted weapons and then other systems one by one just for amusement.
