Title: BC Shield Project 2
Post by: FourChan on April 09, 2009, 01:11:37 AM
I plan on making a few new shields and items to go with BC, I was wondering about shield textures. I was wondering if they're able to be used with.

1. Alpha Layers for brightness etc when shields are hit.
2. If you can have transparency's on the .tgas for shield textures.

Update:
This is what I'm currently working on and adjusting it to work with clear textures so the black isn't really there, well trying to at least. Here's what I have so far.

I was watching a Episode of the Next Generation that's famous and known as "Yesterdays Enterprise". When the Klingon Ships were attacking the Enterprise, to me it looked like only some points of the ships shields were lit up when it was hit. Kinda like how it was on Nemesis with the Skin Shields. If anyone has any input on this project it would help also. So once I figure out what shield textures I am gonna use, I plan on putting it into the Beta  Testing Stages.

Image 1: Shield with direct impacts.
Image 2: Standard Shielding from the Movies, Shows, etc.
Image 3: Showing the Multivector shield hits. Showing that even with multiple impacts the whole shield sphere doesn't have to light up.

It looks like someone is using my "chicken fried" Voyager.  Shield textures are always cool.  Keep it up!

Kkies, I am making them more realistic if you would say. Like the new shields are all in different vectors on the grid, so current shots hitting the shields would just cause a small potch mark on the shields instead of having them all light up, kinda like how they did in Nemesis on the Skin shields but making this work on the shield bubble is a tough one, so I am gonna continue to tweak it until it looks good.

Here you go, I added Alphas to the shield textures to see what effects it would give, and it seems that instead of just starting to flicker and what not like they normally would, they give light on the hull like a light up effect when weapons hit.

Also I plan on reducing the size of the texture (The part that shows up when the shields are hit) so they're roughly a bit bigger than a phaser blast or torpedo explosion.

It might be, once I figure out a good texture go with the ships, i'm working on the first two, then a third one. I was thinking of adding a Electric type static with some alphas to light it up.

I shouldn't double post but, is anyone willing to Beta test 4 shield patterns for me?
