Post by: GMunoz on November 05, 2009, 01:32:30 AM
Here is the Thunderbolt class heavy destroyer.  Comments and suggestions would be appreciated.

hmm.. blue pulse phasers as defensive means in the rear?  :evil and perhaps TOS-ish version of sensor/torpedo pod as in Nebula, but way smaller..

If you look at the fourth picture you can see phaser turrets right under the shuttle bay and there is another pair above so she has good aft phaser coverage.  Not sure about the Nebula type pod, there are already 4 torpedo tubes in pods to the left and right of the main deflector.

Nice. I like it.  Though I might have the cylinder get smaller towards the front.

DJ, thanks.  Actually insparation for the look is WWII P-47 Thunderbolt hence the fat nose.  I'll reduce it and see how it looks.

Is this an adaption of the Bonaventure or supposed to be the Bonaventure, just with a different class name?

From the looks of it, it's a separate class of the same era.

Anyway I like where it's going, I'd have the centre 'tube' the same diametre all the way along, rather than making it thicker or thinner.

It is a seperate class from Bonaventure.

I tried the same size for the center hull all the way thru but it did not look good.  It look like, well, a tube running thru the ship.

waitaminute, if someone here is the author of the Bonaventure, you've got the wrong species assigned to the ship for Nano FX...i think it was given a Cardassian species assignments (also the Kingston wall, which is assigned the Romulan species code)

P-47's didn't have circular noses you know, more like shaped like an egg upside-down. I'm with DJ on this, the front of the deflector housing could use getting a smaller radius than the structure aft of it.

Use BCUT to fix that. Its very simple.

Anyway, this ship is cool. The nacelle pylons look a little flimsy though.

That was the style of TOS in general.

well, I'm sure that she is stronger than what she appears to be.

In game, with sister ship USS Mustang.  Brought in the nacelles a bit.

nice, just for kicks, could you post a side by side comparison between this and Wiley's Bonaventure?

Thunderbolt --> Bonaventure

Constitution TOS --> Constitution TMP

Imho. The ships look similar enough to share the same lineage, but different enough to warrant being a major refit. The TMP Constitution is sometimes known as the "Enterprise Class".

If you compare the bridge size, the thunderbolt should be a tad smaller. =)

yeah I can see it being two subclasses of the same class, like the Bonhomme Richard and the Achernar subclasses of the Constitution class.

Thunderbolt --> Bonaventure

I'd consider it to be the other way around, as the Thunderbolt has TOS style bussard collectors; whereas the Bonaventure has ENT style ones.

Oh, and the registry  :P (Although when I get this I'll re-register it to be pre-Constitution, between 1400 and 1600 probably)

P.S. I love it!

Need opinions,  should I put glows on the registries on the top saucer and nacelles?

atolm made a tos thunderbolt (probably early tos..and could be adapted to the TAS Bonaventure) but it had a 3 nacelle setup plus a ring attached by 3 pylons to the drive hall. The nacelles were built into the ring.

See what it looks like with glows on the saucer registeries first. The nacelle registeries shouldn't need any glows.

Submitted to BC Filefront this morning but received error when uploading the screen shots.  E-mailed the BC Files team, so let's see what happens.  Here is the final version:

Good TOS ship. Its looking like mixed Defiant and Yorktown class and this is the beuty of the ship. The ship combine TNG and TOS design.
