Post by: champion1642 on May 29, 2010, 10:53:20 AM
A problem with the shields has just crept up on me, I can't change the shields, I have tried Installing C2X shields and stars mod to no effect. the shields stay the same, I tried it manually as well... still no luck..... any help would be appreciated :help:

simply replace sphere.tga in data folder, if you meant changing texture.

Yeah, what lmm said. Upload the current sphere.tga and then upload the one you want to replace (to do this click on Addtional Options and then browse when making a post).

Is this perhaps on Vista or Windows 7?

AHHH, sorry guys I made the most amateurish mistake EVER, I'm so embarrassed I don't even want to say what the mistake was :)

suffice to say the shield mod is working now, thank you for your input though, and I am very sorry to have wasted your time hope you forgive me :(

@teleguy I don't think having Vista or Windows 7 makes any difference since I have used Vista and am currently using win 7 with no major problems...

dont be - mistakes are always learning experiences, no matter how small or silly they may be :)
perhaps if you explained what you did wrong at first, it might help someone out in the future?

One of the problems I have with Vista and 7 is that damn user account control and the face that it doesn't like it when you mess with your file structure (i.e. installing mods for BC, among other things). Windows XP FTW! Don't feel too bad man, I know everyone has those "duhr" moments lol.  :hithead:  :D

I have never had any issues with Vista or Win 7 when it comes to the UAC. :P
(Win 7 even lets you edit how sensitive it is)
Also best way to get around other issues with file protection... DON'T INSTALL GAMES IN THE PROGRAMFILES DIRECTORY!

That's what the problem was in the first place, the C2X's shields kept extracting to program files directory.... and I am using a 64 bit Win 7 therefore I have to install in the program files (x86) directory and not the program files directory, I can't believe I didn't see that b4, and I should have seen that....

@ #11 I don't have a problem with Win 7, or installing Mods via copying and pasting files, nor with the UAC

I've done that same thing before on my laptop (Vista).  :hithead: But you have to learn somehow, right?

ah huh so that was your issue... anyway that wasn't the real point I was getting at....

I was saying you should install in a directory like C:\\Games\what-ever
