Title: SR3-Normandy
Post by: Captain_Licard on June 28, 2010, 01:20:47 PM
Ok, so after seeing the latest POTD with the normandy and watching the cinematics for Mass Effect 2, I came up with this kitbash from USS Prime's SR1, Full credit for the original model goes to him. After reading up on the Normandy, I wanted to combine and improve the 2 previous designs.

That's quite interesting, actually. Planning weapon pods/torps on the wing tips a'la the F-16?

Thinkin about it, in the mean time, added some detailing to the engines to give em a Y-wing styled look

I'd make the aft section fins slightly larger, and put them at an angle, but i'm liking this so far! Nice job.

(Thanks for that POTD comment by the way ;) )

I just wished that we had the SR-2 aswell. :(

Someone might be working on it, y'never know. ;)

I like where you're going with the engines. Have you settled on the size of it yet, mate? :)

Im thinkin about making it bigger, however thats gonna be a pain seeing as it was a pain modeling the inserts and getting them rotated and placed correctly. im thinkin about adding gun turrets to the wings similar to the ones on the SW Republic Gunship, just a thought. Also, for laughs, i was gonna strap an akira weapons pod on and found that the ship is smaller than the akira weapons pod lol :funny :funny

You can always just select all verts or faces (Whichever way you work) and scale it up.

I love Mass Effect and your SR-3 Normandy is looking to be Awesome.  Have you thought about making a Canon SR-2 to go along with the SR-3?

I should be able to form the sr2 from what ive got now, with the sr3, I have a lot more liberty to mess with the design than if I was making the sr2. Not to worry, the sr2 is coming but right now, enjoy the sr3.

in the meantime, im gonna work on the detailing and see about those wing turrets

UPDATE:

ive finished the base domes for the turrets, im thinking about adding the weapons locked in a position were they shoot outwards from the wings. Ive also repositioned them to a more defensive position. I'll post pics when I get home from work.

Vladko has agreed to texture her (seeing as shes done) ive created a basic paintscheme for him to use as reference. The yellow areas are were windows will be, I have scaled up the model a bit but not to large

the windows look about the right size, the engines need to be darker, other wise it looks good so far

Reduce the window count by about 1/3 and separate them out like the following:

II III II II III   I I II II   III I I II II I III I

Or something similar.  Notice that there are extra spaces in spots, as well as single and double windows, with very few triple sets.  Try to keep the placing random but a bit uniform, as if there are actual rooms behind them.  It helps if you think of a simple layout of ship areas when you're doing this.  That way, you don't add windows where there is machinery or something.

I take it the SR-3 is going to be WAY small than the SR-2?  I don't know if they ever list an actual size for the SR-2 but you can see from her windows that she must be much bigger.  Definitely bigger than the SR-1.

Yes, the sr3 is smaller than the sr2 but larger than the sr1. This is to re-give it its ability to fly in all types of atmospheres whereas the sr2 could only fly in a limited range. Also, the smaller size lets the craft be more manuverable.

You might want to shrink the windows down in that case, as currently in comparison to SR-1 it seems much smaller.

The SR-3 defintely needs more colour but you might want to think about making the registery a different colour aside from orange.

I'd also change the windows as it looks like you borrowed them from a Galaxy-class.

I like the speculars though. :D

Make the darker areas alot darker and and make all the text white and drop the SR3 thats in front of normandy along with moving the word NORMANDY farther back on the center hull like it is on the sr1.

Change the font and colour of "Normandy", it really does not look right.

Add more black hull elements, its not a true Normandy without them. And change that font.
