Title: Fallout 3
Post by: Mustang on August 17, 2010, 01:12:41 AM
SUCKS.

I played this game for about 5 hours straight, and I must say I was completely disappointed. Aside from it being insanely hard to control, how in God's name am I supposed to get around a nuclear wasteland with just a freaking compass on my map? I do not want to press B every time I need to look at a map, and, with no clear waypoints or landmarks, that is about every 5 seconds.

Combat? Forget about it. I can't aim in Fallout 3 to save my life. Every other FPS you give me, Halo, Modern Warfare 2, Bad Company 2, anything I can play and aim well. Not this.

Has anyone else played this suckage?

Yeah! And I love it. Best game I've played in many years.

Judging from your problems I'd say you're on a console?
If that is the case I understand. It's a PC game through and through.
I've never found it hard to control or aim accessing the map.

Never had a problem with it and I've played it on PC and PS3. I'm a big fan of the game and pre-ordered New Vegas. Out of curiosity, did you play Oblivion at all?

I played and finished the game on the xbox 360, once you get used to the gameplay it's an immensly enjoyable game. The waypoint system works fine, it's displayed on the compass as well as your map.

That's actually next on my list..

Well chances are that if you don't like Fallout 3, you won't like Oblivion. Fallout 3 is basically post-apocalyptic Oblivion with guns and no magic.

A friend once spent 23 hours straight playing it. I never liked the whole post-apocalyptic theme save for Half-Life & HL2

ROFL. Fallout isn't an FPS. rtfm. Also, it occurs to me that Troll is Trolling.

It is if you never change the camera to third person.

No, no... It's a first person RPG. All you need to do is acknowledge the weapons skills and perks you earn ingame to see that. (Plus the fact that there are hitrolls and such other). That said, there is a mod for the PC version to make it handle like an FPS, doing away with the numbers.

Do you have a gun? Do you shoot things? It is all done from a first person perspective?
It is an FPS. It is also an RPG. Games don't have to be exclusively one category.

Because I have to jump into the ring (I'd be mad not to)

Yes, you can call it an FPS I guess, as a generalization.

Yes, you can deny it's an FPS, as a generalization.

Most FPS games like Battlefield, Medal of Honour, Arma and such handle very differently to the FPRPG style. It looks like an fps, yeah, but it doesn't handle like one.

But hey, I could've told you you probably wouldn't have liked FO3 just based on what other kinds of FPS' you enjoy, and if you play any 'real-time combat' rpgs. Not every game works for everyone, that's why I won't go near WoW or TF2 anymore.  :P Though if you were ever convinced to try it again, I'd suggest try the PC version, simply because it's a lot easier to handle. Plus the small gameplay tweaks you can find (like making VATS a bullet-time effect rather than the current setup, or turning it into an accuracy modifier).

Hah, and here I thought I'd start trouble.  :(

And Limey, there has to be exemptions! I'd hate to see what a turnbased RTS looked like.  :funny joking, of course.

That's an oxymoron :P Turn-based real-time cannot exist.

Sure it can! You move your units in real time on your turn, then your enemy does!  :funny

I have It for PS3 and Love It, and I have It for PC and I love It. Best aspect of the PC version Is mods, there's nothing like adding on to Your Megaton house, or replacing almost every gun In the game with real world counterparts. It adds a whole new experience to the game, and It also makes for better loot XD. While I must admit I never played a Fallout game before the third I am hooked In the lore, It's like I Am Legend and even more once you get Dogmeat! For being a fan of games like COD4, Rainbow Six, and Battlefield It was easy to pick up and play. Considering I have played Oblivion since It came out for PC and console It's an easy transition even down to the controller layout on PS3/360.

I to am stoked about New Vegas, especially the thought of killing Mathew Perry LOL. Obsidian did great with Knights Of The Old Republic 2 and I can't wait to see how they do with Fallout.

:( Why not?

Got tired of the general community who play on the Australian servers, the lack of any retooling of backstab, demoman, solly, FaN, to name a few. ;) Engineer was fun for a while, but people just take that game far too seriously, and a tf2 munchkin is even worse than a D&D one, and if anyone has ever played PnP before I'm sure you'd agree.
