hey guys, been working all night on a space scene but ive hit a dead end in the render setup.
i was kind of hoping someone here might be able to help me get a photorealistic look on it.

Are there glows or something on the clouds? If so, turn them off, or try to sort the lighting problem on them.
-
there is no glow at all on the planet sphere cloud sphere or atmosphear
well, ive gotton rid of the starfield i had and replaced it with a pic i found on the hubble site

Atmosphere is a little too thick, it's basically meant to be the thickness of an eggshell relative to the size of the earth... or something along those lines.

It's also too dense, the edge of it should be moire blending.

i really really could use your help LC, the render setup really needs tweeking and i only know how to set up mental ray one way and thats for car studio type renders. i know the atmosphere seems thick but its mainly the place where i put the camera. it consists of 3 sphears, one fore the earth texture (at 100 for size), one for clouds (101 for size) and then one for the atmosphear (at 103 for size) soas i said its pretty much all camera thats making it look big.

replace the planetary nebula with a sun/lensflare and you've got the opening shot of the first season TNG opening credits

Increase the poly count of that sphere. You can see the vertices the way it is now. That and the other comments sum up the basics pretty well.

each sphere has a turbosmooth mod set to 2 lits so it aint the sphears that are doing that. believe it or not its the displacment map i put on it

Yeap i was abou to say that
but rememeber that from space even a highest mount would be 2 or 3 pixels high.
