Well I decided to start on my first Star Trek ship to build from start to finish. I've tried various other designs before but never successfully. I combined several design elements from ships I've seen online (Galen82's Wanderer/Renown class) along with existing canon designs (Sovereign, seen in the engines). I left an alternate engine design in the model but will likely just stick with the Sovereign-style nacelles.
Working on textures now, so hopefully they turn out well.

I like it, good work.
-
Looks very good! I like her.
-
I like that Defiant-ish nose :D bottom of it would be ideal for fighter bay ;)
-
Progress on texturing so far. I've found out that aztec-ing is the bane of my starship-creating existence... Easy, but horribly repetitive and mind numbingly boring.
But anyways, let me know what you guys think.

Based on the size of the windows I'm using, she should end up around 20-ish decks.
@Bones: while I was planning to have her stats list her as carrying two Valkyrie-class fighters, the front area was actually intended to be a slipstream-dedicated deflector. We'll see though.
-
Hi,
Great !
Go on :yay:
-
My only suggestion (thou it would've been better pre-texturing stage), would be to make the stardrive a bit more "rounded". Using Excelsior or Sovereign style for the forward end of the stardrive. The saucer section looks pretty good, just the stardrive which seems a bit "boxy" at current.
Nice start.

As of this moment I am muting both of your accounts: bdfd and j.t.k since both belong to a single person. What will happen to you will be decided in due time. For the time being you can browse the boards but you cannot post or send personal messages.
Pending admin review we have decided to permanently ban both of your accounts.
@Arvis Taljik
You have staff's apologies on this incident.

I really like the color scheme you've chosen for this ship.
-
I'd go with the other style nacelle. Fits the design just as well, and is much more original.
-
Took Darkthunder's advice on smoothing the stardrive but all I ended up doing was beveling the underside and adding an extra line of verticies on each side of the upper portion to give it a bit more curve.
With gridlines:

With smoothing applied:

I'm also not very happy with the deflector area of the stardrive, so I'm open to suggestions on what I could possibly do with it.
-
Have you looked into something like what's on the sovereign or excelsior stardrive, for some reason your hull seems to remind me of those deflectors.
Then again, what you do is up to you.
-
why not use more advanced looking equinox engines instead ???
-
Just a quickie of my current texturing progress on the underside of the saucer. Really just need to add detail lines and such before moving on to the little bits like phaser array warning markers and such. Then it'll be on to texturing the upper part of the main hull.
EDIT:
Finished the underside of the saucer and now working on the upper primary hull. Before starting this section I also moved and remodeled the torpedo launchers as their previous position didn't look all that great.

There's some good texturing going on here :)

Seconded. Very impressive work for your first mod!
-
Thanks for the encouragement!
Once this girl is done, I'm seriously considering putting the Odyssey class on my chopping block of ships to do. Would give me the chance to fix a few things I don't like about the design overall. :P
We'll see though. The Odyssey is a big step up in starship design over this thing I'm working on.
-
Good stuff. You could add some overlays to the windows.
-
Looking good. I'd extent the stardrive section out to the nose, though, if you're going to have a big deflector there.

Actually the concept is a dual deflector design. The nose deflector is specifically for quantum slipstream while the stardrive has the dedicated warp drive deflector.
-
Just an outstanding design, a lot of great elements coming together on it. Nice work on her so far.
And a cookie.
-
Awesome paintjob ! really nice design, looking forward to see it finished  cookie !
-
I really didn't think people would be all that interested in this design lol. Pleasant surprise.
Thanks for the cookies too :P
Another small texture update:
Added an aeroshuttle (same type as on the Interceptor-class) simply because I like the concept of an aeroshuttle and I think every advanced exploration ship should have one :P
Ventral transporter emitters added as well and mostly completed underside aztec patterns. I also changed the underside dark gray area of the saucer to a hex pattern on a whim. Lemme know what you guys think.

-
Hmm, not sure about that hex pattern. Possibly as a variant, with a new form of "hull alloy", but I prefer the "Sovereign styling" you had before :)
-
I rather like it, shows advancment in hull design in Starfleet. :D

I agree
-
agreed... its a good look for armour sections in my opinion
-
I also agree!
-
Finally done with the whole saucer and main hull. Next up will be the stardrive section and the pylons.

Really excellent work! Makes me think you should really, REALLY try for some better warp nacelles than the Sovvies.

Agreed.
This model/texture job is too good to slap on a pair of copied nacelles... it needs something original.
Something similar to the Sovvie nacelles, but different enough to make it distinct.
Excellent job on this.
Cookie.

looking good, the hex pattern is really well executed and give the ship alot more uniqueness, as for the nacells i would definatly base them on the sovereign, as it gives the ship a good flow in its overall shape, but i would seriously consider modeling some new ones using the sovereigns as a base a modifying them heavily.
-
How about something similar to the Sentinal from ST:Invasion?
-
interesting, going with the hex pattern, i considered doing something similar with the fair haven, but the aztec pattern as a whole only.
didnt like it too much because it didnt flow like normal paneling, what youve done looks good.
as for your nacelles, i would recommend keeping the overall shape from the sovvy style, as it looks like this is a sov-esque ship.
just change around how the field grilles are and the bussard collectors.
keep it up
-
Tiburon nacelles are great choice, I love them and personally if you want them to look more Sovereignish it's easy, just repaint side of the bussards (http://bridgecommander.filefront.com/screenshots/File/112195/5 - I've done it on Krakow v.2)

I really like the nacelle design as well and I'm considering just changing up the warp grilles a bit. Started on stardrive section texturing so should have a pic or two up by end of day.
-
I'm really impressed with this mod.
As for the nacelles, if you like then you use them it is your design at the end of the day :)
-
impressive texturing
to be honest im a bit speechless....
-
Started on the stardrive texturing and figured I'd do the Starfleet pennant first.

UH nice :D, from the design, it is a REALLY future ship. Strong Phasers , slipstream [you said] so fast even at impulse. :woot:
-
As far as the engines, the Sov engines with an Oberth engine grill design on the end would look neat. Something along the lines of the Nemesis Oberth by Phoenix, Just a suggestion.
As was said,
I'm really impressed with this mod.
As for the nacelles, if you like then you use them it is your design at the end of the day :)
Agree with that Baz.
Keep up the awesome work.
-
Okay so RL kinda picked up but I should be making some big headway on this ship over the holiday weekend. We'll see where my creativity takes me in texturing. :P
-
Hobbs mate, don't reopen old / death threads ur get your self in trouble mate

Good work so far
things you might want to consider though as you texture a ship, there is a difference in hull plating and paint on the ship. it is a detail most people mix together when texturing the ship.
also as a advanced design you might want to skip the whole escape pod thingy and go with a new option. A torpedo can be used to store all the transporter patterns of the crew and be launched to the nearest star base instead the technology was used by Scotty in the TNG episode with the dyson sphere, Relics

While yes, it's technically not nice to "necro post" a thread which has been inactive for more than 30 days, we also don't need additional moderation assistance, phoenix.
Next post should go to Arvis Taljik if he/she decides to update on the development of this ship.
