Akiva has said it will be more episodic than DSC and Picard, but will still be serialized in the sense that there will be character arcs, they won't just drop things between episodes.

He also said it will be more hopeful and optimistic.

There will be background stuff, character arcs and such that will be serialized, but the main plots of each episode will be self contained.

In other words, the news is "no news at all". Nothing's changed since last we heard about the show :P

It's working fine on my end.

The TrekCore twitter link I posted though is down, CBS probably asked them to remove it.

Edit: Oh it's probably because I already have it in my browser cache. Now it should work

When they were updating the plaque to read "Starship Class: Constitution", I kinda wish they had replaced "San Francisco, Calif", with "San Francisco Fleet Yards". Since the plaque should be simply "Starship Class" (in this time period anyways), they might as well "fix" the other thing as well. I know some ships can be built on the ground, but it just makes more sense to build ships in orbit.

That being said, this plaque certainly looks a lot better (and no more split-delta BS)

"...to boldly go where no one has gone before."

MAN. It's Man! As in Human, Mankind. Not the gender.

Trek dropped the use of 'Man' in that quote with TNG (except in Enterprise on the plaque, and the Kelvin Timeline Movies)

The use of Man/Mankind is outdated, I'm glad they removed it, the gender neutral 'no one', is a lot better.

I know exactly why they dropped "man" from the quote. To be politically correct. But that doesn't change the facts of history. The show might be made in 2021, but it takes place in pre-TOS era. The quote should be based on the quote from the same era as shown in the 1960s.

But alas, politically correctness must take priority.

I also object to the notion of "Man/Mankind" being outdated. Are we not HuMANs anymore?

Human is different from man/mankind.

Do you think Pike should still want to be an Orion slave owner then? Or find it weird to have a woman serving on the bridge?

Some things are allowed to be updated, they shouldn't be slaves to the outdated/offensive ideals of the 1960s.

"Hi! We're No One's from the Planet Earth..."

That isn't what I'm saying at all. We'd still use Human.

Wouldn't put Human on a plaque though, what about the non-humans in Starfleet?

"We come in peace for all mankind."

or... "One small step for man, one giant leap for mankind."

Yup, such outdated or offensive comments. /sarcasm

That being said, this particular plaque is onboard the Enterprise ONLY. And from what we know of canon (to those of us who actually still give a damn about such things), very few non-Humans were serving aboard the Enterprise. Spock being one of the exceptions. My assumption is that other ships wouldn't have the same motto, for example the USS Intrepid (a crew of ALL VULCANS).

"To boldly go where no man has gone before" is an honorific from the speech given by Zefram Cochrane in early 22nd Century, and likely adopted by "the flagships" of the Federation. Not as a motto used aboard every single ship (as we've seen other plaques which don't have the motto). Pike's remarks about women I'm perfectly okay with rewriting it (as it was indeed sexist), as well as him being a slave owner. All of which from 1 rejected pilot episode, so can be discarded. But the plaque of the Enterprise, was the same for all 79 episodes and should keep the original motto. Political correctness be damned!

Not all things in history need be rewritten, just for the sake of political correctness.

Mankind is an outdated term, I'm sorry.

Human is fine.

And there is nothing wrong with political correctness in the modern sense. It will help the world become more exclusive and welcoming for everyone (except assholes)

Human is fine.

That's Huperson. :P

Mankind isn't an outdated term, it's perfectly fine. Political correctness is intellectual colonialism designed to control the way people think. It hasn't lead to a reduction in racism or sexism or any other ism. It's just box ticking so that the statistics look nice and inclusive. It's terrible. It kills individual and local cultures in order to create a world wide mono-culture where everyone is the same. Fucking bland.

Also, I think you meant inclusive rather than exclusive. PC isn't necessary for that. People are going to be arseholes no matter what. Everyone is to someone. Why? Because it's subjective. Nearly 8 billion people on the planet, you aren't going to get anywhere close to all of them thinking alike.

As regards to trek: I agree with you that some things need updating, but for that they need to do a full reboot with a new canon, not try to shoehorn it in to an long standing canon. Trek really needs to get over itself and start fresh with the 25th century or a full on reboot. It's become stuck in the same place, which is what has allowed Orville to be the better franchise atm.
