Why not two?
Because it's suppose to have 1. Other than in the JJverse, the Transporter Room has always had 1 console. The green may be an homage to the original, but it's still.. "too green". The lighting like all things in nuTrek is overly dark, and then it's the goddamn black shiny floors!
You talk about "outdated" ... Well, imagine how difficult it might be for crew members of a certain gender to focus, when they can stare at the shiny black floors, and see underneath crew members of a different gender?!? Especially if those crew members are wearing miniskirts.
