SciFi Renders
« on: November 20, 2008, 02:06:59 PM »
I've been playing around in Max and made up this render. I figured I'd start a thread where people can showcase any of their renders, which neither fall under the edited BC or non-edited BC screenshots. Caption for the picture: "The Enterprise has failed. Inform the Admiral we are engaging the planet killer at Wolf 359."

That picture looks good, but there barely isn't any lighting (if that's what you are going for).  Try using 2 onmi lights, one having Raytraced shadows, the other for fill light.  Thanks for making this thread, I have a few renders to include as well.

Yeah, I was going for a darker picture. I have 2 omni's in there. One is orange, coming from the planet killer, the other is white and off to the back.

Here's a few renders that I've had in my inventory.

EDIT: I added an additional picture.

Ah yes, where did I see that one? I agree with who said the graininess needs to be a bit less.

Not as awesome as I wanted (royally screwed up the depth of field settings.)

Fixed, HD render. I left out some glow mapping and bump mapping as well as tweaked the depth effect for greater realism.

Here's the USS Beliskner at Earth Station McKinley, rendered in Poser 7 using the SNS Galaxy and Deemons Mckinley Station.

Here's one I did for fun.  The background image is a screencap from ST: 3.  The deflector is based from a problem that X-Box console owners dealt with.

not bad, although I would have tried to match the lighting in the screen cap.  Notice how my render has blue light from the earth reflecting off it.

Check up on the Workbee's speculars, they're specularity is awkward messed up.

Did some more messing with settings, this time render effects.

To Adonis: Yeah, I noticed that. However, for the Soulwolf preview video, I am replacing the Drydock and Workbees with CGI replacements.

Edit: Slight Update. Added a type 10 shuttle and light tracer.

here's a new one from me.  This is the old SFP DY500 Cargo variant.

That's a really cool idea! Is it just me, or are there no shadows? :?

well, from this angle it is in pretty direct light, the light source is almost directly behind the camera, just a bit to the right, and that DY500 model is fairly flat, so there isn't much to cast shadows.

one part that might be throwing you off is that the texture's aren't gray like the original model's, I made the textures white so that the ship looked more new.

Not a bad concept, and that-s about how they would have launched into space, I bet.
