I'd say, let him. Can't do worse than the job Rick Berman/Brannon Braga did to Trek over the last few years of their reign.

Star Trek belongs on television. And why couldn't they make a new series for tv, set in the "Prime timeline", and continue the movies in the "JJ timeline" ?

Personally, Im all for it. I wouldnt mind a bit of clean humor here and there (Like Riker to Worf in First Contact: "You do remember how to fire phasers?"), but for the most part I agree it should be serious as well.

I also agree, DT, that that there should be another "Prime" series. Wasnt it announced about a month ago that there was a new Trek series to be pitched Post-Voyager or something?

Seth MacFarlane's animated shows are satirical, so they are supposed to be "funny" (personally I find Family Guy occasionally hillarious). But I also know that Seth has alot of love for Star Trek, and so if given the chance, I'm sure he would take the job serious.

If Seth is serious and he can find backing I am all for it as long as it is set in the Prime Universe. Post Voyager certainly but I would be open to filling in gaps.

He should talk to the likes of Manny Coto etc. He really turned around Enterprise.

ANOTHER idea they brought up in the star wars spoof commentary, but IIRC it was joked to be a wrath of kahn spoof....

but if hes going to be ACTUALLY serious about it, i say letm, but i do want to see some serious work from him FIRST.

I'd say my plans for a Trek TV reboot would be better, but Seth MacFarlane is a very creative man. I'm confident that he should be able to work wonders with it. Although, I too would like to see something like "proof" that he could pull off something serious as opposed to comedic.

I'm all for it. Definitely prime universe.

And IMO, Berman/Braga did a pretty good job (with some exceptions... namely Enterprise finale).

I'd trust Seth MacFarlane with Star Trek. Even when he parodies them on Family Guy you can tell he knows his stuff. I also read somewhere that he tends to be a bit of a perfectionist when it comes to his shows, so I think he can handle it.

Seth doesn't just know his Trek, if you pay careful attention, you can tell just how diverse his nerd-dom his, yet how well he treats it. For example, his riffs on Back to the Future, he always pays careful attention to his reference material. And then there's the Star Wars parodies, and I don't think I need to go too far into those.

The major issue I've heard people take with this is that MacFarlane doesn't have the "street cred" to go into serious TV. When people see "Seth MacFarlane", they think "Family Guy", much like when people see "Leonard Nimoy", they think "Mr. Spock". That said, however, if MacFarlane can make it work, then I'm all for it.

The question is - what the hell would it be about? Where would it be set?

I personally would hope for post-Nemesis era - my bet would be that the repercussions of the destruction of Romulus would be where the new series would start.

Me neither, as long as he can keep it about 90% serious and have some little "inside jokes" now and then, i mean as serious as trek is, it doesn sometimes need those little skits now and again. *thinks back to when picard has to fake declare his love for luoxana troi over the viewscreen to get both her and deanna back*

I don't have a problem with it either. It is evident he really loves Star Trek, I think he would treat it with respect.
