Massive Explosions
« on: February 08, 2012, 02:24:05 PM »
Who wants to create massive explosions and energy waves on STBC!
Because If we all work together on this then we could all have are own form of massive energy wave like when a moon explodes!
Especially like the one from Star Trek VI The Undiscovered Country!

And What about the massive explosions!
Yey!
Big ones that are almost blinding to look at!

modders generally never take requests as they are all backlogged with their own work...

your original post contained only this sentence:
Quote
Who wants to create massive explosions and energy waves on STBC!
it sounded like you were making a mod request for someone to do, hence my response...
no big deal; i was just passing along the typical generic response when someone makes a ship request or a mod request for someone else to do...
of course, if you are working on a project yourself and are asking for help or someone to work with, thats completely different...

what have you done thus far or could be able to do?  it might be better to explain more on what you can do and what you need someone to help with?

Sorry!
It was mainly because I had to go and have dinner after writing the sentence so I did not have time to finish it!

Well I did Not really need much help I was mainly asking weather people were interested in making bigger explosions!
AND
If they were then I was going to ask for any good explosive pictures that people want on there BC game!
Then I would create a mod for BC!
Upload it to BCFiles.com and Then Give people the Link for it!

ok to get your sig images follow this code (no spaces) [ IMG ] image link here, must end with an image file [ / IMG ] and they should show up in your sig.

i tried to fix the sig for you, but the images are too large and both will not fit in the size permitted for forum sigs...
best bet would be to resize the pics to be much smaller...
try playing around with it...
or youll have to think of something different...

if you have any other questions about sigs or your account in general, please post them in a new thread in the Forum Discussion section...

And what exactly would you do? What kind of mod?

Scripting this is the hard part.

It's also worth considering that you'd be working with an engine that wasn't even exactly state of the art when BC was released 10 years ago.  Of course Nano proved that the explosions can be improved, but there are still a lot of engine limitations if you're going to raise the bar higher than he did.  Not trying to be a nay-sayer, just know your enemy...

What I would do is replace the targa files for NANOFX2! I would not need the scripts for them because they would just be replacements!!!

you would have to open the files in photoshop and alter the textures.

Whoa...hold on man, no one is criticizing you.  It wasn't clear that all you were looking to do was replace the TGA files for NanoFX.  We were just trying to figure out what you were looking to accomplish and trying to give you an idea of what you'd be up against because it sounded like you might have been trying to do something more than just a re-texture.  You won't find ANYONE here that will put people down for trying to contribute to this game...

 :yeahthat:
It sounds like you want bigger explosions, hope others do too, and you want someone to make them or work on them with you.  But unless I'm mistaken I doubt there's very much interest in this.   But you never know...

I was looking at something like that for my own personal install.  Rather, higher quality explosions.  But, to my dismay, the nanofx script calls for a single texture and cycles through the sections in the texture for the explosion.  1 texture for each different explosion.  Although the damage texture, is scripted to look in a folder and use all the textures (in order).  Like the explosion ring, that's 1 texture.

Hope you figure something out.

something you might want to note is that for Kobayashi Maru, the explosion FX had to be tuned down because of stability issues (there was additionally a plasma ring when a ship blew.  it was removed to stabilize things)
