Don't leave off the melburne. As silly as it was to have them little nacelles up there it was a wolf 359 command ship...

I have to agree with Starforce...

...It's also one of my favorite ships as well  8)

Excellent work so far on this model!!!

I've never been a fan before of the Nebula but your release will definately change my mind on that. :D I'm getting fond of this ship.

And yes, the Melbourne was strange. I guess those extra nacelles certified it as a courier or fast response cruiser.

As there seems to be interest in the Melbourne, I "may" mod the variant at some point.  :?

Anyways....

I need your opinion folks, I've been experimenting with bevelling hull layers in Photoshop and I need to know what you guys think of these test textures. Basically I've bevelled both layers of hull panels to give the appearance that they been raised from the hull slightly. I need to know if the raised panels look any better or should I stick with the original flat textures!?.

lemme take you through what changes I've made....

Pic 1 - An extruding bevel effect giving the appearance of light and shadows on the hull panels, making them look raised.

Pic 2 - A pillow box effect which places a small darker outline around the hull panels which is a little more subtle than the first pic.

I think that they both look great.  One thing you might want to consider is that from certain angles, beveling, or 'fake bump mapping' makes panels and other things look like there sticking out when they should be sticking in, and vice versa.  From certain angles it can make things look pretty funny, especially windows and escape pods.  This is the reason I've decided to go with flat details on my Galaxy.

Just something to think about.

The other nice thing about leaving your textures un-beveled is that when a game comes along that you can use realy bump mapping or normals in, then the ship will be usable without looking comical.

My 2 cents.

Fantastic looking ship Glenn, you're really doing it justice.

I ditto all of that, actually. From certain angles, the beveling would look considerably strange. It's an interesting effect, to be sure, but personally I'd go with flat textures.

Still looks interesting. Whatever you go with, I'm sure, will be very cool. I'll download this ship either way.

Thanks for the feedback guys, I've decided to drop the bevelled texture look for this release, it just didn't look right!!.

I'm starting work on the glows right now, after which it will be onto the speculars. In the meantime here are a couple of in-game pics showing the ship with completed textures.

Not too crazy about the bussard color but the rest of the texture work is definatly cookie worthy.

Can I make a small suggestion? Will you be releasing a single ship as a teaser and a ship pack later on down the line?

Not a big fan of huge ship packs... :P

Excellent work though.

Chyea yea!!!! I'm TOTALLY digging this! She looks totally amazing already, I can't wait to see her with completed glows & speculars. Had I been at the correct rank and post count, I'd give you a cookie, but for now, a metaphorical cookie for you, good sir. (insert cookie here)

that looks great Glenn.

In my research for the appropriate galaxy class color scheme, I found that the alternating panels had a very slight green hue to them.  The color is still grey, but there is a noticeable tinge in direct light.  I don't know if you're interested in trying it out, but here's the values I used.  I also included the color of the lifeboats, as I could best determine after viewing dozens of screenshots.  Don't feel like you must use any of these, it's just if you're interested.

Main Panels
R: 196
G: 196
B: 200

Alternate Panels
R: 186
G: 189
B: 186

Lifeboats
R: 185
G: 185
B: 155
