textures from scratch

whats the best way for going about this? is there anything special i need to do or what? ive went through the tutorials and read the azteching and the application, but theres nothing on starting completely new ones.
I came, i saw, i added a Sig.
Later gents, i have Youtube to take over.

1. Map ur ship
2. export ur UVW mapping (textporter) *3dsmax 9 onward has built in uvw exporter* to an external Graphics software shuch as Photoshop / PSP or the Gimp thats free
3. Draw on top of ur mapping what you want to see  8)

Ohhhh no,

Illustrator is mainly for vector graphics, its handy to get acurate lines, and segmets on saucers, its great for window placements, and cant be beaten for creating registries...  but for the actuall textures and these tuts you will need Adobe Photoshop. (or equivelant i.e gimp or psp) If you can get an older version grab one  8)
