Hollywoods WIP?s TMP Romulan Warbird
« on: October 25, 2010, 11:26:18 AM »
Hello, this is actually my first post on this forum and i wanna show you my first selfmade model i have been working on for 1 1/2 week now and it?s not to be realesed yet, because there are at least a bunch of things i have to adjust. At the start i felt like i wanna do a klingon ship, but then it turned more and more the romulan style. So i thought, we dont know much about the romulan vessels between tos and tng :idk:, so maybe on the way from the bird of prey to the warbird, the romulans used the frame of the D7, which they know is a powerful design after having a few of the D6?s out of the short alliance with the klingons.

So i let you rate this and please be gentle  ;)

the head itself needs an "aztec" (hull plating style texture) along with the windows.  a bird badge wouldn't hurt either.

The leading edges of the "wings" are really flat, could you shape them to be more like the back end of the wings?

I'll echo JTK, Good job, far better than my first ship.

Thanks alot for your comments on it. I sat down yesterday after the first response and put on the badge and realized it had no torpedolauncher/disrupterbeam. About the edges at the wings, thats a little bit more complicated, but i agree with it, it needs to be somehow more round. Has someone eventually any suggestions about details, i could add to the nacelles?

other than aztecing the actuall nacelles.  leave the plasma vents and bussards as is.

also, does anyone else agree with me that the neck either needs a prop or thickened?  it looks like it'd break off in a sharp or hard turn.

agree with the neck, or shrink the head of the ship, I think either way would look good. Maybe some distrupters on the wings? So far I like it over all. I have designs in my head, I just lack the ability to model lol

It?s the opposite on my side, i would be better, if i know what i am up to, so i can avoid some mistakes i make while modelling "free- hand". In fact my organic looking models have a more nice shape, because it seems more intuitive to me.
Maybe we could work on one or two of your ideas together?  :dance

ditto on the lack of modeling ability (and I'm a Mechanical Draftsman!)  I'm used to a CAD format, as that's what I trained in.

oh, shrink the bird badge a hair.

Nice start for sure!

The head looks a bit out of proportion with the rest of the ship.

I wonder what the nacells would look like if they were a bit more round versus rectanglular.

I can't tell much about the body of the birdie, what does it look like.

Impulse engines?

Weapons?

Keep up the good work.  I am still learning mysel.

Some protruding weapons and IMHO getting rid of at least half the amount of windows you have in the nose may also not be a bad idea. Nor would the signature large plasma tube not be a bad idea.
I just realised something. I've released over 300 fully modded ships for bridge commander. Bow to your master :D
