Model Property Editor crash
« on: September 04, 2011, 12:26:22 PM »
Hi,

I try to edit an existing ships (want to add some pulse phasers)

I start the editor, choose my model (.../data/models/ships/xxxx.nif), then i want to load a script (...scripts/ships/hardpoints/xxxx.py) and if i click "Add Property" i see a list of the installed weapons/etc., but if i double click one of these weapons (for example the Quantum Launcher) MPE crashes..

My System (dont know if it matters, but maybe there are some incompatibilities

i7-2600K
GTX 480
8 Gigs of RAM
128GB SSD (it is installed there -> In the same folder as BC itself is installed)
Win 7 x64

easy fix

after loading the script, head over to the right where there should be a "tree" you must click on the plus signs untill you get to something that says "Scene root", then you canplay with the properties.

Another question: How can i move/roll the ship to see its front for example? And how can i change the position of added weapons?

there's set of tools on tool bar, locate, pick, rotate etc. locate is for moving properties (you click locate tool, then click wherever you want on a ship then edit property, go to 'subsystem' tab - it's usually the last one and click 'get position'

to rotate model just click rotate tool ;)

I dont get it how to rotate the model correctly.

Doesnt work. Strange.

Btw, i succeeded in adding two pulse phasers to my sovereign that always fire together.. I love it. Thanks for the help to get the MPE to work.

oh... sorry, it's 'orbit' tool actually :P but you can always use 'pan' tool combined with zooming ;) orbit tool is very sensitive so move it slowly or you'll quickly lose the model from sight

be aware that there are many many ways to accidently crash the mpe. You found one. So, frequent saves should be your motto.

Also, be aware if you zoom the model in or out (you can use your mouse wheel) or drag the model, and then try to rotate, it will rotate around the models original position when you first loaded it and might do some funny things. I see I really do need to get going on the mpe video tut. Now that I am home, I think I might do it later today.
I just realised something. I've released over 300 fully modded ships for bridge commander. Bow to your master :D
