Thought you'd all liek to have a look at the first official team project, the Suez.
Check out the poll on phaser layout. Applies to the tmp only. Tng is done according to the CGI concept.
-
The ship looks great, I say the phasers should be like pictured but a bit smaller
-
I'd almost say it's cute!! :3
Neat little ship you have there!
-Aeries.
-
reminds me a bit of the selfridge!
the phasers should be the same as in the pic but as already said I'd recommend making them smaller as well. They look too massive!
-
Looks great, feels like a police vessel or transport almost.
-
heh that looks like a ship I made a while back
-
Oh, there is one thing I would like to mention before I forget...
I noticed you have placed shadows on things like the Thruster Assemblies, Escape Pods, and windows? Imo, it doesn't really look right with the shadows there, perspectively speaking. I think, given the size of the ship, and what looks like a general low-poly model, you may be able to get away with modeling in the before-mentioned components... It shouldn't be very difficult at all, I mean, it doesn't have many windows and escape pods anyways... the only major challenge I can see are the thrusters.
It's aaaallll up to you. I just wanted to throw that out there, though it does look like you've pretty much completed it... OH! The phaser banks also look rather large, but that could just be due to the ship's rather compact size... Eh, just IMO.
Looks really neat!!

Well, I would have to model in those components. A big portion of the ship is made into one piece. The engines, impulse, saucer, engineering are all 1 model. The only seperate objects are the phasers. I prefer to try to make the ship as 1 model, if I can that is. So, modelling in those components would require me to adjust the main mesh and remap the ship.
I'll think about it anyway. :D Unless I start from scratch again, more practice anyway. lol
The phaser banks do look kinda large, but that ship is small...hence the large windows. I assume it's the length of the defiant but I don't know for sure, maybe a tad smaller.
Looks like people want smaller Phaser TMP Balls (Almost sounds nasty, lol) for the Suez Class. I'm assuming it's the Suez class since the original pics are labelled as Suez and the Reg's on the ship in the pics are USS Charleston. I figure she's a frigate or a small support craft.
This is my first contribution to "Starforce Productions". I liked the design so I decided to make the ship from scratch. :D Bones is going to take over for the TMP textures so I'll supply him with whatever he needs.
I'll consider those other parts, I may model them as seperate parts and just slap them onto the hull and see if they damage normally in BC. Too many parts tend to bring out that damage bug. Should be alright though. Maybe I just need more convincing, he he.
-
you may still want to get rid of the shadowing though, even though we don't have it in BC, artificialy doing it would probably look tackier than none at all, and there's always spec mapping.
-
All in all, take it from me, you may actually benefit from rebuilding your ship, as I did with the Mithra. You'll probably come out with a MUCH better product, with better attention to details, and fewer issues like the shadows on the textures. It's up to you in the end... I would love to see you remodel this with more attention to the details. Just watch the poly count. I don't know what the limit is these days, but my personal bar is about 10k. (The Mithra is sitting at 5.9k at the moment, as a point of reference for you.)
Just thought I'd pass on some advice given to be by an experienced modder... I look forward to seeing what you come up with in the future.
-Aeries.
-
yeah, I know it is supposed to be small, but those batteries are way too big, almost comically so
-
This is a really nice looking model, the shape really flows. Although I have to concur on the shadows, it never really ends up looking right. Also I think that the nacelles would look alot better if you modelled in the grooves on the grill area. Depending of course on its current polycount and the work you wan't to put in.
Those are the only suggestions I can think of, the rest of it looks great. +1
-
It's all being reworked. Warp Grills, Thrusters, Phaser Banks...the works. Sitting at less then 5k polies now. :D
P.S.
Still have to add 6 more Escape pods and fix the smoothing on them. Then it's mapping all over again :D And adjust the textures accordingly.

Marvelous job, Cordanilus. Well done! 8)

BUMP!
Lol, only because I have an update to this baby. :D
I've added a couple of pictures in which 3 of them are ingame pics and the last one is a max render. The texture is about 99% done (I hope, lol). The ship doesn't have a proper HP yet but that'll fall under Starforce and I'm sure it'll look much better with blinkers. :D
Enjoy!

i like it. seems like it would make a good voyager era planetary defense ship, or blockade runner. my only complaint is that the bottom of the saucer section looks a little bare. i know that is a difficult area because of the small size of the ship, but perhaps an extra hundred polys or two with something creative

seconded!
but those thrusters....
arent they...rather EXTREME???
-
I do have to agree, there are some scaling and proportioning issues... but I still kinda like it. :) Very nifty little thing.
-
I hope Cord I'm still in for retexturing TMP type of this baby :D as I said before, great work on this ship I luv those oberth style nacelles !
-
Well, I've made the ship according to the original concept which has very little detail on the bottom of the ship. Also, the ship is around 4 or 5 decks tall and the only thing I can see which is slightly out of proportion is the phaser banks.

Design me something, perhaps I can fit it in. :D
Yes sir Bones, you're definitely still in for the TMP texturing. I still have to make the TMP Style Phaser banks and map them.
Below is a picture of the original concept of the underbelly. As you can see, not much detail.
-
guess the same problem as with the prommie here...
-
:in Jonah J. Jameson's voice: crap... but I'll take it :arms: j/k
I'm looking forward to retexture this ship :D

Maybe this ship is built for exploring gas giants.. judging by the oberth nacelles i'd say it really makes it look like exporer type ship.. maybe a modern replacement for oberth from the ambassador / enterprise C era?
Speaking of bottom, perhaps you could cut it flat and blend it into under-saucer-dome nicely, and put a vertically-mounted downwards pointing deflector dish, perhaps add texturing to indicate that the ship can LAND (like the voyager)
-
then it wouldn't be the original ship. However, I would suggest an aero shuttle type thing placed on that flat part.
-
If you centred the shodowing and decreased its opacity it would look sweeter, its a nice little ship and your doing a good job
-
Loving the ship design. On the saucer section. I would go for a Sensor pod from the excelsior of the TMP Connie.
