Right guys soon I will post renders of the mantis refit hopefully tonight and this time I am adding more detail to areas like the windows and places like that. My main question is what do you want the reg to be? NCC or NX?

She's an experimental, first of her class...make her NX ;)

It all depends:
if this ship is a refit of the Prototype Mantis then it would get the NCC registy like the Excelsior after it had its transwarp drive removed.

If it is to change a few things like what happened on the nx-2000 en the ncc-2000 , I suggest using the ncc registry

well i will post some renders tonight and you will see if its worth changing to NCC but so far the poly count is nearly at 7000 as I am not holding back on the detail this time.

k cool, if you just give 1024 to low end comp. and you also supply the packadge of your ship with 2048 then high end users could use 2048 in their installations :P

Plus now I am able to see even more images...seems IE7 did not like images...could be due to my corrupt motherboard which is half cooked.
Least upgrades due on Thursday!

The hardpoint will be different as this is having extra phaser strips, but was going to have the hardpoint started from scratch

A 'lil suggestion, something that is missing on ver. 1: Animated bussards, and an SNS Galaxy type registry map.

Registry areas mapped to a single map, so making extra name variants is easier :P

great work, but the torpedo tubes dont seem scaled properly. if you consider the size of a torpedo, which is is just large enough to an adult human to fit in with room to breath, and the size of the windows and escape pods on the ship, then those torpedoes are like 3 or 4 decks high and longer then a room lol

well i did more today by adding more escape pods and windows and also started on the inside section of the saucer

That happened because I used one of the filters on photoshop so that the hull shows through and was pleased with its look. I will certainly call you if I need to port it ;)

Blue? hehe.
As for the shape, you should have a blue outline glow and a big inner part like on voyager.

Something unique to match the ship, perhaps like the Yamato B a nice off white color but with thin red stripes through it or blue stripes to give a more advanced feel and a sense of power.

Progress has stopped recently as it was my brothers wedding on Saturday and was best man so I was getting ready the week before. When we had the wedding and got back home I was in bed with food poisoning and only just started to get some strength back.

Managed to get some work done tonight, I was mapping some areas and found some uneeded polys and after redoing the bridge section I have managed to get the tris down to 15k as it was 18k before. Done some work on the deflector and the rear hull.

No, no, the model is nicely built, too. My only real nit-pick is that I seldom like the ships with the deflector in the saucer... particularly, when the saucer looks to have a big chunk cut out of it. I saw it with a miranda-ish ship somewhere and it drove me NUTS. So yeah, that's the only real reason I'm not too fond. However, design aside, the model itself and the textures... the overall QUALITY is fantastic. :D

for me its always rather hard to say wether a model is extremely outstanding or rather average...of course I see smoothing errors as well but I think for me the texture are the ship.
And referring to textures youre doing an extremely good job!
I'd say you belong to the best texturers atm imo. You have an eye for detail that almost is like DJ's keep it up
and btw: the design is provoking but refreshing (mentioned these words at the mithra as well I think^^)

Well, it's impossible to please EVERYONE. The only thing to be concerned about is if YOU are happy with it.
Like I said, though... design be d*mned! She's gorgeous nevertheless, with the textures and your modeling skills. :)

I have managed to do some work on the bottom and redid some of the shadow maps and made the registries into one texture for people wanting to make their own reg.

Here is some early renders of the mantis in the NanoFX GE engine. As I said its early and need to tweak the spec and normal maps but you get the idea.
