So, without dribbeling on about my losses, the past 3 days I did start something new, (also finished the mapping of the underside of the ARROW)
It was brought on by looking at DJ's Juno, and thinking I have never seen a small tough looking tos feddy... not one that some one has just cut a shape out of the saucer and just added a necelle anyway... and it got me thinking of a JJ / ENT themed TOS timeline ship....
If the Doomsday machine was to the TOS federation of planets that the BORG is to the TNG Federation of planets, would they have made a pure warship or atleast thought of one? so i started sketching, and this is the result.. its a long way off yet and will post more tonight. Massively non cannon I know, scaling i will need help with before i model in the windows, should be sub 18k when finished... sits at 8k triangles currently.
Style and textures will be a detailed blend of TOS / ENT / JJ theme as its the current trend for this era in my opinion.. 8)
Creation method:-
1. spline for the frontall hull... lathed to 180
2. spline cage for the remainder of the hull drawing back from the 180 degree split
3. cage modifier / surface modifier / cap holes / ffd modifier to adjust shape
4. cut sides out of hull, then re welded, and reshaped
5. necelles and struts created with box modifier (simple shapes) - cuts booleans etc
6. all verts welded, all faces created 3 sided = clean mesh (one object)
7. more to do 8) lots of detail coming. (done properly)
To do:-
1. bussards need detailing followed by a triangulation reduction in poly count.
2. underside needs starting, detailed deflector / kelvin / jj connie / ent era style embedded like / tmp excel
3. weapons, pulse cannons and torps, plus standard bubble phasers need adding.
4. mesh detail... lots to be added.
5. map and texture :o
-
Nifty looking, good luck with this. :)
-
CUTE! that's really cool, I love the concept!!

Thanks fellas,
here are the rest of the angles for now. 8)

Thanks mate..
Just finished adding in the first set of weapons, tough looking and big i know, but just feels right too me for this tough little birdy 8)
-
I like it. Sort of looks like a JJ version of the Nova class ships.
Make sure you back this mesh up. I was looking forward to the Pastur. Then I heard what happened. Don't let the same thing happen to this ship.

Thanks Billz, yeah and dont worry... max is saving to the g: drive now mate, even the rollback feature, and when i reinstall xp tomorrow, i'll set it up the same, the Pasteur will definately need to be done better some time soon.. i will get her done.
-
She's beautiful. I'd love to see your take on an X-era ship.
-
very cool. most original ship design in a while.
-
HAHA wow this reminds me of an old ship of mine. Looks awesome
-
Very original. Wonderful design!

most original ship design in a while.
Quit being modest :P.
-
Nice little ship, I can't wait to see how it handles against the 1701 =D
-
I love it, a very original design :D
-
I recommend giving it some of the Gold Tips on the Buzzard Collectors just to make it seem more TOS
-
Cool Ship, it is a little bit similiar to an Nova Class, is it, good Ship, cool Design...;)

someone post now so i dont get a DOUBLE post Cool BY YOUR COMMAND
-
So been playing with the underside allot tonight, but think im about 80% happy with it at the minute, i will play some more until it matches my drawing, trying to incorporate the tos hull, into the design, and keep certain features evident but not overly familiar, then put a spin on it 8)
Its fun but its a pain in the ass too :)
So:- I have tried to flesh the underside out, as its a commonly undetailed part of ships, wanted to give the ATRAIU some depth and a look of toughness, think it has that, more meshing to be done yet, but its progressing well.
-
Looking good brawd. I like this one allot it gets better every time i see it
-
I like that the deflector is brought further into the housing, seems to be a step between the TOS Connie deflector and the TMP deflector, awesome.
-
I like everything about this ship :D
-
This is going to be a top download. I can tell. Looking awesome.
-
Love the design. Looks very JJPrise-ish.
-
I dare say it's adorable. Cute the Klingons to death!

I agree with the posts above....( well...aeries... )
It certainly has a unique design and certainly fits into the era quite nicely.
-
It's not bad, can't say I see the link between JJ/ENT/TOS but it's a curious design.
-
The model is great, but it reminds me more of those Orion ships from SFC2.

I suppose it's those kewl-for-the-sake-of-being-kewl things in the nacelles and belly :P
-
It looks more like a TOS/Phase II version of the Nova class.

indeed, at any case excellent work mate!

Thanks mate,
@Wiley, the nova class did have a look over while i was sketching this out.

BINGO.. its not entirely a TOS ship, but its has features of a TOS ship, and ENT era ship and will be textured detailed like a mix of ent and JJ
I dare say it's adorable. Cute the Klingons to death!

@Aries i will release a fluffy doggy texture just for you.. pink collar the lot

Thanks mate, i did this to make it look more protected.

Cheers Brawdface
-
Finished off the smoothing groups, finished up most of the mesh... little more, then texture time. 8)
-
finished the mesh, but was kinda hanging back with the mapping and in turn made a reflective render to share...
texturing coming next. :arms:
-
its got a great flash gordon kind of feel
-
I love how the old TMP phaser banks look like pieces of lego glued to the hull! xD I'm diggin' the reflective render dude, very hawt. :P
-
"tough little ship."
-
perhaps she is the TOS equivalent of the Defiant Class
-
I think that's the point. Defiant was designed as Borg Killer, this is designed as Planet Killer....killer.
Looks awesome, loving the blend of many different elements. ^_^
-
Awwww, its so cute. For some reason I'm looking forward to the hardpoint.
-
Sorry for the lack of updates, I have been modelling a woman for the past few days, nearly had her finished too but collapsed the stack and saved afterword and made it unworkable afterward :(
Anyway im up the the waist again, might show a pic in the art forum later 2nite.
As for hardpointing of the atraiu.
It has two forward firing rapid lauching phots, 1 forward firing long range artillary type phot, four forward firing pulse type phaser cannons, 1 rear firing rapid launch phot. and phaser arrays mounted to cover pretty much 360 degrees around her. but her main teeth are frontal assaults.

All of that, I'd like to see :P. Once it's released of course :D.
-
Small texture update,
doing these on the fly at the minute.. not sure where they are going and they change all the time..
-
Oh jeebus, that is good. How much of the JJverse are you going to put into this?
-
Looking nifty, cant wait to pilot it.
-
Amazing. You must teach me these skillz. But until then, cookie.
-
Ooo, neato.
-
Cookie. Looks very JJVerse-ish.
-
Its looking awesome.
But wait, so none of this ships crew are allowed to have windows then? :P
-
It reminds me of Legacy's Strider class. Which followed the same line of reasoning for it's production, as well! Great work.
-
gotta love the strider :D mark hows the ship coming bro, can't wait to fly it

I have no idea what the strider is :)..

their coming... scale being an issue 8)
Thanks for all your comments.. I now have a question of scale... and decks.. as in how many ;)
-
Hmmm, considering she's a TOS Defiant-type ship, I'd say that works for the scale. I wouldn't put in too many windows though, emphasize her war-ship aspect.
-
Yeah, i was thinking of adding in a few windows here and there, then the round style port holes like you see on the nx ent.
thanks
-
Whatever you are doing keep it up, it looks great.
-
Time for sleepy soon... been up with Dawgy most of it playing :?
zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz :)
-
Looking great, is it going to have the JJPrise effect and only have nacelles online when in warp?
-
A little more, hoping to get the majority of the textures tied up this weekend, so I can learn the conversion process.
-
Those windows are TINY, I hope those aren't the windows actually lol cause the size of the bridge module is huge...
-
The idea is tiny port holes, like on the NX
But looking at it, they do need to be bigger.
-
I'm going to assume that this is smaller than a TOS Connie. So I imagine that the portholes would be less but bigger.
-
Well, that depends; Enterprise's portholes were real small to begin with. The size of the bridge itself, then, isn't an issue. Take a peak at the attatched turboshaft module at the back of the bridge, and compare that to the portholes... looks fine to me. Though the big bulbous thing the bridge is mounted on could be a llittle overkill. idk for sure, though.
-
For the sake of the era that you are following with this ship, port holes are good. Like you said though, they could be a little bigger and not have so many of them. You also want to be sure that you don't put them were they wouldn't make sense though.
Also, hope this gets a really awesome bussard texture. Are you going with animated bussard textures or a still texture?
-
I agree too many windows and ya cant have them on the dorsal saucer just redo the windows but this time only apply them to surface areas that run sorta vertical not horisontal like on the dorsal saucer surface
-
wow, i love it , but have no opinion on the windows though :( shame but its awsome none the less marky
-
Thanks fellas, I will take all this into consideration :)
Also, hope this gets a really awesome bussard texture. Are you going with animated bussard textures or a still texture?
I am leaving the bussards until last, as Im unsure how i want them, they definately WONT be NX-01 styled as that would be lazy, i want a tos come jj enterprise mechanical feel, so im open to suggestions, and I want them to be animated.
You guys were all correct on the window size, it seems to look much better now..
Im happy with the windows on the Dorsal saucer, who says you cant have celing port holes lol.
But seriously thanks for all the pointers, it helps. going to look at the bussards next. deflector will be kelvin styled i think.
-
Im having problems uploading images to BCC at the minute, not sure if its just me.. so i have linked these in from imageshack for the timebeing.
**links removed**
Finished with the scaling of the portholes now, I think its ok.
-
Is there an incline on the front edge of the saucer? Cos it'll be pointless to have portholes on the roof.
-
Is there an incline on the front edge of the saucer? Cos it'll be pointless to have portholes on the roof.
Why is it pointless??
I just has this discussion with Dawg on MSN and I still stand by the fact that I dont think its pointless to have windows roof based, And the portholes are NX based, and the NX had portholes on the roof. Either way I wont be changing that any time soon, as I have moved on. :) But will still keep it in mind :D
-
I'm just thinking its pointless or not a good idea because:
a) A stray shot may blow them out and be a liability for hull breaches
b) I believe in the 23rd Century they had lights
c) It would strain peoples necks when looking up :P
I know you're not changing it but thats why I wouldn't put them there lol. :D
-
Man do I love this ship. Best design so for of 09, hands down. Cookie!
-
This little thing is just plain neat, and surprisingly seems to be able to fit in any era. Heck, I wouldn't be surprised if this type ship was still in service in the 24th century. :)
-
Thanks allot fellas, I will have a new wip shortly, showing bussards and some other details :)
-
Sweet ship, the thing I want to see is a couple variants of this. One being an NX-01 texture styled version with some NX Features, then the silver version you have now and a white connie styled version :P
-
Bussards and deflector done, bussards shall be animated, once i get some one to give me some pointers :) 8)
-
Lol, big contrast from the bottom and top. One is finished looking, the other... not so much. :P
I like that deflector though. Looks... liquified. 8)
-
Lol, yeah, its a while off yet to be honest.. at the minute im thinking about changing the aztecs, and redooing some textures, most of the gray areas, are place holders 8)
-
Just a TAS render for DAWG for all his input,
thanks buddy :D
(the doomsday is mine too and will be released to boot... :D GO ME 8)
---low res render version---
catch me on msn for the high 8)

-
Are we supposed to see something?
-
You where... but im having issues with internet uploads at the minute :(
-
*immaculate chorus*
Beautiful....
I'd love to see a bigger version of that, width of 1280, so I can use it as my desktop. 8)
-
here ya go mate,
1280 without, the writing.
-
YES! Awesome! 8)
-
Little wip, got the ring aroung the bussards done, finished the entire bridge section, added in phaser mounts and detailed the pulse phasers... did a few other touches too...
-
god that thing is so sweet!
-
Looking fantastic as always. Looking forward to seeing her in-game, as well as your future work. Keep it up.
-
WANT!!!
-
Another update, top mostly done, underside underway.. 8)
-
This is one awesome little ship.
-
Must. Get. Better. Computer.
Awesome work!!
-
Thanks fellas
Must. Get. Better. Computer.
Awesome work!!
you may not need a better computer to play with her, she is sub 10k and I have managed to get the textures onto one 2048 x 2048 sheet 8)

This is one vessel that I am following with great interest. Shes coming along nicely and I can;t wait to reload my TOS era vessels again. As the title suggests that the Atraiu is the Doomsday Destroyer. I was wondering if you also created or recreated the Doomsday Machine :?:. Your signature looks as though you did... just curious....
Also like the name looked it up: Atraiu comes from the Indian word which means, "Great Warrior.".
Perfect for this ship....

I did mate, if you look up a few posts you will see a render of it with the atraiu as seen in my sig but the full version 8)
Here are some pic's of it, I actually built it about 6 years ago

I have 2 versions of the Doomsday machine but the texturing on the one in your signature caught my eye. You never released it :?: Well you can't have a Doomsday Destroyer without a Doomsday Machine  that would be illogical to say the least....
I can't believe I downloaded all the PICs of the Atraiu and missed the full version must have thought it was the signature..
-
Lol, well once i work out the conversion thingy, I will release the doomsday machine too :)
-

My current one struggles to run more than one CG Sov at a time. Not to mention it got an ugly virus and may have a hardware fault, since it's no longer loading windows. xD
-
The Atraiu is done 8)
I am going through the process of making an sfcIII and II version, and SF2 will be releasing the BC version, however, I just noticed while converting my model to .mod format it drops all my smoothing groups are makes it look . . . well SH*T ,
Im beginning to think I may be missing summat in the material / smoothing process of my model??
I never assign mat id's, and when assigning smoothing groups, i just select the faces, then deselect/ select a number opposite to the opposing face.. in max its great.. but am i doing summat wrong?? :?

Contact limey. He can 'heal' it for you. 8). He's very good when it comes to high poly models.
-
Thanks mate, im sure this is a mat ID issue... you kinda need them and i never ever used em :(
gotta be that. :(
-
Did I tell you I love this ship? Cause I do.
-
I had not realised it was bigger than a Connie. WOOT!
-
Much bigger than I thought.
-
Much bigger than I thought.
Yea, that's what she said! Nice work. I will enjoy having this ship beside my JJ Enterprise in the coming battles.
-
Much bigger than I thought.
Yea, that's what she said!
Indeed, she did. Carrying on...
I look forward to seeing what you come up with next, Markyd. All your work has been fantastic so far. Keep it up! :]
-
Thanks allot fellas, resloved the sfcIII mesh issue.... but TBH... not sure how you BC's guys handle MAT ID's and need to look into weather or not that is an issue...
anyway, links coming soon 8)
-
Heyyyy...that is one nice ship! :D
-
 nice!
-
a pretty, nifty ship :D can't wait to fly around with her!
-
Nice battleship, this is a TOS Version right? To make sure, so in that case I wanna fight it with a TMP Ship or a TNG ship, smaller vessel or weaker like the Excelsior and see how long I last lol.
-
Lol, defiantely TOS
I have finished the SFCIII version and its avail for download, and thanks to Adonis i am getting my head around this scripting thing, I used SF2 vid tut which showed me how to get it into .nif format.. so its just the scripting now, which is very slow for me becasue its my first time doing them. Hope to have this released for tomorrow.
Thanks fellas
-
Sweet, I am going to download this ship for sure.
-
I may ahve solved the problem, you had an incorrect file in the wrong place. easy fix, unless something else is wrong in which case I'll throw the hp in the mpe and see what's missing. I didn't see anything that stuck out as obviously wrong.
-
So you got it working in game?
-
I didn't try it.
-
I apologize for the necro-post. I saw you on the forums markyd and I thought I'd ask if this ship is still on the table?
-
Lol
I still have it, but I cannot get it to work in game, crashes out every time, Adonis has tried to teach me scripting etc, followed loads of tuts, others tried to fix parts of the scripts but still no luck. Tried to get it working for weeks and then kinda decided that I suck at BC scripting :)
That in a nutshell is where this one sits im afraid mate, thanks for your interest.
-
If you need any help, feel free to give me a buzz. :)
-
I could try to get it ingame. I'll have to have the original mesh with textures to convert it. If the ship works in MPE, it's just a simple scripting error.
-
Thanks for the offer,
the ship works fine in MPE, I'll gather the files, zip them up and email if that's ok.
-
That's fine.
-
Ok, thanks mate,
And thanks for the offer Dalek mate, very much appreciated.. double cookie on the way :)
-
we got some surpurb modders with u and wiley and dj marky
-
It's now ingame. I'm fixing up the hardpoint, because it is a bit screwed up.
-
Wow. I am so glad she's ingame! She so pretty...:D
-
Awesome. i love it. glad you're helping out Wiley.
-
Exceptional work gentlemen.
Cookies for Wiley & Marky.
-
Thanks allot Wiley mate, very much appreciated.. cookie 8)
-
TOS is sexy like it's never been sexy before! :D
-
That is a very nice looking ship! And soon there'll be a high quality Planet Killer for it to fight. ;)
-
So, Wiley, I know ur a busy lad, so now you have fixed the script issue (with help from the community ... TY ) whats the score ? is it good to go, or does it need more work, if thats the case let me know what i need to fix so I can get this baggage off the old sholders and released so peeps can play with her :D
-
So just to let you know where this is at,
Wiley fixed my broken HP and sent it back to me, so it would work ingame.
I really have no interest in scripting and HP's etc ( I just like making purdy ships ) so Dalek is excellently ripping the HP to pieces and has her almost finished up.. he has gone into so much detail on it im very happy I asked him to do it..
Currently we have an issue with the smoothing groups, they are applied in max and it looks great, as soon as the model is exported to ""ANY"" format.. in 2 areas of the ship the smoothing groups are lost?? they are fine in all other areas just these two.. when you re import it will not let you fix these smoothing groups.
Before Dalek shows his excellent HP including new phasers and torps and such we would like to see this resolved, I have fiddeled with various versions of max and differnt methods of exporting to no resolution.. again the mesh is smooth and fine in max, but loses 2 x smoothing groups on exporting to any format including .nif etc
I believe Dalek is asking other modelers if they can help, but I just thought I should update you on this.
-
Okie dokie then:
First thing thats come up is the torpedoes. So far I've had mixed opinions from friends so I thought I'd ask you guys about it.
Do you like the torpedo (attached images)?
I've attempted to make it look TOS with some creative flare to make it look more powerful than your average TOS torpedo.
-
Awesome!!
-
Seconded.
-
Very nice. May I use this torpedo for my JJ Enterprise?
-
Wow, it appears I am in the minority.
-
I like that as well.
-
Like I said mate, it looks awsome 8)
-
I love it. really
-
That ship looks really good. and i like those torpedoes. I want to get my ship in game like this.
-
absoloutely brilliant! I love how modern it looks but still has quite a TOS flair, as if it's fit in with the JJ verse and primeverse also. One thing though (and sorry if you've already answered this) Does it have animated bussards? I think that would be the icing on the cake :D
-

nice bump kid. But next time look at the date of the last post ;)
-
whoops! sorry my mistake.
-
It can be answered though...
I believe Marky hoped for animated bussards, but he's gone active and won't be back for quite awhile.
-
Long time, no post lol.
The Atraiu is now open to beta testing. I'll be a bit more fun this time so the first 3 people to post in this thread about testing will become a tester. Post away people! :)
-
*raises his hand once more* young, willing and able daredevil ready to see what she's made of, Sir. :D
*mental note* gotta remember to remove that nemesis ent E beta.. that monster makes my game stutter severely.. for now. :evil
-
!!
Where's my link
lol
:D
-
hook me up. I'll give a full report tonight.
-
damn, missed the boat!
-
It's now ingame. I'm fixing up the hardpoint, because it is a bit screwed up.
now this is the first time i seen this... very nice looking ship, very nice indeed.
looks deadly :evil
-
She's a sexy little beast, isn't she.. :D
-
Ok, I have my 3 beta testers. Those 3 will get PM's soon. :)
-
Cool.
Thanks Dalek mate.. it will be nice to see this thing out there after all this time.
see you all mid 2010 ;) *salut*
-
I tested the ship out marky, and it was a real treat. nice work, and stay safe man.
-
I had planned on using this ship in my tos mod. One of those mods I can never seem to get modivated to work on. :funny
-
Cool.
Thanks Dalek mate.. it will be nice to see this thing out there after all this time.
see you all mid 2010 ;) *salut*
Good to hear from ya Marky hope u are able to keep in touch see u in the summer. (SALUTE) Semper Fi
