Yes, I made my own texture. Yes, I made it with crappy programs. Yes, it's probably not straight. My copy of Paint Shop is probably 10-15 years old. *laughs*
I've been involved (off-and-on) with the Excelsior-C in Bravo Fleet for the last decade. Okay, that's really off-and-on, because I commanded it for about six months in 2000-2001, served as her chief diplomat for about five months in 2007, and am presently serving as her fighter commander. Still, I'm...connected, so I'd like to be able to play her in-game, converting the textures on the KM1.0 Sovereign to read out "U.S.S. Excelsior NCC-2000-C". I have the texture all set up and everything, I just need to figure out how to apply it.
Now, my problem: I do not have either 3ds Max, Photoshop, or any other program that's associated with the modding community - me, I'm just a guy who does retextures (like this, for instance!) with what I got, which is PSP5 - they didn't add vectors and all that until PSP6, so I had to do all the text curving by hand, and it doesn't look quite right. Best I can do, though... *chuckles* Would anyone be able to help?
Thank you,

So, summarized, you have a registry texture you want swapped out?
-
That's it in a nutshell. I tried overwriting the original file, but I still kept getting the registry of the Sovereign. And I don't have a copy of Photoshop or anything like that, just this antique copy of PSP5.
-
you're probably overrighting the wrong one, there are several registry texture files included with that ship. also you could try using the Skinning and Damaging tool to assign the new textures to the ship.
-
Aces is right. Try downloading CR's Sovereign pack. It is a good example of how to use the SDT and apply registries.
-
and it includes an Excelsior-B, so your half way there already

Thank you for pointing it out to me. Thankfully, PSP5 isn't completely useless - I was able to do a little tinkering (replacing the B using the blank Sovereign textures and the first "C" from "NCC"), so I was able to get a nice beauty shot of the modified texture (once I figured out where it was). I'll post it in the screenshot thread
Thank you Aces and Kirk, for pointing this out to me, and to CR for making a Sovereign-class Excelsior that only needed a little tinkering to get right. *grin* I'll have to post this screenshot for my captain, too...
