Im not sure where to post this question, although i think this is the best forum for it...
I am trying to figure out the dimention of the ships in bridge commander in order write the length, width, and height in the ships description and i have been using Jeff Russells Starship Dimensions to help figure it out, and then i thought i might ask this around the forums. Heres the website, for those who have not seen it, its pretty cool,
http://www.merzo.net/
Does any1 know approxamently what length 0.1 would represent in MPE, for example, the Soveriegn Class is all most 700 meters in length and in MPE it is about 4.0 units long in the Hull property, give or take and i was wondering if there is any kind of length reprsentation for MPE or has any1 else tried to do this with their descriptions before. The few equasions i came up with dont quite match Jeff Russels web site but perhaps not all modelers get the size of the model right.
Any Thoughts?

Well, it is a 1:1 ratio in Max.
-
scaling in BC is pretty rough in general. I scaled my Galaxy class to the CG Sov, and all my other ships I then scale to my Galaxy because I have the original mesh.

Well, actually, because the planets in BC are so small, to make things properly sized, they should really be much smaller than 1:1. As DJ said though, your best bet is probably to use known ship lengths and extrapolate from there.

another size resource I use is Ex Astris Scientia, which is actually, often more accurate then Starship dimensions. Bernt Schnider looks at features with a known size, such as deck heights and windows, as well as other ships and objects, to determine scale. I know some people object to his 302 meter STXI Enterprise, but that figure was arrived at by examining things like the window rows, and even certain structures on the recycled TMP style saucer that don't fit a 725 m ship.

Thanks for the cool site, ACES, i figured out a formula that gets me pretty close, although with some models like DJs Galaxy class are signicantly larger then The reg Galaxy and GalaxyX dreadnaugt, i just call em a Dominion War refit. I also noticed some of the shuttles are rediculsly large, but salavie. :?

i use the TG models to get my scaling right, i.e. after im done with the model ill import the sovy model or the galaxy and scale to that.
thats the best way i know... but then again i tend to "eye" everything and call it a day
-
keep in mind that the TG models are all way off scale to begin with.
-
up or down?
-
they're all over the place.
-
well if the scaling on the new yamato aint right everyone knows why now

I found when figuring a scale for nearly all Defiant Class models out there, in MPE a 1.00 scale, i call it 100 and multiply it by 1.9 and when i measured the Defiants i got a length of 143 meters, close enough, so iv been measuring my models using this method, and surprisingly most of the models have been coming in close to their canon lengths with a few here and there either long or short, IMO thats pretty good for a largly Fan made game, so Kudos to all you hardworkin Model makers out there 8)

man, my ships are gonna look Pee-Wee next to these at this scale, then. my scout is only 100 m long, and 30 across the barrel. my biggest general ship is only 300 meters. it's the Cetacian class that are gonna be the colossi (3 kilometers long, a kilometer across and somewhere around 500-750 M thick)
-
I didnt actually change the scale on any of my ships, i ment using MPE as a measuring device in order to make a size desription for the ships plugin like,
Nova Class
Length: 145m.
Beam: 42m.
Height: 21m.
I have used Nifskope to rescale a handfull of ships that i felt were too small or too large but the majority of the ships in my BC install are not messed with other then rehardpointed, im sure your ships will look fine King :D
-
hee hee... i cheat now.... import the nif of a ship i like it scaled close to and go from there :D
-
I hear you, i dont know what i ever did without nifskope for scaling my models 8)
