Hi every one, I was wondering if launching probes has any benefit?
Other than tactical use as decoys during combat probes doesn't seem to do anything.

Not to my knowledge. I have used them to determine whether a nebula was deadly or not.

Never in quickbattle. Only in the singleplayer mode.

ah i see thanks billz, do you know if it would be possible to get it doing something... i dont know like send it into a nebula and get readings or maybe even send it to other systems out side of sensor range.
thanks for the reply by the way :)

It can't really do much unless you have KM1 installed (or KM0.9. I forget if its in KM1 or KM0.9). If used in one of these mods at least, it can just extend the range of your sensors, giving you better readings.
Its too bad it hasn't been modified to enable you to make 'fake ships' appear on enemy ships sensors, causing a distraction so that you can escape.

cheers i didnt realise about km1.0... i use that all the time along with boost shields, galaxy chart2
will try that out when i play next lol cheers

I use them if I've dropped power on my sensors or if I've warped to a large distance to repair while in silent running. The probe will send back it's scans of the area without giving away my position so I know where the enemy is.

In KM1 I've found it can discover cloaked ships if given enough time, very useful if your fighting a bunch of romulans or kligons and they cloak for a while trying to repair

thanks guys coool :D
